Casa del Balam Merida

Hotel tres bien placé. En plein centre de Mérida. La piscine est très bien idéal pour se rafraîchir en pleine ville. L’hôtel est un peu vieillissant. La chambre est bruyante. La clim de l’hôtel d’en face fait un bruit assez constant. Il y a un parking en supplément à 50 pesos par nuit ce qui est très raisonnable. Par contre très difficile à trouver. Le personnel ne parle pas très bien anglais.

This was a great central location. The pool was nice and refreshing. The room had a safe, small fridge and comfortable beds. Some fun charactoristics were the elevator and the tv remote!

The property is beautiful with a great courtyard. They had a guitar player in the mornings, which added to the ambiance. The pool is very nice and well-maintained, with many thoughtful touches throughout the hotel. Although it is an older hotel, it is impeccably cared for. The rooms and beds are comfortable, and the staff is super helpful. The location is perfect, situated on Calle 60 between La Plaza Grande and Parque Santa Lucia. Despite being on a busy street, we couldn't hear the city noise at night. Overall, it was a great experience.

The room was very nice. Clean, & all outlets worked. Staff is very responsive, & speaks English. Pool area was lovely. Location was close to restaurants & a little shopping, with coffee shop right across street. Restaurant downstairs was good!

The hotel use to be a family home that was renovated into a hotel with restaurant attached. The hotel has a lot of potential, with a courtyard and pool. With our stay which was almost a month, the pool was under going repairs, the parking was sometimes unavailable, the restaurant was undergoing expansions. Although not the hotel fault but roads in towns were all being transformed into a coble kind of look. However the dust from all of this, didn't seem to be cleaned daily. The courtyard is in dire need for a good power wash. They have issues with elevators as a few times out of order. Most of the staff was helpful and kind. The location is great to see all the sites. We did experience some of the completed area on Merida, which is very beautiful and clean. Maybe in a couple of years we will try again, not sure about stay at this hotel though.

Let me premise and say that I'm American and I liked this hotel, but my Yucatecan boyfriend did not appreciate it as his taste is more modern. I thought the place was great--I liked the older, historic look with the traditional openness. It rained every day so it was wet throughout but I didn't mind. Overall, the hotel and room were clean. Our room had a balcony overlooking the pool which I saw was cleaned every morning. We had a big room and big bathroom which were nice. Internet was spotty the first couple days on account for rain but we managed. It's located right downtown so lots of walkability to shops and restaurants. Staff was nice. Our only complaint was the parking was a bit of a nightmare. They partner with a lot nearby but the gate was often locked at night so my boyfriend had to make several trips to and from the lot to the hotel to get someone to open the gate. Parking came out to 25 pesos/day. Overall, I enjoyed it and I'm glad I chose it.

The rooms definitely need an upgrade. They advertise having WiFi, but it was very limited and totally unsecured. The location is perfect, but the construction on the road made walking difficult. The pool area was very nice and it was handy having a restaurant connected to the hotel.

Staff was excellent and it had quite a bit of charm and was clean. However there was a street party going on so I didn’t get to sleep at a decent time.

Las sabanas y las toallas estaban sucias, no habia agua caliente, pero eso si, los del front desk hicieron lo posible por ayudar.

There was no parking due to construction. The hotel’s answer was “you are on your own.” We drove around for a couple hours to find street parking. On the plus side, once we were at the hotel, a nice man named Reynaldo helped us find overnight parking for a fee. The hotel room smelled strongly of mildew. It was disgusting. The cleaning staff’s solution was to spray chemicals in the corner - which just made it worse. The best thing about the hotel is the location.

The hotel is beautiful and very clean. Staff is very friendly but the only complaint is the towels didn’t look clean had stains. We weren’t left any hand towels nor wash ones and no toiletries either.

The property was more run down than the photos show on the website. The room was pretty but dirty. One of our rokms didnt have ac, clean towels or a working shower. The staff were nice and the restaurant was very nice and served us by the pool. The hotel is in an excellent location however. Overall we would stay again.

Me encantó la propiedad. Adicional debo reconocer que el staff son súper amables y serviciales, siempre me hicieron sentir a gusto y atendida. La ubicación súper céntrica, tienes muchas cosas cerca y el precio fue lo mejor!!! Gran experiencia

El hotel está bien ubicado a 2 cuadras del zócalo La alberca no me gusta porque se me hace insegura no tiene azulejo y te puedes resbalar está honda para mi estatura , las toallas estás muy feas parece que no las lavan , no hacen un buen aseo , se ven pisos sucios de la habitación . El elevador es muy antiguo y te sientes insegura , mejor usamos escaleras . Lo único que me gusta es la buena ubicación

Erstes Zimmer dunkel, etwas muffig, nicht einladend (im alten Teil des Hotels). WiFi auf den Etagen kaputt. Wifi nur in der Lobby und im Restaurant. Man versprach mir für den nächsten Tag ein anderes Zimmer, mit besserem Empfang. Neues Zimmer sehr gut (im neuen Teil), aber kein Wifi. Als Kompensation bekam ich kostenloses Frühstück (einfach und mittelmässig) Das Personal war hilfsbereit, aber hatte keine Lösungen.Ist wohl eine Sache des Managements. So blieb nur die Lobby für Internet und WhatsApp - immerhin kam dort die Hotelkatze, um Trost zu spenden, und viele Mosquitos, aber die hatten andere Intentionen ...

The stay was ok. Room was clean but no Wi-Fi access, other than in the Lobby area.

This hotel has very good amenities but a building in a so-so condition. It’s a character hotel that needs to be renovated. The wi-fi is terrible. The bed could have been better. However I could not have asked for a better location. The property should be updated to be fully restored or modernized.

Location was great. Room had water spilling from the ceiling coming from the AC.

Rooms are tired and walls are thin. Could hear the guy next to us snoring all night. Neighbour had music on so loud they may as well have been in our room. When we first arrived, our room had no running water, then the 1st morning we had no hot water for a shower.

The first room was not good. Large gaps in the windows caused the street traffic to be unbearable in the evenjng snd night. Our room was on thd corner with 2 sets of windows. Then there was construction on the street.after indistkng we were moved up to a different room on the 6th floor. A bit better but the AC was more like a fan and very loud.

Excelente ubicación, las habitaciones muy limpias y comodas solo que me toco una habitación hacia la calle y habia demaciado ruido, hay dos antros muy cercas. Pero en si todo muy bien!!!

We went first week of Sept. weather was 90s and very humid. We weren’t able lower the temp in our room. It’s already preset, you’re only able to adjust the fan speed.

Booked and prepaid 12 day stay. Could not arrive on the 3-6 windows, tried check in next day. Refused a room, refused a refund. Awful service. Very dated hotel.

Hotel Casa del Balam - 3 Stars I recently stayed at Hotel Casa del Balam during my visit to Merida, Yucatán, and overall, it was a decent experience, though there were some aspects that could use improvement. First, the location is fantastic. It’s situated right in the heart of the city, making it easy to explore the local attractions, restaurants, and markets on foot. The architecture of the hotel is charming, reflecting the rich history of the region, which added to the overall ambiance. However, the service was a mixed bag. While some staff members were friendly and helpful, others seemed indifferent and not as attentive as I would have hoped. It felt like there was a lack of consistency in customer service, which detracted from the overall experience. The room I stayed in was comfortable, but it could use some updates. The furnishings felt a bit dated, and the bathroom amenities were basic. I also noticed that the Wi-Fi connection was spotty at times, which was a bit frustrating when trying to plan my daily activities. In summary, Hotel Casa del Balam has a lot of potential with its prime location and beautiful architecture, but it falls short in service consistency and room updates. It’s a solid choice for those looking for a convenient place to stay, but there’s definitely room for improvement.

The staff was amazing, from the front desk staff to the servers in the restaurant. They communicated very well with us despite the language barrier.

The Bell Hop went out of his way to help customers. One of the front desk representatives (seemed to be the one in charge) wanted nothing to do with helping me changing to a new room with a balcony (a window that opened). It was the same classification room but caused him extra work to switch rooms. He would have not done it if it had not been for the Bell Hop.

Don’t book a room in this hotel unless you are willing to risk wasting your money! I booked this hotel for two rooms, two nights through Expedia. I arrived at the hotel in the afternoon, 30 minutes after booking and paying for it through Expedia only to be told that there were no rooms available and that the person that does the check-in is only there during earlier in the day. I told the person at the counter that I had already paid for two rooms and needed a refund if they couldn’t let me stay. He said he couldn’t help me and that I needed to deal directly with Expedia because that’s were I had booked my stay. Within the hour I got in touch with an Expedia agent who said they would look into getting me a refund. I booked another hotel and stayed two nights in Merida. The day I left Merida, Expedia reached out to me to tell me that the hotel had strict guidelines, they refused to refund me the money saying it was hotel policy. If the hotel doesn’t accept last-minute reservations then they should not allow people to pay for them. Furthermore, the hotel refused to give me the rooms and still charged me. It’s already been a month since that happened and I have been unable to get a refund. Whatever you do, don’t risk booking a room here because if they can’t accommodate you, they will refuse to give you back your money. I’m so disappointed at Expedia and will never use it again. They clearly don’t have the consumer’s interest in mind and have a terrible customer service.

The staff is lovely, I like the the convenience of Bistrola 57 being on site. I love the antiqueness of the room and the grandness of the center courtyard. It's like staying in someone's home. Any time I come to Mérida, it's my go to hotel.

We have been staying at Balam for 5 years now when we have come to Merida. Staff are great, rooms and large and comfortable and the location is perfect. We highly recommend Casa Balam.

We had several inconveniences regarding our room, for one the tv was not working, phone was not working, even thou the hotel was kind of empty in terms or room occupancy, we were sent to the highest floor, prioritizing international guests.

Location was outstanding. We parked our car steps away from the entrance. The hotel is located near the best restaurants and a short walk from the main square.

We loved staying at property in the beautiful & vibrant historic district of Merida. Service was excellent. The atmosphere was warm & charming. The room & public areas are comfortable with attractive decor. The location is superb for walking to explore, dining options nearby are abundant & delicious. casa de la made our stay in Merida all the more wonderful during Dia de Muertos! We had a wonderful time and look forward to coming back

What is the best of a hotel? Location, location, location, and customer service. Casa del Balam has a great location, friendly staff, easy access to public transportation and taxis, walkable location to historic centro, restaurants in walking distance, it is dated, but very clean.

En el mero centro de Mérida

Hotel has some of the charm of Old Merida. Located downtown, walking distance from the Cathedral and Main Plaza. Rooms are a mix of original construction and some improvements, which they do not match the original architecture and style, taking away the charm of the room. One of these improvements is the bathroom, not the best work, bad the selection of tile and accessories. Bathroom tube is too difficult to get into for senior people, better would be a shower head only. Breakfast is served in the main patio, nice charming area. Good menu options served with fresh fruit, delicious.

Great location near the historical center. Spacious quiet room with old world charm. Great breakfast served in courtyard with very good service. Our trip included flying into Merida, staying here 3 nights, then exploring the Yucatán region and circling back to Merida for another 2 nights. We originally has planned to stay in a different nearby hotel on the last 2 nights but liked Casa del Balam so much we switched to stay here the last 2 nights.

Beautiful old Mexican feeling. Lovely courtyard area, small pool area but nice to relax there, staff super friendly and helpful. It’s less than a three minute walk to the Centro Historico square and another lovely park a block in the opposite direction with more fabulous restaurants as well, many fabulous restaurants such as Casa Maya within a couple of blocks as well, and lots of amazing shopping. Loved our time there. Room was a good size with modern bathroom and old Mexican feel, only complaint was that the air conditioning sometimes dripped at night and don’t think they ever came to fix it, but really liked the atmosphere overall. Great restaurant on the main floor where we had breakfast most days. It’s in the heart of the best area in Merida by the historical buildings and was so convenient! Highly recommend.

It was a good choice for our 3 day stay. Location is perfect, close to everything you’d want to see, and the added benefit of ample parking. Hotel itself is a bit tired, but this is reflected in the price and I consider it great value for what you get. We didn’t try breakfast as after waiting 20 mins on our 1st attempt we still hadn’t even been acknowledged or given a menu. We needed to print a document off and reception staff very helpful. Overall I’d recommend.

A convenient location near the best of what Merida has to offer. The hotel room was comfortable, and the courtyard and pool area was beautiful. Parking was included with an attended lot a few doors from the entrance. Staff was helpful and friendly. The hotel restaurant had great pizza and nice service. Excellent coffee shop located just across the street.
