Casa Mao - Amami Collection

Thanks to the property manager he supplied me with a video to get to the hotel as it is slightly confusing but wasn’t a problem with the video. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning. Open the windows and see Amalfi and the giant mountains.

Casa Mao is a little gem tucked into the rabbit warren of side streets in Amalfi. Gianfranco, the charming owner/manager, met us at the ferry terminal and guided us to the location, pointing out landmarks along the way so we could find our way back by ourselves. Very helpful!! Our room was amazing, a two level suite with loft bedroom and a huge terrace overlooking Amalfi and the ocean. Perfect spot for an aperativo while the church bells rang! Very quiet at night and gorgeous sunrises from the terrace. A wonderful stay, highly recommend it!

Gianfranco was an amazing host, and the views from the property were out of this world. Although there are a lot of stairs you have to take to get to the property. It was stated breakfast was included but it was just a coffee and some cakes. The view from the terrace made up for it.

Love our time here at Casa Mao. Spacious & very clean room in the perfect location in Amalfi. The view from the Terrace is one of the most beautiful views we have ever seen, especially at sunset. Loved the history of the place & the decor/meaning behind it all. Keep in mind, it is A LOT of steps to get to this property. So pack light and be prepared. Totally worth it though!

Gianfranco, the owner/caretaker of the property was highly responsive and accommodating with good local recommendations and personal connections around town to help get us into beach clubs/restaurants that online said were at capacity. He met us at the ferry and walked us to the location, which is a little tricky to find and up many stairs. The view from the roof was very pretty. The room was clean, comfortable and larger than most.

We loved the 144 winding stairs through tunnels leading to this great place. View was fantastic! Host was friendly, kind, and helpful

Wonderful stay! The owner Gianfranco is a very hospitable and pleasant person, he did everything to ensure that we had a pleasant stay. He provided us with a guide and we were able to easily get to our destination. The room that we rented was quite large, clean and with a very interesting design. The view from the terrace is breathtaking! We want to come back here, and of course we will highly recommend this amazing place to everyone!

숙소이정표가 없어서 숙소찾기에 어려움이 있고, 숙소까지의 계단이 많아 수화물서비스(비용발생) 이용을 권함. 그 외 안락함. 경치. 청결, 친절함 모두 만족. 아말피라는 특수성으로 인한 숙소까지 가는 불편함을 제외하면 모든것이 만족.

El lugar en sí es muy bueno. La habitación era amplia, limpia y cómoda, y la atención del host admirable. Es muy dedicado en atender a las personas antes y durante su estancia, proporcionando detalles adicionales como instrucciones para llegar, opciones para comer, para el transporte, etc. que se aprecian mucho. Lo único es que la ubicación es un poco complicada. En tiempo, es muy cercana al duomo; sin embargo, debido a las condiciones de la ciudad, el camino es de muchas, muchas, escaleras, por lo que si llevas cargando tu equipaje (y hasta cuando no llevas cargando nada), resulta muy cansado. No hay mucho que el host pueda hacer respecto a la ubicación, realmente proporciona hasta opciones para contratar un servicio que lleve tu equipaje. De ahí en fuera, todo fue excelente.

Our room at Casa Mao was beautiful and extremely clean! Great views just outside of the building and terrace that we unfortunately didn’t check out. The only con is the amount of stairs to get to the building, but after walking them you deserve the pizza you’ll be eating!

We loved our stay here! Gianfranco made our experience an easy and enjoyable one. He showed great hospitality and was willing to do whatever needed to ensure our stay went smoothly. Room was a good size and views were amazing. Cold AC as well! Would definitely recommend Casa Mao.

Being as objective as possible, I would rate our experience a 3.5 out 5; The owner/manager does his best to service our needs but overall the location of the property and his desire to save on expenses made our short stay less enjoyable. He welcomes his guests at the port but for a reason...There is absolutely no way you would find your room if he was not there to guide you. The ascent to his guesthouse is by far not for the weak of heart. Especially when carrying your bags. It is 150 steps to climb and when you arrive through a myriad of passages you are completely drenched in sweat (especially in hot weather) by the time you get to your room. The rooms are clean and spacious, and the owner tires to make the most to make your stay as enjoyable. However, there was one big problem with his setup...the air conditioning was centrally controlled and those 2 nights we stayed, we could barely feel the cold air in our apartment. I understand the need to control expenses but you could sense his desire to make sure we did not consume unnecessary energy. Open a window, and the energy shuts off to the AC. The recent heat wave in Italy made our nights not too pleasant in Amalfi. The big question is whether we would return and the answer is no. Unfortunately its location and amenities are not recommended for an older couple or traveler. But, if you are a younger traveler with limited budget, it may be considered.

Achamos a logística ruim . Tivemos que pagar40 euros para subida com as malas , tendo em vista os 150 degraus até o acesso à nossa acomodação . Também não havia café da manhã o que encarecei mais a estadia . Não houve um bom bom custo benefício . O ar condicionado é ruim . Não. Os hospedaríamos mais nesta acomodação .

Gianfranco suggests using the porter service but he should be providing this 80 euro for two suitcase service complimentary to his guests. Consider staying in the Amalfi town centro or better value in Maiori with only a 5 euro 10 minute ferry ride to Amalfi. Casa Mao advertises as bed and breakfast but doesnt serve breakfast while surrounding properties do. This property seems more interested in profit instead of quality guest service. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable but poor location and below average service will see fewer guests stay here.

Area is beautiful, building has an incredible and unique history to it and the facilities are in wonderful condition. The manager, Gianfranco provided excellent service and went out of his way to make sure our stay was as comfortable and convenient as possible.

Casa Mao staff and manager was very helpful. He met us at the port to guide to his hotel. Also, very well managed facilities with nice rooftop. You should be aware of 150steps to get to the Casa Mao but its pretty normal for Amalfi hotels. I highly recommend Casa Mao in Amalfi.

This is a home owner residential rental basically. It was located up the hill with lots of twisted alleys. There's no sign for the hotel name. It's very difficult to find. When we arrive at 4pm, the door was closed and nobody in service. We waited 2 hrs in the rain and finally the owner came. The room is OK, but for all the trouble finding and hundred steps up and down, just avoid this listing

Casa Mao was a big disappointment. The hotel is far up the mountain, requiring around 140 steep steps to reach — not clearly mentioned when booking. We had to pay €30 each way for a luggage handler, and on departure, the receptionist sent our bags down early without telling us there’d be an extra €20 charge. In total, we spent €80 extra just for luggage. Service was unwelcoming. No free water (every other hotel we stayed at provided some), and they charge €1.50 per bottle. On check-out day, staff banged on our door at 8:30 a.m. and again at 9:50, rushing us even though check-out is 10 a.m. The power shuts off when you leave the room, including the fridge, and you’re greeted with a long list of rules at check-in, which sets an unpleasant tone. Between the hidden access issues, extra costs, and rude service, Casa Mao was not worth it. Choose a hotel closer to the port instead.

Nous avons été accueillis par Gianfranco dès notre arrivée à la gare routière d'Amalfi. Gianfranco est un homme exceptionnel, il est d'une grande gentillesse et il se montre très serviable. Le chemin d'accès au B&B est assez difficile, beaucoup de marches à monter, mais cela ne nous a pas dérangé, il faut savoir que si vous venez sur la côte Amalfitaine, vous allez de toutes façons devoir gravir beaucoup de marches lors de vos déplacements ! En tout cas l'emplacement du B&B est super, en plein centre d'Amalfi, à deux pas de l'artère commerciale avec les restaurants et à 5 minutes à pied de la plage. Pour ce qui est de la chambre, nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre chambre sur deux étages. La climatisation était un vrai plus. Enfin, le petit-déjeuner, servi sur la terrasse en rooftop qui offre une vue époustouflante sur Amalfi et son clocher. Le petit-déjeuner est assez copieux, attention il ne s'agit pas de produits frais mais ce sont des produits emballés ! En tout cas Gianfranco est très généreux sur les quantités. Bref, nous avons vraiment beaucoup apprécié notre séjour chez Casa Mao.

The owner, Gianfranco, was very accommodating and went the extra mile to make our stay at Casa Mao a wonderful time. The guest house itself was lovely - clean, spacious and very well maintained - and the large roof terrace had the most beautiful views of Amalfi. Casa Mao was hard to find initially, but Gianfranco was very helpful getting us and our luggage up the many steps - it is quite a climb but worth it! We would highly recommend Casa Mao if you need somewhere to stay in Amalfi.

Alojamiento muy bueno y vistas espectaculares. únicamente acceso muy muy complicado son 155 escalones. No recomendable para personas mayores ni para parejas con niños pequeños por el difícil acceso.

Amazing property and history. Giancarlo met us at the ferry terminal and escorted us to the room. Highly recommend. (There are significant steps to climb ..so be in shape ).
