Donnington Grove Hotel & Golf Club

We had a nice stay, the staff were nice, the room was a bit tired, comfortable bed, plenty of space in the room, quiet, great view from bedroom. Great location for local sites and Newbury races, plenty of parking. Lovery grounds to walk in, a Golf driving range on site, as well as a Golf course. within the grounds. We would come again, possibly with friends to play Golf in the Morning and go to the Races in the afternoon. We didn't have food at the property so cant comment. Good restaurants nearby and a nice theatre nearby. You could have a great weekend here if you plan it right.

Friendly staff No lift so beware ! No usb points for phone or laptop so take a plug ! As solo traveller room service would be a nice option Bed comfortable but rooms cleans but could do with updating The hotel itself is a huge old building very impressive from the outside and the grounds and lake there are stunning Staff in the bar restaurant were excellent

A lovely hotel in a beautiful, peaceful setting. The grounds are simply breathtaking and the village of Bagnor & the Watermill Theatre are a short drive or taxi ride away. As this is an older building however there was no AC to my knowledge which meant the room was hot in warm weather. Unfortunately I did not receive many VIP benefits at this hotel, just a discount at the restaurant. Late check out was not possible and I did not receive an upgrade either. However, overall this was a great hotel to stay in and a great experience, there is lovely decorations inside and the restaurant is lovely. The staff at reception and in the restaurant were all so kind and friendly!

Stayed here for 1 night for work. Long drive up to property through golf course. Okay greeting from person on reception. I was in room 304 which was up a lot of stairs (at least 3 flights) and there was no lift (which was okay for me). Room was huge as was the ensuite, but all very tired decor and needed redecorating. Bed was comfortable, WiFi was okay, TV was old and control was not great. Tea and coffee making facilities were in a draw and had to unplug another device to plug in the kettle. Lots of Canadian Geese in the grounds which did make an amount of noise both at night and in the morning.

Room was large and comfortable, but a few issues- poor wi-fi , TV didn’t work and no heating controls ( so room rather warm). Servicing was excellent, location beautiful and food good. ( We were told the room was due for refurbishment) Building is stunning!

Lovely grounds, quiet, convenient access and parking. Good front desk - notified me beforehand they would be grass cutting for a golf tournament and upgraded me so I would not be disturbed early in the morning.

A beautiful country mansion surrounded by the golf course and yet so close to Newbury town centre. Old style elegance with modern facilities.

Just stunning and beautiful in terms of its setting, large country park and golf, you go over the river on a bridge to the first view of a Gothic (Strawberry Hill) Mansion. The Parking arrangements were a bit ad hoc outside the hotel with the odd person pulling up and getting golf clubs out (for the nearby driving range) As a Blue Badge holder I was surprised that there was no disabled parking spaces at all, I had to park some way down the drive which was not ideal. Reception was friendly and staff showed us down to our room which overlooked the front of hotel. The room was large and warm, big windows, super en suite, there were tea and coffee facilities, water, hairdryer, iron and iron board, so very happy with room. Being picky the tv was old, the remote did not work and the carpet was a little threadbare by the bed, but it didn't impact upon the general satisfaction with the room and hotel. The grounds are just superb, whilst we were there, Canadian Geese were settled in front of hotel, the river had swans on and there is a plan in reception of public rights of way around the Estate. The Bar and Restaurant downstairs was quiet, but this was down to the time of year. The Beverages were reasonably priced and we did eat once in the restaurant and although the menu was quite limited, the food we had was of good quality and again reasonably priced. Menu does state 7.5% discretionary gratuity added to bill. We would stay again at this lovely hotel

Stayed in room 202. Room was extremely hot, windows open constantly, yet temp in room still above 25 degrees. Hotel carpets threadbare in places. Mould on silicone around bath etc At 6am when night staff change over, there is a Bluetooth speaker at the bottom of the staircase and this was always at a very high volume which woke me every morning.

We were very disappointed this time, the restaurant menu was a basic bar menu and nothing like the food we have had here previously. Our starter was served in two sharing buckets and when we raised concerns, they weren't dealt with initially. They were eventually resolve by a member of staff, who refunded our meal charge. It wasn't the experience we had hoped for on our last night. The lakeside room is in need of some repare and updating. Tired, rusty shower rack. Mould around the shower. My husband had to clean the shower head, so that we could shower because it was so scaled up. We had buy toilet paper because although I understand they are being eco friendly, this is bargain basic brown paper. Fan didn't work in the bathroom. We had lovey comfortable bed, great sheets and pillows. Good supply of teas and coffee in the room. We always stay here because we love the place. It feels safe and friendly but we probably would eat in the restaurant again, without reassurances that it had returned to normal.

We spent 2 very enjoyable nights at Donnington Grove, including an evening meal and 2 breakfasts in the restaurant. Everything was of a very high standard - luxurious, copmfortable beds, pillows and linen plus towels were good quality. The cleanliness of the whole place was extremely good and the cleaner was even going to come in during our stay. The restaurant too, was of a really high standard, the food excellent and plentiful and a reasonable price for such a high quality place. We are already planning a return trip.

Waste bin was found to be half full in bathroom. No VAT receipt available on departure, was told it would be forward, have chased up, still nothing 2 days later

Our room in the out house was tired and dull. The shower shelf was rusty. The tiles stained. Decor was dated. We were quite disappointed.

Very good value for money and lovely hotel. Room was very spacious and very clean with both bath and shower. The beds super comfortable. I would recommend this hotel it’s in an excellent location for visiting Newbury.

Lovely hotel, spacious comfy room and very friendly staff. Only issues - wifi dropping out constantly in Lakeview, lots of rust in the bathroom and breakfast staff weren't particularly attentive although very friendly

We were in the summer houses which were very spacious, clean and comfortable. The showers were the best ever. My husband did his morning walk up to the Castle and really enjoyed it. The full English breakfast was superb with delicious sausages and that set us up for the day. Overall a wonderful stay and we are sure to return. Highly recommend

Very nice hotel. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Check in and out was quick. The room was very large as was the bathroom

Our room was absolutely lovely. Large, airy and comfortable. Excellent shower but we did not like the extractor fan which came on when the lights came on automatically and stayed on for about 20 minutes- not good in the middle of the night.

Lovely stay at a lovely location ....great big room with great view ...

Set in an amazing location, we stayed in room 4 of the summer house with a great view of the grounds. The room itself was big but comfortable, the bed was incredibly comfy, the bathroom was also big, no bath but a wet room with a shower you can stand under for ever.

Food options were limited, Bed comfort excellent , internet access good, transport access good, Paint work looked tired and stains on bedroom carpet, woodwork on doors and frames was rotten.

View of river and golf course was beautiful when sitting outside on the room’s patio. Completed with outstanding service from the desk clerk who walked several hundred yards to our cluster of residential units to bring ice.

I had a wonderful 2 night stay with my father. Booked this hotel from NewZealand. Warm Welcome , friendly staff & very unique interesting building. Views amazing from the room 302 Beautiful heritage building set in park like grounds with golf club. All staff excellent & Zoe very helpful with queries later evening ; night time.

The staff were very friendly, especially the receptionist. This is an old Manor House that is listed, so they are restricted by what improvements they can make. It has a lot of character and charm and was very reasonably priced.

The room was very run down with a threadbare carpet and no bulb in one of the bedside lamps. The room was at the top of the building and no help was offered with carrying my luggage up the stairs. The bathroom was antiquated and the dodgy plumbing kept me awake as it made a tremendous noise every hour or so. The staff were cheerful and friendly but seemed inexperienced and there were very few of them. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds but could do with major improvements.

Lovely quiet setting. Relaxing and comfortable. Good shower. Decor a bit dated but it is a historic and unique property which is nice. Golf on the site. Hairdresser and spa treatments. Great theatre nearby. Walking trails including up to 15th century Castle ruins.

When my taxi pulled up to Donnington Grove, I was instantly impressed with this gem out in the country. I had a beautiful room on the top floor, enjoyed the cool evening air coming through the windows, and sitting in the late afternoon watching the geese bathe and play. It was a truly relaxing part of my England vacation!

This is a very unique property in that it is essentially a boutique style hotel in a country club setting. The course was designed around some history protected gardens. There are even the ruins of Donnigton Castle at the top of the hill. It was partially destroyed by cannon fire during the English Civil War. The rooms are definitely in an antique building and the facility is kept clean. I woke up to the sounds of geese on a green outside the window. There ate lakes and a river with swans and other water fowl. The restaurant was good and the bar was outstanding. The service was beyond excellent. It us near Highclere Castle as well. This was stumble on it find. It is really a memorable stay.

We choose one of the lodges in the walled garden due to it having a kitchen and private outside area to sit. Very roomy and bed excellent. Would have preferred to have a shower not a shower over the bath but to be honest we knew that as we booked. Overal the lodge eas clean, spotless bedding and towels. However the plates and utlery had not been washed properly so i washed those. The oven ould also do with a clean. The gardens were lovely and it was very convenient for highclere castle and newbury town centre. Dont bother with the restaurant its overpriced and not the best menu or great food

Great value for this historic property. Breakfast great, and dinner was also better than expected. Would recommend at this price point for sure

Excellent accomadation amazing surroundings and decor great fish and chips

Room was not too bad - nothing special, but clean and tidy. I thought the restaurant was good value for money and the food was of a good standard. Impressed by the young staff at the restaurant particularly the young lady serving at us a dinner and the young man serving breakfast. All in all - great for one night but probably wouldn't stay for longer.

We enjoyed every meal in the restaurant at the hotel. The service was excellent. I don’t recall the last time we dined out that the waitress and waiter were so nice. The dishes we tried were so good!!

The staff in the restaurant were very helpful especially Daniel (Bar supervisor) Food was fantastic and very quick service Room was very clean. Overall brilliant experience
