Other than being worthy of IG shots, this hotel is all aesthetics, less function. The welcome drink was all ice. Just don’t bother. 65 valet was the most outrageous price I’ve ever stumbled upon in my entire traveling life. Highway robbery! No idea how they justify that. I found a garage 2 blocks down for $15 overnight! Welcoming staff less than welcoming. This location is meant to be the cool spot - the bar, the speakeasy at the back, the decor. The rooms are concrete and the floors in carpeted. You could easily hear the comings and goings of other guests due to poor sound insulation. The various amenities were all about design, not function. The modern hand held iron took 3x as long for me to press my clothes and was not effective. No in room coffee. The metal cart adjacent to the shower was corroded. Who puts a metal cart outside of a shower? The faucet handle at the sink pulled off upon use. All the lovely black fixtures were scraped and peeling. The surrounding area was uncomfortable. Other than tourists, no other pedestrians other than the disenfranchised of the community. Would not return. Would not recommend. For people looking to fill their IG with nice pics. All hype and image. No value or substance.

We just stayed at this Moxy location for the second time. We're always impressed with the location and the cleanliness of the rooms. Yes, they're small(er) but totally doable and comfortable. We love the bar downstairs and the games they have available to play. Only negative I have to say, I'm not sure if they've changed their parking location since the last time, but it took over 30 minutes to get and park our car. This was frustrating when we were on a tight schedule early in the morning. They only have one valet working and it doesn't seem to be a great process. There is room for improvement in this area, but everything else is great.

This was a great experience and friendly staff. The only tricky thing was parking. There's a lot across the street $55.00 for overnight. Besides that the bar in the lobby is very quaint, actually the whole lobby area is very nice and the gym is small but has quite a few options. I would stay here again.

The rooms were very clean but extremely small, with no drawers or storage beyond a few hooks. The bathroom looked trendy but had square toilet seats, which weren’t very comfortable. We had a small hiccup at check-in—while we didn’t expect the room before the official 4 PM time, the hotel’s system asked for our arrival time and promised a text when the room was ready. I don’t often write reviews but the Moxy San Diego Gaslamp bed was top 3 most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. Each day my husband and I woke up with back pain which was not fun for a trip we would be walking a lot. I’ve been a fan of Moxy hotels but now I don’t feel confident to book again because of how uncomfortable the bed was. It felt worse than a pullout couch mattress. Glad to be home now. Other than the bed the service and cleanliness was up to par and the bar staff was great. If you don’t mind an uncomfortable mattress, you’ll enjoy your stay for sure.

Room was nice but very small. If it didn’t have the small wall desk it would have been tough. No dresser. On a week long stay not having anywhere but wall pegs to hang clothes is tough. City view rooms face a really active nighttime street full of loud crowds. The hotel is nice and the staff are friendly. Just be aware of what you’re getting.

The City View rooms are very loud- partying until 1am. There is a DJ in the lobby/ bar until 1am as well. Room was tiny. Like really tiny. Bed and bedding not super comfortable. I’d say this hotel is best for a specific client but was not a good fit for me.

Property is very nice, & in an area packed with things to do. Naturally, this can make parking without the valet a major pain, but it’s possible with luck and/or patience. Bar check-in/out was different, my eyes didn’t notice either of the signs. Staff was very friendly all around

We had arrived for our anniversary & were greeted with unprofessional staff that had an attitude. Hesitant to answer our questions and keep in mind this is the first impression we have of the hotel so it’s really unfortunate to have spent our time here. Hope no one else encounters this treatment

Overall, we’ve always enjoyed our stays at various Moxy locations, but this one was in a terrible location. The staff that checked us in was very friendly but it went downhill from there. The property is in a filthy area of San Diego-the Gaslamp District. We had to watch every step so we didn’t walk into human feces, pee, trash or cockroaches. I have loved visiting San Diego for over 40 years, but the shine has definitely faded as addicts have taken over the streets. We were also kept up during all hours of the night by street racing behind the hotel, rude guests returning home from late night parties, and guests’ barking dogs. I will not be returning to this hotel or any in the near vicinity.

Drive time to the San Diego Zoo and the museums in Balboa Park is about ten minutes from the hotel. The staff is very friendly. A lot of very nice and helpful staff members. The hotel had a very NY / LA feeling. It did not get too loud in the hotel but the surrounding area (ie homeless folks and other ppl shouting and making a lot of noise at all hours of the night was very very unsettling).

I really enjoy staying at this hotel because it close to all the restaurants and bars in gaslamp. Parking was easily accessible, the check in process was quick, and the free cocktail they provided upon check in was delicious. The lobby is very modern and has board games to play. The overall environment was very inviting for young couples looking for a place to stay close to the party

San Diego was so beautiful some 15-20 years ago. Lots of homelessness now in the area surrounding the Moxy. I hope the city council steps in and cleans it up. But if you go to little Italy which is a few blocks from the Moxy, it starts looking better and family friendly, too. The closer you get to the harbor, the better it gets.

The rooms were very clean but extremely small, with no drawers or storage beyond a few hooks. The bathroom looked trendy but had square toilet seats, which weren’t very comfortable. We had a small hiccup at check-in—while we didn’t expect the room before the official 4 PM time, the hotel’s system asked for our arrival time and promised a text when the room was ready. We never received one until after we’d already checked in, which made the offer feel unnecessary. That said, staff were friendly and stored our bags, which we appreciated. The location in the Gaslamp Quarter is excellent and makes it easy to get around, though city-view rooms do come with some road noise (which we expected). There’s a bar downstairs, but we found the drinks overly sweet. We stayed here one night. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly bartender and checked in. The lobby was cute and funky and we felt pretty optimistic. Then we went up to our room- if you can even call it that. It was more like a closet. The blowdryer was broken, fixtures were old, and our heater didn’t work. We ended up going out and when we came back we were pretty hungry, but unfortunately their kitchen was closed and there was no room service available. So we went to bed cold and hungry. The bed was rock hard and you can feel the springs. The only positive for us was the location. We were so surprised that this was a Marriott establishment- usually they hold their hotels to a higher standard. They also charged $60 for overnight valet. Will not be staying again.

AMAZING! Staff was super friendly and the room was so clean/adorable. LOVED the bathroom. The only thing is the room didn't have a fridge and I had so many leftovers. If you stay you have to try the Moxy drink its delicious.

Loved the vibe, decor, & location. Relaxing and inviting atmosphere. The hotel is close to many restaurants which proved invaluable when I had to find a place to eat late at night. The only hiccup was they said the kitchen was open until 10pm when we checked in. When we went to order some food, they closed it early. So at 9:40pm I was unable to order food.

Great location. Downtown bars, restaurants, pretty much everything is walkable. Decent hotel for singles. It’s also nice that the hotel offered one free drink at the bar.

I expected the room to be small and didn’t mind that. The shower was amazing but leaked out the door. Service is what you may expect from a bartender. The front desk clerk/bartender told me he couldn’t make change for me to tip the valet. What?! The coffee station was appreciated but was not attended and often had no coffee or sugar.

Loved my stay at the Moxy! 🏨✨ Perfect downtown location — super walkable to bars, food, and fun 🎉. The rooms are compact but modern and spotless 🛏️👌. Great prices for the area 💸. Only downside: drinks at the bar were a bit pricey 🍸💰… but no worries, there’s a liquor store just down the street 🍾😎. Would definitely stay again!

This was a great experience and friendly staff. The only tricky thing was parking. There's a lot across the street $55.00 for overnight. Besides that the bar in the lobby is very quaint, actually the whole lobby area is very nice and the gym is small but has quite a few options. I would stay here again.

The worst day I’ve ever had at this hotel the staff was rude not helpful. Could never bring us anything to the room. Nothing was stocked in my room and I checked in and the check-in process was really slow. I’m really disappointed.
