I had a wonderful stay here. The grounds are absolutely beautiful—spacious, peaceful, and surrounded by nature with amazing views in every direction. The pool area feels private and secluded, perfect for relaxing in the sun. My room was very cute and homey, comfortable in a way that made it feel more like a retreat than just a hotel stay. On top of that, the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, always making me feel taken care of. Overall, it’s the perfect spot if you’re looking for a quiet escape with charm and character. Highly recommend!

We absolutely loved our stay! The views were stunning, the setting was peaceful and private, and having easy parking made everything in town so convenient. Flot og hyggelig stort værelse i flotte omgivelser. Pool var i april ikke brugbar og udeområde generelt lidt slidte og ikke klargjort til sæsson midt i april, så heldigt at vejret ikke indbød til badning !

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Holstein. It's a little tricky to get to, just keep going down the hill through the big green gates. There is lots of room for parking inside the gates. It's very old but very well maintained. The surrounding property must be lovely in spring and summer. The Royal Suite is very nice. There are very good restaurants nearby. Use the nearby bus service to get to the palaces. Driving to them is not helpful because the roads are closed to personal cars. The staff at Casa Holstein was excellent!

We needed a place for our car because parking can be hard around here. It was great. Easy to walk to old town Sintra from here. Our room was so spacious. Also, several nice restaurants were nearby. The breakfast was delicious. Our room was so quiet and lovely.

The property is beautiful! Our suite was cozy & had everything we needed. The location is excellent with easy parking inside the gated property. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options. We highly recommend in every way. Super convenient location as well ❤️

this hotel does not match the interior content from the photo. It is very old inside, with a moldy smell. I arrived on Saturday: a woman met me, and then left the hotel and on Sunday there was no one at the reception either.

We were let in by the gardener. We NEVER saw anyone at the Front Desk. It was crazy! Our room was clean so kudos to Housekeeping! Would not recommend this hotel.

A quaint and charming place to stay. Great parking. Easy to walk to the historic district and easy access to train/bus station. Property needs some overall general upkeep. The shower leaked flooding the bathroom floor as the caulking was missing. The sealing strip was moldy and needs replacing. Everything else was very clean. Breakfast was ok. Pastries and breads delicious but vegetables old and dry. Awesome to have a carafe of coffee and hot milk to enjoy a nice cuppa or 2 in the morning.

Overall a good location, spacious room and a property with lots of potential. Staff was efficient, though front desk was not consistently staffed. Continental breakfast was nice & well organized but not spectacular. Our shower had a broken door and the room could have used a good cleaning, as the floors were gritty. Be aware that if you have a room on the ground level, the building is not well insulated so you will hear every footstep should a guest be in the second floor room above you. A very good location and excellent choice for independent travellers.

Such a lovely one night stay here. The property and room was so charming. We arrived on a rainy day and our room had the windows open so our bed felt very slightly moist which was the only downfall. As a vegan I didn’t have too many options for breakfast but I am used to that. Overall I would absolutely recommend coming here! It can be hard to find at night by car. But the staff is so helpful and kind.

Quarto encantador,espaçoso,confortável , tudo perfeito. Café da manhã excelente. A única coisa que gostaria de pontuar é o acesso ao hotel , tinha visto um comentário aqui que me ajudou muito. O GPS te manda para a rua , mas qdo vc chega, acha que não pode seguir, mas siga adiante , que é uma rua sem saída e lá está a portão do hotel

Great stay, great breakfast. However, breakfast not served until 9am - that’s too late for tourists planning to take in a full day of Sintra’s many historic sites. Plus, no coffee available in the room, just tea, so early risers like me have to leave the premises to seek out a cafe, or wait…. The room we stayed in (#7) felt very damp and humid, and running the A/C didn’t seem to help much. Finally, room #7 needs a new small fridge - current one gurgles and hums very loudly and pts locally non-stop. Overall though, a beautiful hotel and room as well as surrounding gardens, and attentive staff.

Stately and stunning property, tucked away near Sintra Old Town. We had some trouble finding it by car, but the extra effort was definitely worth it. Staff was beyond accommodating and friendly.

While we got notice in advance that the "bell at the gate" was not working and you would need to call to get someone to open the gate, it tool multiple calls to get anyone to answer the phone. When we asked about the time for breakfast we were told 9 am, and that was too late for us due to tour plans, but actually the area for breakfast opened earlier and we could have availed ourselves of the option if we had been told the correct time. The bathroom was super cold and also had no fan for ventilation causing condensation on the floors and tile walls making floors slippery and grout of tile subject to mold. Definitely needs updating. Location as good but the reception info on how to walk into Sintra Center was lacking. Aside from the location this would rank as a forgettable stay.

We loved this property! The manager, Hassan, went the extra mile and gave us an upgraded room. Anything that we needed during our stay, was taking care by Hassan, a true host. The property is very peaceful and surrounded by beautiful vegetation. A nice peacock kept us company. The breakfast was delicious and the food was fresh. Location was great, walking distance from the city center. We enjoyed our two night stay on the property! We hope to return soon.

Overall a good location, spacious room and a property with lots of potential. Staff was efficient, though front desk was not consistently staffed. Continental breakfast was nice & well organized but not spectacular. Our shower had a broken door and the room could have used a good cleaning, as the floors were gritty. Be aware that if you have a room on the ground level, the building is not well insulated so you will hear every footstep should a guest be in the second floor room above you. A very good location and excellent choice for independent travellers.

A super hotel situated in an absolutely beautiful spot in Sintra. It was an easy walk into Sintra old town and the staff were so helpful and knowledgeable about the area, Rita even booked us an evening meal at a local restaurant. The hotel was stunning and full of beautiful architecture.

Nuno was excellent helping us find our way into the parking lot due to an accident at one of the gates. It was raining and he came out to show us in and got extremely wet. He is certainly an asset to the company, nothing was too much trouble for him, He also helped us with a parking ticket we picked up in town. He is certainly a wonderful person and I hope Casa Holstein recognizes that.

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Holstein. It's a little tricky to get to, just keep going down the hill through the big green gates. There is lots of room for parking inside the gates. It's very old but very well maintained. The surrounding property must be lovely in spring and summer. The Royal Suite is very nice. There are very good restaurants nearby. Use the nearby bus service to get to the palaces. Driving to them is not helpful because the roads are closed to personal cars. The staff at Casa Holstein was excellent!

It was an amazing experience. It is a shame that it is further to Quinta da Regaleira than what Expedia advertises but it is still walking distance, just mot 10 min and rather 30 minutes. The staff was extremely nice and the breakfast delicious

Superb and very quaint "castle" hotel/inn. A little tough to find but that's part of the attraction. I stayed in a lovely cottage room No. 9. Beautiful gardens and grounds. Very close to the Municipal Hall. And an excellent restaurant called COMO. Recommended.

Quinta muito bonita e agradável, com excelente localização, bom atendimento. Um grande problema que tivemos, foi para encontrar o local por falta te previa orientação e ausência completa de sinalização do local! Não existe placas com o nome, você passa pelo portão nas estreitas vias e não vê nenhuma indicação, o Waze e Google maps avisam que você chegou ao seu destino depois que vc já passou pela entrada e está praticamente entalado entre dois muros e não tem como retornar, e foi assim que encontramos outro casal que também estavam a procura da mesma Quinta. Para retornar ao ponto, a volta é quilometrica. Nos dois portões existem apenas umas plaquinhas metálicas de menos de 10 centímetros com o nome da Casa Hostein. E no final das contas a localização é bem central exatamente atrás da Câmara Municipal. Falta de orientação prévia e sinalização no local!

We thought we were only renting a room at at a hotel. Turns out we rented a room at a royal-family's estate. This is a first class place to stay. The breakfast buffet is the best we have ever had anywhere in Portugal. The location is perfect, just a couple of blocks from the heart of Sintre's historic center.

The Holstein is a charming old hotel set in a beautiful magical garden with several picturesque walkways and hide aways. Thet serve a delicious breakfast with fresh hot baked goods. I highly recommend this hotel.

The place was amazing, the views, the privacy and the parking options were outstanding. The breakfast was good, with good choices. From the registration to check out, we enjoyed every bit. Would visit again. It's a hidden gem.

A quaint and charming place to stay. Great parking. Easy to walk to the historic district and easy access to train/bus station. Property needs some overall general upkeep. The shower leaked flooding the bathroom floor as the caulking was missing. The sealing strip was moldy and needs replacing. Everything else was very clean. Breakfast was ok. Pastries and breads delicious but vegetables old and dry. Awesome to have a carafe of coffee and hot milk to enjoy a nice cuppa or 2 in the morning.

Great stay, great breakfast. However, breakfast not served until 9am - that’s too late for tourists planning to take in a full day of Sintra’s many historic sites. Plus, no coffee available in the room, just tea, so early risers like me have to leave the premises to seek out a cafe, or wait…. The room we stayed in (#7) felt very damp and humid, and running the A/C didn’t seem to help much. Finally, room #7 needs a new small fridge - current one gurgles and hums very loudly and pts locally non-stop. Overall though, a beautiful hotel and room as well as surrounding gardens, and attentive staff.

Such a lovely one night stay here. The property and room was so charming. We arrived on a rainy day and our room had the windows open so our bed felt very slightly moist which was the only downfall. As a vegan I didn’t have too many options for breakfast but I am used to that. Overall I would absolutely recommend coming here! It can be hard to find at night by car. But the staff is so helpful and kind.

Beautiful setting, beautiful building, great free parking lot. The room and bed were comfortable and inviting, but I guess it may be a bit cold inside in the Winter due to the old windows. Breakfast was good but could be improved: I missed a breakfast menu and the fruit salad did not look very attractive... otherwise, it was a good experience.

I love this place - it has character, a great location, and feels like a little piece of old school glamour, albeit rough round the edges in places. This was a repeat visit after six years away. The breakfast was lovely, the property is really special. We stayed in a room away from the main house and had our own little outdoor area - slightly tired, but then the character of the place makes up for this, it feels so much more charming than soulless chain hotels.

Aside from arriving early and a bit of confusion with the front enterance our stay was beautiful, unique and wonderful. We loved being in Sintra when the tourists had not arrived yet for the day; it made us appreciate its beauty and the special aspect of staying in town all the better. The hotel met our expectations and added an extra special quaint aspect to our trip to Portugal.

Casa Holstein Quinta de São Sebastião is a beautiful survivor of the golden age of Sintra mansions. The grounds are stunning and the location is fantastic. The morning breakfast was a continental type of high quality ingredients, however after a few day it did get tedious. The hotel is in need of a major refreshment, most of the pretty antiques in our room were sagging and stained. We really enjoyed the ensuite bath and extra room that we had access too. The staff was friendly and English was not a problem, however they will sometimes disappear. I think like many small hotels the staff is stretched thin. Our initial plan was to spend the week in Sintra, but when the internet failed after our first night we decided to move to Lisbon and we left on Thursday. Although the internet failure was not necessarily the hotels fault we found it to be a deal breaker as everything in the Sintra area requires planning and timed tickets. The staff was very understanding and let us check out three days early with a refund. I would stay again, its a beautiful survivor of the grand mansions of Sintra with a great location and romantic grounds and views of the wonderful Sintra area.
