Mayan Monkey Los Cabos - Social Hostel

Ubicado enfrente de la Bahía, muy limpio y de buen ambiente, lo único malo es que no especificaba que no tenía estacionamiento, y tuvimos que dejarlo en una plaza donde nos cobraron por hora, mañana y noche, no lo recomiendo para quien lleva coche, por el contrario súper si vas en transporte

Pros: fun hostel and super friendly staff, nice rooms with consistent cleaning, big TV, comfy beds, things to buy including water/snacks and gift shop, nice restaurant and pool area, offers daily activities. Convenient and walkable, right by the beautiful marina (you can hear the seals barking at night). Staff again was extremely friendly and helpful. People hang by the pool and will offer cheap group activities to the hostel/hotel goers like snorkeling, party boat, etc (shoutout Javier). Cons: BIGGEST BY FAR WAS THE SHOWER HAD ZERO HOT WATER THE WHOLE 10 DAYS, SO WE HAD TO USE THE HOSTEL SHOWER DESPITE PAYING FOR A PRIVATE ROOM WITH A SHOWER. We also got charged $10 for getting foundation (makeup) on a towel (that would be fine but they accused it of being...something else...but it wasn't.) Sometimes the TV wouldn't work, the light wouldn't turn on, and there was no soap in the dispenser by the sink. Loud club music playing by the pool all day and into the night; that was fine for us except when we wanted to sleep in. Wish it was more accessible (but there was a hidden elevator). Plus, there's no microwave or fridge in private rooms. Overall, 4/5 or 4.5/5. It was a good time and we don't regret it at all!

Mayan Monkey is in a great location right on the marina. Fabulous staff, Great happy hour special, well built bunks , great pool and activities! All around a great vibe! Can’t wait to come back and stay here again !

Had a great time here. Perfect location to hit the beach/town/marina/eat etc. Seals can get quite loud at night lol but it’s fine. Had a beautiful view of the Marina. Food in the hotel is good. Social pool area is nice. DJ was excellent every day by the pool and the hotel wasn’t noisy at all at night. Great place to stay over all, would come again!

NO COMMUNICATION.. EXTRA TAXES AT CHECK IN. NO PARKING 40 US DOLLARS A DAY AND U HAVE TO PULL YOUR LUGGAGE. DID NOT TELL US THERE WAS AN ELEVATOR. SO DRAGGED BAGES UP 3 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS. THEY JUST NEED TO COMMUNICATE BETTER

Music at pool area way too loud for way too long.

We loved the Mayan Monkey! It had everything we needed ~ a communal kitchen, and also breakfast/lunch if we didn't care to cook, plus a bar beside the pool. The staff was terrific ~ especially Jaime (6 Stars for Jaime!!!), whose attentiveness and service went above and beyond. The location was perfect. Normally, we'd prefer a hostel someplace close to the local tiendas and restaurantes, but we were only in Cabo for a few days, so why not throw ourselves into the maw? We splurged and stayed in one of the rooms with a view of the harbor. Advantages: Comfortable bed, air conditioning, private balcony. Awesome sunrises watching the boats glide through the harbor, birds soaring overhead, sea lions barking on the docks. Disadvantages: No hot water in the shower (but you get used to it). Our room was above a street level bar, and from 10am to 8pm, the music was non-stop. The speakers for said music were directly below our balcony. When I say it was loud, I don't mean it was annoyingly loud ~ I mean it was permanent hearing damage loud! It was impossible to relax in the room or have a conversation. Meanwhile, the rooms around the corner along the walkway (without the harbor view) were peacefully quiet. We'd escape the noise and go to the pool, but there was always music on there, too. Not as loud, but definitely louder than it needed to be. 5 Stars for location and everything we needed for a few days. Minus 1 Enormous Star for the insane, incessant noise.

Private and shared rooms. We had a private room. The room was great. Normal daily housecleaning. We scheduled our excursions from the desk. The Pool and Bar area was awesome. Great service, great food, great drinks, and great vibe.

Check in and check out was slow and confusing. Payment made on Amex but deposit required on Visa. Then problems refunding the deposit. Room was not very clean. Could use fresh paint and some updates. Pictures definitely not accurate. Hotel is really a hostel with a couple of regular rooms. Expect to have a younger crowd and party atmosphere. Complimentary breakfast is a joke too. I would avoid this place unless you are under 25. Positive is location with cool views of marina with our room.

I booked this accommodation about 5 minutes before I turned up, so didn't know what to expect. It is down town, right on the marina, and occupies the top floor of a small shopping complex with bars. It was quite noisy when I arrived, but in the dorms, totally quiet. At it was the music in the local bars stopped at 7pm anyway. Clean rooms, good food, nice bar. Really glad I booked in here as it was close to the dive school I was using too.

Joselyn at the front desk was great! She helped me with booking a ride to the airport. Breakfast staff were excellent as well. Property location is good! WiFi was great as well. When I arrived at 11am, reception asked me to come back at 3pm for checking in. When I came back at 3pm, rooms were not made and cleaning crew were not available to make my dorm bunk bed ready for me. Bathroom and showers were really dirty and flooding. Every day the entrance key card had to be reprogrammed at least couple times. Super loud music at the bar that went on pass midnight. It was very hard to sleep because of the noise.

Loved staying there, clean, safe, very comfortable with very friendly, helpful staff....would definitely return and highly recommend.

The place was super clean, well organized, and affordable. The large staff was genuinely gracious and kind, helpful and efficient. The breakfast was ample, the full menu was pretty varied and the bar open long hours. I loved the fresh ginger, celery, carrot, orange drink they will blend up for you. Many activities were offered for free, including a fun salsa class. There are several beaches nearby. There is a modern co-working room with outlets for computers and super comfortable office chairs and nice lighting at each seat. The women's dorm was quite nice, although everyone agreed the bed pillows were too thick. I was traveling solo and met a number of really wonderful people. The only downside for me was the many hours of loud often electronic music from mid to late afternoon until past midnight, making it impossible to enjoy a meal, a quiet conversation or really relax in the dining or pool area or around the bar during those hours. It was just too much and too loud. The dorms are somewhat insulated from the noise but not entirely. i took refuge at an excellent nearby restaurant.

Be prepared to hear Sea Lions all night, no places to store your gear, no fridge, no ice machine, no hooks anywhere

Great place, you can see seals from your window. I got a private room with balcony overlooking the Marina and it was pretty amazing. I would stay there again!!

I booked this hotel based on the high reviews. Upon check in I got to my room and could barely hear anything over the loud music, whistle blowing, and person on a microphone hyping up the crowd from the bar directly under my room overlooking the marina. I went to the desk to ask for another room even though I paid more for a marina view and they said the bar closed at 6pm so I said ok I'll deal with it. The bar did close at 6pm, however, there's drink hut across from the bar that stayed open until about 10pm with music blasting. If you stay on the other end closer to the office boy do you get a surprise. The pool has a DJ and music blasting until 12-2am depending on the day. The room itself was fine, bed was comfortable, and the AC worked well. I would not recommend this to anyone who wants a good night sleep. The walls are thin and you can hear most of what goes on in the room next to you. If you want to party this is the place for you.

I've stayed at MM locations before and they're pretty great for what it is. This particular location do not get the single room unless you love sleeping in fried shrimp air while sitting on the speakers directly above Senor Frogs. The kitchen exhaust kicks all the fryer air directly into the bedrooms.. enjoy!

I had such a perfect stay here, I got a private 2 queen bed room. The price point was great and the location couldn’t have been better, everything was walkable. We walked to the beach, restaurants, stores, and coffee shops with ease, and being right in the marina made it even more special. The room was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable, easily exceeding my expectations. You also need a key card to get access to the room area, so it felt very safe. The hotel had a nice pool, daily happy hour drinks, and plenty of social events, which made it easy to meet people. I appreciated that it was both lively and relaxing. Check-in and check-out were quick and smooth, and every staff member I interacted with was kind and welcoming. Overall, an incredible experience with no complaints, I’d absolutely recommend it.

The hotel is basically OK, but there are a few things that could be improved. The rooms have very old TVs (no smart TVs). Our room was directly above a bar that played very loud music, which was very unpleasant. The rooms were clean and very large. Perhaps they could put a few cupboards or shelves in the room, then the space would be used well. Breakfast was OK, but not great.

Just ok. On top of a mini Señor Frog's for cruise people. They open early but close early as well. So if you're not a morning person, you will wake up to loud music. The rooms with the balcony are very small compared to the ones with 2 beds. Location is good.

Rms r very clean,no mini fridge no microwave,no hot water to shower,hot water at sink thoo.breakfast is poor eggs r not cooked rite,it says omllet with sausage and spuds,u dont get sausage or spuds,u get chips and some kinda of black sauce?,food in general is blah tasteless lunch,dinner,drinks at bar..lol.they dont hav knowledge on how to make any drinks pinacolada,momosa,margretta no good at all,the server's r lazy,dont want to walk over and see if u need another drink or anything,paid $15.99usd for a pinacolada at night came back the next afternoon paid $12.99usd for 1 pinacolada,security guy wouldnt let take any food or drink to my rm,all in all if u want a clean place yes go,if u want good food,service a quite stay(noise goes on from its bar till 1am,then the people party till 2-3am and nothing is done about it)...quite stay..not here,helpfull frontdesk thoo.

Our room was identified as a "Premium Double Room, 1 Queen Bed, Balcony, Marina View 10/10 Exceptional" The room is not premium or exceptional! I felt we were scammed. We will not return or recommend it. The balcony comfortably seats only one person. With several nearby bars blaring loud pulsating music, it was not restful or relaxing. We had to ask for nightstand lamps (only received one). The open clothes rack system is too small for 2 people. Only one luggage rack. We asked for another luggage rack; but, didn’t receive it. There is no chair or table/desk in the room. We asked for a small table and chair; but never received it. Plus side: Room cleaning was very good. Marina view was pretty.

Place is nice. Check in was a little slow but people were nice. Beds were nice and big and there was ac to keep the bunk beds cool. Curtains and electrical outlets come included with bunk beds.

Melo checked me in and as he was checking me in, he greeted everyone coming into the office by name and remembered room numbers - super impressive and he was so kind and helpful! The rooms were great, breakfast was delicious, and beds were comfy. Highly recommend

Wonderful hostel. Friendly staff. We decided to extend our stay and upgrade our room and they were more than accommodating.

I called hotel to cancel reservation day before due to my father falling ill and receptionist stated I needed to contact booking agency. I contacted agency and i was informed hotel would contact me through email since expedia’s attempts to converse over the phone failed.

Such a cute place! The food and drinks are so good! Everyone there is super friendly. Rodoiťo Marlon had excellent customer service. He helped us check in & out. He also helped us book a boat ride…so beautiful. I will definitely be coming back!

The stay was cozy and the staff was friendly until the check out. The maid was called to the front desk and she had my sheets and towels in her hand and decided to show they to everyone in the lobby and charge for me using the towel to wash my face and because it had makeup on it. Completely unprofessional and rude. Never had that happen before when all they needed to say upon check in that they would charge for the towel. Completely unnecessary and strange. I'll never be back.

This place is clean, quiet and enjoyable. I would recommend to anyone. So close to the marina that you can hear the sea loins. Will stay there again when we return.

Stay for two weeks. My first time at a hotel. This place is set up and run very very well. They care about the guest experience. Daily activities to partake in. The breakfast option was very good with several options to choose. Location is right on Marina with a beach within 5 minute walk. So much to see and do in the area, all within walking distance. Would definitely recommend. Great deal for the price.

Buen lugar con buenas actividades. El restaurante es malo y lento, fuera de eso todo muy bien.

Even more social and fun than advertised. Very secure and safe. Group activities and location made getting out in Cabo very easy. Hikes, classes, karaoke, all great. Waitstaff was attentive, relatable, and engaging, especially Cesar and Alex. Food was a standout too. Huitlacoche tacos were the vegan all day available option. Met amazing people and enjoyed the outfoing and safe environment. The reviewers complaining about music late into the night stayed in the wrong place. Also, everything is shut down and church quiet by 1 am. If traveling solo or with a small extroverted group, stay at Mayan Monkey. Experience of a lifetime.

El servicio en general fue bueno, la estadía fue excelente un lugar armonioso y confortable. En la noche el área de alberca con d.j. De lo mejor para estar con amigos en una platica amena. Mi único pero el café del desayuno, creo es soluble y podría mejorar.
