Very pleasant stay with helpful and friendly staff. The hotel is as close as you can get to the centre of Abingdon and from that point of view a great place to stay. It also has a great restaurant with great food and friendly staff. Unfortunately being a very old building, it is not disabled friendly, all the rooms are on the first and second floors, not lift, and very narrow stairs. Also we found the light switches in our room very confusing and we had to have our cardkeys reprogrammed a number of times.

The hotel gave me a room with a gorgeous roll top bath as I had requested, so I was very grateful to enjoy a luxurious soak. I also was very happy with the breakfast; you can order anything off their menu, however it was inconvenient that breakfast wasn't served until 8am because I had a to be at a seminar in the centre of Oxford by 9am and I ended up arriving there late. I also could not find the car park so had to pay for the long stay.

Had a excellent stay at the C&T last week.. Ewan was the manager running shift, very helpful, Well informed.. very good at his job.. Food is really good 👍 Would go back anytime..

Beautiful building with tremendous character . Staff very pleasant and helpful . Car parking can be problematic because of the way people thoughtlessly park . It would be useful if registration numbers are taken during booking in to avoid being blocked in . Some parts of the building would benefit from a lick of paint and carpets are tired . Breakfast outstanding x

Great location with great restaurant. Breakfast was included in the room, and we were amazed to learn that meant we could order anything on the menu.

Beautiful area. Lovely clean room. Only downside of coming in winter or during bad weather is the restaurant and hotel are not all in one building. They are only a few steps apart but enough to get wet. Also not great for elderly due to cobbles floor outside area. But that’s all part of the character of the building. Will definitely be staying again as we live Abingdon.

Great hotel. Central to Abingdon, with parking, great restaurant and the breakfast was really something else. Highly recommended. The only thing I would recommend is for the hotel to include the postcode of the car park on the confirmation as car park has a different postcode to the hotel. Other than than, top place to stay.

I really enjoyed the service and the guy in the checking has some humor which I love. First I really appreciated the room, it looked cozy and u also commented on that, but when night fell and the lights by the bed was lit, I saw how very dirty and stained the floors where. Bug brown spots made me look for bugs but no bugs, so no worry but since the bedsheets was clean, the toilet was pristine I am a bit disappointed and a bit concerned why they did not just wet vacuum the floors once in a while?

The room definitely needed an overhaul! Paint peeling off walls. Very compact bathroom. Also very noisy pipe work affecting sleep. However lovely dining area, considerate staff and great breakfast.

Our room was in urgent need of decoration. Damp on the ceiling, wallpaper and paint peeling off. Old mattress and pillows, the room should not have been allowed to be booked until redecorated and refurbished. The staff however were excellent, unfortunately they couldn't offer us an alternative, suitable room. We did however get a discount on our stay. The breakfast and evening meal was excellent.

The dinner in the restaurant was outstanding, so I had high hopes for the breakfast which was a bit of a let down. The hotel itself is comfortable but could do with a lick of paint, the bedroom smelt a little damp but it was cute. I'd visit again if I was in the area still.

Lovely staff but starting to get run down. They boast of the £1.8m renovation but that was done in 2013, but it’s now showing signs of having nothing done since. The carpets are tatty and walls marked. The restaurant food is solid and waitstaff attentive. Overall a solid 4 out of 5

The building and room was very pretty! The bed was comfortable and the pub food and drink was great too. But.. the room was freezing (the tiny heater provided didn't warm the space) so I slept terribly, the outside noise was loud, I could hear people even just talking in the next room, the hot water was non existent for the sink and the shower was either scalding or ice cold. Also the bottom of the bath was weirdly warped and very uncomfortable to stand on. Lastly there was not enough privacy in the bathroom. The giant window was only half frosted, and still mostly clear. The window looked out onto the main road and directly into the windows opposite. There was no blind, only a voile curtain that again offered no privacy. I felt incredibly uncomfortable in there. I was there one night for business. Maybe there was an issue with the heating and water whilst I was there. Without this i might not have noticed the other issues so much, but sadly I was just cold and exhausted when I left.

Great stay! A little slow on checkin arrival as the reception staff are also the restaurant staff, but they were apologetic and we weren’t in a rush. Polite, clean and characterful hotel. Bed were comfy and bathroom very cosy for a lovely bath! We love this hotel and town!

Great stay with great service from all staff in hotel and in restaurant. The room had great character as did the whole building, so pleased places like this still exist. Will continue to return here going forward.

Stayed in one of their Superior rooms and the ambiance was phenomenal. The only negative was the size of the room. Located very central in Abingdon. Value for money was great and the breakfast was absolutely delicious.

The hotel is near the town centre in a lovely old quaint building. The decor is a little worn but the facilities are clean and very well equipped and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Bed and bath were both very nice

The hotel is near the town centre in a lovely old quaint building. The decor is a little worn but the facilities are clean and very well equipped and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Bed and bath were both very nice

The room was great ,breakfast good and the staff great. Only issue was the paint on bathroomceiling was coming away due to leak or damp needed attention.enjoyed stay lots of resturants ,cafes and bars in area all in walking distance .river walks very close.

The hotel gave me a room with a gorgeous roll top bath as I had requested, so I was very grateful to enjoy a luxurious soak. I also was very happy with the breakfast; you can order anything off their menu, however it was inconvenient that breakfast wasn't served until 8am because I had a to be at a seminar in the centre of Oxford by 9am and I ended up arriving there late. I also could not find the car park so had to pay for the long stay.

Had a excellent stay at the C&T last week.. Ewan was the manager running shift, very helpful, Well informed.. very good at his job.. Food is really good 👍 Would go back anytime..

Beautiful building with tremendous character . Staff very pleasant and helpful . Car parking can be problematic because of the way people thoughtlessly park . It would be useful if registration numbers are taken during booking in to avoid being blocked in . Some parts of the building would benefit from a lick of paint and carpets are tired . Breakfast outstanding x

The dinner in the restaurant was outstanding, so I had high hopes for the breakfast which was a bit of a let down. The hotel itself is comfortable but could do with a lick of paint, the bedroom smelt a little damp but it was cute. I'd visit again if I was in the area still.

Lovely staff but starting to get run down. They boast of the £1.8m renovation but that was done in 2013, but it’s now showing signs of having nothing done since. The carpets are tatty and walls marked. The restaurant food is solid and waitstaff attentive. Overall a solid 4 out of 5

We arrived to an r n b night that was really loud and it was unclear how to even enter the hotel as some many drunk people were blocking the space. It would be nice to receive an email from the hotel before, it was just on the website (checked this on arrival).We could not park our car as result, and I have now received a parking fine as we had to stay stationary whilst we worked out how to get our keys etc … my partner was in the car the whole time. Hotel itself lovely . The night ended at midnight but then scaffolding started to be put up at 8.00 am. Again poor management and communication. I have now received a parking fine for parking our car in the actual hotel. We registered our car. Really poor management and communication from this hotel, a massive shame.

Perfect location in Abingdon and just minutes walk to buses to Oxford if that's your interest. Took about 25-30 minutes to get into downtown Oxford on the 2 or 3 buses...very easy. The inn had a recent renovation and while it is clearly a very old property it was very charming, clean, and nicely decorated. Food was good and free breakfast had good offerings. We were there during the World Cup and they opened a separate bar/event space to fit both locals and guests in to watch the games which was very convenient and fun! Esti seems to work around the clock - checking in guests, waitressing, etc. - and always with a smile on her face and warm greeting. They are lucky to have her! Word of warning: Don't wear heels...the outdoor area is all very old, uneven cobblestone. This adds to the charm but flats/sneakers are a must. Two minute walk to the bridge over the Thames was wonderful and unexpected. We had a lovely walk all along the river before dinner one night. There is Tourist Info office just a block from the hotel and the woman who helped us navigate the bus system was really helpful. Would definitely stay at The Crown & Thistle again...must be very cozy there in wintertime. Lastly, no elevators and heavy fire doors on each floor for those who have mobility issues. New showers are very high off the floor so we took caution getting in and out of the shower. Beautiful footed bathtub but we didn't have time to use it.
