Room was super clean and had air conditioning which was a huge relief during a heat wave. Food downstairs was really yummy and the garden was really nice. Easy walk from the train station too. Would recommend this place!

Visited Ely for the first time. Chose theRoyal Standard due to location in the “city” centre. Pre-visit I emailed a couple of questions re parking. Quick and clear response. Parking is right behind the pub in free to park public parking. The staff explained simple process to avoid parking fines. Able and welcomed to check in early. Room was very clean and comfortable with separate sofa/lounge area. Bed very comfortable and shower big and easily adjusted temperature. Didn’t eat at the pub in the evening but the breakfast was superb. Great produce freshly cooked to perfection. All staff helpful and friendly and the pub is in an excellent location for exploring Ely on foot. Cannot recommend The Royal Standard highly enough. Thanks to the whole team

Great place to stay. Right on high street so walkable to shops, restaurants, the river etc. Friendly staff. Lovely room. Could park in car park behind hotel & staff give guidelines on parking times. Can hear traffic from room but expected as on high street. Would stay again if in area.

Stayed for a week, travelling alone. Location brilliant, lees than 5 minutes walk to Cathedral and riverside. Room well equipped and comfortable, with air conditioning that was very welcome. Some road noise, windows are original, single glazed and offer little sound proofing, but road quiet at night and it didnt trouble me. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were excellent, lots of choice, freshly cooked, hot, well presented and delicious. Bar and restaurant very nice, with patio area for drinks and food. Would recommend this hotel for a stay in Ely.

Nice welcome - useful tips on parking. Extra mile to make sure my partner was OK as she has sight issues. Great location, a popular evening pub, a great location for the riverside, the Cathedral and the main attractions.

On the Main Street so surrounded by shops. Some traffic noise but didn’t disturb us. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food excellent. Generous portions, very hot and tasty. Would recommend.. Glad of the air con in our room as very hot week. A shelf is needed in the bathroom which is spacious but nowhere to put your toiletries.

Nice air conditioned room. But right at the top, with some tricky stairs to navigate. Bringing luggage down was done in stages. No hairdryer in the room. Good breakfast with spicy black pudding. 10am checkout time seems harsh.

We were able to check-in early. The staff were all polite and helpful. The room was great overall, lots of character and very nice ensuite. We ate in the pub in the evening, nice meal and generous portion! Likewise, a great breakfast in the morning! My only 2 minor issues were that although lovely, one of the old windows did not close. It didn't make the room too cold for us, but it does mean that it can be noisy as people come and go from the pub. Be aware if you are a light sleeper!! My other slight niggle was nowhere in the bathroom to put things like toothbrush etc. Sink is large, no room round that for anything. Tiny shelf over loo, which fitted almost nothing!! Maybe a bigger one would be more practical??! Overall however, a lovely stay and don't be put off!

The property was beautifully quaint with low ceilings etc. Our room was very dusty but other than a dirty remote control, acceptable. The stairs were difficult if you have any mobility issues, however the staff carrier bags up which helped enormously. The air conditioning was amazing as it was 32•c! I slept like a log as the bed was so comfortable. The bathroom was lovely and well stocked, just needed some extra cleaning touches. All together a strong 4 out of 5.

Very sad. A lovely old hotel in the centre of Ely. The boiler must have broken down as the shower was freezing cold in the morning. What you can't excuse is to be served a cold roast dinner on a sunday lunch time.

Great staff, very helpful. We were in room 1 which is a clean modern room. You do hear a little traffic noise but not enough that it's an issue. Just watch you don't rest a bare knee on the heated towel rail when you're sat on the toilet!

I was really looking forward to my stay but it was rather disappointing For the price I would have atleast expected the room to be clean On first arrival after reading there was free parking I had to ring them to find out where it was , it’s in a free car park at the back of the building which would have helped to know in advance The room on first appearance was small but appeared ok , but after looking closer the surfaces were all covered in dust , on top of the bedside tables , lamps , top of radiator, the box edges around the room , even the hanging tv cable was thick with it There was also a dirty smudge on a pillow case but luckily that was easily removed and was too tired to think more of it Then on and off throughout the night what sounded like a macerator kept going off . The room is also above the entrance to the pub and rather noisy along a busy central road so I was woken severally times through the night As they are single pane old windows and there are also speed bumps the vans and cars going over making a racket through the night The only plus about this trip was the food , it was nice enough and the ladies that served were lovely , but feel this was an overpriced room with how in clean it was I only stayed one of the 2 nights I booked and found other accommodation for my second night

Excellent staff and room was clean enough Only gripe is the paper thin l lead glazed windows ( I’m guessing it’s a listed building) I could hear people talking and walking on the street 1 floor up Also very noisy road from 5 am until 11pm ! Tractors and bin Lorrie’s at 5:30am annoying as no soundproof windows or walls

Although the property is in the centre of town, it was very quiet and calm. The room was amazing, plenty of space, comfortable bed and no noise heard from the pub or other residents. The menu offered was good with plenty of options as was the breakfast. I would not hesitate to stop there again when I visit the area.

Friendly greeting from the staff, an exceptional room soundproofed so you'd have no idea there was a bar below. Exceptionally presented rooms with handy toiletries and a very decent breakfast. We were very impressed and will book again on our next visit

Great hotel for the night. Lovely big comfy bed. Great en-suite clean and large in size. It was a little warm during the night and took a while to work out the aircon but still have a fab sleep. Breakfast in the morning was lovely with amazing coffee and juice.

Parking a pain, although free ,had to move car by 12:00 to lower car park, then back to upper at 14:00 ,then repeat, a hotel concession (ticket would be good). When going to the bar at 22:15 to order drinks, was told last orders at 22:00!? Blind in room was broken and some dust on some surfaces. Breakfast was good, but a pot of coffee would be better, food in restaurant was expensive. Bathroom was modern and recent and in good order.

The property is well positioned in Ely, once parked everything is within a short walking distance. The staff were very helpful and the accommodation was very comfortable. The food was very nice and overall the whole experience certainly lived up to our expectations. We will certainly use this property again on our next visit to the area.

Great central location. Easy walk to the cathedral and sites, shopping, eating. Super helpful staff. Nice recently remodeled bathroom.

Visited Ely for the first time. Chose theRoyal Standard due to location in the “city” centre. Pre-visit I emailed a couple of questions re parking. Quick and clear response. Parking is right behind the pub in free to park public parking. The staff explained simple process to avoid parking fines. Able and welcomed to check in early. Room was very clean and comfortable with separate sofa/lounge area. Bed very comfortable and shower big and easily adjusted temperature. Didn’t eat at the pub in the evening but the breakfast was superb. Great produce freshly cooked to perfection. All staff helpful and friendly and the pub is in an excellent location for exploring Ely on foot. Cannot recommend The Royal Standard highly enough. Thanks to the whole team

Friendly greeting from the staff, an exceptional room soundproofed so you'd have no idea there was a bar below. Exceptionally presented rooms with handy toiletries and a very decent breakfast. We were very impressed and will book again on our next visit

Nice welcome - useful tips on parking. Extra mile to make sure my partner was OK as she has sight issues. Great location, a popular evening pub, a great location for the riverside, the Cathedral and the main attractions.

Great place to stay. Right on high street so walkable to shops, restaurants, the river etc. Friendly staff. Lovely room. Could park in car park behind hotel & staff give guidelines on parking times. Can hear traffic from room but expected as on high street. Would stay again if in area.

A good place to stay in Ely. Very central. The room was clean and the shower was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent all freshly cooked and a wide choice. It was only 5mins wak to the Cathedral and 5mins to the river.

The location was brilliant for looking around Ely which is beautiful. The room was lovely decorated and the bathroom was amazing especially the shower. We was in room 3. The cooked breakfast choice was good and was nice. We parked in the free public car park behind the pub which is brilliant if you are able to get a space.

Room was super clean and had air conditioning which was a huge relief during a heat wave. Food downstairs was really yummy and the garden was really nice. Easy walk from the train station too. Would recommend this place!

Very sad. A lovely old hotel in the centre of Ely. The boiler must have broken down as the shower was freezing cold in the morning. What you can't excuse is to be served a cold roast dinner on a sunday lunch time.

The 2 day trip was a birthday present for my partner. She was delighted with the room, the modern shower facilities, the friendly, helpful staff, the excellent food (both evening meal and breakfast) and the location (just 5 minutes walk from the magnificent cathedral).

On the Main Street so surrounded by shops. Some traffic noise but didn’t disturb us. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food excellent. Generous portions, very hot and tasty. Would recommend.. Glad of the air con in our room as very hot week. A shelf is needed in the bathroom which is spacious but nowhere to put your toiletries.

Nice room with all modern facilities. Faced out the high street but there is virtually no traffic after 9pm or so, so not a problem. Excellent a/c in the room which was much appreciated because of the hot weather during our stay. Separate entry to the rooms so did not have to go thru bar. We didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment, only remark is that it only opens from 8am for breakfast which won’t suit anyone looking to get away early Recommended

The Royal Standard has modern newly refurbished rooms over the pub. These are surprisingly quiet and comfortable. We had a friendly welcome and slept very well. Good bathroom and comfortable bed and a really tasty breakfast to follow. We would definitely stay here again, particularly given the very convenient car park at the back.
