The staff was very kind. Very convenient location a few meters from Waverley. Sadly to reach the room we had to use the service elevator which smelled awful.

Awesome location and historic building. Room was excellent. Great restaurant choice in the hotel but we didn't try. Only gripe is the that a car cannot stop outside the hotel but it is workable.

Great option for one bed+loft units, including much appreciated laundry machines in room. Beds very comfortable. Also beautifully renovated building; we seemed to arrive mid-renovation so that there were many complications with room keys, directed to wrong floor for breakfast, directed to gym that was under construction and nonexistent. When it is fully functional it will be great. Note, no AC and rooms did get a little warm.

Fantastic position next to trams and loads of fab restaurants. Drinks on level 6 of dept store next door were a highlight. Breakfast very lush and amazing - definitely add it to your booking. Having the best washer/dryer in the room was brilliant after weeks of travelling. Comfy bed and lovely amenities. Will be back!!!

We very much enjoyed our stay at The Edinburgh Grand. Great location. Comfortable, well designed room. Terrific staff. Good gym. We had a snafu with the in-room washer/dryer that unfortunately didn’t drain properly. Staff was valiant in their efforts to help fix things. Had great cocktails and meal at Hawksmoor. Did not love our experience in the Lady Libertine basement space - very dark, so-so cocktails, and VERY LOUD. We had loved our dinner at Bon Vivant and had higher expectations for this sister restaurant. We have already shared with friends/family our recommendation for this hotel. Would absolutely stay here again.

Overall, this is a very nice modern-style hotel. It's great for walks, being right next to the park, with excellent restaurants and bars very close by. On arrival, the staff were very friendly and helpful, even though we did have a bit of a parking and unloading situation. They assisted with our bags and helped us get to the room—10/10 service. The parking is located nearby but can be a bit of a hassle, especially if you have children. They offer parking validation for a discount, but during my visit, the validation ticket didn't work, so I had to pay full price for a day. Leaving the hotel was a bit of a different experience, as the lady at the front desk upon departure was not very helpful in getting assistance to load our luggage into our rental car. This wouldn't normally be a problem, but there really isn't any temporary parking or loading zone outside the front entrance, so you're unsure if you'll get a ticket for just checking out. The breakfast they offer is very nice. Hawksmoor, connected to the hotel, is an amazing restaurant, and everything was delicious. The bar connected to the hotel is a great addition. When we first went there, it was a really good experience, and the drinks were very tasty. I would only ask that they align their closing times with the last call, as we arrived 30 minutes before the stated closing time, but the staff had already closed down the bar and completed last call. Overall, a very nice hotel.

The first floor rooms don’t work. You are required to get the lift from reception to floor 2, then walk to the back of the hotel and get the lift down to floor 1 or use the stairs - the issue is the lift is the service lift for the kitchens and cleaning and so smell, is dirty and constantly being used by staff. It’s pretty unacceptable given the cost of the hotel.

The Directors suite is stunning, super clean with fabulous toiletries and equipment. Downsides - noisy DJ in landing outside bedroom wall on a Saturday, staff keep the security corridor door unsecured which was a bit unnerving. Mind the auto doors on the way in.

Upon arriving to The Cheval, we were greeted by the hotel staff and notified that they were upgrading us to a Deluxe Suite! We were so delighted and the hotel was amazingly clean, comfortable and our suite was beautiful! We had everything including a washer/dryer in suite. I could go on and on about how wonderful our stay was in Edinburgh at the Cheval Grand. We will definitely miss the hospitality but will be back in the future!! 10/10 stars!!!

Loved the property and our room. However, our toilet seemed to be having problems upon arrival and got progressively worse til it was completely backed up during our stay. We informed the front desk in the afternoon. They told us that they would fix it. When we came back hours later, our bathroom had dirt of some sort all over and our toilet was not fixed. We told the front desk and they told us that it could not be fixed til the next day. So we had no toilet to use for almost 24 hrs. We talked to the front desk about it several times and got no where. They did not offer any sort of discount or apology for the extreme inconvenience. Other than that, we loved the property.

Located in old heritage building. A lot of charm but not a lot of comfort. The toilet in our room didn’t flush and the shower was weirdly cordoned off by only a shower curtain from the rest of the bathroom. I would most definitely not stay here again. There are so many better, modern options equally or better located that cost less.

Have stayed here before and loved it. Was extremely disappointed this time. Had to squeeze up either side of the bed to get into it. The springs were gone on one side of the bed meaning it was hard not to roll out. There was mould in the bottom of the shower. The windows rattled in the wind in their frames. We tried to attend the Register bar at about 9.45pm to be told it was closed. When we pointed out the website said 11pm, the bar manager (Italian Manager) said he didn’t care, he finished at 10.30 and was told to be closed by then. We asked to speak to a manager, who was supposed to call us about the stay but that hasn’t happened.

Formerly the headquarters building for the Bank of Scotland. Beautiful furnishings, comfortable bed, and a well stocked kitchen with washer/dryer combo. I could live here. Easy to walk from the Waverly Train Station, and accessible to all the significant sights, shopping & restaurants. Highly recommend.

I loved how centrally located it is, but this comes with a caveat. the tram outside sounds like an earthquake every time it passes by, so if you are a light sleeper id suggest asking for a room not facing the street.

We absolutely loved our stay at Cheval The Edinburgh Grand! I can’t recommend it enough. It was a beautiful space with lovely and high quality furnishings. It felt modern and updated while still being classy, elegant, and fitting with the older architecture in the city. We had a great view of St. Andrew Square. The living and dining area was extremely spacious. Having a washer and dryer in the room was so convenient, and the small jug of milk in the fridge was an added touch, great with shortbread cookies! Fully stocked with kitchen utensils and tableware, detergent, soap, even a cookbook. We enjoyed breakfast and drinks at the upstairs lounge and dinner in the restaurant downstairs. The staff was kind, helpful, and very accommodating. The location was great if you don’t want to be right in the center of loud old town, but still walkable to all the sights. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Edinburgh!

Absolutely loved this hotel! We stayed in a one bedroom with loft room. It had a full kitchen with a huge dining table, washer/dryer which was great and a huge bathroom. Service was excellent. Close to shopping and old town. Will definitely stay here again.

The staff was amazing - so friendly and helpful. I didn’t like how our room was set up. Our bed and a bathtub were upstairs, while the bathroom and living area were downstairs. The hair dryer was upstairs, but I had to sit on the couch to use it due to outlet limitations. The room we stayed in the first night was better.

Great hotel in a great location. Lovely large apartment looking onto square. Particularly friendly and helpful reception staff at check in and all interactions witnessed with other customers very positive and chirpy. This really sets the tone for a place - well done

The property is great, however big thumb down for safety and communication: 1) When we checked in at the reception desk we got a key code to enter a room that was reserved for us. However, upon entering the room we realized that someone else is living there (suitcases lying open on the floor, personal items all over the place). We went back to the reception desk and they gave us a key code for a different room. Then the same thing happened: someone else was apparently living there as there were personal belongings and luggage lying in the room. 2) When we came back to the reception desk once again and asked what's happening, the administrator said that they were overbooked, which made no sense: I would've undestood if they said they don't have rooms available (although this would've been disappointing). However, the gave us the keys to someone else's rooms twice. 3) On our third attempt we finally checked into a free room, however this left us feeling unsafe, wondering if someone else will enter our room in the same manner as we did during check-in. 4) Later that day our code stopped working, so instead of reentering it into the system, hotel personnel just shown the emergency code to me that apparently can open other rooms too (I didn't check that obviously) 5) The entrance doors to the hotel are automatic and open outwards and it's very easy to be hit by them as you enter the hotel. I have seen an old woman being hit by the doors and having blood on her face because of that

I stayed at this hotel for a business trip and was thoroughly impressed! The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, exceptionally clean, and located in a fantastic area. The staff were amazing, friendly, attentive and communicated so well throughout my stay. One night was not enough, so I will definitely be coming back for a leisure trip next time. Highly recommend!

The room was really comfortable and the staff was amazingly nice. Patrick was particularly kind and helpful during our entire stay, but in general every single person we engaged with was extremely nice and kind we our 2 year old boy. The location is amazing, and I will totally go back!

I booked this hotel well in advance and provided my contact details — yet no one informed me of ongoing renovation work. Upon arrival, we were guided through an inconvenient and frankly unacceptable route to our room: a standard elevator to the second floor, a walk down a hallway, then a service elevator back down to the first floor. I was traveling with my 67-year-old father. Despite being told guests shouldn’t use the service elevator, it was our only option — shared constantly with contractors and staff, often smelling unpleasant. At a five-star hotel, guest experience should be the priority. Here, we waited through multiple elevator rounds as staff used them freely, even with trolleys. On our last day, one elevator was broken — yet staff still moved carts, further limiting access for guests. I raised concerns immediately — no follow-up. Only after posting a public review did the hotel respond, offering a room move (on our final night) and later a small refund. Too little, too late. This stay fell far below five-star standards. Communication, courtesy, and common sense were all lacking. The overall message was clear: guest comfort was secondary to logistics. A disappointing experience I wouldn’t expect from any reputable hotel — let alone one with this rating.

From the moment you walk in you are amazed by how beautiful the property is. The staff is exceptional, so friendly and helpful. They left a birthday card and bottle of Prosecco in my room for my milestone birthday. The location is one of the best places to be in Edinburgh. Close to many restaurants, shopping and the old town. Would definitely stay there next time in Edinburgh.

Great location in the heart of such a walkable city. Right down the block from Waverly Station and in front of a tram stop. Friendly staff who go out of their way to help you. Beautiful and spacious room. Would definitely come back again.

Absolutely wonderful stay at the Edinburgh Grand! Right on St Andrew's square, in front of a tram stop to easily get to the airport. Great dining options within the building and around the square. Close to major attractions but far enough away to avoid crowds. Service was fantastic!

This is an excellent hotel. It's a great location: close to Princes Street and the Royal Mile. If you plan on doing tours, it's roughly a 5 minute walk to the city hop on-hop off stops, 5 minutes to the bus station for those taking multi-day tours. The tram stop for the airport is literally outside the door. We also took the train to Glasgow for the day. Waverly is 5 minutes from the hotel. It's worth it to stay at The Grand.

I loved how centrally located it is, but this comes with a caveat. the tram outside sounds like an earthquake every time it passes by, so if you are a light sleeper id suggest asking for a room not facing the street.

Awesome location and historic building. Room was excellent. Great restaurant choice in the hotel but we didn't try. Only gripe is the that a car cannot stop outside the hotel but it is workable.

Super friendly and helpful staff. Room large and well appointed. Steps from the central train station and literally across the street is the tr to the airport. Plenty of shops and restaurant options nearby. Walkable to historical sites. Couldn’t have asked for a better spot

Location is excellent, a very short walk from the train station and there is a tram stop a few metres away which goes to the airport. Hotel is surrounded by restaurants suitable for every taste and every pocket plus a supermarket about 100m away.

The entire staff couldn't haven been more helpful. Hawksmore restaurant was fabulous as well. We loved out Scottish tea and breakfasts every morning. Highly recommended.

Fantastic position next to trams and loads of fab restaurants. Drinks on level 6 of dept store next door were a highlight. Breakfast very lush and amazing - definitely add it to your booking. Having the best washer/dryer in the room was brilliant after weeks of travelling. Comfy bed and lovely amenities. Will be back!!!

We very much enjoyed our stay at The Edinburgh Grand. Great location. Comfortable, well designed room. Terrific staff. Good gym. We had a snafu with the in-room washer/dryer that unfortunately didn’t drain properly. Staff was valiant in their efforts to help fix things. Had great cocktails and meal at Hawksmoor. Did not love our experience in the Lady Libertine basement space - very dark, so-so cocktails, and VERY LOUD. We had loved our dinner at Bon Vivant and had higher expectations for this sister restaurant. We have already shared with friends/family our recommendation for this hotel. Would absolutely stay here again.

Great! Staff on reception all fantastic! Super helpful , room was great and cant wait yo stay again it was a brilliant hotel. Only one teenie negative Bar closed at 10pm and lacked any vibe (bar manager aas scruffy) Hotel staff all amazing and made the stay super easy, we’ll be rebooking next time in Edinburgh.

Overall, this is a very nice modern-style hotel. It's great for walks, being right next to the park, with excellent restaurants and bars very close by. On arrival, the staff were very friendly and helpful, even though we did have a bit of a parking and unloading situation. They assisted with our bags and helped us get to the room—10/10 service. The parking is located nearby but can be a bit of a hassle, especially if you have children. They offer parking validation for a discount, but during my visit, the validation ticket didn't work, so I had to pay full price for a day. Leaving the hotel was a bit of a different experience, as the lady at the front desk upon departure was not very helpful in getting assistance to load our luggage into our rental car. This wouldn't normally be a problem, but there really isn't any temporary parking or loading zone outside the front entrance, so you're unsure if you'll get a ticket for just checking out. The breakfast they offer is very nice. Hawksmoor, connected to the hotel, is an amazing restaurant, and everything was delicious. The bar connected to the hotel is a great addition. When we first went there, it was a really good experience, and the drinks were very tasty. I would only ask that they align their closing times with the last call, as we arrived 30 minutes before the stated closing time, but the staff had already closed down the bar and completed last call. Overall, a very nice hotel.

Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Both restaurants were very good, we ate at them all three nights. Plenty of restaurants near by but we were tired and kept forgetting to make reservations outside. Super close to the train station, airport and old town.

Have stayed here before and loved it. Was extremely disappointed this time. Had to squeeze up either side of the bed to get into it. The springs were gone on one side of the bed meaning it was hard not to roll out. There was mould in the bottom of the shower. The windows rattled in the wind in their frames. We tried to attend the Register bar at about 9.45pm to be told it was closed. When we pointed out the website said 11pm, the bar manager (Italian Manager) said he didn’t care, he finished at 10.30 and was told to be closed by then. We asked to speak to a manager, who was supposed to call us about the stay but that hasn’t happened.

Ridiculous overpricing from Marriott since they took over. These rooms were half the price 2-3 years ago. Staff were great but comparable value is poor. It is sad that Marriott are involved :( The bathrooms stink when you arrive and if not used for a couple of hours.

The rooms were spacious and I loved that I had a kitchen to boot. Staff were amazing, especially the doorman who gave me a lot of tips and helpful advice (and just overall a good chat). Restaurant on the 4th floor was fantastic, all the porridge in the world!! Great location too. Close to everything.
