Sophy is a beautiful hotel - our room was quiet, spacious and comfortable. My only criticism is that the restaurant closed at 9:30pm and the bar closed at 9:45pm which seemed very early on a Saturday night.

The hotel was beautiful and very comfortable. Our check-in was fine, however, parking was a block and a half way (in a less than desirable area at night) and no valet service. I never use valet, however, with most hotels not having on site parking, I would have used valet for this one night stay. I paid for parking and received a QR code confirmation. I used that to enter the garage with no issues. When I went to check out in the morning, I stopped at the front desk because I couldn’t locate the QR code on my phone anymore. I had no email confirmation or text message confirmation. So I asked the front desk how I could exit the garage and she told me she couldn’t help because the garage is not part of the hotel. I’d have to take it up with them. She told me to see if they had a gate attendant to help Or I may have to pay again. I asked her if they would reimburse me and she said no because they have nothing to do with the garage. Luckily, I was able to get a Supervisor at the garage to help me (at 6 AM!), but she was not happy with me or the hotel! I stayed at another hotel in downtown Chicago where their parking garage was also not on site. They told me if I had any trouble with the barcode they gave me at the garage, to hit the help button for assistance, or make the payment and bring them the receipt so they can reimburse me. Why the Sophy hotel doesn’t have similar relationship, I don’t know. I was lucky I found someone to help me!!

When I arrived I pulled up to the front to unload my bags. I went in to grab a cart and some guy told me I couldnt park there and to pull in the back to unload my bags. I was not going to do that since I was already right there. It was very insulting. In addition; Parking sucks. I didn’t know that parking was going to be 3 blocks away and I was supposed to scan the barcode at the hotel desk before I went to park.

The property was beautiful and comfortable. Lots of nice art. The lobby bar and dining area was nice. The shower had standing water and bathroom had a mild sewage smell. The TV did was a direct TV and I prefer a smart TV...but it worked out because I watched a movie that I would not have seen otherwise. The gym was surprisingly underwhelming. The amenity book says they have a shuttle; however I learned it was not the hotel's shuttle but the University. Overall it was convenient, clean, and nice. I would definitely return.

Our room was very nice. It had a great view. It was very clean. The only thing I didn’t like was having to park off site. It was very far, but it was a very cold walk.

Rooms are the nicest! Property very attractive and comfortable. Food in the bar/restaurant excellent! Staff needs to be better trained. Bar staff makes no eye contact, conveys no customer focus, denies access to seating requested with flimsy and inconsistent excuses. Staff at bar/restaurant just does not measure up to food! Who trained and selected them?

The hotel was dirty not the cleaners the trash can in the bathroom was not empty. I never been to hotel where I couldn’t get a hold of the front desk staff no one answer the phone. I check out the same day I got there only reason I didn’t check out sooner because we booked massages

Its was nice. The couch had some worn down areas and the toilet seat needs to be replaced but nothing worth complaining about. This was my 2nd stay. The 1st time the room was nicer, but I also booked directly that time so maybe i got a 3rd party booking room

Awesome experience. Beautiful spacious room. Full access shower. Nice sofa that could have slept two more people comfortably. Nice quirk was a record player and LPs. We called down and requested more albums.

The hotel is generally very nice, but we were disappointed with a few aspects of the service at our last stay. We were put in a room near the gym, which is open 24/7. We could hear people running on the treadmill late into the night, which was disruptive, and the hotel was unwilling to do anything about it or offer another room. It also took over an hour for them to send up sheets for the sofa bed when we first arrived (at night), which is not expected at a hotel in this price range.

I was pleasantly surprised about how upscale and beautiful the hotel was. The room was great with all the amenities and decor especially for the price I got.However there were some issues and my ratings shouldnt have been so high. Someone nextdoor spent hours singing and talking on a phone in the bathroom and I could here it LOUD and clear, but on the bright side at 4am staff was there quickly to address. I could have used a map or directory showing where the fitness room, ice dispensers, etc, were. Could have been one was avaliable and I was too lazy to find one but nothing was offered. And although the restaurant and lounge area were nice as far as i could tell there was nowhere to get microwave popcorn and soda late at night 😅. Probably I dont stay in enough hotels like this and vending machine are a big cheesy no no! Also would have liked a place to get a quick pastry or snack, especially in the morning, before going out. So overall, my daughter will be going to U of Chicago which was within walking distance and we were surprised and pleased with the hotel. It was upscale and beautiful for the price. There were shortcomings but we would stay here again and recommend it while mentioning the above.

Definitely, the best hotel bathroom I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing and the bed was amazingly comfortable. Room had appreciated extras such as a steamer and makeup mirror. Comfortable seating area right in the room. The only thing missing was a desk chair and do not park in front of the hotel when you were checking in, pull around to their shirt term parking lot to avoid getting a fifty dollar ticket

Very clean, Friendly staff. Nice location . Did not like that in order to turn the bathroom light on, the main bedroom light also had to be on at the same time. This was difficult for middle of the night runs to the bathroom.

I stayed here the night prior to my wedding and actually did a first look with my husband in the room the following morning. The staff was accommodating, as I left a few items at home. They provided me with what I needed without hesitation. They also took my dresses and bags to my room while I rushed out for a hair appointment. The room was clean and made the perfect backdrop for intimate photos between us two.

Was in town from Dallas for CFP and my friend and I stayed at the Sophy for the first time. The service was great from the second we arrived. The hotel is generally very nice, but we were disappointed with a few aspects of the service at our last stay. We were put in a room near the gym, which is open 24/7. We could hear people running on the treadmill late into the night, which was disruptive, and the hotel was unwilling to do anything about it or offer another room. It also took over an hour for them to send up sheets for the sofa bed when we first arrived (at night), which is not expected at a hotel in this price range.

The staff was dismissive and lied to us about complementary parking for University of Chicago Medicine patients. We called ahead of time to confirm and they assured us of the complementary parking onsite. When we arrived they denied it and looked at us like we were lying to them. We even quoted the day, time and name of the customer service rep who told us. They acknowledged the person but said parking is $40... strike one! After a dismissive stare down from the young inexperienced front desk girl, she gave us our keys and we made our way up to our room. Upon arriving at our room, the two keys they gave us did not work! I left my wheel chaired wife in the hallway outside our room's door and went down to get keys that would work. No apologies offered... strike two! Once in our room we had 2 small boxes of water, my wife needs to drink alot of water so I went down to the front desk and the women said she would send two more waters up to our room. The water never came... strike three! Finally, totally disappointed and frustrated with the lack of service and caring for their guests. I called & asked for the general manager who was "unavailable", so I sent him an email asking him to call me to talk about my disappointments... and, you guessed it, no response: no email or call. I don't think anyone cares at this hotel. Please avoid this hotel and spend your well-earned money elsewhere, that is unless you like paying for poor service, dismissive attitudes & total incompetence.

I want to say a big thank you to Chris and the other staff that made our stay wonderful. Chris works at reception. He made us feel like we were at home. He was so helpful in providing with information on how to get around and just ensuring that we were ok. This was our first time visiting Chicago and he made us feel welcome. The two ladies that did housekeeping, I want to thank them as well. Thank you Sophy Hyde Park my husband and I had an awesome time. One Love from your Jamaican guests 🇯🇲

The stay was ruined by the person at the check in post the morning we checked out. Was sleeping on one of the couches( it was 5:15 am) and got visibly annoyed that she had to get up to check us out. Did not greet me or speak and just glared at me during the whole transaction. No Good morning or any sign of good will much less common courtesy and manners. I asked for a print out of my bill and just shoved it at me. Disappointed since everyone else at the hotel was lovely and made us feel welcomed.

A wonderful place to stay in Hyde Park. Even the offsite parking was easy to access and plenty of places to walk and enjoy Chicago lakefront, museums, and food. Mass transit easy to find from location.

Hotel and staff are great. Really appreciate folks who pay attention to every last detail. Completely polar opposite to most interactions I experienced in Chicago (my hometown). I’d seriously recommend this property to anyone interested in staying in Hyde Park. Only downside (through no fault of the hotels) is the price of Ubers to get downtown and north. But proximity to Metra is definitely a plus. Starbucks and Harold’s Chicken within walking distance, top shelf property in my book.

What a wonderful hotel! My family and I had a perfect stay at the Sophy. We found our room ample in size and very well-appointed. Staff were helpful. The neighborhood was charming and very safe. We’ll definitely stay here on our next trip to Chicago!

We were in Chicago with our son for a college visit to the university of Chicago. The SOPHY was so convenient and we could easily walk through charming Hyde Park to the university. We loved it all! Great restaurants! Also easy to walk down to the beach!

Sophy is a beautiful hotel - our room was quiet, spacious and comfortable. My only criticism is that the restaurant closed at 9:30pm and the bar closed at 9:45pm which seemed very early on a Saturday night.

The hotel is gorgeous & the room fantastic. Great style, cleanliness & products in the room. However, I was upset that the restaurant, the only one on the property, was closed the entire time we were there (Sunday evening & Monday). Considering this is one of the few nice places in the area is was very disappointing to not be able to have a drink in the lobby & breakfast at the hotel in the morning.

It’s a really nice hotel with a great restaurant inside. We ate there for breakfast and it was delicious. We got in late when we checked in and were tired so we tried ordering room service but nobody would pickup the phone at the restaurant, apparently they were too busy they said. Other than that it was a great stay! Room is clean, bed was so comfortable. We would stay there again.

The room was larger than I expected and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. The linens of good quality and the choice of bottled water was a pleasant upgrade. The staff respected privacy and when engaged were helpful and friendly.

We loved our stay at this hotel. It was well maintained and nicely appointed. The staff went the extra mile to make sure we got well taken care of. The restaurant downstairs was very nice and had a decent menu. The food was well prepared and very tasty. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend this hotel to others.

Nice eclectic hotel in Hyde Park. Lots of meter regulated street parking available after 7pm. Rooms are nice and cozy, however paper thin walls. Carpet in the lobby and rooms need steam cleaning. Housekeeping personnel were very nice. Messler/ Food and drinks from Messler were very tasty and the staff was nice.
