The staff was wonderful and the breakfast was excellent. We would stay again and highly recommend to anyone. Matera is a unique place and this is a one of a kind, top tier property.

5-star experience. We really enjoyed our stay here from the room, the staff, the breakfast, and everything else. This was the best place we stayed at in our 12-night Southern Italy trip. The Duplex Room was really nice, the spa was very unique and special. The staff went out of their way to make sure they provide the best service. They also made great dinner recommendations and arranged for easy parking pick-up and drop-off.

Bravo to Bora who was more than helpful. Your restaurant picks were excellent as well! The property was immaculate, can’t imagine there is a nicer place to stay. Breakfast had lots of choices. The spa tub was great after a long very hot day.

The hotel room was inside a cave. Completely renovated, clean and very memorable! The Thymus is conveniently located. Walking distance to all of the sites and restaurants. The Sassi is a vey interesting and unique place. The hotel staff helped us with arrangements and reservations for a tour and restaurants.

This place is centrally located in the Sasssi. Staying in the cave was magical. Exceptional cleanliness! Amazing breakfast - made cappuccinos to order for us. Owners were so accommodating and set up parking for us and a shuttle. She also made dinner reservations for us! This was the best part of our trip to Italy! Stay here - you will not regret it!

Excellent little hotel with good location. We appreciated shuttle service provided by nearby private parking garage (recommended by the hotel also). Our cave was perfect for sleeping, no outside noise at all. The bed was a bit too hard for us, though. Several restaurants in very short walking distance.

Unique Experience in Matera! A real adventure—sleeping in a beautiful cave room was unforgettable! The breakfast was fantastic, and the people were so kind and friendly. The atmosphere was peaceful, and the design of the room kept the history alive. Plenty of great restaurants around, all within walking distance. We would love to come back again!

The hotel itself was great, location terrific, and the type of hotel room being in a cave mostly was remarkable. Matera itself is an interesting town with much history, not just Rome, Byzantium and Arab slavers but of the surprising nature of its topography and how the residents made it work. All this was great to see and Thymus itself did very well in showcasing it. What was annoying was the fact that only 3 days before we were due to arrive, Thymus sent me a message saying that no cars were possible in the city, and that I was left with either trying my best somewhere in town or outside, or utilize their covered parking option at 25 euros per day. No option really, but that was not the issue for me. The city itself makes cars impossible. I understand that having seen it. What annoys me is the fact that the hotel never mentioned this on the booking site. Had they stated that parking was impossible but they had a work around, I would likely have been happy with this. Or alternatively I would have dismissed this hotel and maybe even the town and traveled somewhere else. However I was not given the chance to make this choice. It was concealed. There are plenty of hotels in the city, both old town and new town. Plenty of parking options in the new town. None in the old town. Armed with this information from the hotel I may have decided to go somewhere else. Long rant I know, but this leaves a really bad taste in the mouth. Hence the rating.

Great location when visiting Matera for three nights. The hotel consist of various rooms that are spread around the area, but all close to the reception. Staff were service minded and breakfast was great. Overall a great experience to stay in a room inside a cave. Btw the parking service and combined shuttle was a good setup. We can highly recommend Thymus Residence.

This hotel made our trip to Matera amazing. Our room was beautiful, authentic and so well done. The breakfast was great and the staff was extremely helpful. The location was perfect. I strongly recommend staying here to compliment your trip to Matera.

The hotel room was inside a cave. Completely renovated, clean and very memorable! The Thymus is conveniently located. Walking distance to all of the sites and restaurants. The Sassi is a vey interesting and unique place. The hotel staff helped us with arrangements and reservations for a tour and restaurants.

Amazing experience. The location was easy to get to with the internal bus shuttle from the car park outside the ZTL zone. The cave experience was amazing. Fabulous buffet breakfast, spacious room and bathroom, v helpful , knowledgeable and friendly staff

Unique Experience in Matera! A real adventure—sleeping in a beautiful cave room was unforgettable! The breakfast was fantastic, and the people were so kind and friendly. The atmosphere was peaceful, and the design of the room kept the history alive. Plenty of great restaurants around, all within walking distance. We would love to come back again!

We loved our spa cave room at Thymus. It had a pool and a Turkish steam bath. The room accommodated four easily and was very clean and well appointed. The staff was wonderful and the breakfast was excellent. We would stay again and highly recommend to anyone. Matera is a unique place and this is a one of a kind, top tier property.

5-star experience. We really enjoyed our stay here from the room, the staff, the breakfast, and everything else. This was the best place we stayed at in our 12-night Southern Italy trip. The Duplex Room was really nice, the spa was very unique and special. The staff went out of their way to make sure they provide the best service. They also made great dinner recommendations and arranged for easy parking pick-up and drop-off.

This place is centrally located in the Sasssi. Staying in the cave was magical. Exceptional cleanliness! Amazing breakfast - made cappuccinos to order for us. Owners were so accommodating and set up parking for us and a shuttle. She also made dinner reservations for us! This was the best part of our trip to Italy! Stay here - you will not regret it!

A lovely one night stopover in a wonderful B&B in the very interesting city of Matera. Good location at the bottom end of the town. Travelled in by car, so there was obviously the extra charge of parking off-site and subsequent transfer to and from the property - Euro 20 +10+10 = 40 for the overnight stop. Transfers were fine tho. Staff were very welcoming both at reception and check-out the following morning. Quirky room for sure. But well appointed and very comfortable. Quiet. Nice touch of a free small red wine and local(?) walnuts to snack. Breakfast was very good and plentiful with lots of the usual continental-style options, tho more cereal choices of a healthy nature would have been nice. Another nice touch of a gift of local bread on check-out.

Amazing cave room in fabulous location. Lovely, charming and helpful staff, happy to provide tips on food, tours and walks - and a good choice of breakfast. There is an assortment of goodies left in the room for purchase (wine etc), which is very welcoming but a little confusing if you don’t initially realise they aren’t complimentary. And amongst the bonanza it would have been a nice touch and very helpful to have a bottle or two of COMPLIMENTARY water (it may have been there and we may have missed it amongst the treats). The only other slight oddity of the hotel is how reception closes between 12.30pm and 3pm, so if they are kind enough to look after your small bags after check out, be sure to know you need to pick up before they close or after 3pm. There doesn’t seem to be a luggage room so not sure they would even allow bigger bags, like suitcases, so worth checking ahead. We loved the hotel, its position and loved our cave night and slept very well. They also so kindly gifted us a freshly baked loaf of bread when we left. Perfect spot for a perfect couple of days in Matera, in an unforgettable room. Thank you
