The Sandman Santa Rosa Sonoma, an Ascend Collection Hotel

The Sandman had large, very nice pool area. We also appreciated the updates to the rooms and the cleanliness. The only real criticism we have about this property was that there was very little seating available for breakfast, and it was frequently crowded because of the number of rooms and guests at the hotel.

The hotel has a few nice additional things not typically found at a hotel, such as a domed exercise facility outside besides a fitness room. They also serve a complimentary hot breakfast that was stated in the information on the hotel.

We hung out at the pool and had drinks at the bar. Jerry the bartender was entertaining, professional, and so much fun. We love this hotel every time we come.

Facility is nicely well kept. The rooms were large and spacious. On site amenities were nice as well, from the fire pit to the yoga area. I would recommend others to spend the night there on any future adventures within that area.

I made the reservation with the pool as my highest priority and the pool was out of service

Great place to stay. Pool area and bar very good. Used the bbq area also very good. Room spacious clean and good amenities. All staff were fantastic. Plenty of places to eat in the area and lots are within walking distance.

This property has so much potential. The staff at the front desk were less than welcoming or helpful. The pool area was out of towels the entire time we were there. The door to the room had a huge gap that felt a little troublesome for cooking efficiency and safety. The breakfast was tasting but a bit disorganized and crowded. Ice machines were not clearly marked and some were out of order. You get what you pay for with this property but not bad overall for $100/ night.

has a very convenient location: near the highway and many retail shops and restaurants in walking distance. there is plenty of free parking. additional amenities such as the pool and hot tub were great. the gym has a (nearly) full rack of dumbbells and some cardio machines that i was happy to use after a day of driving. The free breakfast is alright in a pinch, but i didnt see any bacon or jam/jelly for the toast - it shouldn't be a deal breaker. it would have been an absolutely perfect stay if my room wasn't facing the afternoon sun, the A/C system just couldn't keep up. it's worth noting that the shower handle was broken, but it was still functional, and the carpet was wet near the fridge. i was very busy during my stay that i hadn't the opportunity to inform the front desk as it wasn't a huge inconvenience. my daughter also noticed a tweeker wandered onto the property and was acting strange near the fire pits but the staff escorted him away rather quickly. i feel like the staff is pretty attentive to their guests needs as long as you communicate to them. i still think i would consider staying there again.

This hotel was quite and easy enough to get into but I found a live cockroach in the shower and there was some gross substance on the chairs that was either jelly or blood. I can understand not knowing about the cockroaches but those chairs should not have been left in the room. There were also some stains on the sheets to one of the beds. They may have been clean and just stained but it’s a little off putting.

I have stayed at this very cute hotel on many occasions visiting my daughter and granddaughter. It is a lovely place, good amenities, good location and fun. Unfortunately, I don't believe I will be staying here again for two reasons. The last two times I have stayed there have been false fire alarms. They are absolutely annoying and create a situation where if there was a real fire at night someone might ignore the alarm thinking it is another false alarm. Again, dangerous and needs to be resolved, not ignored. I took a look the reviews and it has not been just my experience. The second is the deal breaker. Visually the room appeared to be clean, or presentably clean. I discovered it was not when I picked up my granddaughter off the floor and discovered she was absolutely filthy. I then looked at my bare feet and discovered they were black with dirt. Gross... The flooring is in desperate need of deep, deep, deep cleaning. I am sad to say I most likely will not stay at the Sandman again, too bad I very much liked the place. Hopefully, they read this and get their floors deep cleaned and resolve the fire alarm issues. Saddened traveler.

Room smelt like a wet dog had been staying there. Linens were clean. It served its purpose and the price was right.

The menu was not fresh, on Sunday at 830am they ran out of several food options for a very limited breakfast menu, there were several different bugs in the room and the carpet turned my daughters feet black when she walked around barefoot even after a shower. The lady who was managing breakfast on Saturday was on point, she was quick and made sure everything was stocked.

Room was visibly clean but we did encounter a pest problem.

Fire alarms going off in error in the middle of the night and handicap room was not what we requested and not that it was necessarily an issue, we however do not take disabled rooms when we travel out of our personal preference.and no one answered the front desk phone when we tried contacting them for other needs. Room was unclean with stains and dust and old smudged spills on surfaces of counters and furniture.

Overall, the stay was good. The downside is that there were ants in the room sporadically throughout the weekend and when I tried to call the front desk to tell them, no one answered. And the front door to the room allowed every little bit of outside noise to come through very clearly which made sleeping difficult. The room was clean and well organized though and the decor was very cute and aesthetic.

Lovely quiet clean rooms. Just what we needed. Only one little issue; the rooms were sprayed with a scented product that made both of our throats close up. We kept the door open as long as we could.

Actually an upscale motel. Rooms were nice,but no counter/table space, no desk area to work. Welcome mat was very worn. Pool area would be nice for summer time.

The social media team deserves a big bonus for marketing the property. It was late and rainy when we checked in, so I can’t say I got the same impression as what I saw on Instagram. The rooms were spacious but not well insulated so you could hear everything happening outside and around the room. The location was great, but I can’t say I would go back.

The property was cute! And there's a Trader Joe's nearby that's convenient. We had a kitchenette that came with a microwave, convection oven, and stagg water kettle! So handy. And a sink for washing! The room was super clean, bed comfy - it's just a renovated motel so it's a bit noisy. But not a dealbreaker. The staff was nice at check in, but we did get a knock on the door from housekeeping waking us at 8 AM on Sunday, the day we were checking out, which wasn't ideal. Overall not so bad though!

The Sandman Hotel is a good bargain. The room was spacious and clean. It is easy to tell this hotel had recently had some renovations. It is pretty conviently located off of Hwy 101. The breakfast was the usual hotel breakfast, not great but it saves you $50 instead of going out for breakfast. My only complaint is there was only one tiny table about 2 feet high and only one chair. An extra chair and a real table would have been nice. Overall though, the Sandman is a good value and pretty comfortable. I would stay there again.

The room was clean when we arrived. We thought it was trange when the tv would not turn on, but when travelling, these things happen. It was the next day when we realized everything was unplugged. Refridge, microwave, tv. Plugged it back in, but fridge still did not work. And we had perishables. They came and fixed that immediately. Toilet seat was broken...ants visited our room...wifi reception for phones was not good. Breakfast was nice, but food, like yougurt was not replenished once it was gone. We reported evrything to the receptionist.

Room was clean. Property was clean. The only they need to do is upgrade to foam mattresses. Spring mattresses are very uncomfortable.

I appreciated the real breakfast (coffee, waffles, eggs, sausage, cereal) and basic cleanliness. However, the lack of blackout curtains (we only had shades/blinds) made it hard to sleep with the street light and then sunlight in teh morning coming into the room.

Stayed a night. Comfy bed, sheets are so-so. The decor is excellent, but the walls are rather thin. I heard every step from above and the dog barking in the room next to me. Thankfully neither lasted long and wasn't annoying. I would stay here again for a quick stay.

We have never had bad service as the service we got at the Sandman. The 2 girls we spoke at the lobby were absolutely not acknowledging us, they clearly did not want to work there, they were inpolite and could not answer to any of our questions. Clearly the most terrible service I have had. Also, the concierge looked at us and said some disgusting remarks to both of us women. Absolutely horrible.

I want to thank you so much. I had such a wonderful time, the people that with that are professional and support friendly. When I walked into the front to check in, I was greeted with a smile and they offered me a bottle watered. Love, love, loved my visit. Thank you

We had a long day of traveling and were exhausted. We booked The Sandman while on the road. We arrived after 11pm ready to just collapse into any bed we could find. I'm thankful we found the Sandman. I went to check in and the night attendant was the LOVELIEST woman EVER. She greeted me with a big, beautiful smile and the sweetest personality. I'm sorry that I cannot remember her name because she deserves ALL the praise for her kindness that evening. It really ended a long, difficult day of travel on a high note. She could see i was tired and she offered us a room right above the office. She could see we were parked just outside the office and her room assignment ensured we didnt have to move our car....just unload the car and head to our room. The room itself was simple, clean and had the most comfortable bed. It was well represented in the photos and we were happy with our stay. They have a Huckleberry's Cafe right next door and we had a great breakfast the next morning, before continuing our journey. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Sandman again.

Really frustrating to be calling them up about my deposit and they keep coming up with all sorts of excuses! What’s so difficult of just taking the damn $100 and putting them in my bank account. When I checked out the lady at the reception said they will deposit my money in 5 working days, then when I reached out they said to wait for 7 working days- just pathetic! Very disappointed. If you ever book at this hotel, keep calling them until your money is given back to you or just don’t book at their hotel. I really regret booking here.

This hotel has been our go-to for years. Almost always stay here when we have doctor appointments in San Francisco. I mistakenly left my sweater hanging in the closet this time and was able to retrieve it after our appointment. The staff had collected it and bagged it and personally handed it to me when I came back for it. Sweet staff. My only complaint was that the hotel was significantly booked and the folks above us weren't that quiet. The noise finally quieted down around 1am, but we had to wake up at 4:30am to make our appointment on time. We will still stay here on our next trip and many trips thereafter.

I booked this property as part of a 3rd party package. Upon arrival I was charged again. When I confronted the desk clerk she simply my reservation didn’t say 3rd party nor did it say paid. She did not offer to get a manager or to assist me in any way HOWEVER Adiel at Expedia went above and beyond to get me my refund. He was exceptional!

We booked this hotel because of the great reviews on Expedia and how kid and dog friendly it looked online. We purchased a double queen bed and they called minutes later to tell us there were no double bed rooms available but they had a single queen. We asked for a fold out couch or another bed of some sort and they said they’d put a roll away bed in there. We checked in and see that the bed only had a bottom sheet. We stopped by the front desk to ask for another pillow and sheet or blanket so our kids had something to sleep on and they informed us they had nothing except towels. We understand hotels being full or understaffed at times but there were no apologies from the front desk staff at all. There were no other options given to us or even offered. My husband walked past a room that was open with two beds but when we asked them about it at check out they said it was two kings not queens. We would have gladly paid for an upgrade if it was known. Instead we paid for a double room and only received one queen bed. As a family with two little kids and a baby this was a difficult night of sleep for us. The facilities at this hotel are great for kids and families with pets. The breakfast by the pool was just what we needed and the kids still had a blast. Please don’t offer rooms you don’t have anymore. There was no way for me to refund what we paid Expedia and the hotel was not accommodating to us at all. Still trying to work with them to get a price adjustment.

Nice retro look, very clean. Hotel was close to the 101 fwy, it was close to plenty of places to get food and gas.

Unrelated to the Sandman itself but in the general surrounding area there are lots of homeless. I come to Santa Rosa for the Snoopy Hockey Tournament and the Sandman is clean, quiet and really convenient; close to the arena and a variety of eating options (Sam’s For Play cafe is great for breakfast). Golf, Russian River, and wineries are also close by.

We loved the quiet location and convenience to so many things. We stayed for 4 days and we really enjoyed it! It was very clean and offered lots of amenities including breakfast, a pool, bar and pet areas.

The hot tub was really hot and it was nice. The pool wasn't really heated but it felt good after being in the hot tub. Breakfast was great. The breakfast area is small but it was fine.

Upgrading to the option with a toaster oven, sink, plates, bowls, cups and silverware really enhanced our stay as we went to Trader Joe’s just down the road and stocked up on goodies and dinner. Breakfast was okay, the pool area was nice and inviting.

Quick stop on our road trip, everything was clean & comfortable. Great shower! Breakfast that’s included wasn’t the best but the room & vibe was great!
