Lovely hotel staff were lovely at reception and restaurant the young girl at spa was very helpful & friendly. Food was incredible in the restaurant and the service is exactly as you would expect from this hotel. Looks like refurb still ongoing within spa/pool area and the potential is incredible. Changing rooms need to be managed more, no towels unless you ask. Some Robes available, no slippers lockers in mens dont work. Broken locks on toilet doors. No signage anywhere for spa, changing rooms, gym or swimming pool.

Despite the average overall review the hotel has some nice points. Impressive main building and main public rooms. View from our room was very nice. Room itself was largish, comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Some rather random furniture and fittings. Good toiletries but poor refreshments (only instant coffee and cheap plastic bottled water not replenished during 3 night stay). Swimming pool and gym very good. Location quiet (apart from distant hum of the M8) and fairly convenient to access Glasgow by train from the local station about a 10 min drive, parking free). Away from the main public areas the carpets and general condition looked a bit tired. Food was ok rather than good. Scrambled eggs with breakfast was the high point. Our room wasn’t serviced on one day. Clearly the housekeeper had an accident spilling some liquid and in clearing this up (leaving a wet and dirty pillow case in the room) was distracted from completing the job. Some staff seemed shall we say a little unenthusiastic. A major part of the hotel’s business looks to come from weddings. Very quiet apart from this. At £200 a night I would expect better to be honest and hence only 3 stars.

Mar Hall really is special with spectacular views across the Clyde and 249 acres of grounds. Cristal Restaurant is excellent and maybe not quite fine dining but pretty good and service good also. Dining in the bar is decent food but service tends to be a bit slower as restaurant seems to take preference over bar for drinks and kitchen orders. On arrival the Staff were very friendly. The room was clean and the bed exceptionally comfortable. Unfortunately the Pool Sauna/Steam Room which was advertised, but we’re inexplicably “Out of Service”. Having spent over a month nursing my terminally I’ll Mum in a Care home and sleeping in a chair by her bed, I was looking forward to relaxing before and after the Funeral. I didn’t get to relax. Just a nice room with chargeable internet. In my view due to having “Half the service” I was expecting, I would rate it as only being worth half what I was actually made to pay. Had I known the spa was down, I’d have booked into a Glasgow Hotel with an operational Spa. A real shame as I had really looked forward to my stay there. 6/10

Beautiful hotel in stunning surroundings! Staff were really friendly and helpful! The spa and pool were excellent. We were recently married and the staff arranged a gift for us which was a really nice touch!

The hotel is nice, room was very big and comfortable for the price, leisure center is new with a large swimming pool. Value for money was excellent overall. However, food was disappointing. Breakfast was very average and dinner was one of my worst restaurant experience since a long time.

Great relaxing trip with my friend, used the leisure facilities which were OK but a pity you can't use the jacuzzi outside unless you're booking in for spa treatments. Had a lovely twin room in the main building which was really nice: plenty of space and the bed was comfy and bed linens were good quality. Breakfast was excellent with hot and cold options.

Overall a lovely overnight stay but with a few minor operational niggles taking a little of the shine off. Room was lovely, spacious, clean and all the staff we interacted with throughout stay were very pleasant and well trained, and seemed like they cared. Food was very nice and in fact one of the party said it was the best dinner he had had in any Scottish hotel of this type. Overall we were talking about a return sometime.

Hotel is in need of a refurb. Carpets downstairs ripped creased up and a trip hazard throughout. Breakfast was buffet style and most things were cold and over cooked

Our first room was a fair distance underground with no views in a modern building which could only be accessed through spa reception. Very odd considering we booked to stay in a castle. Changed rooms for a price to main castle. Grand room with 4 poster but on closer inspection carpet was full of holes. Dead insect on bed. No coffee machine. No minibar. Old and tired decor. Had our small dog as classed as dog friendly. Not allowed in restaurant. Not allowed in bar. Only allowed in far corner of lounge and to add insult to injury charged £50 to have her. You woukdnt know she was there! Also jotel under huge refurb which made place dusty and access was confusing due to rooms and corridors being cut off. Didnt know this before. No messages about it. The positives are- the staff. All very professional especially waiting staff. The spa and pool was very nice. The outside area is beautiful. The lounge is stunning. The food was excellent. Lovely ambience in the evening. My husband raised our issues on departure and this was well received and professionally handled. We would definitely come back - without the dog and after the refurb is done.

We’ve stayed here before and it was excellent in every way. Not this time it was a junior suit on two levels first thing I noticed was how damp it felt then started to see all the wall very badly mark wallpaper coming appart carpet stains . Mould all round edges of carpet that made me feel sick….. bed felt really damp due to the dampness in the room Bed so hard not a good sleep at all Ended up getting ready to go home early even though it was a 12 o’clock check out Ive never ever experienced anything like this before room need redecorating new carpets and treating for the disgusting mould Linda lewis

View from our room and around the ground was the highlight of our stay. Hotel is dated, carpets were ruffled and not fitted which could cause a trip hazard. There was M&M sweets on our floor in the bedroom under the table that must have been missed by the cleaner. The rooms needed upgrading, stains on wall, ceiling and carpet. No usb sockets. We telephoned reception at midnight due to the level of noise from room next door, had to leave a message but no-one got back to us. Noise continued to after 3am. So either really noisy guests or poor sound proofing. Dinner was lovely but breakfast was over cooked and not the best. Definitely would not give a 5 star rating.

The staff were lovely but I would say the rooms could do with some TLC. The walls were chipped and scraped and the seal along the shower screen was dirty and old and there was a stain on the carpet and a musty smell in the room. I wouldn’t say the rooms are 5 stars but the bed was great.

There was a leak in our junior suite room...we were offered external lodge .. which was ok except heating didn't work so had to stay in bed Food and ambience were good ... But let down by room Also they tried to charge for breakfast even although included at checkout Feel a bit letdown given the money spent and it was my partner birthday

I don’t say this often, or ever but have to credit Mar hall with being one of the few hotels I have stayed in which I would rate as exceptional. Amazing building and location, lovely staff and excellent service. I slept very well and the room was quiet and very comfortable.

The positives are- the staff. All very professional especially waiting staff. The spa and pool was very nice. The outside area is beautiful. The lounge is stunning. The food was excellent. Lovely ambience in the evening. My husband raised our issues on departure and this was well received and professionally handled. We would definitely come back - without the dog and after the refurb is done.

Mar Hall really is special with spectacular views across the Clyde and 249 acres of grounds. Cristal Restaurant is excellent and maybe not quite fine dining but pretty good and service good also. Dining in the bar is decent food but service tends to be a bit slower as restaurant seems to take preference over bar for drinks and kitchen orders. Lovely safe surroundings plenty parking and huge spacious rooms

We’ve stayed here before and it was excellent in every way. Not this time it was a junior suit on two levels first thing I noticed was how damp it felt then started to see all the wall very badly mark wallpaper coming appart carpet stains . Mould all round edges of carpet that made me feel sick….. bed felt really damp due to the dampness in the room Bed so hard not a good sleep at all Ended up getting ready to go home early even though it was a 12 o’clock check out Ive never ever experienced anything like this before room need redecorating new carpets and treating for the disgusting mould Linda lewis

View from our room and around the ground was the highlight of our stay. Hotel is dated, carpets were ruffled and not fitted which could cause a trip hazard. There was M&M sweets on our floor in the bedroom under the table that must have been missed by the cleaner. The rooms needed upgrading, stains on wall, ceiling and carpet. No usb sockets. We telephoned reception at midnight due to the level of noise from room next door, had to leave a message but no-one got back to us. Noise continued to after 3am. So either really noisy guests or poor sound proofing. Dinner was lovely but breakfast was over cooked and not the best. Definitely would not give a 5 star rating.

We stayed at Mar Hall for one evening at the beginning of our road trip and the staff at the hotel were excellent, really helpful and accommodating. The hotel itself however, whilst in a beautiful location, really isn’t worthy of 5 stars yet. We were contacted prior to arrival about dining reservations. The main lobby and bar area were grand! The breakfast room and options were generous and delicious! Our room was lovely and spacious - even though it was quite a long walk to our hallway.

Overall a lovely overnight stay but with a few minor operational niggles taking a little of the shine off. Room was lovely, spacious, clean and all the staff we interacted with throughout stay were very pleasant and well trained, and seemed like they cared. Food was very nice and in fact one of the party said it was the best dinner he had had in any Scottish hotel of this type. Overall we were talking about a return sometime.

Service wasnt what I would expect for this type of hotel. Went to the lounge bar and ordered a drink, the barman asked for our names to charge them to as our room wasnt ready. Left and went to check in at reception only to be persued through the grand hall and accused of not paying our drinks! At checkout wasnt asked how our stay was or anything or i would have brought this up. Disappointed

Property is undergoing extensive internal renovation which was not made clear on booking ( Nov 24). As a result several main areas were closed and relocated eg reception, dining room. Internal passages were rearranged making access to our room difficult. Staff coped well with this and were universally polite, courteous and professional.

Despite the average overall review the hotel has some nice points. Impressive main building and main public rooms. View from our room was very nice. Room itself was largish, comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Some rather random furniture and fittings. Good toiletries but poor refreshments (only instant coffee and cheap plastic bottled water not replenished during 3 night stay). Swimming pool and gym very good. Location quiet (apart from distant hum of the M8) and fairly convenient to access Glasgow by train from the local station about a 10 min drive, parking free). Away from the main public areas the carpets and general condition looked a bit tired. Food was ok rather than good. Scrambled eggs with breakfast was the high point. Our room wasn’t serviced on one day. Clearly the housekeeper had an accident spilling some liquid and in clearing this up (leaving a wet and dirty pillow case in the room) was distracted from completing the job. Some staff seemed shall we say a little unenthusiastic. A major part of the hotel’s business looks to come from weddings. Very quiet apart from this. At £200 a night I would expect better to be honest and hence only 3 stars.

Staff were incredible. Could not have been more helpful or accommodating. The whole place is so peaceful. The hotel was full, but you’d never have known that. Serene surroundings with incredible views. Great atmosphere for a relaxing escape. Spa was lovely!

Fabulous location with stunning views across the Clyde. Stayed overnight before a hospital appointment for my elderly mother at the Golden Jubilee Hospital. Only 12 minutes away across the Erskine Bridge. The staff did everything they could to support our needs. A fabulous accessible room, friendly service and lovely food. The hotel public areas are spectacular examples of Victorian architecture and design. The hotel is at the beginning of a refurbishment and will be stunning when finished. My fear is that we will no longer be able to afford it! Thanks to all the staff for helping my Mum feel welcome and relaxed before her hospital appointment.

Great place and location near the airport but wouldn’t know it. Grounds are great for walking. Food and bar were all good. The beds are comfy and clean. It is under remodeling and general construction. Lots of rain the whole time so we could not play golf. Our room had a few remodeling needs but I am sure they are on the list since it seems to be a thorough overhaul. Still a “castle” or manor house experience.

The hotel is nice, room was very big and comfortable for the price, leisure center is new with a large swimming pool. Value for money was excellent overall. However, food was disappointing. Breakfast was very average and dinner was one of my worst restaurant experience since a long time.

Did take seriously the one issue we had but no follow up, even though an injury happened (slid in shower) Food was on the whole good. Less care on breakfast when there was a quiet service. Think there was a sense this hotel is having a tough time still financially, and would benefit from some money spent on it, and just raising the levels just up a notch. That said, nothing bad and service generally very good I would absolutely visit again, but during spring summer early autumn.

Went for my wife's birthday but the experience was only average due to an extremely large and noisy wedding party. With the bar area full we were told we could get a bottle of champagne to take to our room by a very nice concierge (room service wouldnt answer the phone). We were then snapped at by a member of staff in a manner so rude it was almost comical and pretty much told to go away. Dinner was lovely and wedding free, however the noise from the wedding was very loud in our suite and kept my wife (who is terminally ill) awake. This situation was repeated at breakfast with the very loud wedding party dominating the space much to the detriment of other guests. Not sure if I would stay again based on this experience

What a brilliant stay! Mar Hall is gorgeous both inside and out and the staff are exceptional. They really made our stay as they were very friendly, but very professional. This is a bit of a hidden gem and we'll definitely be back. Thank you all.
