Morven Hotel Colombo

Booked this hotel specifically because it says they have a gym...They DO NOT! They also don't have a spa, you can't access the roof or use the pool due to construction, and the WIFI was so bad you can't use the TV because the signal constantly drops out. The bed was comfortable but that is the only positive about my stay.

No where near a 4 star hotel. There was a bad smell on the floors and even worse in our room that had a smell like ammonia. The room had clearly dirty bedsheets and towels. The tapestry was peeling from the wall and there were clear moisture damage. The bed was also hard as a board. We went to the reception to complain and did get a new room without any issues. But there was no conversation no apologies or anything. The new room was only a little better. It was less smelly and the bed was better but the sheets and towels still har clear spots. We tried to change towels a few times but had to accept that it was just not possible to get clean towels at this “4 star” hotel. Even towels they told us were “completely new”. There is no sound isolation. You can hear every word of people in the hallway and even the bass from the rooftop bar (our room was on the 3rd floor). Also we had a cockroach in the room. All in all not recommended!! Oh and the rooftop bar tried to scam us and asked for 5200 for something that should be around 3500 with the added 10% service charge. My friend just paid on the card machine without checking and they tried to throw out the receipt. But I asked for it so we saw the overcharge. After much discussion they gave us 1000 back. Remember to check your bills if you go to the bar!

Nice hotel. Big room. Well situated . Cute rooftop pool. On the negative side, the hotel staff find you in the street and try to bring you places to spend at their very aggressively friends.

The staff are superb and the neighbourhood is very convenient. Apart from that, however, there is little reason to stay here when there are so many other options in Colombo. There was no corridor lighting on our floor, which made it feel more like a low-cost apartment complex than a hotel. The wifi was spotty, though the technician was very helpful and had it up and running as fast as he could. The breakfast is not very inviting (that's putting it generously), and is almost the same price (US$10) as at the nearby Granbell, which is fantastic and has an excellent view. The pool is tiny but serviceable (with a very friendly lifeguard), though the floor it's on is very run-down. (Strangely, one of the posted rules is No Swimming, though it's probably good that another rule is No Peeing and one more is No Acrobatics.)

Great place convenient and close to the ocean. Transportation and shopping all in walking distance. Hotel does not provide shuttle service to and from airport, as appears in the Expedia. They arrange transport at $37 either way.

Room is clean and cool with aircons. Shame it didnt find my booking at the beginning and i have to contacted expedia midnight to resolve booking

Good hotel in a decent location. A couple of stains on the bedsheets, mentioned to management, hopefully this is resolved in the future

Everything is perfect, good location, staffs very nice, EXCEPT for wifi, no connection in the room and I need it for my work, so I got to change to another place near by.

C’est un hôtel quand on vient, il est grand, il est bien l'entrée, la réception, la pleine lune, tout va bien le Rooftop mais malheureusement la chambre est pas confortable du tout le lit est très dur et la chambre est très vieille les fenêtres ne s’ouvrent pas c’est assez difficile, je conseille pas trop si vous aimez le comfort

Moderate mid star hotel conveniently located. The staff though helpful were not exactly friendly. The buffet breakfast is overpriced with limited number of items for the amount charged. Overall a decent place for a short stay

Whilst in bed,at 11 pm a tour group arrived on my fllor,they were all extremely noisey and showed no consideration to sleeping guests.I had booked a 2 am wake up call but was woken by this group at 11,i opened my door twice...to confront them..at 11.15 and again at 11.50 when i raised my voice to them all..it was unneccessary as management should of requested and quieter transition to their rooms when thay checked in..

The hotel is in need of some care. We paid for a breakfast included package, which the hotel disputed and made us pay, even when we clearly showed the receipt of package. The breakfast was okay, but the food was quite bland.

A very nice property. The management just need to look into minor issues. For example the refrigerator in my room was out of order. The guy knew, so instead of replacing it, he just brought another one and put it in the room. The breakfast is of poor quality. Juice is made not in a juicer but in a mixer by adding sugar syrup and ice. They don’t know how to prepare dosas. Most breads, 3 types all have sesame seeds. Why cannot you have just one with sesame. Those with allergy to sesame cannot have any of those. Billing takes ages, they quote in US$ but then instead of taking payment inUS$ they spend time converting to SLR and charging in Lankan Rupees. They do not have any power points in the rooms for charging devices or the kettle. You have to unplug the bedside lamps to charge your devices and use the kettle. Management needs to provide multiple power point adaptors.
