The Blackburn Inn and Conference Center

The suite pictured on the website has two rooms. The one we were allocated had only one. The elevator only goes to the third floor, so if you are on the foirth- as we were - you are left to drag your luggage up a long flight of stairs. The room was tidy but the bathroom smelled of urine. The walls were thin, so you could hear everyone coming and going. To use the gum, you have to sign out a key and hike uphill to a different building.

A unique experience with a fabulous massage. I would recommend.

This hotel is beautiful and lovingly preserved. Every staff member we met was friendly and went out of their way to answer questions, especially about the building’s history. Breakfast at the Second Draft was perfect (get the iced collagen coffee!) and we really enjoyed the spa. The historical walls are literally a foot thick, so you can’t hear a peep from adjacent guests’ rooms. There’s even an art gallery on the third floor. Can’t wait to visit again!

It's not ok to have your website state that you have a restaurant and bar only to find upon check-in that it is closed. Also, we were not able to regulate the heat in our room.

We loved the historical feel, but the rooms themselves were dated and sparse. Coffee and water would have been nice in the lobby… we did not try the restaurant. The gym was in a separate building a short hike up hill, but a good warm-up. Having to sign out for a key was a little cumbersome, but the gym was adequate for a small hotel.

Interesting unique historical setting. Our room was spacious and comfortable and quiet. Just a walk or short ride to downtown restaurants and shops, Shakespeare playhouse, etc. We were disappointed that bistro/bar onsite wasn't open.

This was a quick pop in to meet up with family for a longer trip. It was a little difficult to locate the parking lot and the door as it does not have a traditional entrance. I did not provide dinner as stated. The restaurant was suppose to open the night we arrived but never opened. They are not equipped at the coffee shop for those that are dairy free so bring items that you need for morning coffee. We would stay there again as the rooms were large but maybe pick up dinner ahead of time when traveling late. The choices were Mexican or burgers:(

I really liked the freestanding soak tub, their breakfast cafe and the decor.

Property is gorgeous and spacious. Plenty of room to walk your dog after traveling.

Beautiful property but the restaurant was closed. We had to walk into town because of your false advertising. Very inaccessible. This is not what we expected

Beautiful historic hotel. Friendly staff. Clean spacious room. Easy walk to downtown and shopping and dining. This will definitely be our go to place to stay in Staunton!

Spotless

The room was not cleaned properly. Crumbs on floor from previous guest. Cobwebs hanging from lights and ceiling. Very little information communicated about the hotel like check out, internet, food.

Nice renovated place. Nice staff and a good location. The room was very clean.

Overall, the hotel was beautiful, rooms were modern and clean. Pillows however were not very comfortable and somewhat small. Hotel grounds were the best part of our visit.

Very noisy. While old wooden floors maybe charming they are very loud. Little or no insulation between floors resulted in hear every noise from room above. Shower floor had two dead bugs and overhead bedroom light had cobwebs. Location is a distance from highway and town has limited amenities.

I’ve stayed at the Blackburn many times now. Each and every visit has been peaceful and amazing. The rooms are always impeccable, the staff is always friendly and helpful, and the surrounding area is beautiful.

Great hotel, great amenities, great location. Ive stayed here 3 times in the past 2 months, business related. It has been consistently better than any of the others around this location. The cleanliness is above and beyond!

Room was small but wonderful. Only complaint is that the carpet rug was filthy. I let the front desk know and they apologized.

Room was small, no where to hang clothes, no iron in room, it was clean, easy access, close parking, easy in and out.

Check-in was easy but clerk was not overly helpful. The hotel is very nice, our room was comfortable but very small. The shower water leaked through the door causing water to pool on the floor. Although my hubby tried to clean it up, I slid and fell on the floor. Luckily I caught myself so didn’t get hurt

We booked a queen bed for our anniversary. Turned out it was a full bed instead. It was so small and my boyfriend had to sleep in the floor because it was so uncomfortable. We left at 430 am on the second night because we couldn’t take it anymore.

The hotel is beautiful in a large estate-like property so it is very grand. The area is quiet but close to the town. You can walk to town (about 12 minute walk). The room was small (we got the classic room) but comfortable since we didn't spent much time there as we were in town most of the day. I would stay there again. It has great history.

The hotel is very nice, but the main entrance doesn’t show up on Google Maps. It’s a bit old place very close to downtown Staunton. Btw - we went for the least expensive room. Since it was on the first floor, the view was of the air conditioners. I wish I had known the location (including no above grade windows) since I would have gladly paid a little more to have more light in our room.

Large comfortable room, nice bed, clean bathroom, pet friendly

Nice, quaint property. Hardwood floors and nice view. Only concern is that there are some rooms on the 4th floor which isn't accessible via the elevator.

The room was awful. Located in the basement with windows overlooking an alley. Cement floors with no covering. Tiny space. Ten inches on one side of the bed to the wall. No chair because there was no room. Ill fitting sheets that were not even tucked under the mattress. Restaurant not open for lunch or dinner and nothing within walking distance. I would never book this hotel again

My beautiful bride Tressa and I spent two nights at the Blackburn Inn. It was our second visit to this lovely hotel. Both times we had travelled from Virginia Beach to Staunton to enjoy the 3-hour train excursion operated by Virginia Scenic Railway. I wanted to share what wonderful service we received from both Amber White, your front desk supervisor, and Devin, one of the wonderful housekeepers. Both of these young ladies went out of their way to make our stay a wonderful experience. Because of my wife's medical issues, I had made a few special requests during our stay. Both Amber and Devin were so pleasant and attentive to us, it made us feel very special. I won't bore you with specifics, but suffice it to say that these two ladies are incredible representatives of both the hotel management and the Blackburn Inn. It is because of them that we will continue to come back to this beautiful property for our future visits to Staunton.

Exterior and staircase appealing. Rooms small but ok. Staff not accommodating or very friendly. Check in lady said our room was not cleaned the 2nd day because we didn't see the sign on desk to request cleaning room.

The room and hotel were well maintained with modern features. Great shower and a/c. Staff were great. Jim showed us around. Very comfy bed. We'll definitely come back!

It was great. The clerk at the reception desk, Kevin, was very knowledgeable about the property's history and very helpful with restaurant suggestions.

Amazing staff!!

I have no idea why they call the Blackburn Inn an “inn.” My room was ok and the property is nice and conveniently near Staunton. But the establishment is large and impersonal with few staff in evidence. You might as well stay at a Holiday Inn.

The staff was very helpful & very nice. The waiter at breakfast gave us the history of the hotel that was very interesting.

The hotel was nice and the morning staff was friendly. The evening person wasn’t very friendly or helpful too be honest. I would recommend the room service at all. I was extremely disappointed that they would charge $18 for 4 overcooked slices of bacon and brownish eggs in a to go bag. The bread was stale and the jelly was expired. No idea why they would charge so much for an awful breakfast. I ended up throwing it out and going else where. The rooms are large but lack proper cleaning in common areas. The hotel overall could use an update/clean. The best part of my visit was the spa. The spa was super clean and calming. I got an amazing orange clove massage that was to die for.

What a gem. A beautiful historic building close to downtown shopping & dining and loved my room’s high ceiling & wood floors. Great wi fi connection. Very quiet!

The history of this property makes it quite unique. There’s a beautiful spiral staircase that you can walk to the roof and see a view of the city. The signage for registration shows to enter up quite a few stairs to the inn. What would be helpful is better signage to direct you to an easier area where to unload your luggage when registration.

Property is well maintained while retaining the colonial charm. Room was large and the bathroom was remodeled and lovely. This was our first time here. We will return. Very easy on /off to interstate also.

nice place walkable to downtown

Highly recommended. One of my favorite hotel stays of all time. You'll feel like you're in a Jane Austen novel. Perfect for a romantic getaway. It's a historic building, grand and gorgeous. The room felt rustic but with modern touches. Large rainfall shower. Genuinely friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast is extra, will run you about $12-$20 per person in 2024. Not a big menu and we chose to eat at a local bakery called Réunion (amazing coffee & pastries!) which is a 10 min walk from the hotel, a couple of mins by car. There's a convenient parking lot on your left as you enter the historic downtown, only takes quarters at 75 cents per hour. There's free parking elsewhere but the paid lot is easy to access. The walk from the hotel to the downtown is short but not the safest at night as the sidewalks are narrow and you're walking close to cars. If you're lucky, you're in town for a play at the Shakespeare Center! Parking is free at the hotel. The main feature of the hotel is a spiral staircase. If you're fit to walk the steps, make sure you go to the top and enjoy the view! Only two suggestions for the hotel: - include more regular coffee pods in the room; happy to see a Keurig but only had one regular coffee pod, two decaf pods and one green tea - get the thermostat to stop blinking. This will only bother you if you're on the sofa bed, not noticeable from the bed itself. Dreamy hotel that I hope to return to one day. Glad I visited Staunton for this experience!

A unique repurpose of an existing historic structure that is walkable to town. However, you need to be able to walk the hill in addition to any town walking you do. Everyone is wonderful. Hanna from bistro, housekeeping, front of house all staff were awesome. Again, unique and wonderful.

Comfortable and modern hotel in an historic building. Easy walk to town but some street lights and pedestrian crossing lights would be an improvement.

The front entrance to the hotel is confusing - my GPS didn't bring me in the road in front of the property so it took me awhile to find where to check in. There was no designated parking for check in and two sets of steps to walk up so not handicapped accessible that I could see. Same for parking by the hotel. It's not far but there were no ramps, only steps and a small one way road that I guess you could pull up and unload your suitcases but it would block the road completely. I had two rolling suitcases and other equipment and it wasn't easy to unload without making two trips.

Lovely place that’s a welcome change from the cookie cutter chain hotels at a comparable price. Beautifully restored historic property with super comfortable room and a good restaurant (open Fri and Sat only). Part of aclarger complex and a little tough to find in the dark. Also lots of unnecessary email beforehand about downloading a keyless app, which you don’t need. Overall I liked it a lot and look forward to my next stay.

Loved the history of the property. The unique doors were definitely a talking point for my husband and I. The breakfast this morning was exceptional. The staff at the Bistro were wonderful.

Fun place to stay. Very comfortable but don't expect the normal room layout. If creaking floors bother you, ask for a room on the highest floor. The building is old with original flooring. That said, the little restaurant is superb. The cook is great and as she is the wait staff so is the staffing. There are places to sit and read or look out the windows at the views. The campus is quite lovely. It's history will interest many.

Unfortunately, during this stay the breakfast and the staff preparing and serving it were far below the standard for the rest of the hotel. The breakfast area was very cold, the french press coffee was made with the wrong grounds and was full of sludge, the kitchen did not have any lighter fare except toast that was served cold with rock hard butter and only one option for jam while the signature dish was missing mushrooms, a key ingredient; and service took almost 45 minutes. For the rest of the arts of the stay, the hotel was great as usual and we will come back, but we will get breakfast out, as we did on our second morning.
