It is too bad that they charge such a high price for an incomplete experience. The pool bar was under construction, which made getting drinks inconvenient and required one to walk around construction messes and blocked off passages, as well as be subject to the noise of it all.

I recently spent four nights at the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island and had a wonderful experience. The resort was clean, comfortable, and offered everything I needed for a relaxing stay. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and I enjoyed the beautiful grounds and beach access. The only minor drawback was that there was some construction going on next to the adult swimming pool, while it was pretty annoying, it didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment of my trip. I’d definitely return and recommend this resort to others.

We enjoyed the pool and 3:30 PM Bingo! We walked on the beach, and participated in the turtle talk and feeding at 10:30 AM Our family took the free resort shuttle to the Coligny shopping plaza for lunch and shopping. Our room was lovely and clean! I would highly recommend the resort!

This is a great property in a great location, was nice and quiet when we stayed. The second pool area was under construction outside of that everything was great! There’s also an awesome little coffee shop right inside the hotel.

Would have rated 5 stars but the pool bar construction took away some of the ambiance. Understand things need to be maintained/upgraded but it did make for a less than relaxing pool experience.

The resort was beautiful with lots of activities. Construction still going on but not a problem. Parking was the only issue. Holiday week so not enough parking; however, the resort staff was great and managed to find parking for everyone. Great resort staff!

overall the place was nice. the review for cleanliness was all about the smell!!. the issue is that when we checked in on the 5th floor the room reeked of dog urine. I was assured that although pet friendly, only rooms on the 1st floor allowed pets. well, whoever stayed before us had a pet that stank up the room. The staff moved me down the hall and the room was much better. However, there was still a faint smell of animal in the new room. A thorough cleaning is much needed to address the odors in the rooms. the restaurants were fine and the amenities were good.

Loved the Sonesta Beach Resort! Very clean, comfortable beds, cleaning service everyday of our stay, two pools, big lobby, bar and on site store for baked goods, snacks, drinks and more. The location to the ocean was just a short walk, 5 minutes or less. You can get lunch or a cocktails at the poolside bar or have them wait on you. Lots of chairs available at the pool and towels. You can!t go wrong with staying at Sonesta.

Things that we liked- On the beach property. Beautiful landscape. Humble and helpful staff. Nice dining options. Things that we didn't like - Outdated rooms. Rooms and hallway don't meet the quality of a 4 star hotel. Carpet is old. Room doesn't smell fresh and nice.

Resort was not in good shape and the service was very poor. Pools were dirty and were not being cleaned. Our shower knob did not work, the bathroom door did not lock, there were huge dead bugs in the stairs for our entire stay, the gym equipments were filthy. Will not be back here.

I felt like there was a good bit to be desired here. I’m pictures of a standard room it shows palm trees- in our room all we could see was the gigantic AIR CONDITIONING ON THE ROOF. were asked if we wanted to upgrade for another 200$. Another issue was our room was blistering hot. It said 72 on the thermostat but it was warmer than that. Any time we weren’t walking around even if we changed it would automatically go to 72 when it was motion sensored. So during the night it got so warm all we slept with was a sheet. We asked maintenance to come and they said it was fixed and 30 minutes later - same thing still happening. The resort had on their handout that live music would be at the pool multiple days but there was no live music. There was music from speakers. Food in the hotel was very pricey and very average at best. Drinks by the pool were good but pricey. Furniture in the atrium lobby seemed old and faded. So what are the pros ? The natural area around the hotel is pretty and the walk to the beech was short. The pool is nice and there are beach loungers on it. You can get a towel by the pool (which counts from resort fee). It is definitely a family resort with lots of kids. Overall, we wouldn’t pay what we paid to stay here again. We found the service to be hit and miss and the dishonesty of our view being the entire roof to be frustrating. The resort fees were pricey for the little amenities which they offered (a walmart water and towel).

Beds were great. No carpet on floors so you hear every drop on floor and it’s loud. Lots of kids. Loud in common lobby area. Nice pool. Food was good. Workers were top notch. Just very LOUD!

Nice and updated. Location is great, right on the beach. Pools are very nice. Wish the resort restaurants had more options. Also wish we had chosen a room with a better view as our balcony had a view of the HVAC system.

I enjoyed my stay at the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island. My check-in experience was not the best as I was told that they did not have my bed type available on check-in due to inventory issues. I explained to the front desk staff member that I was very disappointed to hear that and was there anything they could do to try and accommodate my bed choice. The front desk staff member worked with his manager and the manager was able to upgrade me to a Jr. Suite, partial ocean view, and waive the resort fee due to my inconvenience, and get me a room with a king bed. The room turned out to be great and I was very happy with the outcome. The rest of the property was well maintained and the staff were very friendly. There are a lot of kids / families at the resort while we were there, so if that is not what you are looking for, then beware. There is an adult pool, but it converts to a family pool from 6PM to 10PM every night. Property has a walking path right to the beach and provides beach chairs and other services, some for a fee, but it is quite nice that you can walk from your room to the beach and not have to get in a car. Only ate the the hotel a couple of times and the food was good. There are 4 different menus, so definitely a variety. Nice rum bar in the lobby as well. All in all we had an enjoyable stay and experience and would consider staying at this property again in the future.

Room was updated. However a microwave would have been a plus. The tv kept going in and out….bad service. Other than that we had a very good time. Enjoyed the adult pool and hot tub. The breakfast from Seacrest was excellent.

The beach was lovely. The pool was crowded and they didn’t have enough umbrellas for shade. Would’ve loved to spend more time at the pool. Room was nice with a big fridge and were recently updated in December.

The resort has undergone some recent renovations and has been nicely updated. The rooms are clean and well appointed. The staff is friendly and helpful and the amenities are top-notch. We will be staying here again in the future.

The Sonesta Hotel in the Shipyard Plantation on Hilton Head Island was crowded and made worse by construction/revitalization areas forcing a large number of guests into an even smaller area. The room was good and clean but nothing fantastic. The staff was very pleasant and made a genuine effort to make my stay a good one. Unfortunately, the construction was an inconvenience and had I known, I would not have stayed at the Sonesta Hotel.

Unfortunately, the construction was an inconvenience and had I known, I would not have stayed at the Sonesta Hotel.

Overall the property is pretty well maintained. The rooms were decent. We had some minor issues, but nothing I even mentioned until checkout… Our safe wasn’t working, and the mini fridge was not secured to the cubby and kept sliding out. Additionally, there was paint chipping on the bathroom door, and the door lock pleading to the outside was broken and replaced, but instead of removing the lock that was broken they just added a second lock leaving the broken lock still in place. Every staff member we encountered was super nice, polite and helpful. The hotel lobby is very nice and modern, the pool is very nice, along with the beach. Overall the shared areas of the hotel were very nice and well maintained, and the rooms were adequate, but nothing overly impressive if that is what you are looking for. We were on the first floor, which was so convenient, I personally would give up a view for the convenience of the first floor. The weather was horrible while we were there, so the pool bar was closed and activities were often canceled or moved indoors. One thing to note, the hotel is far off the road.. we rented bikes which we would do again, but it was probably 1.5 miles just to get out of shipyard to the main road, Our kids are older so it wasn’t an issue, but if you have young kids I could see it being a problem. The location was excellent. Overall, a good value and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again!

The concierge Jeff is outstanding. The front desk agents were professional and very polite. Great representation. The hardware on many of the rooms especially outside doors need to be updated. The room doors are nice but heavy and sometimes do not close without intentional slamming.

I like the property eco friendly style, it is family oriented, it is safe and quite. I didnt like the new pool for adults, it is small and it doesnt look clean. Rooms are clean. I didnt like how one of the front desk staff treated me. My last name doesnt make me a delinquent, I deserve to be treated with respect like other customers. Sonesta needs to train their staff to learn how to treat everybody equal regardless of last names, skin color, background etc.

We reserved a suite and had issues all throughout the stay. In the room the remotes, safe and phone were all broken and took multiple attempts to get help, and then backup for each item so we spent a lot of unnecessary time waiting on service. Housekeeping forgot to clean the room multiple times and a barking dog woke us up from the room next door every morning at 6. Hotel management was unprofessional and did little to address the issue. I will say the valet guys were awesome and personable - and the evening housekeeping person on our floor was great, she inherited day shift issues and was always so nice!

This resort is beautiful! The view the location to the beach and to town couldn’t be better! The only downside is the staff. There is a very strange vibe from this resort that the staff is not really wanting to be there and the guests annoy them. Not just from one location but several example the restaurant the coffee shop the beach bar the house keeping. We are incredibly friendly people and not very hard to impress honestly especially on vacation however the staff could not act more annoyed that you’re there if they tried. The woman who works in the coffee shop I’m assuming doesn’t drink coffee whatever you order she will give you something completely different with a very annoyed demeanor while making straight eye contact. All of the onsite restaurants shuts down around mid morning and they don’t serve and close until early afternoon for lunch. Not the worst thing but on vacation it’s nice to have late breakfast options. The front desk double charged me and if I hadn’t asked for a copy of the bill at check out and then when back to the front desk to ask I wouldn’t have known until I got home. The manager was argumentative and not very eager to fix it quickly he said he would do it when he could and call me (which he did and refunded a couple fees. That was nice) unfortunately he wasn’t eager to help until I voiced I was upset. Also housekeeping knocks on the door early in the morning to clean on a multiple night stay in a resort hotel (Monday and Tuesday). Not a weekend.

The staff was very pleasant and so helpful. Patrick Simpson at the front desk was outstanding. Patrick took time out to assist us with our reservations. He did not hesitate to help resolve our conflicts. It was a pleasure dealing with Patrick. Our stay at the resort was very relaxing and enjoyable. Everyone was so polite. We highly recommend this resort.

The great majority of the trip was lovely. The room was a good size, the pool area was very clean. Access to the beach, and the beach itself, was amazing. Downside: The construction in the pool area that was supposed to be completed by mid- June was not, so the noise was a bit distracting. My biggest issue was checkout, There was an additional $103 charged to my room. The front desk clerk informed me it was breakfast from the pool bar. I said we didn't order anything from the pool bar. She did not budge. She informed me the charge was made. I said let me ask my daughter if they made the room charge. The clerk (Jelin) said I could ask her but she already charged my credit card. No apology was offered when they discovered the wrong room number was charged. Instead, I was dismissed by another front desk clerk (Douglas), who waved me away and said he would charge the correct room. I had to ask him to give me a receipt for the refund for the overcharge. The two of them then appeared annoyed when I asked them for the updated receipt I am sure people try to cheat all the time, causing them to become jaded. Unfortunately I am not one of those people.

Liked general character of staff, kind and friendly. However, I felt it was generally fairly green. Your concierge Jeff was superlative, however, there was no one manning that post for the abundance of my stay. I had some recommendations, but there should have been some lists of preferred restaurants, how to get around, bike/car rentals, galleries, etc, not just commercial guidebooks which are paid advertising. I’d rate the food options mediocre, and substandard presentation. I could go into depth but suffice it to say “institutional.” Activities were definitely geared to family not singles guests, Kathy was charming and engaging. A good ambassador as was Charlie and Helene. I was surprised and disappointed in your shops- lacking essentials or exciting personal or gift items. Not robust in the least. I got locked out of my room because the inside lock bar accidentally threw itself. Gabriel was friendly, and helpful as was the security person. My room was clean, comfortable and adequately furnished. The first room was overlooking the roof which because the property wasn’t full, I was not happy being assigned such an awful view. I suggest you put some sort of planting - real or fake to ameliorate the ugliness of that side of building. All in all it was pleasant, safe and clean.

For the money it wasn’t anything better than other brands we have stayed in. They even charge 3.50 for coffee we had a good time but it was quite costly.. ocean front room it not ocean front it’s ocean view hotel sent way back the grounds are beautiful but the pictures make it look so much bigger than it really is

Property was very heavily under construction. Went out to dinner and came back to have a drink at the outside bar and relax. It was closed by 8:00PM on a Saturday. Just not really much to do. Was hoping to stay on property and not leave.

The aesthetics were good but the food was shockingly not good. Wings were not cooked all the way, ordered a ruben it was cold, i figured i couldnt go wrong with a smash burger, same thing it was cold. Expectation of it being a resort was set too high. The bed and pillows were terrible.

The property is beautiful. The staff was very professional and accommodating. The food in the restaurants in the hotel was very expensive. Appetizer, hamburger with fries and sweet tea for 2 people was close to $90. If you are a person who want to have a relaxing vacation, this is your place.

Really enjoyed my stay at the Sonesta in Hilton Head! The hotel felt updated and modern, the adult pool was beautiful, and it was steps from the beach. The bed was also sooo comfortable! Staff was helpful and friendly. Food was good. Location was also great. I rented a bicycle and was able to ride to Coligny Plaza and Shelter Cove Marina easily. Would love to come back. My only feedback: communicate that the key cards stop working at the back gate at a certain time. No one seemed to know this, and I got locked out twice. Thankfully the lovely folks at security let me in :)

Changes have been made since our last visit and while it is still a resort level hotel it seemed like a 2 star on this trip. Our door wouldn’t shut properly, the coffee make didn’t work, the bathroom floor was not clean, we had a security issue (which was addressed by mgmt) and the elevator door made a bad bruise on my arm because it did not detect me to stop closing. This might be minor but was not relaxing with these issues to deal with. Oh, and everything has increased in price so much. We probably will not go back.
