The Pepin Mansion B&B on Mansion Row - 10 min to start of the Bourbon Trail

**NOTE** FULL DISCLOSURE on Victor Pepin Suite. This room does not have a bathroom in the suite. The bathroom for this suite is down 2 flight of stairs and toward the back of the mansion. Prior to arrival I spoke twice with Ron. He said the listing described the bathroom as “detached & private.” Before booking I did not see the description….only the pics which looked like the bathroom was in the suite. Ron’s comment was…no worries…we provide bathrobes. I was uncomfortable with the bathroom to my suite being so far from my room. It was a disappointing experience. My purpose of this review is to give travelers accurate info so they can make an informed decision.

The facility is nice. Our room one with the claw foot bathtub is a little tricky if you have any mobility issues. It looks cool but the shower is a handheld one only. No way to hang it so it works as a shower. The ceramic handle spins so it is difficult to grasp. You get wet, put down the hand held wand, soap up, grab the wand, rinse off, etc. very difficult to use. Plus the tub is really tall so hard when you are vertically challenged. I would have like to have a blind of some kind on the bathroom window, instead of just shear curtains. The hostess was wonderful and the owner did a great job making our breakfast. They need some type of sitting room. We had fun playing cards in the kitchen. Overall a good place to stay, just be careful in the bathroom.

You are making a mistake to skip by this spot and going to a hotel. Easy parking, fabulous and comfortable rooms, but the gourmet breakfast is worth it all by itself. Our second visit while passing through town. This is our go to spot. You won’t regret it!

We were looking for a unique lodging experience while passing through at the end of our vacation. This historic B&B fit the bill. The owner, Ron, gave us great information about the history behind the house along with curated items from the past. There are a lot of steps in this B&B, including 6 steps down to the bathroom associated with our room. Our only concern was upon arrival. Our rooms were not ready and a bit of a snag to get the key for the room. The owner, Ron, helped make the situation better by jumping in immediately in absence of the innkeeper. Overall, this is a really beautiful place and the breakfast was delicious.

The room was lovely and the bed was comfortable. The shower was a little hard to manage. Baths were better.

Great tour of mansion by owner. Antique shower and bath not user friendly. Everything else was excellent. I would recommend this B&B to history buffs, especially with owner conducted tour.

Staff was extremely helpful and efficient. Check in was easy and the property was era appropriate. I've stayed in fancier places, but the home was built in the mid-1850's so it doesn't have all of the amenities of a newer B&B but it was very nice and quaint.

Although i had confirmed reservations, the staff wasn't aware of my arrival and no one was at the property. The Ring doorbell video provided me communication and i was able to get to my room. During that communication i learned that my second floor room had its bathroom on the first floor. Not a good situation for a senior. Had someone been at the property i would have asked for a refund and found something else. The interior is nicely restored and has beautiful period furniture and art. The beds are comfortable and coffee, water, and a refrigerator available for guests. The lighting in the room was excellent and nicely set up for guests. Perhaps the room i was in hadn't been used in a while as it was dusty on both the floor and surfaces. There was differed maintenance in the front landscaping and surfaces. Viewing Google maps, It appeared to be a quick and convenient option to staying downtown Louisville. The drive was actually longer and more circuitous than it looks. In the future I'll stay in Louisville. The property is a good value and a nice change from hotels.

Its an awesome piece of history, freindly staff.. there are a lot of steps, and the bathroom is down stairs. But otherwise its a perfect place to unplug.

Amazing place to stay, excellent atmosphere, the rooms are comfortable and clean, the beds are wo comfortable, it is so quiet and peaceful, and the town is wonderful. This was my second stay and it will definitely will not be my last. Why would anyone stay at a commercial hotel instead of a genuinely clean, comfortable, and secure place like this with just a few guests between 4 rooms?

Amazing property we hope to return to. Only thing we can think to improve upon was the bathtub cleanliness. The shower curtain part around the tub had black mold spots and the tub was visibly dirty, looking like the part of the tub under the shower liner was not cleaned regularly. Regardless- we cleaned it and enjoyed it and would come back in a heartbeat.

My wife & I had planned for a 3 night stay originally. The home was beautiful overall but our room was not clean. No one had cleaned room. There was dust everywhere on the furniture & the floor. Also - the private bathroom was not adjacent to the room but instead was down 6 very steep steps which was not mentioned on the web site. Lastly - as mentioned - we had planned a 3 night stay but our plans got changed. On the 2nd morning before breakfast - i tried to notify the owner that we needed to leave a day early. The owner was not present but a lady was found in the kitchen preparing breakfast. She explained to me that the owner was not there and would not be coming in due to a doctor appointment. She went further and added that she herself had been called in at the last minute to cover for the owner and she was not very happy about it. When i asked her the details of the home since we needed to leave early - she quickly told me that the money for the 3rd night was not refundable. I was not happy with that remark but said nothing else to the lady as she was not very obliging. The place was not that busy and i had in mind to come back and stay another night on my next trip - but that won't happen now. Bottom line - clean the rooms and be upfront on the bathroom situation.

Well maintained, renovated historic mansion. Beautiful period-appropriate styled furnishings & decor. Comfortable, clean & quiet. Owner was on site & attentive both days of our stay. Enjoyed his enthusiasm for the history of the mansion & surrounding area. Excellent value. Highly recommend!

Our stay was only one night. The mansion was beautiful. Breakfast was fantastic and our host/chef was very personable and helpful in providing recommendations for things to do and see in the area. One small negative is that, when we made our reservation, the only room available (2nd floor) did not have a connected bathroom; its bathroom was on the first floor. While it was a private bathroom just for us, it was somewhat inconvenient. All the other rooms have bathrooms.

We were in town for a funeral and opted to stay at the B&B instead of a traditional hotel. The mansion was beautifully decorated and would be a nice place for a wedding etc. this was our first time in a B&B and immediately we realized that this may not be a good fit for us as we tend to be hot natured and you can’t control your room temp in a B&B. Unfortunately, to make matters worse, the AC apparently went completely out and we woke up to a room temperature of 76 which is too hot for people like us that keep our home thermostat on 69. Obviously, this is something that couldn’t have been prevented and the Innkeeper, Ryan was extremely apologetic. Due to the temp, we did not stay for breakfast, but Ryan was out together a lovely fruit and yogurt parfait among other things.

The room was very comfortable and the formal breakfast was very good. The rates were reasonable.

This was located in a great place if you like to walk down to the riverfront and walk into town and shop. We walked into town and ate at Parlour Pizza. The Pepin B&B didn't have a bathroom in the room but you can walk down the stairs to either a public or private bathroom. The room was really pretty. The Innkeeper had brownies to share with guests and coffee was available any time of the day or night.

We loved our stay here! Highly recommend the Marilyn Suite as it is somewhat off by itself and is as large as a small apartment. Very clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Breakfast was delightful and we enjoyed the conversation with the other guests and the owner also joined us. Overall, pleasantly surprised and would stay again.

We stayed in the Marilyn suite. Very nice room which had a separate room to relax in the couch and watch TV. The owner was present, courteous and personable. Provided history of the home as well as New Albany. Enjoyable stay.

Stay was good other than no bathroom in room. Bathroom for room one is downstairs. Breakfast was nice. House is beautiful.

This was by far the WORST experience ever. The rooms are all on the second floor. After I found out about this, I texted the owner to see if there is an elevator, as I was traveling with my 83 yr old mom. He said no, but there was one flight of "easy" stairs -- we got there and there was a curved staircase with narrow steps -- NOT easy. When we got there, we found out that our room (Suite #1) has a detached bathroom -- that is not even on the same floor! And no, there\'s no toilet on the same level as the bedroom. The owner could have mentioned that, but didn\'t. We got there and realized the situation, and told the owner that my mom couldn\'t do this -- she gets up 3-4 times every night to use the bathroom and can\'t do these stairs. We asked if we could get a refund, and we would try to find another hotel. He said, "it\'s not my fault that you didn\'t read the fine print" -- and refused to give us our money back. So word to the wise -- the room may not have a bathroom on the same floor (which is NOT in the fine print), and the owner will not have any flexibility at all. My mom ended up falling down his stairs and had a head injury. The owner and management were informed -- no one even was concerned enough to see how she was doing. We left, and went to a Hampton Inn which is right around the corner. There, everyone was incredibly nice, the rooms were clean and it was just night and day...

Ryan is a great Innkeeper, his instructions were very helpful. House was clean, comfortable and remarkably beautiful. Can't wait to come back!

The property manager was knowledgable, gratious, and kind. I had a fantastic time chatting with him. We hope to stay again in the future!

It was fun to meet other guests during our breakfast. All of this is set in a gorgeous 1800’s mansion that has been lovingly restored.

This is a beautiful property inside and out. The check-in was great, as Ron, the owner, gave me a tour of the property as well as a history of the house itself, the town of New Albany and the surrounding areas. I was made to feel welcome and Ron made sure I had everything I needed. The breakfasts provided during your stay aren’t to be missed! This is not some continental breakfast, but an event with unique and delicious offerings shared with fellow guests. The neighborhood is quaint and quite while being surprisingly close to downtown Louisville, KY. Ron was also able to recommend excellent restaurants in the area and options for entertainment. I will definitely be returning to this lovely, historic home.

What a gem of a location for those wanting to visit Louisville and the area. The property is well maintained, clean and close to everything without having to be in downtown Louisville.

Wow!! What can i say about the Pepin besides what a beautiful piece of property. Very nice looking house that give you almost all access unless rooms are booked. The Innkeeper, Ryan, was absolutely amazing. We woke up to the smell of breakfast and warm conversation, decided to investigate and there he was, cooking an amazing breakfast for us. After breakfast, he was very inquisitive and looked to provide some guidance and advice on some sights to see while in the area. Unfortunately, being Monday, everything was closed but with a layer of snow to cover it, it made for a beautiful morning.

This place is an amazing weekend getaway or vacation stay. Extremely comfortable rooms and just so peaceful. It was the perfect escape that we needed. Ryan was a fantastic inn keep. He had so many great recommendations and made sure everything was perfect. Not to mention the breakfast is a definite must. I'm usually not a morning person, but I was for the beautifully prepared breakfast. We will absolutely be back if only for a weekend.
