Plenty of positives: high quality complementary toiletries, Dyson hair dryer, coffee machine & kettle, fresh milk & water provided, facilities downstairs were excellent and comfortable, food good, staff friendly and helpful. However, we were in a standard room which was not of the same standard. Shabby decor, small & cramped; only one chair, internal phone not working, WIFI unusable in room, bathroom sink didn’t drain and toilet ran constantly, poor shower. If you have any mobility issues you need to let them know before booking as there is no lift and we had a shower over bath.

Nice clean Hotel. The bar and restaurant are lite like a leisure centre which we found detracted from the atmosphere. Dining it the restaurant we had to ask twice for water, the waiter left the wine for us to open ourselves (screw top) and was unable to name the cheeses on the cheese board when it arrived, we had to then ask him to find someone who could. Dining in the bar we were directed to order at the bar where I waited 10 minutes for a member of staff to come from the restaurant. Other guests were also made to wait for someone to come and serve them. There should be a bell on the bar to indicate that people are waiting. Better training required here. The reception staff were excellent.

Hotel in lovely position and first impressions were excellent. We were greeted by reception and given the key to the "keepers" shepherds hut. This was in the grounds of the hotel and although small it was perfectly adequate for a couple of nights. Toiletries and towels provided as were tea and coffee making facilities. All very welcomed. The only downside were lack of full cutlery (only one fork provided) and the hotel advertise that a Dyson Hairdryer is provided in all rooms. Obviously not the case for the shepherds hut as we only had a cheap Babyliss one. We could also have done with a t-towel and cleaning bits to wash any cups/plates as no one checks or changes these during the stay. All in all though a pleasurable stay.

We stayed two nights in a very well appointed room which, despite being right next to the kitchen, was quiet and peaceful. The staff were, without exception, warm and friendly and other guests we spoke to, who were regular visitors to the chain, were very complimentary about all of the hotels. The grounds were a delight to walk in and the whole hotel a pleasure. If I were to criticise anything, it would be that I had to ask morning coffee to be made stronger and that my wife’s special diet meals were unimaginative. They met the brief, but were bland and boring. Nevertheless, we will definitely return as it was both a wonderful stay and convenient for us visiting a friend in Holt.
