Great location, very nice check-in process with a personalized follow-up text to ensure everything was going well. Comp wine hour in lobby was nice. Scarpetta restaurant attached big plus. Outstanding brunch.

The property is comfortable, beautiful, and the staff is very nice. The only problem is: they don’t have acoustic sealing on the windows… it is impossible to sleep after 7 am, not to mention the countless ambulances and police cars with loud sirens during the night. Also, the hotel have a bar that is very busy and works until 2 am, creating a noisy environment to the guests. This is the only caveat about this property. It is impossible to have decent sleep there

This is a charming hotel in a fun part of Manhattan close to Ktown and many great restaurants. There was a nice compact gym with 2 peloton bikes and free weights.

I’ve stated several times in the past few months. The gym equipment is poor and broken, despite being told it’s being fixed (back in November 2024). The soap bottles are broken in the shower, told housekeeping 2x, never changed or fixed.

We've stayed at the James twice. First with our family and second time just 2 adults. The unique after wine and snacks are particularly great. Rooms are large by NYC standards. It's quiet and near both restaurants and transportation. The speakeasy in the lower level is pretty cool. Would definitely recommend.

Well-located. Functional. Nothing majorly dirty but didn't feel the cleanest. Carpet in hallways doesn't fit and is stained. Bathroom is a decent size for an NYC hotel. Normal NYC noise level at night.

My sons slept on a sofa bed that was very stained and uncomfortable. You can actually feel the springs when lying down. The room was very outdated and infested with gnats. One son killed 16, he was counting, I gave up and so did my other son. Everyone at the hotel was very kind and professional though. I want to give a special shoutout to Amelia, the woman who cared/cleaned our room. She did an amazing job despite the condition of the room.

I loved almost everything about this hotel. I plan to stay here again because it’s incredibly convenient, the staff is nice, and it’s overall a nice hotel. My only complaint is that I think they should review the condition of the shower curtains periodically. My bathroom had a very strong mildew smell that was really unpleasant when I used the bathroom and showered. But other than that, I left the door closed so that it wouldn’t really affect me the rest of the time.

The Seville was convenient to everything we wanted to visit, but also not in the heart of Times Square, which was nice. It was quiet at night, clean, and the staff was absolutely wonderful. The only improvement was that the room, while very clean, felt very damp and probably needs to have the air conditioning left on or a dehumidifier.

I couldn't find a way to turn off the air conditioner. It was extremely loud overnight. There was no toothbrush. Since it's the first time I visited New York, I didn't know if providing toothbrush was forbidden by local laws. Besides, there was no shower towel on the last night.

The James advertise VIP access. What we couldn't get; early check-inn, room upgrade, late check-out - or a reaction from front desk or housekeeping on a rather disgusting room with sketchy WiFi. Had to have meetings in the noisy lobby. This is at best an overpriced 3 star hotel with rather unfriendly, uninterested front desk staff.

Great location, the hotel is modern, clean, and the staff is very friendly and helpfull. I recommend asking for a bedroom that does not face the street as the street noise (typicall of NYC) makes it hard to have a good night sleep...

While it's expected for most mid-tier hotels in New York, the rooms were tiny. Difficult to navigate even just with a small carry-on, we were opening our room door into the bag since we laid it on the floor. Also, the biggest issues we had were from the bathroom. The bathroom door didn't close all the way and the shower was not very leak-proof. I think I had higher expectations since I typically have very nice stays in any Hyatt hotel. The hotel was still nice since it was very walkable to the areas we were interested in visiting, but next time, I would pay for a better accommodation.

I stayed here with 3 friends for a girls’ trip. This hotel exceeded our expectations. The price was fair, and our room was spacious, which is unusual for NYC. It was comfortable and pretty quiet as well. The window curtains blocked out light completely so the room could stay dark even in the daylight. Staff was friendly and the bar area downstairs was so nice. Highly recommend this place!

Unfortunately check-in was a disaster. I was staying in the city for work and I understand when an early check-in isn’t available but when it’s 430pm I’ve been working all day and now I’m still unable to get a room to get cleaned up before a work event that going to go until the late night. Very unfortunate. I wish the hotel contacted us prior to arrival or how about a voucher to make up for the inconvenience. Bed and bathroom was comfortable, only a frosted window with no view of the outside.. but it didn’t really matter since I barely had any time in the room

I am a Platinum level Expedia traveler and am usually treated much better at hotels that are suggested by Expedia. I prepaid my stay in full and was surprised by the attitude of the check in staff. They did not even take the time to acknowledge my status. When I asked about upgrades the response was rude and they did not even appear to check. In addition they never mentioned the perks that I was entitled to and I actually had to request it. Upon check out the room credit was not credited and I again had to ask for it to be applied. The rooms are small and this is to be expected in NYC but the bathroom shower head looked cheap and the shower gel bottle was empty. Luckily we brought our own. Imagine if I had gotten in the shower only to realize that it was empty? Based on the cost and location I expected way better. We frequently stay in the city to go to shows and dinner but I will not return to this hotel or recommend it to my friends and family.

The rooms are small and this is to be expected in NYC but the bathroom shower head looked cheap and the shower gel bottle was empty. Luckily we brought our own. Imagine if I had gotten in the shower only to realize that it was empty? Based on the cost and location I expected way better. We frequently stay in the city to go to shows and dinner but I will not return to this hotel or recommend it to my friends and family.

I was billed an extra 50.00 a day as activity expense unaware of until check out. Also they charge me for drinks and extra food I did not have. I am disputing some of this now. From what I thought was a nice deal for a get away cost several hundred more. I am not to happy with this marketing and overbilling for things I did not purchase.

We loved the James: Location - prefect midtown location, close to subway, bus stops, walking distance to The Empire State, Times Square, and even Soho (if you enjoy walking NYC). Tons of restaurants in the area, from all kinds, and a nice EATALY just near by in Madison Square The hotel is in great shape, has an old authentic feeling that is well maintained. The room was big enough for the three of us, the beds were one of the more comfortable we had. Water pressure was good, and the water was blazing hot. The only improvement I would suggest is having more room and hangers in the bathroom. There is no room to place all out stuff

Will be staying here again. The location in mid town is great as its equal distance to Central Park and Soho, so conveniently in the middle if that is what you are looking for. Rooms are comfy too. Really can't complain, quite a nice experience.

What an amazing hotel. Service was impecable!!! The Since you open the main door to the lobby the signature scent embraces you! Complimentary coffee every morning at the Lobby and 5-6 wine tasting. Beds and pillows are sooo comfortable.... just perfect to recharge after walking around NY all day. Do not forget to try the italian cuisine at the restaurant/bar. The ravioli are to die for! I will be coming back!!! Loved this place.

This is a beautiful hotel within walking distance of restaurants. The only disappointment we had was getting room service. They closed the kitchen early one night and didn’t answer the phone one of our mornings there. The rooms are very nice size.

The room was larger than expected, which was a bonus as we were traveling with two children. Bed was comfortable, however, the couch bed for the children was the complete opposite. Rooms could use a deep cleaning and some updating. Restaurant on property served terrible breakfast, recommend eating elsewhere.

Previously stayed at (old) James in Soho and Chicago. Both were cool, modern properties. This felt like a warmed over Marriott. Furnishings were meh and decor dated. Room was large for NYC but empty and unwelcoming. Worst was room service. I expected the Scarpetta menu (or close to it) to be available. Instead it just had 1 massively overpriced pasta dish along with a steak and roast chicken. Terrible selection. No idea why they can’t do the proper menu , given the restaurant is right there.

The room was very small, and no bath tub, just a shower, which was nit shown when looking at the pictures of the rooms. Also, the body wash bottle was broken and could not use, but luckily I had my own. Other than those minor things, the building was nice, and clean. I went to the The Seville, and enjoyed the drinks. I order room service for breakfast, and the food was delicious.

Great location. Walkable to all the best of Manhattan in my opinion. Scarpetta is excellent. Seville is good. Rooms need more life. They are a little dull. Could be warmer at check in and out.

We've stayed at the James twice. First with our family and second time just 2 adults. The unique after wine and snacks are particularly great. Rooms are large by NYC standards. It's quiet and near both restaurants and transportation. The speakeasy in the lower level is pretty cool. Would definitely recommend.

The room was excellent and property was excellent. The service was not as good as the park south hyatt. For one, there was always someone opening and closing the front door at the park south, not at the Seville. At times the doorman couldn’t be bothered. They don’t introduce themselves to the customers either. The front desk staff are just there. You can tell it’s just a job for them. Again they should see how welcoming the front desk is at park south in comparison. In addition the morning coffee and hot water was not maintained very well. They should be on top of it so people are not kept waiting. Also if the morning fruit is consumed, that’s it. They won’t add more. Not a good look for a 4 star hotel that tries to give the impression that they are worth it.
