Avon Hotel - Toms River

Very poorly kept facility. The "electric" entrance door was broken and had to be opened and closed by hand. Towels were rough and room was not well maintained. There was a hole in the ceiling where the sprinkler head should have been. Would definitely not recommend this location.

From the moment I walked in there were issues. No phones in some rooms. No shower curtains. Room smelled of mildew. Hotel needs updating. No continental breakfast. No pool. No ice buckets or working machines.

No continental breakfast, pool was being repaired. Vending machines were no stocked. When checking out. Desk clerk said only the manager can check me out. I was leaving. No time to wait for my receipt. Still have no idea what my charges are.

Swimming pool was advertised but, not open. Free breakfast was advertised but, none was available.

We didn't mind this hotel, it was very basic but cleaner than a stay in seaside heights. The room was damp but cool. The pool and fitness area were closed, and the fire alarm went off once during the one night stay (but turned off shortly after). Hotel was small, parking was easy. They had a tiny, tiny breakfast area but we did not check it out. Staff were fine. Id rather stay 8 minutes from the boardwalk for this price then double in the boardwalk for a dirtier room.

The facility was in disrepair. The entrance door didn’t work. The building and room was rundown and dirty. The hallway and room smelled of cigarette smoke. Overcharged for what you get.

I feel they should post on their site the pool is temporarily closed. One of the reasons we stayed there was for the pool.

Well I was in this hotel before 7years ago , was amazing , … is not that bad now but , if you go to the web , they still have old pictures when I was stay … now , is nooooo pool , nooo gim , nooo breakfast!, the staff is amazing! They really need an update the rooms , smelling!!! , … is in good area with a lot options for eat , but I don’t think , to stay there next time ! ….

The bed was comfortable, good big TV. Cloth chair in bedroom was filthy as was hall carpet. Had coffee machine in room and outside of room. Front desk man was very helpful.

Hotel is fine for a couple of nights. Room was very clean. Linens were very clean. Bed slept well.

We will sleep in there for two days, in the room is a bedbug on both bed, More than 30 bedbug bites

This property is what you’d expect for a cheaper stay in Tom’s River. Nothing exciting with few amenities but is good enough for a night or twos stay. It is cleaner than some properties I’ve stayed at but there were some stains on the sheets and the hallways smelled like urine or smoke masked with cleaning products. I did appreciate that it wasn’t as outdated as some of the hotels in the area but definitely could use some work.

Window had black mold .

First getting to the hotel the front door was broken so there were signs to go through the side door, which was where the stair case was. There was a very nice gentleman at the front desk. They charged our room when we checked in. We got to our room and I was taken back by the water damage alone the walls and musty smell in the room. The shower was stained black and rust color (apparently from an anti-slip) however the bathroom also stunk like urine. I went to the front desk to ask for new bedding/ pillows around 9pm and was told that no one from house keeping was there and he left a note for them for the morning that I was requesting full service and new pillows. Around 9am someone came to our room and gave me 1 pillow. We left around 10am and on our way out we were asked if we were checking out where I said no. We then returned back at around 5pm, and our room was not cleaned. I went down to the front desk and asked the gentleman that was there for new towels. He asked how many I needed, and I asked for 4 he said he only had 2 for me and didn’t know where housekeeping kept anything. Upon checkout as we were leaving our room there we’re two people from housekeeping sitting in the hallway to our floor with the cart. As I went down to check out, it was not the same gentleman, and was a very u friendly experience. On top of all of this the pool was a closed for construction, so we weren’t able to enjoy that either. Very disappointed by this stay.

Stay twice. Second time I bitten by bed bugs. Buyer beware. Not clean Towels are paper thin.

Zero customer service. Staff not friendly nor welcoming at all. The rooms are old and the beds are not comfortable. When laying on the beds you feel the bed springs on your back. There are no microwaves in the room. The entire hotel has to share one microwave near the lobby. There is no continental breakfast. This hotel offers nothing.

Let me say first and foremost, the staff was very nice and I have no complaints about them. My issues stem from ownership. It is an older hotel that has changed hands once or twice, its worn and dated. It is clear that ownership has no desire to update or maintain this property with the exception of the surveillance system. The front door didnt work, the room has no alarm clock. The toilet runs, the HVAC is noisy, etc. Its okay if you just need to rest your head for the night, but for $200 per night you can find better accommodations.

The room was clean and basically modern . it was definitely no frills. no plastic cups with the ice bucket and should have been more towels. no phone to contact the desk which is a negative too

All the staff there are helpful & friendly. The rooms can use a bit of upgrade, they are always clean & bed is comfortable.

While the bed and pillows were comfortable and the room was clean, several things were lacking. I had NO shower curtain. The TV didn’t work. The remote had acid corroded batteries in it. The curtains were broken and didn’t close all the way, letting in the early morning light. Eco- friendly? I had NO drinking glasses, plastic or glass. The location is on a highway, like a motel or motor lodge.

Room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was good size with large vanity. Outside area needed some upkeep and landscaping. Overall a nice place to stay the night.

The room was clean, bed good, working fridge, desk, dresser, arm chair. No microwave, but a couple available in the kitchen area. Absolutely fine - especially for the price.

Staff is downright terrible. They have the audacity to come into your room while you are asleep and wonder why you argue with them, but I’m the one in the wrong according to hotel staff, I’m not the one who walked into someone’s room.

Peaceful stay! Thanks to the reception team for giving me all the support and information I requiered during the days of my stay. Surely will come back in Summer.

From the broken front door to the clerk who couldn't (or wouldn't) give more than a single syllable response, the stay began awful and stayed that way. I mean, let's be clear: we're talking about a cheap motel/hotel in Toms River in July. We're not exactly talking about the Ritz Carlton here. But... The room had no amenities, nothing. The ice machine was broken. The pool was out of service. Most hotels I've ever stayed at go out of their way to make sure there are plenty of outlets for stuff like chargers... not here. Only room for one charger in the entire room. And then there was the cleaning crew. On the morning of checkout, I began to take our stuff downstairs. I walked past a member of the crew who asked if I was checking out. I said, "soon, not yet." Within seconds of me turning the corner to go into the elevator, they walked into my room while my wife was still getting dressed. Completely unacceptable. The front desk heard about this, I promise. Don't stay here.

Lady checking me in was just angry. Never maid eye contact. Just said what do you want while checking me in. Then when i got to the room it eas dirty. No towels, big stane on the comforter then pulled it back an the sheets were dirty. When i went back down to the front desk. I had to deal with a angry person that wasnt helpful. She acted like i was lying about the room. She said you can either change the sheets your self our leave. We argued finally i got to another room. But bad staff will kill this place.

We just needed a clean, comfortable place to stay to celebrate Mom's 85th birthday and they provided just what we were looking for. Staff was nice, convenient location, we have no complaints.

Location was quite loud at night, not very convenient, otherwise everything was great.

Avon is a decent hotel at a fair price, strategically situated 15 minutes from the bridge to the barrier island. Don't expect a lot of creature comforts. We were exploring the beaches and boardwalk of Ocean County over the Labor Day weekend, with that said we did not spend a lot of time in the hotel. The carpet could use replacement, the main front door was inop had to use the side entrance.

AVON Hotel was conveniently located near our family house. Clean and a comfortable bed.

Easy parking, easy check-in. No hassles. Polite staff.

The hotel was clean- it's some updating but nothing major. Rob was truly a sweet guy with a good sense of humor with a lot of patience for some of these customers who had no common sense. The hotel is closeness enough yet far away enough from the beach traffic. I would stay here again if I come back to Jeresy.

Clean, but no coffeemaker in room, good location

I was hesitant about staying here due to the mixed reviews with a majority of them negative. First off, the gentleman at the front desk was very kind and helpful. Check in went smoothly as my kids and I spent a long hot day at the beach. The room was very clean and the sheets and blankets were clean and fresh. Beds were very comfortable. Air conditioner was set at 70 and for two nights we didn't have to touch it at all. Very nice room for the price. The maintenance man went above and beyond to help me store a couple coolers and a trailer shelf behind the building so it was out of sight. As far as some negative reviews, there was no microwave in the room but you can tell there was a spot for it. They did have one on the first floor where we had to go down to heat up our take out. No coffee pot in the room but they did have a nice one on the first floor. No continental breakfast but you can tell they used to have one. Nothing close to walk to, but other than that, location was great. Looks like the last hotel before the bridge. Overall I highly recommend.
