We stayed two nights to play golf and visit St Albans. We booked dinner, bed and breakfast. Food was good, drinks not over priced, staff very attentive. Bed very comfortable and golf course a challenge.

Standing in its own grounds it was amazingly quiet with plenty of free car parking...the bedrooms were fine and for an extra £7 the full English breakfast a bargain...all around excellent value

We visited on New Year’s Eve and were disappointed to discover, upon arrival, that no food service was available that evening—something we should have been informed of in advance, given the lack of nearby restaurants. Additionally, a New Year’s event meant the bar was closed, and there was nowhere to sit and enjoy a drink, which was highly inconvenient. As a result, we had to leave the hotel to make alternative arrangements for the evening. The property is outdated and in need of refurbishment.

Should be a great hotel. The staff work hard but having a broken toilet in the bridal suite, is unacceptable. When reported on check out I was told they would look at it. Not a great customer experience. A lift out of order is another sign of what is happening at this hotel

Excellent, very good. Great room and friendly staff. Would stay again. Loved the setting and lots of parking. Only had breakfast there but that was tasty and plenty of it.

Poor mobile phone and hotel WiFi coverage in rooms on edge of hotel. Receptionist overworked, not present enough at reception. Breakfast opens late at 07:00 midweek, should be 06:30 for business workers. Breakfast serving staff stroppy and demotivated.

The staff were pleasant enough, but my overall experience was a little tarnished by everything else. There was a huge event happening the night I stayed and the car park was CHAOS. The bar was heaving and even though the event had it's own bar and they weren't meant to use the other one, they clearly did as at times there were queues out the door. I sat down for 45 minutes watching everyone else get orders taken and food served, so I was clearly overlooked, which wasn't nice. The room was nice enough, but the shower was very poor, pratically a trickle of water, not ideal.

The outside looks amazing , inside it needs some TLC. In the public corridors , wall paper peeling off , worn carpets . In the bathroom , shower screen not sealing so need to put towels down to soak up the water on the floor. No extractor fan working , so difficult to use the mirror after. No mirror above the dressing table . Scroll top wooden bed looks lovely , but constantly stubbing our toes in the protruding feet. Self service breakfast was over cooked and not hot . The fried eggs were rubbery and over cooked , the mushrooms must have had a pot of salt dropped in them .

The grounds are stunning and the room was spacious and clean. Only issues were scale in the kettle which was left at the bottom of your drinks and the remote for the TV not working.

Beautiful building, lovely setting, immaculately clean everywhere, lovely public areas & staff very helpful & friendly. It would benefit from continuous housekeeping assessment & maintenance in the bedroom areas though - our room was a lovely very large, front facing one but the bathroom sink plug mechanism was broken & part of one of the curtains was hanging off the rail. Little things matter! Whilst there they also seemed to be having a lot of trouble with their card key system. Two personal gripes: this huge room would have greatly benefitted from a king size or super kingsize bed; And why oh why do hotels insist on only providing those ridiculously small pods of semi-skimmed milk?! I would definitely stay here again though I'd take a small carton of full cream milk with me!

High ceilings, light from the many windows, spotless and very spacious with a lovely roll top bath. We ate dinner in the orangery, where the menu was small but the food was good. I stayed at the Shendish Manor for business. The room had recently been refurbished to a high standard and was immaculate. It was just a shame about the constant noise from other guests shouting down the corridor which was very echoey. Whilst the decor was good, being able to have a hot or even warm shower at 5am before I left for work would have been a benefit

Room was very cold. Air conditioning did not work. Convector heater in room (I assume as the air conditioning did not work) also would not turn on. This made for a very cold and uncomfortable trip on a cold January day.

Absolutely brilliant experience from beginning to end. All the staff were exceptional, especially the manager, Hugo , who went out of his way to make our stay of two nights as brilliant as it was. I would highly recommend this hotel for the comfort of its rooms ,its beautiful and extensive grounds and of course the staff.

The TV did not work, which in itself is not a big issue, however the door did not lock, after several phone calls to reception and 2 visits from the duty manager I was told he would have to use the master key to lock the door and I would have to ask reception to let me back in. I asked if I could change rooms to make my stay easier, but never got an answer.

Stay was nice until my birthday. Booked on check in extending 1 day as the package with Universal Studios was restricted at the time. Front desk clerk put it in for Thur night instead of Wed. Causing me to have to check out amongst my birthday activities and spending hours to find an alternative. This resulted in my being late to activity bookings and pretty much ruined my birthday. Also scheduled my package dinner for Wed night birthday and pre-paid and did not get refund even though their error. Really disappointed as the stay started out well. All because the front desk clerk clicked the wrong date. I even said no issue if they were sold out I had plenty of time at check in to find alternative. But 3 days later to find out he put wrong date and no rooms available.

Hotel was lovely and rooms were very clean. Staff were polite and friendly. Stayed here as we were doing a Harry Potter studios tour. Very convenient location and lovely gardens to walk around. Highly recommend 👌

The hotel itself is stunning and feels like it's truly in the countryside despite being not too far a distance from Hemel Hempstead, St Albans, Aylesbury, etc. The manor room was beautiful and very spacious with a comfortable bed. The food at the restaurant was also extremely good - we ended up eating there each night because of how tasty everything was. My only complaint is the water in the room - it would only last for about 1-2 minutes before stopping completely for about 4 or 5 minutes (no matter whether it was the sink, bathtub or shower) which was really inconvenient and annoying. I'm not sure if this is a regular occurrence or if there was some type of issue. Regardless, everything else was nice and we enjoyed our stay here.

Comfortable room, nice setting, not bad price. Only downside is it’s probably a 20 minute or so walk (partly along dark road) into Hemel, so if you don’t want to eat at the hotel you have to drive ( at least in winter). Oh, could have used some instruction how to use room facilities . I spent ages trying to get a walk mounted air con to work as the room was cold. Couldn’t get any hot air at all. Eventually I found a small portable electric heater in a corner of the room, so was ok, but the remote control for the air con was very confusing, I’ve no idea whether I was doing it wrong or whether the air con was broken.

Wonderful hotel. Secluded in beautiful surroundings. I was on foot and Google map had me walking across the golf course. Which was alarming. Spacious rooms. Well appointed. Really comfortable bed and usable shower. My only negative is the shower screen. Not a fan. Always leak. Quality towels and a rail that kept it toasty warm. You are at an advantage if you’re a driver. Not designed for pedestrians. The restaurant was fine. Good friendly service throughout the hotel. Stayed one night but would be happy to stay longer.

The outside looks amazing , inside it needs some TLC. In the public corridors , wall paper peeling off , worn carpets . In the bathroom , shower screen not sealing so need to put towels down to soak up the water on the floor. No extractor fan working , so difficult to use the mirror after. No mirror above the dressing table . Scroll top wooden bed looks lovely , but constantly stubbing our toes in the protruding feet. Self service breakfast was over cooked and not hot . The fried eggs were rubbery and over cooked , the mushrooms must have had a pot of salt dropped in them .

We stayed two nights to play golf and visit St Albans. We booked dinner, bed and breakfast. Food was good, drinks not over priced, staff very attentive. Bed very comfortable and golf course a challenge.

We visited on New Year’s Eve and were disappointed to discover, upon arrival, that no food service was available that evening—something we should have been informed of in advance, given the lack of nearby restaurants. Additionally, a New Year’s event meant the bar was closed, and there was nowhere to sit and enjoy a drink, which was highly inconvenient. As a result, we had to leave the hotel to make alternative arrangements for the evening. The property is outdated and in need of refurbishment.

One night stay in a beautiful spacious room, very clean, great location and setting next to the golf course. Facilities great, large dining room and lovely self service cooked breakfast and cold buffet too. Very enjoyable stay and will gladly stay here again in the future

Having spent the day travelling we came down to breakfast at around 8:50. We got the impression that they were clearing away breakfast around us. There was no fruit salad although my wife was offered an apple instead. The juice machine is awful and despite the note regarding pushing water though the machine, the quality of the juice was almost undrinkeable. There was no decaff coffee option other than sachets of instant coffee. In this day and age it is amazing that no thought has been given to this. Even cheaper establishments that use similar coffee machines have a decaff option. I cannot believe that you cannot provide a cafetiere for customers who have to avoid caffiene. It all really detracted from what would have been a pleasant stay. Needless to say we had to make sure we were down early the next day to ensure we didn't feel rushed out.

Great welcome at check in, smooth process. We stayed in one of the four poster rooms (room one) which was stunning. High ceilings, light from the many windows, spotless and very spacious with a lovely roll top bath. We ate dinner in the orangery, where the menu was small but the food was good. Breakfast was hot and of a good standard. Would definitely stay again.

They took £50 payment for nothing when we checked in, this wasn't mentioned at booking so be warned. The bed and matresses were covered in stains that they had tried to hide with an ill fitting matress cover. The bed was two singles pushed together so the sheet didn't fit and was too small to tuck in. This meant the matress protector and sheet both moved about all night and were very uncomfortable. We didn't have a coffee in the room as the water was cloudy. The toilet needed pumping to make it flush. The manager was never around to see to his customers, apparently he was busy! Would never go again and would definitly not recomend a stay at this hotel.

the room had clearly been previously used by a smoker. Cigarette butts put out on window sill and curtains smelling of stale smoke. curtains only held up by half of the curtain rail fixings. Hairs in bath and carpet not entirely clean

Arrived around 9pm so checked in without much fuss. Asked about charging point for vehicles but reception didn’t know. When asked in the morning they are getting some in was the offering. Room clean but tired. Very Alan Partridge in fact. Could be very nice but needs updating.

We stayed the night what looked like a weeding event, where it looked as though the carpets and stairs hadn’t been cleaned. Hangers left in our bathroom from previous guest, restaurant staff seemed inexperienced.
