Everything was good. Great sea view from my room. Only gripe was the car park charge of £20.00 per night. I mentioned this on check-out, but the receptionist insisted that they are the cheapest in Bournemouth. This is of course untrue - if you are the cheapest for parking, why not advertise it as a benefit, not keep it under wraps until guests arrive and havevpassed throughvthe car park cameras.

All the staff were pleasant and as helpful as hotel policies would allow them to be. We checked in after 6pm and had issues with the bathroom straight away (the stopper in the bath was stuck closed, the cold water pressure was non-existent making showers impossible unles you had asbestos skin, and the toilet did not flush properly). These items were reported immediately, but we had to wait until the following day dor maintenance to come look. Additionally, the in rook facilities lacked a fridge. When we asked for one we were informed there would be a £15 charge to provide the fridge. I was able to get the fridge charge waived at checkout after mentioning the issues with the rooms. Another problem with this hotel, is that their pool is only open from 9:30am to 6pm daily. This is a hotel in a seaside resort town, who would stay at the hotel pool when you have one of the U.K.'s best beaches a 2 minute walk away? We aere hoping to make use of the piol in the evenings after dinner but this was not possible, had we known this in advance, we would NOT have booked this hotel!!!

The room was large and clean with a very large bed.Unfortunately the property is looking tired. The plumbing in the bathroom was very noisy overnight. The hotel had beautiful gardens and a lovely outdoor pool. The inside pool was lovely and warm but there was some maintenance. Sauna and hot tub not working. Our family room was clean and very large but unfortunately the shower didn't work, which was very disappointing.

Most of the property is pretty tired, but the indoor pool and spa were not open - and the spa has been removed which is misleading. The staff at check-in made no effort to compromise or be conciliatory with us (4yo in tow) which made the whole start a real poor experience.

The breakfast was very good. Room could be cleaner - rooms need decorating (not modernising just watermarks on most walls!) bar service was really poor, but apart from that an enjoyable stay

Enjoyed a 6 night stay, But beware first major disappointment is the cost of parking (£70) which isn't mentioned on booking and despite the cameras automatically fining you if you stay longer than 20 mins it's not mentioned in your welcome letter either. Family room was larger than most and all the beds were good, the hotel is a little tired in places but it's spacious and bright, service could've been better there was frequently no-one behind the bar, or available at breakfast. Breakfast was standard, cheap sausages, juice and bread. Opening the pool at 7am or earlier would help the congestion in it at 10am when it finally opens. Treadmill, outside pool and Sauna were all out of use for the duration of the stay. Location was great though, and i'm sure the outside pool will be fab in summer.

Room was nice and clean spacious for the kids to be able to play and fantastic view of the beach, staff were lovely very polite and helpful, the kids loved the indoor pool. Location of the hotel was great.

We stayed for 1 night with our dog. The room was nice, clean & very spacious. Check in was very smooth & the lady on the desk very friendly & helpful. Shame we couldn't stay for longer as the leisure facilities looked good. Great location to the beach & only a short walk into town. Parking is payable on arrival as run by a private company but plenty if spaces.

The room was in need of repair and major updating, the sink and toilet were stained, power points were behind bulky furniture so hard to use, wallpaper and carpet were stained, I am surprised that I was put in there and made to pay full price for it!

The staff attention was outstanding. The hotel is outdated. It needs a refurbishment. The bedroom carpets are mouldy as are the other carpets. The cleaners do a good a very good job, however this does not compensate for the circumstances of the outdated rooms. The public areas are generally well kept.

The whole hotel is shabby. The pool looked as though it had never been cleaned. Very disappointing and nowhere near as nice as the photos suggested.

We were lucky to have a see view, the room itself was very large and clean and a little dated which didn't detract from our 2 day stay. The communal areas were in better condition and the two pools were lovely, we ate once at the hotel and the breakfast was excellent. All staff were very good and Neolia on reception was particularly pleasant, with nothing to much trouble. Would definately stay again.

The room was large, beds comfortable, however there was confetti on the floor obviously from the previous guests. A rip in the wallpaper on the wall. I didn’t complain as 49 years ago I worked in this hotel as a chambermaid, so didn’t want to get anyone into trouble. It’s not changed much since then ☺️, 5 star then, now 3 Could do with a bit of modernisation. Staff were lovely

Hotel has seen better days. Very badly cracked sink, rotten under the taps and quite possibly the worst hotel shower i have ever experienced in my sixty odd years. Long, long walk with steps up and down to room 105. Against that a very large room, a larger than king size bed that was extremely comfortable.

We were very frustrated with our experience staying here. We stayed in a family room but from 10-midnight or a little after, there was ridiculously loud music/bass coming from the room above us. I went to the front desk about it twice. I was initially told it was a party on an upper floor, only to later find that our room was nowhere near that space. There was no urgency in resolving the matter and never any sort of check in with us afterward. My whole family lost sleep and anyone with children knows that it’s hard enough all sharing a room, let alone with added loud music and partying happening nearby. I wouldn’t stay here again.. but I will say that most other aspects were fine.

We stayed in a spacious suite on the 2nd floor with beautiful sea views. Hotel has a great location, just a short walk to Bournemouth beach. Bed was super-comfy, pool area was well-maintained and we were pleasantly surprised with the food (having read mixed reviews). We would definitely return.

The room was very spacious, but gloomy - just one standard lamp and 2 bedside lamps. A short term fix would be a pair of desk lamps (or a desk in the bathroom, which was very well lit!). Also the towel rail was not working - hope they get it fixed before winter comes!

Nice sea view from room. Big television but needs modernization. No safe or fridge in Room. Pressure in bath was very low. It took me a whole hour to run a bath.

This is a lovely old hotel with well maintained lobby, lounges, restaurant, bar, and grounds. Unfortunately, our first suite was very "tired" with a chipped bathtub, chipped walls, peeling wall paper and very uninspiring, austere decor for a British hotel - i.e. one kleenex box and some prints on the walls. Our second suite was better maintained but was missing items like a luggage rack, drinking glasses, full length mirror.... In both suites we had to hunt in the cupboard for a second set of towels and pillows. I understand that they're trying to be more ecologically green but they've gone a bit too far. Service was excellent all around and the restaurant was very good also. It's located on the east cliff with a lovely view. Gardens and pool must be very pretty in the summer.
This is a lovely old hotel with well maintained lobby, lounges, restaurant, bar, and grounds. Unfortunately, our first suite was very "tired" with a chipped bathtub, chipped walls, peeling wall paper and very uninspiring, austere decor for a British hotel - i.e. one kleenex box and some prints on the walls. Our second suite was better maintained but was missing items like a luggage rack, drinking glasses, full length mirror.... In both suites we had to hunt in the cupboard for a second set of towels and pillows. I understand that they're trying to be more ecologically green but they've gone a bit too far. Service was excellent all around and the restaurant was very good also. It's located on the east cliff with a lovely view. Gardens and pool must be very pretty in the summer.

Im going to be honest here; early check-in is not an option. Weve been made to wait 1.5hrs after check-in time, but were given bar vouchers so fair play on staff trying to make do. Shower sink took ages to clear water, room window was opening all the way (I was with 2 small kids). Hotel is old and in need of refurbishment.

We arrived on Monday afternoon and the receptionist was not very helpful or welcoming. We had to ask where the restaurant was located! I am pleased to say all the other receptionists were very friendly and helpful. The car park was on site at £10 per 24 hours. This is your best option as the limited on street parking is extremely expensive. We booked for 48 hours at £20 and we could come and go as we pleased. Our standard room with a sea view was massive with a lovely bay window overlooking the sea front. Furniture was a bit dated but comfortable. I was very pleased with the room. There was a hair dryer; I couldn't find any info regarding this before I went. Food was very nice although the food in the restaurant at night was expensive for the amount that you got. It was fine dining though. Breakfast was buffet and you could have what you wanted. One of the staff was helping anyone who couldn't carry their food back to their table. A lovely touch. It was lovely to use the swimming pools, jacuzzi and sauna but it was only open from 9am until 6pm. There's also a gym although we didn't use it. Towels were provided. Location is great with pleasant walks to town and Boscombe. We would certainly recommend this hotel and would go back again.

Wish i would have booked another Hotel . First of all. Checked in after along day coming fro Us.. Tired and Hungry, went into Restaurant and was asked do you have reservation ( maybe 6 tables with people) I'm like no,i just checked in after a 9 hour flight and a 2 hour bus to Bournemouth.. I get this let us check with the KITCHEN..Its not late and its empty and i just want a salad... finally i get seated After my salad i get to my room to go to call Room Service and the phone doesn't work.I get to bed and its 3:00 in the Am and the Balcony below me decided its time to go outside and DRINK... NEXT MORNING. I go downstairs to ask for a new phone, o we are sorry, the service man is out sick.. no phone, next day i ask again. o we had a extra man on staff he will check. NO man..ON and on and on this goes on. phone is never fixed, replaced.. I have to go downstairs to get room service, have to grab the housekeeping staff in the halls to get stuff. I'm told due to Covid no staff will come to your room to clean unless you call.. STILL no PHONE. the walls are thin, you hear dogs, kids, staff, people fighting. traffic on the road facing the Oceanview and im told by staff the noise outside might be the homeless. Go get coffee in the AM, both machines aren't working, IT"s short staffed again, the staff is very sweet telling you i'm so sorry. I never see the same people working the front counter the whole time, yet it's packed one morning with one person trying to help .Don't Book

I decided to book a hotel with the wife and kids for the last day of the Easter holiday and i thought were better than by the beach. The hotel has a great location, really nice bar, the room was large, the indoor pool was nice and well heated. The attendant at the pool offered us white gowns when leaving the pool to take to the room (nice touch). What i did’t appreciate is being sent an email (clearly a group led email not specific to this hotel) stating i could pay £15 for early check in, but arrived to find it had been refused (unbeknownst to me). We then asked reception whether we could get the room sorted at around 2pm because we wanted to make the most of our stay. They couldn’t give us a time, and eventually the duty manager told us that they were cleaning room by room so it would be around 1 hour for our room to be ready. (there seemed no indication that our room could be prioritised, given we were waiting in reception). In addition we received no information at reception, so had to rush our time in the swimming pool since that closed promptly at 6pm. I then went to book dinner and was told that ‘there was a large group booked in’ therefore we could either have 6pm or 8.30pm. I booked 8.30pm but my kids were very tired so we ended up ordering a pizza at the bar. In the end i ordered a wrap but waited 30-40 minutes by which time i had lost my appetite and went to bed. Prioritise your guests please!

Room was nice and clean spacious for the kids to be able to play and fantastic view of the beach, staff were lovely very polite and helpful, the kids loved the indoor pool. Location of the hotel was great.

We stayed for 1 night with our dog. The room was nice, clean & very spacious. Check in was very smooth & the lady on the desk very friendly & helpful. Shame we couldn't stay for longer as the leisure facilities looked good. Great location to the beach & only a short walk into town. Parking is payable on arrival as run by a private company but plenty if spaces.

This hotel couldn't manage to serve dinner even though we were asked to sit and wait for a table for almost an hour and the restaurant wasn't half full, but they had one hen party that sure took all the attention. We went to bed hungry. this is an old respectable hotel with wooden floors and insulation from the 19th century. we had a family of children on the floor above us who jumped and bounced around for an hour which sounded incredibly good so we hope the hotel next time places these gymnastic children on a floor with reinforced concrete floor and hearing protection. Amazing stay at this lovely hotel. Jack at reception was really friendly and welcoming despite there being long queues. Breakfast needs more staff but those that are there were very nice and did what they could!

We stayed in a spacious suite on the 2nd floor with beautiful sea views. Hotel has a great location, just a short walk to Bournemouth beach. Bed was super-comfy, pool area was well-maintained and we were pleasantly surprised with the food (having read mixed reviews). We would definitely return.

Had a lovely time. Breakfast was very nice, comfortable and friendly staff, Brandon was very helpful. Lovely comfy bed. Ten minute walk to the centre of Bournemouth and was uphill coming back! Beach just accross the road but down a zig zag path.

I stayed at the Carlton with my 9 year old daughter. We had a lovely time. As others have said, parts of it are a bit tired and some of the communal areas (particularly the outside terraces) were a bit grubby. But we found our room very clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. To quote my daughter "the breakfast was awesome". The location was great, right on the beach, and a short walk to Bournemouth pier. I would stay here again.

Suite was dated and in need of redecoration, but with 2 balconies boasted outstanding views. Air con didn't pump out cold air, and even on full fan speed did little to move the air around. Breakfast was delivered to the room and was excellent, other than the fact that this premium hotel no longer serves champagne by the glass! Luckily I added an addendum to the breakfast request that under no circumstances should prosecco be substituted for champagne.

Staff pleasant and helpful. Breakfast nice variety of items, Only thing not nice was the Orange Juice, it was so weak and had no taste. Very watery. Evening meal taken on one night was very nice. Lovely sea view room, very spacious.
Staff pleasant and helpful. Breakfast nice variety of items, Only thing not nice was the Orange Juice, it was so weak and had no taste. Very watery. Evening meal taken on one night was very nice. Lovely sea view room, very spacious.

Had a lovely time. Breakfast was very nice, comfortable and friendly staff, Brandon was very helpful. Lovely comfy bed. Ten minute walk to the centre of Bournemouth and was uphill coming back! Beach just accross the road but down a zig zag path.

This hotel couldn't manage to serve dinner even though we were asked to sit and wait for a table for almost an hour and the restaurant wasn't half full, but they had one hen party that sure took all the attention. We went to bed hungry. this is an old respectable hotel with wooden floors and insulation from the 19th century. we had a family of children on the floor above us who jumped and bounced around for an hour which sounded incredibly good so we hope the hotel next time places these gymnastic children on a floor with reinforced concrete floor and hearing protection. We loved it here and having use of spa was a bonus. Only downside was had to wait 45 minutes for our food in the evening restaurant. Which the children weren't too happy about! The food was amazing when it came though.

Lovely and helpful staff. Dont expect quick service at the bar! Same couple of people waitering in restaurant also mann the bar. Dinner was very good. Suite very spacious and cosy. A little updating needed overall but that is to be expected

The hotel is very comfortable, albeit a little tired. The rooms were fine, very large.. not many facilities in the room but ample..the hotel was very hot inside which was a bit uncomfortable.. staff very friendly but they did make a few mistakes on billing etc, however these were quickly rectified. Gym facilities were nice as were the pools.. food served was of good quality but obviously hotel prices. I’d certainly use this hotel again.. good tea making stuff in the room, but I’d have liked a small fridge.. shower facilities were good although in my room it was a bit difficult to turn the shower full off..

I had 3 nights in a Double Standard Room as a solo traveller. The room was very dusty when i arrived. Clearly hadn’t been cleaned or vacuumed. The bed was clean and very comfortable though. Breakfast and Dinner was good with plenty of choice. The outdoor pool was poor! A floor that was loose and moved when stepped on and a quarter of the pool corroded off as it was very mouldy on the floor. Bad for a 4 Star Hotel. The indoor pool was small but very warm. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made my stay. Thank you Leo and Ben in the Restaurant. The hotel is old and requires upgrading and decorating. I would book again but perhaps a grade up in the room.

Aspects of our bedroom and ensuite were dirty. The basin plug was disgustingly dirty, it had been left by the side of the basin, so it was easy to see, but had not been cleaned in a long while. I declined to have a shower as the bath didn't look particularly clean, although my husband did and he said it was ok. The ensuite was generally dusty. In our bedroom the bedside cabinets had a thick layer of dust around the bases. The linen and towels were clean. We only had 2 tissues in the box, perhaps the hotel is used to clients taking them all? The hotel was busy, lots of children running around, so not a place to go for a quiet retreat. We were charged £20 for a days car parking, but also had to pay £2.95 booking fee, the latter being outrageous. No mention of either when booking. The hotel is also being used by local families, who are members of the spa, so that they can spend the day by the outdoor pool, adding to the numbers of people using the hotel facilities. We didn't sample the food, as we left before breakfast. We found that the hotel was convenient for us as we were attending a function at the Russell Cotes Museum, however, that area of Bournemouth was full of other hotels. So overall, probably a good place for families on holiday, as it is close to the beach, but not for people who would like a quiet time.

Rooms are clean and good sizes, only some have aircon. Pool was lovely bar staff friendly and very helpful made us feel welcome.

The room was excellent with vast views of the sea with a beautiful bay window and very comfortable furniture layout. Staff for generally very helpful. Unfortunately, one has to pay quite handsomely for parking and now even for towels by the pool
