Viking Motel

I didn't actually stay, because I received an email from the hotel saying parking was not guaranteed. No options offered. I did not want to have to search for parking at night in a strange area with no clue of how far I'd be walking. Makes sense, right? I bought booking protection. When I tried to cancel my reservation, I inadvertently cancelled my protection. I am 70, I can walk pretty far, but should I have to?

I’d stay there again. Not enough parking space available in lot & had to park a couple blocks away one night which wasn’t ideal. Never ran into a lack of parking space issue before

Very walkable location. Limited parking on site but free. Quiet and clean. Good price for the location. Semi renovated room. Everything else was still in good condition.

Great truck/trailer parking

Property, rooms, and service were as expected given the cost. Area has walkable restaurants, bars, and a great coffee roaster around the corner. Easily accessible public transportation right out front. Parking was easy. Would definitely stay again if I was looking for a less expensive, but still clean and sade, stay for a night or two.

We didn’t have high expectations. But for an old cheap motel we loved it. We appreciated that there was a microwave, fridge, and hair dryer. The parking was simple. The whole place was quiet. We’d stay again.

One of the best hotels for meeting our expectations of responsiveness of staff, safety, cleanliness, light levels, big frig and parking. I recommend but not fancy just nice.

We flew in to PDX to visit friends in Portland and Vancouver. The motel was near the airport and close to Interstate 5. The room was basic, quite clean and included a comfortable chair. Parking was convenient and free. It is a short walk down to a Fred Meyer store (which includes a Starbucks) and there were a few bars and restaurants within a few blocks, a few of which we had the opportunity to try out. Nothing fancy, but the Viking Motel is an outstanding value in a convenient location. We will definitely stay here next time we visit Portland.

Our room was modest but very clean and well-kept up for an older building. Not very noisy. Limited access to staff but they were friendly. Parking available but not guaranteed. The area felt a bit seedy and you have to ring a buzzer to get into the locked lobby area. Overall pleased and will stay here again.

It is an older property, but that I know of not part of some huge chain. Other than it being slightly dated, it was a very clean, quiet, comfortable room and bed. Staff was great in explaining how things work.

We stayed here based on price but for 30 bucks more we could have had a much nicer hotel with more amenities. The property looked nicer in the photos than it actually was. Furniture and fixtures looked old and some of it broken. The room had a musty smell and was next to a busy street. There are some good eateries nearby and we walked to Peninsula Park which had a nice playground and rose garden but noticed many homes had bars on the windows. Wouldn't stay here again.

Room smelled of cigarette smoke. It is an old motel so may just be stuck in the walls and ceiling. Was hoping to take a bath but there was no drain plug.

Cleanest motel I’ve ever been at! It was spotless, and they even included disposable bath mats, a great addition for young kids!

Staff was attentive (family owned). Rooms were clean and seemingly recently renovated! Not a lot of bells-and-whistles but if you’re just looking for a nice place to sleep, it’s a great option

As others have mentioned, the property is older. However, it is extremely clean and the staff is super-friendly. This is my second visit and I would gladly stay again!

Staff was friendly, check in/out was painless. Nothing fancy, but room was clean and tidy, and the bed was comfortable. Was an added perk to have an actual coffee pot in the room rather than a keurig type coffee maker!

Great family motel, full kitchen and super comfy beds. Late check out is 11:30 am so keep that in mind! But we enjoyed our stay and will go again!

At my age, staying in a vintage motel was fun for the nostalgia. I appreciate that this property has been updated enough to be comfortable without breaking the vibe. I was comfortable, but I do have reservations about staying here again. Most notable is the location. It isn't close to any sights or scenes that PDX offers. If you don't have a car, this is not the place for you. If you do have a car and don't mind driving, the location isn't bad- close to a couple different highway ramps that can send you to the points of the compass. This appears to be in a neighborhood that is beginning to experience gentrification of a sort.

The place is next to the mono rail and a main road. My wife had trouble to sleep the first night. So the next morning, we wanted to cancel the remaining days and find another place that my wife could get a good rest. Nevertheless, the manager showed no consideration and refused to give any refund, although he had a plenty of time to rent out the room again.

This place is awesome! The check-in process was quick and easy; the motel manager was super friendly but concise. The room was cute and clean. The bathtub was extra wide, and easily seats two adult humans. The bed was pretty comfortable, quite spacious. Maybe the best part about this place is the neighborhood. There's a New Seasons market about a block away, really decent coffee shop Futura right around the block, Satchel dispensary also a block away, it's basically a pretty fun part of North Portland. We live locally, my girlfriend and I were just doing a little staycation to get a break from the kids, etc. This place was perfect for a little respite from the madness of real life. We'll probably stay here again at some point, because why not? If I had any constructive criticism for this place, it would be sort out the temperature on the mini fridge because we definitely froze some stuff that we didn't want to. And I think if you're going to advertise a shower/tub combo, it would be cool if you made sure to have stoppers for the tubs in case people wanted to actually enjoy a bath. But, overall, the stay was great and this is me trying to be nitpicky for the sake of the most honest review I can make.

It’s located in a quiet neighborhood with the light rail train running in front of the hotel and there is a grocery store one block away. I was there on a warm day and the room’s AC worked great. If you are comfortable with motel options, this one’s a solid choice, I would return.

Motel is older,but reports refurbished in last few years. Beds are comfortable enough. But AC in Rm 202 is right above one of the beds and blew on my partner all night!

The property appears to be poorly managed. Despite following the manager’s instructions and placing the “Maid Service Required” sign, the service provided was minimal—only trash removal and towel replacement. Typically, a full room cleaning and bed-making are expected. Additionally, the air conditioning was not functioning properly. It produced a loud noise throughout the night, making it difficult to sleep. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend this property.

What a wonderful little hotel, great service, nice clean room. Pulled in an hour before check in time and while I was doing a little banking on my phone the owner came out to my car and told me I could come in and check in right away! That is awesome customer service.

This place was good. We did have a problem with the heater not working. It wouldn’t go into heat mode. It would only stay in cool mode, which is normally fine, but not when it’s cold outside. Nobody is at the front desk after 10. While they said we could ring them, it was very late and felt uncomfortable doing so.

We had a nice stay. There were few homeless around, but not bad compared to the city center. A good place if you have a car with need for free parking. There is a good breakfast Cafe near (Nite Hawk).

Let's be serious here, we are reviewing an independently run motel and not the Ritz. Viking Motel is a fine stay if you are on business travel or need a short overnight stay. It is not a vacation property. The staff are great. The room adequate and very very clean. The location can be dicey in parts but this is Portland - Keep it Weird. Local food options amazing. A few upgrades would be nice like modern air conditioners and showers - not tub shower version. All in all I'd stay again.

Portland's light rail, Max, is just outside the door so easy to get to and from the airport or to downtown. Quiet space
