The Brooks Motel

There was a hot shower, a bed with clean sheets and cold AC. That’s my bare minimum and it checked all the boxes. Pluses: they let me check in an hour or two early which was helpful. The pillows were fantastic. There was a dehumidifier running. We had to empty it, but I’m glad it was there to keep the space comfortable. Neutral: the floor is entirely concrete. Cold in the summer which is fine, might not be so nice in the winter. No rugs or carpeting. Bed was super firm. Not as comfortable as I was hoping but some folks might like it. A weirdly excessive amount of oriented strand board (basically plywood) for “decor”. Headboard, shelving, etc. Not so great: the ac was open at the bottom, letting whatever moths/little bugs fly in. I shoved a towel in the empty space to keep them out but it’s a short term fix. Parking was a little tricky. You’ll see what I mean if you book and get a corner unit. Nothing was a deal breaker and I’ll stay there again if I need to. It’s not the ritz, it’s a renovated motel in the middle of nowhere. Go in with reasonable expectations and you’ll be fine.

My stay at Brooks Motel in Hillsdale, NY, on December 22, 2024, was an absolute disaster. This place is unsafe, poorly managed, and blatantly disregards guest safety. Here’s what happened: First, the heating and hot water in my room didn’t work—in below-zero temperatures! Management, who only communicates via text, told me to let the water run, claiming “ongoing plumbing issues.” Unsurprisingly, this didn’t help. Next, I noticed water pooling under the door of the room next to mine. Instead of sending staff to address the issue, management asked me to enter the room myself. When I did, the ceiling collapsed, unleashing water and steam. The structural and plumbing failures were horrifying and dangerous. The situation was so bad I called the fire department, who arrived, assessed the damage, and declared the property unsafe. They ordered a full evacuation. While packing my belongings, the power began failing, adding to the chaos. To make matters worse, there was no staff physically present to handle the situation or help guests. Their complete lack of emergency preparedness left everyone on their own. After the ceiling collapse, I was moved to another room in terrible condition. Shortly afterward, the fire department evacuated the entire property. Despite all this—no heat, unsafe conditions, and being forced to evacuate—Brooks Motel refused to refund my money. Their refusal to take responsibility for these catastrophic failures and refund my money is unprofessional. Stay away !

the place has no sign at the entrance and was very dark when we arrived about 6 PM, the parking was poorly lighted,. felt uncomfortable till we got inside. the room was very clean and well prepared for guests. the people that i called were nice, very polite and helped all they could. there are thousands of old people like me traveling that do have the equipment or know hiow to take or text pictures of themselves so that is out of the question,

Pros: The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Cons: This is a very barebones set-up. Nobody checks guests in (or rather, it's all over text/email) and there is no staff around. In the rooms, the cement floors are very cold, there is a shortage of surfaces, and one little hook for clothes & coats. The bathroom fixtures were coming out of the wall and there were scratches & scuffs all over the door. Everything felt very cheaply made. During my stay, the power went out and there was a pile of leaves outside my door I had to trudge through. The reality doesn't live up to the cute photos. Wouldn't recommend, wouldn't stay here again.

Clean ! Great location

Staff very unfriendly not accommodating guest friendly..room was not ready ... After waiting beyond check in time room still not clean floors dirty. Items from previous guest still in room. Stained bedding. No microwave. Multiple Spiders in room. TV not working remote not working needed batteries.

The bedsheets had blood stains and a dead fly. The door did not safely lock.

Dirty. No one cleaned before we entered. Food from previous guest in the fridge. Trash that I won't describe in the trash bin. Rug sopping wet from a recent rainfall. When I reached out by text (the only way to reach them) they asked me to inform the cleaner in the morning.

The room was very comfortable & clean. It had a really nice shower, which is very important for us when travelling. Thank you! See you again some time.

Our room was bee infested. We killed 12 bees before we went to bed, several more in the am. We requested adjoining rooms and even though the hotel only had one other guest, this was not provided. No one on site to remedy this catastrophe.

Super cute, very clean, amazingly comfy bed! My only complaint is that we didn't stay long enough.

Overall, I really did like the property. I definitely looked a little cheaper than What I was expecting with the price paid The cleanliness of the place was overall pretty well, but there was stains on our bedsheets. They did them as asked, which was nice and they did come and clean the room, which was really nice.

This is a self serve motel, completely renovated. New beds, linens, very clean. There is no staff there, you check in on your mobile phone with text instructions. It was a easy, no hassle procedure for us.

Well it was a motel, so it was mainly a bed, TV, and a bathroom. Owner is remote so there is no staff, you are given a code to enter the room. Very basic, plastic chair to sit in to watch TV, concrete floors. It was a slow time of the year I stayed but I was the only one there so when I checked in and before I went to dinner, I was a bit freaked out that I was in this motel (around 20 units) entirely by myself, not staff or any other guests. When I did return from dinner around 9pm there was one other car there so I felt better. Again it is was ok, just a motel

Very spartan, which is not a problem. My only complaint is that there is no carpet only a cement floor which is very cold.

The hotel feels like it is in the first steps of rehab. Walls/trim were painted without being fully repaired. The floors were painted concrete, I guess they ripped up the old carpeting to make it habitable before they had the money to replace it. concrete floors in the winter are very cold.

Small room, but clean the only bad thing I can say is the bed is the hardest thing you can imagine.. you might think this is an exaggerated but seriously it feels just as hard as the wooden headboard .. I had to think maybe this so the base board and they forgot the mattress but nope just that hard .. I can't imagine anyone in their right mins would like this level of stiffness .. I'm saying lay on a picnic table .. that softer then this mattress ..

Comfortable bed. Rooms smelled like the plywood used to build the furniture. Took a bit to adjust. No front desk or help on site - need to call if you have any issues.

The single rooms are small and basic, but extremely well done and thoughtfully furnished. Extremely good value.

Absolutely no sound insulation between rooms, so your experience might depend on how quiet/respectful your neighbors are! Bring ear plugs. Location and value for cost were good.

To check in, you need to call a number and fill out a text with your information. Digital code for the door, no one there for housekeeping if you need something. Lovely land, but my goodness its awful. Pictures seem way bigger and nocer than what the rooms really are. Water doesn't get hot for showers. Toliet paper, as seen in my pictures, was left like that. Checked in to a messy dirty area. Food from previous stay was left in fridge and smelled so gross. Only good thing is the bed, thats it. Not worth the price. Theyre charging hotel numbers forgetting that they are just a motel. Come morning I had already been told I coupd have late check out, woke up to a house keeper banging on the door over and over. I answered it and she kept saying "no english". It was awful to be honest. Not kid friendly or pet, due to the way the traffic is on the highway on top of the hill. Plywood is literally thrown everywhere as decor, headboard. Got a splinter so be careful. I was in room 9. Allergic to bees? Theres hives everywhere specially in the ac which doesnt work that well.

Check in was confusing. No front desk person. And no one on property to trouble shoot. And so far no instructions for check-out. Totally self directed stay however that lack of staffing didnt seem to be reflected in any lower prices. The room was expensive & smaller than pictured. Positives: comfy beds and humble but cute decor.

There are not many places to stay near Hillsdale, NY. The Brooks Motel is an exceptional find. A renovated 1950s roadside motel, The Brooks provided a safe haven for the night. A no host hotel, guests are provided by email a code for the keypad on the door. A text and phone number are provided to reach the host if something is needed. The hosts are quick to respond and very gracious. Beds are new memory foam and very comfy. My only complaint is that there is no carpet on any floor, only concrete.

No office or way to receive help. We were missing a tv remote. I made 4 calls and they did nothing. I would not go back.

Excellent customer service!! Very accommodating and took my concerns seriously. Room was modern and very clean. I over slept because the bed was that comfortable. Will definitely go back and refer to friends. Until next time.

I can only speak to room 26 which had no bathroom mirror, no lighting options other than harsh overheads, and a gigantic stain on the carpet by the bed, consistent with where one might vomit if roused from drunken sleep by the need to do so. What's more, this is one of those no-front-desk code-key fake hotels, so customer service is nonexistent; as a business traveler booking with a corporate card I had to contact my supervisor on the weekend to send both sides of her driver's license before the property would provide me with the code to check in. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO ACTUALLY *RUN A HOTEL*, MAYBE DON'T BE IN THE HOTEL BUSINESS.

Perfect little place to stay to go to Catamount!

Very clean and nice little motel, close to an awesome ski resort. The customer service people are extremely helpful as well.

Strange at first because it doesnt look, or feel, like a motel ive been to before. Summer camp-ish, in a good way. I woke up unmurdered to the sound of birds and a stream that flows behind the building. I highly recommend.

It was exactly what we needed for the visit. Clean room, tv, wifi, excellent shower, towels, coffee. It’s a little bare-bones (concrete floor and painted plywood walls), but noise wasn’t an issue. Seamless checkin and checkout. Would stay again.

The room even though very small it was clean . Cleverly decorated. The toilet holder was loose . The coffee provided was very good . The room served our needs . We needed a room at a reasonable price so this was it. If you are looking for luxury this is not it n I mean that in a positive way not in a negative one …. Just a true reflection. The air conditioner is loud.
