This hotel is not as represented in its marketing. The accommodation is in a former care home to which next to no upgrades have been made. There is no restaurant on site despite the information saying that there is. There is a burger bar near the beach which is open until circa 7 pm under common ownership with the hotel- whilst the people there were good and the meal perfectly satisfactory, it was not what was advertised or expected.

Amazing hotel and restaurant! Food is amazing and staff are very friendly. Extremely dog friendly and welcomed my dog everywhere. Plenty walking to do around the area and the beach is outstanding.

This redstone mansion house sits in magnificent grounds a short walk to one of the best beaches I have ever seen. The interior decor needs refurbished but the room was very comfortable with good en suite , and lovely garden view. The downside, the hotels Grill house and lounge is only available for functions.There is no option for dinner in the hotel. On returning from Arbroath a ten mile drive at 8.50 pm looking forward to a refreshment the small bar within the hotel was closed. The following evening at 8.30 the bar was open with a few guests within. I went to my room for a few minutes and returned to the bar at 8.35pm and it had closed. There is a small cafe a few minutes walk away but it has a very limited menu. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the breakfast was very good but a hotel should have a bar for residents.

Booked for my mother's 60th to spoil her with luxury which you would get in the main house.... We were not! If booking you need to make sure you are staying in the main house. If not you are in the annexe which appears to be an old care home and no better than a travelodge... No restraunt or bar open on first night.... Disappointing as wasn't informed Imrie's was shut before visit or at checkout....luckily Beach bar was close by but served raw burgers but staff were super friendly. Hotel bar open on 2nd night but didn't know this until we had already bought our own provisions. We expected to stay here and not have to leave as it was advertised to have bar/ restraunt on site. We have left feeling disappointed as in our opinion it was falsely advertised you need to be informed if your not in the main house and you won't have access to food and drink on site. Breakfast and most staff were lovely

I felt the set up was great here, especially if you are travelling with a dog. The rooms were very spacious and clean, there is a place to eat linked with the Guest House and a lovely beach and cafe within a few hundred yards

The room we had was in an annexe and was very basic. I would describe it more like a holiday chalet room than a hotel and it reeked of damp. What was particularly disappointing was that although the Hotel.com site stated that there was a restaurant at the hotel, there was only a cafe 200 yds away, which closed at 7.30pm.

We really loved our time at Lunan House. It’s steeped in history and the staff will happily share what they know. The grounds/ gardens are beautiful. The beach with caves and castle ruins is a few minutes walk away. It was a lovely place to recharge in the middle of our trip. Breakfast was great but dinner options were more limited.

My father in law is disabled and the staff went above and beyond for him. They were very considerate about his needs which was just so thoughtful and kind. It was a family trip and they placed us all right next to each other. It was the perfect time away and the room was huge, very clean and just perfect. Thank you so much.

Vel, plassen og uteområdene er flotte, men hotellet er nok litt dårlig holdt. Vi bodde wing avdelingen og det var vel egentlig mer campinghytte preg. Veldig lytt, muggent og dårlig ventilasjon. Vil ikke anbefale å bo i denne delen.

We were in the annexe. Albeit clean and refurbished we felt like we were staying in a Care Home (which it previously was). The bathroom was a sorry state. A tiny hand basin. The shower was pitiful. Breakfast included. First morning - This was good but our second morning was very poor. No plates. No glasses for fruit juice. No coffee. Hot breakfast i had to ask for items to be replenished. Only one member of staff dealing with everything. Very very disappointing. I'm afraid we won't be back.

Nice area close to the beach. The breakfast provided was awesome. Towels, sheets, and pillows were clean. Beds were comfortable. The only complaint I had was that there was a smell in the room possibly from cleaners, we had to leave the window open. The fan in the bathroom didn't work. We were in the wing section not the main hotel.

Dusty from dirt drive close to the hotel. Dingy and shabby - down at heel. Reception manned by youngsters - curtain in bedroom pulled off track and not fixed, bathroom ceiling aged taped up, handle with loose fixing, grime around shower tray, shower head had hole so hot water went everywhere. Beds very comfortable. Breakfast was in lovely room in old part of the building. Very basic offerings, machine coffee not very good. But the cooked breakfast gorgeous. And the waitress very helpful and smiling.

The house and ground are lovely and very close to the beach. Food was very good for the price, and overall very happy with my stay. The room looked a little tired, and the wet room floor wasn't clean. Drain was also backing up and flooding the floor whilst showering. Overall location excellent and good value for money.

This place is a hidden gem! I have been staying at budget accommodations, trying to keep it around $100 CAD per night, including breakfast. With that in mind, this place is an incredible value. The building has character and is a bit quirky. The room was very spacious, and the bathroom was renovated. The grounds are beautiful, and it is very close to Lunan Beach. The Scottish breakfast was outstanding and very filling. The people who work here are incredibly friendly and helpful. I can’t believe this place isn’t packed!

Second time I’ve stayed here, however this time I was in the newer part to the right of reception. It was not as comfortable as the older part of the hotel. Bed was very soft and uncomfortable. No menu at breakfast hut there is hot food which you have to decide on the spot. Dinner was good. Good selection of drinks.

The staff made the trip. The house & grounds were great but the staff really stood out for being so friendly & welcoming. We stayed in an annex which wasn’t as nice as the main house but overlooked the gardens & was comfortable.

Lunan Bay Beach is close by and stunning. The property is peaceful and the rooms are nice. Bathroom was new with quality fittings. Dog friendly. The grounds are beautiful. This is a little hidden gem and I’ll definitely be staying again ……. Often!!

On first arriving it looked like an amazing lodge hotel. Unfortunately once inside, the food although very good was like a fast food place. No healthy options, everything with chips . My room was small and the most uncomfortable bed I have ever not slept in .

Hotel is in a fabulous setting with lovely gardens and easy access to wonderful beach. Staff were friendly and welcoming but pretty much downhill after that. The room was shabby and dark and facilities meagre. Breakfast (included) was uninspiring. Leathery bacon, undercooked egg, toast like cardboard and no butter - they’d run out! Cereal selection was poor; no yoghurt; no fruit; limited choice of jam & no honey or marmalade. However dining room was lovely. Food in Imrie’s (?) bar/restaurant was unappetising. The staff made the trip. The house & grounds were great but the staff really stood out for being so friendly & welcoming. We stayed in an annex which wasn’t as nice as the main house but overlooked the gardens & was comfortable.

Management at breakfast left a lot to be desired. When we arrived, no one was there to greet us. The only staff member was engaged in a heated conversation with another guest. There was no milk for the cereal. No spoons either! Coffee pot had run out. Family sized kettle was supplying a dining room of about 20 people. Bread was in short supply. Basically under staffed. I didn't get to check-in as the hotel was not forthcoming about my out-of-hours check-in, which they agreed to prior to booking a room. By 10pm on the day, with zero communication, I had to make alternative arrangements. Now they are refusing to issue a refund for a room I didn't get to use. All emails, messages and phone calls went unanswered for the two days leading up to my booking, and two days later I have still not heard anything. Avoid.

Wow! Where to start..? What a stunning place to stay! I wish we had stayed longer! The welcome was lovely our room was amazing! Absolutely beautiful. Breakfast was so good, typically Scottish & a real treat! We went to the sea at Lunan Bay which is literally a 5min drive past the property - this area was gorgeous. Huge sand dunes but a beautiful stretch of beach, peaceful and calm. We will definitely be back! Highly recommended. Thank you for looking after us so well.

This redstone mansion house sits in magnificent grounds a short walk to one of the best beaches I have ever seen. The interior decor needs refurbished but the room was very comfortable with good en suite , and lovely garden view. The downside, the hotels Grill house and lounge is only available for functions.There is no option for dinner in the hotel. On returning from Arbroath a ten mile drive at 8.50 pm looking forward to a refreshment the small bar within the hotel was closed. The following evening at 8.30 the bar was open with a few guests within. I went to my room for a few minutes and returned to the bar at 8.35pm and it had closed. There is a small cafe a few minutes walk away but it has a very limited menu. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the breakfast was very good but a hotel should have a bar for residents.

Lunan Bay Beach is close by and stunning. The property is peaceful and the rooms are nice. Bathroom was new with quality fittings. Dog friendly. The grounds are beautiful. This is a little hidden gem and I’ll definitely be staying again ……. Often!!

We stayed in a beautiful room with a view of the stunning front gardens. The staff were friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The beach along the North Sea is a short distance away, with views of Red Castle. Additionally, the full Scottish breakfast included with our room was delicious.

We really loved our time at Lunan House. It’s steeped in history and the staff will happily share what they know. The grounds/ gardens are beautiful. The beach with caves and castle ruins is a few minutes walk away. It was a lovely place to recharge in the middle of our trip. Breakfast was great but dinner options were more limited.

This hotel is not as represented in its marketing. The accommodation is in a former care home to which next to no upgrades have been made. There is no restaurant on site despite the information saying that there is. There is a burger bar near the beach which is open until circa 7 pm under common ownership with the hotel- whilst the people there were good and the meal perfectly satisfactory, it was not what was advertised or expected.

Booked for my mother's 60th to spoil her with luxury which you would get in the main house.... We were not! If booking you need to make sure you are staying in the main house. If not you are in the annexe which appears to be an old care home and no better than a travelodge... No restraunt or bar open on first night.... Disappointing as wasn't informed Imrie's was shut before visit or at checkout....luckily Beach bar was close by but served raw burgers but staff were super friendly. Hotel bar open on 2nd night but didn't know this until we had already bought our own provisions. We expected to stay here and not have to leave as it was advertised to have bar/ restraunt on site. On first arriving it looked like an amazing lodge hotel. Unfortunately once inside, the food although very good was like a fast food place. No healthy options, everything with chips . My room was small and the most uncomfortable bed I have ever not slept in .

From the website, I had high expectations of Imries and looked forward to trying some nice healthy options, but everything was burgers, fried foods or chips. The locations is lovely and the hotel could be spectacular but it's all a bit bleak, sad and needing some love and attention. The 3 staff I saw for my 3 night stay, worked heroically on reception, Imrie's and at breakfast and are to be commende and what was there, was clean. I would love to stay a week with my dog another time, but as it is, 1 night would be enough.
