This hotel is an amazing place with a world class Botanical Garden attached and beautiful thermal baths throughout, guests have 24 hour access to both. They have an indoor pool steam and dry sauna. The staff is very well trained and for the most part local. Everything for the client! The restaurant is 4 star and the breakfast extensive and delicious. We came to have lunch 6 months ago and vowed to come stay the next time we flew to Portugal. Well worth the trip and it will not be our last.

We stayed for 4 nights. Everything was great from start to end. Unlimited access to Terra Nostra Park, and thermal pool is included. Indoor pool and Turkish bath very nice. Breakfast is an extensive spread enough to last until dinner. Staff seemed genuinely happy to help you. Visit the thermal pool at night!

Summary: I do like this hotel and do recommend staying here. However, I deducted 3 stars for the following reasons: - the thermal pool closed for cleaning our second night, but the following morning we found the jacuzzi pools also closed, as well as the indoor pool (pool hours), meaning on our third morning all pools and spas were closed. - the Turkish bath was closed for 4.5 out of 5 days. - several small cost cutting changes since our last visit around breakfast and coffee. Note - I did contact the hotel before posting this review, and they advised that cleaning and maintenance are standard hotel operations.

Sejour formidable. L'accès au jardin et aux bains est vraiment un plus mais le reste des installations ( piscine in door sauna jacuzzi hammam) est impeccable. Restaurant superbe. Le tout avec un service remarquable et un personnel charmant. Nous avons été surclassés pour une suite...quelle chance !! Et merci a l'hôtel.

All members of the staff were attentive, friendly, and helpful. They even helped me plan my multi day adventures across the entire island! Having private access to the hot springs was very important as there was no seating in the hot springs! This meant we were able to sit on the stairs without disrupting others.

Terra Nostra Garden Hotel is like a slice of Eden! Set in Furnas, one of the most beautiful places we visited in São Miguel, it offers peace and natural beauty in abundance. The staff were excellent — friendly, attentive, and always willing to help. There are plenty of lovely lounges and quiet corners to relax in. Our room was large and spotless, with the biggest bed I’ve ever seen! It had a small balcony but no seating — if I stayed again (and I definitely would), I’d book a room with outdoor space. The only slight inconvenience was that housekeeping ran until 17:00, and as we returned from hiking around 16:00, our room wasn’t always done yet. We dined in the restaurant twice — the food was delicious, service fantastic, and there were even great vegetarian options, which can be hard to find in the Azores. The spa was lovely, though the steam room didn’t drain properly, leaving some standing water. The real highlight is the setting. Terra Nostra Garden is breathtaking — filled with lush trees, flowers, and ponds. The thermal pool is amazing: large and wonderfully warm. Best of all, guests have exclusive access in the morning and after 16:30, when it’s beautifully quiet. Furnas itself is small, charming, and easy to explore. I would 100% recommend staying here — it’s truly unforgettable.

This historical property is located in the Terra Nostra Garden Park. The garden is huge and delightful to explore. Even though the large thermal pool was closed due to renovation, we were able to enjoy the smaller thermal jacuzzis. We also enjoyed the dining room for breakfast and dinner.

This is a beautiful hotel - like a 1930s ocean liner berthed in the most glorious gardens. Although the large thermal pool was closed for maintenance the smaller ' jacuzzi's and indoor pool made up for this. The breakfasts were really excellent with the best selection of pastries i have ever come across. We also ate in the Gardeners bar which was very nice indeed. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful

We had a really wonderful stay here. We enjoyed the hotel restaurant and went to the outdoor bar every night. The room was nothing too special, but we enjoyed our little balcony, it was quite clean, and housekeeping service was excellent. The parking lot is small and it filled up by the end of the day, but the staff helped us squeeze into a spot. The access to the gorgeous facilities and the small touches of the service made it well worth the price. We did not want to leave.

Von vorne bis hinten, ein perfekter Aufenthalt. Kinderfreundlich, Stilvoll und sauber. Einer der besten Hotels in denen wir untergebracht waren. Kaum zu glauben das es nur 4 Sterne hat und keine 5. 5 wären sehr verdient.

We had a lovely stay at the Terra Nostra Garden Hotel. The on-site formal and casual restaurants are very good, and they make some creative cocktails. The facilities and rooms are very clean. Conveniently located for Furnas and sights of eastern Sao Miguel. It was great to come back to the hotel after a day of driving and hiking. The after hours access to the garden and thermal pool are definitely a great perk of staying here.

I can’t say enough about this hotel and the botanical gardens attached. The only thing we were missing was a view, but we didn’t need it with all there was to offer outside of your ur room. The room had plenty of space and we loved the choice of pillows. The bed could have been more comfortable/softer. The bathroom was large. The only issue there was that the water somehow ended up leaking out onto the floor outside the tub and saturated the floor towel. The food at the restaurant and at the patio bar was all excellent! We wished we had more time to be able to try out the pina colada, which looked exotic and refreshing. The cheeseburger was the best we’d ever had (and we are not normally huge fans of hamburgers). At the restaurant, we enjoyed the starters that they brought to our table, a lovely glass of red wine, the cozido for two that had lamb (which I thought was excellent). Warning…it was enough to feed at least three people! We didn’t really have room for dessert, but t managed to try the dessert that contained pink pepper ice cream. It was delicious. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The highlight of our stay were the thermal mineral pool and the amazing botanical gardens! It was like being at a theme park. The grounds and variety of plants were phenomenal! This was one of our favorite places we have ever stayed at.

This is a very nice art deco hotel located on amazing property. You have the access to the Terra Nostra Gardens and termal pool. Thermal pool is fantastic, but make sure to wear dark coloured swim suit to avoid discolouration. The service was great as well as daily breakfast buffet and a restaurant. I highly recommend Cozido. The only thing we did not like is a lack of coffee maker in the room and a mattress with very high motion transfer. If you sleep in one bed and your partner moves, you will be bouncing side to side. For this reason o recommend booking a room with two beds even as a couple.

Stayed for three nights. Comfortable room with lots of amenities. The Terra Nostra garden is amazing and could spend the entire time there if you wanted to. The restaurant is very good and above my expectations. Didn’t get a chance to try the sushi restaurant but maybe next time.. Staff is exceptional as well, freindly and professional.

We had a really wonderful stay here. We enjoyed the hotel restaurant and went to the outdoor bar every night. The room was nothing too special, but we enjoyed our little balcony, it was quite clean, and housekeeping service was excellent. The parking lot is small and it filled up by the end of the day, but the staff helped us squeeze into a spot. The access to the gorgeous facilities and the small touches of the service made it well worth the price. We did not want to leave.

Overall, the hotel was excellent. The outdoor garden was absolutely stunning — beautiful, peaceful, and perfectly maintained. Truly breathtaking. What I liked less was that the rooms feel a bit old and outdated. Also, everything at the hotel is very, very expensive — even the bottle of water in the room is pricey. Nothing is complimentary or included. Thank you.

We had a beautiful room in the old part of the hotel, overlooking the garden, but we were above the kitchen and 2 of 3 nights, the movement in the kitchen was very noisy requiring earplugs at a minimum… so another room would be better. Breakfast was very good and plentiful and the staff attentive. We had 2 dinners in the bar both of which were excellent and reasonably priced. We had a rental car which was nice to get out and see the sights.

I can’t say enough about this hotel and the botanical gardens attached. The only thing we were missing was a view, but we didn’t need it with all there was to offer outside of your ur room. The room had plenty of space and we loved the choice of pillows. The bed could have been more comfortable/softer. The bathroom was large. The only issue there was that the water somehow ended up leaking out onto the floor outside the tub and saturated the floor towel. The food at the restaurant and at the patio bar was all excellent! We wished we had more time to be able to try out the pina colada, which looked exotic and refreshing. The cheeseburger was the best we’d ever had (and we are not normally huge fans of hamburgers). At the restaurant, we enjoyed the starters that they brought to our table, a lovely glass of red wine, the cozido for two that had lamb (which I thought was excellent). Warning…it was enough to feed at least three people! We didn’t really have room for dessert, but t managed to try the dessert that contained pink pepper ice cream. It was delicious. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The highlight of our stay were the thermal mineral pool and the amazing botanical gardens! It was like being at a theme park. The grounds and variety of plants were phenomenal! This was one of our favorite places we have ever stayed at.

Terra Nostra Garden Hotel is like a slice of Eden! Set in Furnas, one of the most beautiful places we visited in São Miguel, it offers peace and natural beauty in abundance. The staff were excellent — friendly, attentive, and always willing to help. There are plenty of lovely lounges and quiet corners to relax in. Our room was large and spotless, with the biggest bed I’ve ever seen! It had a small balcony but no seating — if I stayed again (and I definitely would), I’d book a room with outdoor space. The only slight inconvenience was that housekeeping ran until 17:00, and as we returned from hiking around 16:00, our room wasn’t always done yet. We dined in the restaurant twice — the food was delicious, service fantastic, and there were even great vegetarian options, which can be hard to find in the Azores. The spa was lovely, though the steam room didn’t drain properly, leaving some standing water. The real highlight is the setting. Terra Nostra Garden is breathtaking — filled with lush trees, flowers, and ponds. The thermal pool is amazing: large and wonderfully warm. Terra Nostra was one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at. From the moment we felt at home and so well taken care of. We were celebrating our honeymoon and the hotel staff made us feel so special with complimentary champagne and chocolates. The restaurant and bar were delicious. The 24 hour private access to the gardens and thermal pool were our favorite part. We were so sad to leave and already can’t wait to come back.

A remarkable stay. The hotel is very clean, staff is very proffessional, and the 24/7 access to the park is absolutely worth it alone. We were able to enjoy the pool to ourselves later in the evening and in the early morning because of this (may not be the case during peak season, but it will still be more serene than sharing with the public). The breakfast spread was amazing, I was very impressed, and it included many local products which I enjoyed immensely. The hotel is also located in the center of furnas, and we were able to walk around and enjoy the whole town easily by walking.

Sejour formidable. L'accès au jardin et aux bains est vraiment un plus mais le reste des installations ( piscine in door sauna jacuzzi hammam) est impeccable. Restaurant superbe. Le tout avec un service remarquable et un personnel charmant. Nous avons été surclassés pour une suite...quelle chance !! Et merci a l'hôtel.

Wonderful place to stay and enjoy the beautiful gardens, thermal pools and the small city. Staff was attentive and friendly. Restaurant is one of the best fine dining places in the island. We wish we'd planned another day here. Only problem here is the roads. This hotel is on a one-way street and some road closures nearby made it very difficult to figure out how to get there!

The staff is just as great as the property! Very welcoming and knowledgeable! The front desk was great and very friendly! I always enjoy this property and will definitely return. Amenities were all great and even though some areas were closed ro renovation outside the thermal pool and restaurant etc were 5 star. Everything was!

The Terra Nostra Garden Hotel is beautiful, and the service is impeccable. We stayed for three nights, and took full advantage of the access to the gardens and thermal pool, as well as the restaurant. The staff are all so friendly and helpful, and their professionalism really added to our stay. Highly recommend a stay here!

The hotel came highly rated and in some ways I can see why. The amenities are beautiful and very high end. However the hotel felt very stuffy, uptight and not as “comfortable” as we would have hoped. It may have been fine if we stayed there first on our trip but we stayed at an incredible property on the west side of the island first. We actually left Terra Nostra early and returned to the other one. Overall we just did not feel very welcomed at the property and it was just not warm.
The hotel came highly rated and in some ways I can see why. The amenities are beautiful and very high end. However the hotel felt very stuffy, uptight and not as “comfortable” as we would have hoped. It may have been fine if we stayed there first on our trip but we stayed at an incredible property on the west side of the island first. We actually left Terra Nostra early and returned to the other one. Overall we just did not feel very welcomed at the property and it was just not warm.

An absolute exceptional experience!! The food at the restaurants were phenomenal! The hot springs 24hrs as hotel guest was fabulous. The location was perfect to walk to lots of restaurants and bars. I recommend Restaurant family owned farm great beef and cheese -Queijaria Furnense Restaurant- Auththentuc volcanic cooked food - Tony’s Saca Rolhas Taberna - expensive dinner

Vi hadde en fantastisk uke på et hotell med unik tilgang til en varm kilde. Frokosten var god og variert, og vi opplevde en meget tilfredsstillende service. Hotellet ligger litt usentralt på øya, men det er kort kjørevei over hele øya. Du bør ha leiebil her, og hotellparkeringen er veldig bra. Maten på hotellrestauranten er av god kvalitet med fokus på enkle smaker, men det skal sies at enkelte retter var smakløse.

Very nice place to stay with access to gardens and hot springs without public. Rooms were comfortable, parking available and nice restaurant, along with other restaurants within walking distance. Highly recommend!
Very nice place to stay with access to gardens and hot springs without public. Rooms were comfortable, parking available and nice restaurant, along with other restaurants within walking distance. Highly recommend!

Hôtel parfait, sa piscine thermale accessible uniquement aux clients de l’hôtel avant 10h30 et après 16h30. On y va avec les peignoirs fournis par l’hôtel et bien sûr c’est gratuit pour les résidents. Les meilleurs petit déjeuner de notre circuit de 15 jours. Le restaurant est aussi très bien mais un peu cher pour ce qu’on vous sert, et surtout répétitif quand on reste plusieurs jours. C’est le seul restaurant de Furnas, sinon que des snacks.

Staff is very friendly and professional. Great location wih mineral water pool, very good services, including restaurant and bar. Big variety of the food in the breakfast. Room was cleaned every day.

Terra Nostra was one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at. From the moment we felt at home and so well taken care of. We were celebrating our honeymoon and the hotel staff made us feel so special with complimentary champagne and chocolates. The restaurant and bar were delicious. The 24 hour private access to the gardens and thermal pool were our favorite part. We were so sad to leave and already can’t wait to come back.

An absolute exceptional experience!! The food at the restaurants were phenomenal! The hot springs 24hrs as hotel guest was fabulous. The location was perfect to walk to lots of restaurants and bars. I recommend Restaurant family owned farm great beef and cheese -Queijaria Furnense Restaurant- Auththentuc volcanic cooked food - Tony’s Saca Rolhas Taberna - expensive dinner

We had a beautiful room in the old part of the hotel, overlooking the garden, but we were above the kitchen and 2 of 3 nights, the movement in the kitchen was very noisy requiring earplugs at a minimum… so another room would be better. Breakfast was very good and plentiful and the staff attentive. We had 2 dinners in the bar both of which were excellent and reasonably priced. We had a rental car which was nice to get out and see the sights.

Summary: I do like this hotel and do recommend staying here. However, I deducted 3 stars for the following reasons: - the thermal pool closed for cleaning our second night, but the following morning we found the jacuzzi pools also closed, as well as the indoor pool (pool hours), meaning on our third morning all pools and spas were closed. - the Turkish bath was closed for 4.5 out of 5 days. - several small cost cutting changes since our last visit around breakfast and coffee. Note - I did contact the hotel before posting this review, and they advised that cleaning and maintenance are standard hotel operations.

From the moment we arrived, the calm and peaceful atmosphere was palpable, creating a truly relaxing experience throughout our stay. 🌿 The standout features of the hotel are its expansive botanical garden, home to a wide variety of trees and exotic plants, and the impressive thermal pool located at the rear of the property. The fact that the pool is open 24 hours exclusively for hotel guests is a rare and luxurious touch. 🍽️ The breakfast buffet, which was included in our stay, offered a generous selection of fresh and delicious options to suit all tastes. We had a lovely stay at the Terra Nostra Garden Hotel. The on-site formal and casual restaurants are very good, and they make some creative cocktails. The facilities and rooms are very clean. Conveniently located for Furnas and sights of eastern Sao Miguel. It was great to come back to the hotel after a day of driving and hiking. The after hours access to the garden and thermal pool are definitely a great perk of staying here.

Great hotel in beautiful town of Furnace which is good hub. Private access to the outdoor Hot Springs in evenings after it closes to the public. Property is clean and staff were top tier. Recommend this hotel and glad we stayed here longer than hotels in larger towns on the island.

This has always been my favorite resort in the world to go to. I have been in many places, but the Furnas Terra Nostra hotel is the best by far when you consider all that is included in your stay there.

We spent three nights at Terra Nostra Garden Hotel, and it was completely worth it. We booked a standard room and requested a higher floor; the professional front desk staff accommodated us with room 138 based on availability. The room had a fantastic view, though the bed was a bit small for two. The hotel was meticulously clean, and having access to the garden and thermal pools after hours was the main highlight. The grounds are magical, filled with tall, unique overgrown trees rather than just flowers. Breakfast was phenomenal, featuring fantastic à la carte eggs and omelets served by wonderful staff. The hotel's location makes walking into Furnas village very easy. Driving is manageable since most narrow streets are one-way. Parking is limited; when the overflow lot was closed one night, we parked on a nearby street—a safe 5-to-10-minute walk with plenty of space. My only caveat is that their weekly full pool cleaning is not clearly documented. While we understood the necessity after seeing how clear the water was the next day with all algae removed, a one-night guest arriving during cleaning would struggle to justify the extra cost. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we would definitely stay again.
