Booked at the last minute, the hotel proved to be easy to find, quick friendly check-in. The room was lovely, with a comfy super-king bed, a large room, well lit by 4 windows, good-size shower room, modern and all very clean. Dinner and drinks in the dining room, good portions, well cooked and presented, good value, great service.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, the food was terrific , the room was big. Would recommend this hotel. But, no elevator (lift) so not wheelchair friendly.

I stayed overnight on Tues 20 May-Wed 21 May to meet friends on the morning of 21 May, to visit Montrose Museum & Art Gallery. I had booked lunch for 1.00pm in the hotel. Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch were all served very efficiently. Portions of food were generous.

We booked the George last minute. At £99 we thought a wee bit pricey - but it was the Montrose festival and understood. We had the dog with us - and everyone in the hotel made a fuss of Teddy - the room had a lovely dog bed, treats and a couple of bowls - couldn't fault them. Breakfast time was a bit disorganised - but nothing major - waitress was on her own and was lovely-and we werent in a hurry really. Parking very convenient - would definitely recommend - we were on top floor so you would need to be agile. Thanks for a lovely stay x

George Hotel is a really lovely pub. Excellent food and a really nice comfortable room - with Netflix!! Great shower and nice heating for the chilly nights. We are bike packing so the lovely managers allowed us to keep our bicycles safely secured in the rear yard which was very much appreciated. We had a really yummy breakfast that sustained us for our entire day of cycling! Highly recommend this hotel to anyone passing through Montrose!

Very good experience from check-in to checkout. Staff were extremely good. One word of warning though. No lift makes staying in room 25 upwards a bit of a trek. Besides that the room itself was worth it.

Hotel was lovely and clean with very fresh decor. Very helpful and friendly staff.dined in hotel every night,good value and nice range of dinners.Great breakfast in the morning with very civilised dining times.Our stay was over the weekend and the pub across the road had a disco going until about 1.00 am, one of those things. Montrose is a nice wee town with lovely drives all around,would certainly return.

Absolutely awful, we booked for two nights and left after one. The hotel itself is very average. The room was basic but on the plus side appeared clean. We were travelling with a newborn baby and a dog and no cot was provided so we had to go and buy one. Water pressure was terrible, shower was really poor and cold water was tepid permanently. The WiFi didn't reach the room either as the room was up 4 flights of uneven and unlevel stairs. We had to ask for a fan to cool the room down and were told there wasn't one. Room temperature didn't drop below 30 degrees Celsius which was horrendous and potentially dangerous for a newborn baby. Location is opposite a pub and round from a nightclub, once the noise from those dissipated at around 3.30am the seagulls started. Breakfast was average, the fry up was really greasy and everything appeared to be deep fried. One staff member tried to be helpful and even moved us rooms but we couldn't face another noisy night in the blistering heat so decided to move to the Lunan Hotel ten minutes away which was absolute bliss in comparison. Definitely would not recommend staying at the George Hotel, massively overpriced for the standard of accommodation.

Booked this king room as it said it was pet friendly. Got there and the young lad on reception said room was not pet friendly. I informed him that 20mins after i booked the room i phoned the hotel to check about the room and it was he that assured me the rooms are pet friendly. He had to change us to a double room but charged us the same price. Double room was £11 less. Room was noisy all night with a draft coming through the window. Room was dirty, dust everywhere and the curtains were a disgrace. Breakfast was nice but when i spoke to the lady on reception about our room and asked for a discount i got nothing but attitude and no thanks or goodbye. Would not stop here again if you paid me. Totally ruined our New years eve.

My husband and I were traveling up the coast and heard Montrose was a cute town so we booked the George. The location, staff and food were outstanding. The breakfast was varied, hot and delicious. Our room was quite large and had a beautiful window seat and plenty of chairs so you can spend time in the room if you need a break On the downside, I was dissapointed in the hotel room based on the photos and ratings. It is very old and needs a lot of love. The room smelled like paint and the floors are oddly squishy. The bathroom felt almost industrial from long ago. Carpet felt dirty although everything else was clean. Decor was all over the place, modern vs. old and ranges from NY hip to grandmas house. It wasn't inviting but has SO MUCH POTENTIAL HOWEVER, for the location, history and price I would recommend a stay here.

The staff was good and the food in the restaurant was good. The downside was Sharky's across the street was so loud on Friday night and Saturday night, my wife and I could not fall asleep until after two AM..

Very noisy night due to the pubs in the area. Pillows were paper thin. Breakfast was a bismal not due to the poor waitress that was run off her feet! Always had good meals there but definitely not fit for staying.

Booked this king room as it said it was pet friendly. Got there and the young lad on reception said room was not pet friendly. I informed him that 20mins after i booked the room i phoned the hotel to check about the room and it was he that assured me the rooms are pet friendly. He had to change us to a double room but charged us the same price. Double room was £11 less. Room was noisy all night with a draft coming through the window. Room was dirty, dust everywhere and the curtains were a disgrace. Breakfast was nice but when i spoke to the lady on reception about our room and asked for a discount i got nothing but attitude and no thanks or goodbye. Would not stop here again if you paid me. Totally ruined our New years eve.

We booked the George last minute. At £99 we thought a wee bit pricey - but it was the Montrose festival and understood. We had the dog with us - and everyone in the hotel made a fuss of Teddy - the room had a lovely dog bed, treats and a couple of bowls - couldn't fault them. Breakfast time was a bit disorganised - but nothing major - waitress was on her own and was lovely-and we werent in a hurry really. Parking very convenient - would definitely recommend - we were on top floor so you would need to be agile. Thanks for a lovely stay x

George Hotel is a really lovely pub. Excellent food and a really nice comfortable room - with Netflix!! Great shower and nice heating for the chilly nights. We are bike packing so the lovely managers allowed us to keep our bicycles safely secured in the rear yard which was very much appreciated. We had a really yummy breakfast that sustained us for our entire day of cycling! Highly recommend this hotel to anyone passing through Montrose!

Enjoyable stay in comfortable room 16. It is situated on 2nd floor above laundry..so nice and warm...windows open for ventilation Staff were courteous and helpful...breakfast was superb...Thanks to all staff

Very good experience from check-in to checkout. Staff were extremely good. One word of warning though. No lift makes staying in room 25 upwards a bit of a trek. Besides that the room itself was worth it.

Overnight stay on business trip, Old style hotel with the quirks that come with it, Food great , but service poor and slow, young lad on breakfast can only assume in training, not aware of customers , could retain requests, 4 times had to ask for coffee, sat 20 mins before I had to approach him for service etc etc

Can’t praise this hotel highly enough. From the moment we arrived the staff were excellent, extremely helpful and friendly and made us feel at home. Food was first class with a choice of smaller portions for those with small appetites. The staff is a credit to the George.

The staff was good and the food in the restaurant was good. The downside was Sharky's across the street was so loud on Friday night and Saturday night, my wife and I could not fall asleep until after two AM..

Booked at the last minute, the hotel proved to be easy to find, quick friendly check-in. The room was lovely, with a comfy super-king bed, a large room, well lit by 4 windows, good-size shower room, modern and all very clean. Dinner and drinks in the dining room, good portions, well cooked and presented, good value, great service.

Montrose is a beautiful place and the George hotel makes the visit there even better. The staff are great and the food is amazing, we shall return.

Very noisy night due to the pubs in the area. Pillows were paper thin. Breakfast was a bismal not due to the poor waitress that was run off her feet! Always had good meals there but definitely not fit for staying.

Hotel was lovely and clean with very fresh decor. Very helpful and friendly staff.dined in hotel every night,good value and nice range of dinners.Great breakfast in the morning with very civilised dining times.Our stay was over the weekend and the pub across the road had a disco going until about 1.00 am, one of those things. Montrose is a nice wee town with lovely drives all around,would certainly return.

I stayed overnight on Tues 20 May-Wed 21 May to meet friends on the morning of 21 May, to visit Montrose Museum & Art Gallery. I had booked lunch for 1.00pm in the hotel. Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch were all served very efficiently. Portions of food were generous.

My husband and I were traveling up the coast and heard Montrose was a cute town so we booked the George. The location, staff and food were outstanding. The breakfast was varied, hot and delicious. Our room was quite large and had a beautiful window seat and plenty of chairs so you can spend time in the room if you need a break On the downside, I was dissapointed in the hotel room based on the photos and ratings. It is very old and needs a lot of love. The room smelled like paint and the floors are oddly squishy. The bathroom felt almost industrial from long ago. Carpet felt dirty although everything else was clean. Decor was all over the place, modern vs. old and ranges from NY hip to grandmas house. It wasn't inviting but has SO MUCH POTENTIAL HOWEVER, for the location, history and price I would recommend a stay here.

The hotel hotel was nice, the room was more than adequate and the staff were great, my only complaint was it was close to a bar/club and you could hear people shouting and laughing on the street and the faint thump of music.
