Warfield Hotel

Although the staff (front desk) was great, the area is terrible. Do not stay here with kids or girls, it’s not safe. There are homeless people and active drug users that linger outside the hotel. Parking is a nightmare and it’s not even safe to park on the street parking. I had to pay $40 to park overnight at a place around the corner. I booked same day and didn’t discover it’s a shared bathroom and shower for the floor between 5 rooms. I tried to cancel with no success, the manager declined my request even after voicing safety concerns. I actually was not able to even speak with him, as they refused to let me speak to him, saying he was not available. I travel with my daughters and nieces and it was the absolute worst case scenario you could imagine as far as safety. I’m still pretty upset that the manager didn’t allow the cancellation request minutes after booking. It lets a really bad impression of customer service. Therefore I would not recommend, especially for safety concerns.

Sheets on bed were dirty and bloody, cockroaches craling on floor, someone got stuck in the elevator when I arrived so I was scared to use it.

The hotel was built in 1907 and is showing its age. However, it was clean and comfortable and close enough to walk to the trolley station. The staff were friendly and helpful. We shared bathroom and shower facilities which were kept very clean. The old elevator was pretty cool! Just like in the movies!

We could not stay here. Homeless people at the front door. Security biz-in lock. Filthy people by the dozens walking the streets. Parking around the corner weaving through the homeless is $40 a night. All in all, the worst hotel on Hotels.com listings. We could not stay here so we went across the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods for a safe place to stay with delicious food offerings nearby.

The Lift of the Hotel is Nightmare. very old DOn't know if the inspection happened in years or not, It's a Hunted Hotel. 1. Water in room sync was pathetic. Even after complaining no one came to fix the water pressure. They said Its an old Hotel and water doesn't run equally in room sync or in the Bathroom. 2. Manager/Reception was almost useless no one was there to help. for everything they were asking for money. 3. They were really bad in English speaking. I had a Hard time understanding them. 4. Breakfast was boring everyday same Bred and muffin. 5. The hotel was too noisy no soundproofing. 6. All night Traffic & honking, homeless playing songs. No One to attend to the complaints. 7. They even did not come to change the towels in 4 days even though I asked to clean the room no one did. 8. A lot of smoke every where. Any one could come inside the hotel and ask for Smoke and food and water. Over all, It's not the right hotel to stay alone or with anyone.

We booked this hotel, obviously trusting Expedia. It was only 2 miles from downtown so we thought with the “good rating,” it would be a decent hotel (not luxury). We pull up to the hotel looking for parking when we realize there is tons of homeless people outside the door/street. There were 3 cops in the intersection trying to control the crowd and homeless while people were walking into the street and making illegal exchanges. Note, you have to park around the block so you have to get your luggage down the street and around the corner to get to the hotel & leave your car in an unknown area. Also, did not feel safe because they were blocking the entrance and would have to fight through them. We called and explained but they said they didn’t have problems inside the hotel, it was the one a block down. I understand they can’t control the streets but having to walk a good distance to get to the hotel while they can’t protect us outside & while they admitted to the other one not being safe did not ease our tension. We never received a refund b/c they said it was safe. Despite this, we lost the money & booked another one outside the city b/c we felt that unsafe/uneasy. One of the excuses they used about not getting a refund back too was that we didn’t want to pay for parking. However, to pay for a different hotel & gas to go back and forth means it obv. wasn’t about the money. Be aware of this hotel, esp. women!!

The elevator is not that convenient and kind of scary. The area is also not safe. And it is not clean at all! 😢😢

I loved this hotel. It was such a nice surprise. When we pulled up, I was very hesitant. The area surrounding the hotel is not a good area. But the hotel itself interior wise the rooms, the hallways. The reception area were wonderful. I love the old elevator With the cage that was so cool. I don’t remember the staff members names, but the gentleman who worked the morning to afternoon and the gentleman who worked afternoon evening and then the lady who worked overnight were all spectacular! I would stay here again in fact, I’m planning on it because it’s so central to everywhere I needed to go. Again the neighborhood is sketchy. But The hotel is lovely. I love the elevator. I got A room with a private bathroom . Spent my first anniversary with my partner there hopefully we will spend many more there as well. Loved room 305!

The hotel was decent, staff was amicable. Room met expectations. My goal of travel was to explore SF cheaply. I did not stay in the hotel beyond sleeping, eating and bathing. The hotel is a brisk walk to the theater, and it made for a decent accommodation. The location isn’t ideal. It’s the Tenderloin. It’s loud, it’s filled with weed smoke, homeless, it’s not pretty. But, for an affordable rate with decent staff, this hotel makes up for what it loses in location. If you don’t make yourself a target, it’s fine. The hotel has security cameras and my room had a functioning deadbolt. The safety aspect isn’t the fault of the hotel. They make it work, and I didn’t feel unsafe during my stay. I wore headphones while I slept to quiet the noise. All good to me. The Warfield is blocks away from nearby BART, even closer to MUNI bus stations. If the Tenderloin isn’t your vibe, you’re certainly able to move around with ease. Lyft was easy here. Elevator is old fashioned with its gate. It probably would benefit from a renovation. I suspect a wheelchair user might have some difficulty. Room wasn’t perfectly clean, but it was good enough. No bedbugs or creatures. Coffee and “breakfast” could have been a bit longer, but it wasn’t important to me. It was basic. Overall, great hotel if you have low expectations. It’s not a Marriott or Hilton, but it’ll get the job done good enough. Will come back if SF holds another similar event. ≈$80/night; I got what I paid for. :)

Stains, smelled, loud, unsafe area, dirty living area, broken drawers, and cigarette hole thru the mattress.

Strange smell in this hotel. Could barely sleep from it.

We saw bed bugs the first night and switched rooms. In that second room, we saw a cockroach. Cigarette stains on blankets, stains on towels, hairs all over the blankets. We left before our second night. Unfortunately, can't get our money back.

It's extremely dirty! Cockroaches. Sticky tacky visibly unclean floors, greasy toilet levers, dirty dresser, dirty sheets towels, dirty shower, pee on toilet, etc It's run down. The carpets are soiled and smell like cigarettes. The shades are stained and sticky. The paint is layered thick on the trim. Etc. The neighborhood is terrible. Food, cardboard, and needles strewn about each morning by the drug addicts and mentally ill who live outside on the block. People selling drugs. Groups of ~15 blocking the sidewalks. Car situation blows. They list onsite parking but it's a block away run by some shady Russians who tell you that you can "in and out" is included when you park for $40 but do not honor that and charge you again. Street parking is allowed if you move by 6am but your car will be gone through and/or have it's windows smashed even under the main door cameras. It's a rip off. $80 per night becomes $95 after fees. $95 which becomes $110 if you include a bathroom (the room changes during checkout to not include a bathroom). $110 becomes $150 due to parking. I would have preferred to sleep in the car or anywhere else for that matter. The motel in Mountain View was nice enough and $80. For the positives; it is right downtown and if you go 4 - 8 blocks or so in any direction it gets a little bit better. There are a lot of boarded up places but there are also some really nice establishments. Staff was friendly. The people watching was great!

The staff was very polite and helpful. However, the hotel is very unclean and unkempt. When we initially checked in, the bed spreads looked like they hadn't been changed in a while. We contacted the front desk and they were quick to change our room. The second room was better than the first but we later noticed the sheets still had strange stains on them. Moreover, the hotel had a strange smell. The road outside the hotel isn't the best but the location generally is decent, super close to the union square.

When booking I didn't realize it was a shared bathroom, so I upgraded to a room with private bathroom. We took the elevator to the third floor which got stuck on the second floor and staff had to press a button in the hallway to get the elevator moving again. There was hair, dead flies, and a used bloody snotty tissue on the floor. The tv remote was greasy with a hair on it. The toilet paper roll had about nine squares of toilet paper on the roll. The freezer frost had redish brown stains and the blankets had brown streaks, that didn't even seem like they had been washed and worst of all blood on the front door. It was so bad we left and didn't even stay in the city. The hotel refunded our upgrade money and informed us that a refund would have to be dealt with through hotels.com. When dealing with them via text they sent us a text of a woman's reservation details for a different hotel, the room types, check in and out info, her name and email, then said "sorry wrong chat". Very unprofessional on part on hotels.com and not very safe to be accidentally providing other people's itinerary to the wrong people. They then refused to provide a refund and said it was because the hotel wouldn't approve, yet they seemed to have no problem refunding the uprgade onsight and said we had to deal with hotels.com. So use caution in dealing with hotels.com, because you don't know if someone else may be getting your info accidentally in a "wrong chat".

There were bed bugs in my room. The staff very kindly responded appropriately and moved me to a different room. I was quite surprised how much nicer the 2nd room looked. The first room was shabby and not very clean, and didn't look like the pic on the booking site. The 2nd room also had bed bugs. The night desk clerk told me no one complained to him of bed bugs. I got video of one crawling across the bed. They kindly gave me a refund for my 2 unused nights. But it was a traumatic experience all around, with the parasites and having to hear people using the adjoining room for extracurricular activities that involved a lot of screaming and banging.

It was a disgusting room, blood stains on the sheets, yellow pillows, no soap. The neighboring room had people coming and going ALL NIGHT LONG AND SLAMMED THE DOOR WVERY 5 mins! I did not sleep at all. The noise from the street is overwhelming, and there were roaches!

Here are the positives: the bed was firm but the sheets and pillows were actually very clean and no bugs! The mounted flat screen tv was a decent size and was loud enough to drown out the police sirens, screeching tires and drug induced screams all night. You are also very close to Union Square and some great dining options. Forgot to buy some waters, snacks and maybe an adult beverage? Don’t worry tons of liquor stores on the same block…the front deskman even personally escorted me the half block down the street and acted as my body guard. The other cool thing is that you really get to experience what a 126 year old hotel feels like because nothing has been updated or cleaned since the turn of the 20th century. A piss stained elevator will jolt you up to your floor, pardon the metal gate, its all such a fun experience. But hey to be fair….$100 a night in San Francisco, not too bad these days!

Couldn’t sleep as there was no sound proof windows

The zone there was homeless, there was no parking as well we had to pay. We had to share a bathroom there was no private bathroom, They offer breakfast but there was no tables or chair it was in the lobby we paid for 2 nights but we only stayed for one cause we were uncomfortable we couldn’t sleep.

Clean, quiet, nice room, excellent bed. Just what i needed for a wonderful weekend.

Bed cover had small stains, NO bathroom in the room which I had never seen in my life! They should advertise as hostal or motel or something else definitely not a 3 star hotel, what is that!?

Bathrooms and showers aren’t in your room. The rooms are tiny.

It’s very simple but that’s all I needed. It gets pretty loud outside with a busy street, so it would be an issue for light sleepers.

Room was small and didn’t have a desk; chair and sofa seat were old and visibly dirty; hair was left behind on shower wall by prior occupants; walls were very thin; WiFi was poor; bed was clean and comfy; lighting and ceiling fan were modern and efficient; tv showed Olympic coverage (bonus)

The staff was really helpful and nice

It was comfortable, spacious, and clean. The staff were pleasant also, I definitely stay again!

Staff is great

This is an Iconic hotel to the Warfield theater. It's nostalgic and has an old pulley elevater. V at the front desk at night was so so kind as was Sam in the he morning. Definitely coming back

I always have a good time when I come here. Staff know me by name and I feel welcome. That's why I keep coming back.

We chose this since this is affordable and in the city, but we regretted it. Staff is rude. Place is not really beautiful. They also overbooked. Three groups were waiting for them to get checked in only to be told that they had no room available. Not really worth the price.

Warfield compare to other hotel/hostel in the area is more safe and less homeless. Other part of the tenderloin has a lot more homeless. I like that it convenient and short walk to Union Square where I mostly took the hop on hop off to places.

Excess to the city

I wish I could give this property a higher rating but the surroundings outside brought this rating down. But with that being said the staff are amazing made us feel safe and welcomed. The location was close to public transportation. I only wish that this hotel was one block over as once you got onto the next block the streets and sidewalks are much cleaner.

This is a lovely place in a rough corner of San Francisco. A 3min walk and you are to Market and Powell.

Overall a good place to stay for walking distance to Moscone Center

It’s in the middle of skid row. Impossible to sleep with the noise from the street. No refunds available. Will never return here.

I couldn’t find a parking so I had to park my car in the street near the hotel because it was a dark night. I got a ticket of $108 for a restricted parking next morning. When I told the receptionist that I got a ticket he wasn’t empathetic at all, he smiled with sarcasm and said “well you should read the sign”, I told that he doesn’t have to be “smart” about it cause there wasn’t any signs and even there were I couldn’t see any at 2 am. There was no drinking water in the hotel, the cooler was broken. Overall nice location, good breakfast. A lot of homeless people around but I understand that it’s not hotel’s fault, it’s a general problem of the city

I really like the cleanliness of the room. I felt safe despite the hotel being in a very bad neighborhood. What ruins the experience is the noise and chais going on around the hotel. I got woke up several times at night because of screaming drunks or drug addicts in the streets. The staff is friendly and vigilant, the morning coffee is excellent. But I would highly suggest they keep some cups or glasses for drinking water in the room.

Breakfast was not good

The staff of the hotel was very kind and helpful. I stayed in a nice room with King bed size and private bathroom. The hotel has breakfast, which is a good advantage. Despite being in the Tenderloin neighborhood, I felt completely safe in the hotel. Considering the area, there is some noise outside.
