I arrived late after a very long drive. The elevator was out of order. I carried my bags down the hall and up 3 flights of stairs to my room, to find NO power in my room. I called downstairs and the clerk KNEW I had no power and still sent me to a dark room. It was parents weekend and all other hotels booked so I had very limited choices so finally went to sleep. I did not feel safe or secure at all. I cannot believe they didn’t tell me during checkin that there was a power outage and let me decide if I wanted to stay, find me a different room that was unaffected (the lobby lights were on and my friends staying on the first floor had power), or call other hotels to see if they could accommodate me. At the VERY least they should refund my room charges for the first night. “Breakfast” was hard boiled eggs, bananas, yogurt and bagels. Underwhelming. The second morning the lobby coffee was out of order, and with no coffee maker in the room, I had to leave the hotel to get coffee Do not ever stay at this property. Terribly managed

Do not stay here!!! This is one of the worst hotel stays I have experienced. The entire hotel smelled horrible. It was dirty, carpet has not been vacuumed in what looked like weeks. Towels were super thin and had stains. Mirror over the sink had a large crack. Elevator was broken. Smoke detector was dangling from the ceiling. Security latch above deadbolt was missing. I could go on about how bad it was but I will leave it there. Pay the extra and stay somewhere else.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Front lobby nice. Mostly clean. Property needs significant updates to outside of building as well as several of the indoor common areas and entryways/exits. Lawncare very poor. Overflowing trash bins. Overall, very poor curb appeal.

The rooms are not taken care of, the sinks had cracks in them, the counter top in the bathroom was chipped in multiple places. There was rust on all the metal pieces in the bath area. The shower head had one stream of water coming out of it and was rusted. The hotel in general was not cared for, the landscaping was non existent. The parking lot has holes in it. Just not a nice place to stay at all!!

This was a sparkling clean room. It was in good repair, as were all the areas we were in. Some highway noise. The cycling of the air conditioner was some of the quietest of places I’ve stayed. Breakfast was the usual yogurt, bread, cold cereal, coffee, juice and the flipper waffle iron.

Mildew and mold in the bathroom, food on the floor, one bed had stained sheets, oily or greasy smudges on the mirror behind the beds, some sort of fluids on the wall, smell of pot poor I g into our room as there was a huge gap in door frame and door. Door slammed around you everything shakes was woken up all night, freeway next to it can be heard as if windows wide open. Do not recommend under any circumstance.

This hotel needs work. Stains on the carpet in the stairwell; floor of the bathtub was grey (soap scum?); duvets need cleaning; sheets were thin. Breakfast was mediocre at best. The coffee was undrinkable. On a positive note, the staff were very pleasant and the beds are comfortable. We would not return to this hotel.

The management was excellent and helpful. This is an easy property to access and convenient for most things in Ames. As oft is the case with Microtel, the rooms are small, but they fit the purpose…a place to lay my head. Clean and appeared to have new carpet in the halls.

Fan was falling in bathroom, security lock was missing part of hit to catch, tiolet had to shake handle so wouldn’t run, air conditioner was noisy and ran ineffectively we actually open window with screens to help cool room. The upside was it was one of cheapest in town as it was graduation weekend. Tried to save some $$ but probably wouldn’t stay another time.

Staff was helpful and friendly. I was staying here for business but was also able to have family come and visit. Walking into the lobby, there is a terrific smell. I spent 4 nights and decided to get a larger room with a sofa and mini kitchen. We stay here usually 2 - 3 times a year. They also accept pets for a charge. The only place I found to be somewhat dirty was the elevator carpet. Otherwise the hotel was great!

The hotel staff was incredibly unfriendly to us. We had just driven 6 hours with my 2 year old and 8 year old. My 2 year old had been in his car seat cooped up for several hours. We arrived at about 8:30 p.m. He was VERY active when we got into the room because he was stuck in his car seat for so long. He needed to get some energy out. He was running around the room (in a controlled manner - but he was busy). We did not even have our bags unloaded (so maybe after 8 minutes of getting in and getting settled) we get a call from the front desk that we were being too loud for the people below us! Keep in mind it was not even after 9:00 p.m. at this time. I felt like we couldn't even walk around unpacking our bags for fear of getting scolded again! I let the kids watch a movie and they settled down but after that we were not welcomed by the front desk staff at all. Anytime we had a question we were treated as if we were outcasts. The next day, we asked for help with the television in the workout room (which was a pretty lame workout room) and he couldn't figure it out so he just walked out after trying to help us for maybe 2 minutes... Didn't apologize. He didn't care that it didn't work. We then left to go and find a park nearby because we needed to get out of there. We felt very unwelcomed when we went to breakfast as well. My kids are GOOD kids... perfect, NOPE. But.... not like we were treated. If you have kids, do NOT go to this hotel.

Stopped here on the way to Mayo. It was decent. I liked the open space behind hotel for walking my dog as it is NOT a walkable neighborhood.

The management was excellent and helpful. This is an easy property to access and convenient for most things in Ames. As oft is the case with Microtel, the rooms are small, but they fit the purpose…a place to lay my head. Clean and appeared to have new carpet in the halls.

This property is fantastic! Very under-rated!!! I have always have had great experiences here. The staff is great and the hotel is very clean. The complimentary breakfast is plentiful and there is coffee all day! Don't hesitate to stay here!

Everything was easy and comfortable. We were traveling as a family, needed a place to stay for 1 night. Nothing fancy, just quick clean and comfy. The breakfast selection was more tha. I expected. We would stay there again.

Nice clean quiet place with crappy breakfast. Any other hotel with breakfast has all the breakfast items. This hotel all you got is toast, eggs, cereal and muffins. No bacon or sausage. The waffle mix is so diluted that once it's ready to eat all you have is fries air that turns to mush when syrup is added. Beds are clean but the room is so so. Just look at the back if the tv. Overall, we would stay here again, just have breakfast somewhere else.

This hotel needs work. Stains on the carpet in the stairwell; floor of the bathtub was grey (soap scum?); duvets need cleaning; sheets were thin. Breakfast was mediocre at best. The coffee was undrinkable. On a positive note, the staff were very pleasant and the beds are comfortable. We would not return to this hotel.

El hotel es muy bonito pero le falta un poco en cuanto a limpieza en 6 dias que estuve nunca entraron a limpiar el cuarto...y el desayuno deberian tener cosas variadas...por lo demas me gusto mucho!

I had requested first floor room. They put me on the second floor all the way at the end. I have trouble walking long distances. They told me there was no rooms available on the first floor. Hmmm... After telling the manager that I couldn't walk long distances a first floor room magically appeared. I was told that I could have that room at no extra charge. Ok. Thanks? I went to the room and I just had enough time to open the door and push in my suitcase. Didn't walk in. When I came back for the night, when I walked in, I couldn't breathe. The stench of cigars and something else took over the room. I walked in and walked right out. Went to the front desk and asked to have my room switched again. The smell was unbearable. He smirked. He did then put me on the third floor at the end of the hall. At this point, I was too tired to argue with him and the distance. This morning, I went to enjoy the continental breakfast. The bagels wer we stale. So I went to get slice of white bread. It was moldy. I strongly recommend you choose another hotel to stay at. Not worth the money I paid.
