The staff was great, very friendly. Location was also great, easy walk to many sites. The hotel is under renovation so there was a lot of drywall dust and debris in the hallway. The construction crew was not neat and did not pick up after themselves. Also did not discover that there is no elevator or air conditioning until the day before arrival. Not a huge deal, large fan in the room kept us cool. However, there were forty steps up several narrow staircases to our room. It was quite the challenge with luggage. We are older but in fairly good shape. I would not recommend for those who are elderly and cannot negotiate many very steep stairs.

No elevator! Stairs are steep and narrow. Front desk very kindly took our luggage up and down, but the stairs were formidable. If you are older and have any mobility issues, best find something else.

The staff at the hotel was absolutely EXCELLENT. When we asked for something they did it instantly not 10 minutes later. The only drawback to this hotel is NO elevator. If you are young and healthy or if you can lock in a lower floor room like we did this hotel is a GREAT choice.

Ok, yes, the air conditioning and lifts are not working due to renovation, but they make that clear before you arrive. The stairs are the narrow historic stairs seen in the canal side homes/hotels, so if ya have a lot of luggage or heavy luggage, request a lower floor..But the staff that we encountered when we checked in were so helpful! The personal touches were delightful. The location is great, the room we were in was so spacious, and the view from our room was amazing! Hope we can afford to come back when renovations are done! Thanks!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in Amsterdam. The hotel was lovely however as there is currently work getting done/ renovations, so there were a few teething issues. The hotel was very noisy; drilling and sawing could be heard all throughout the day and from early morning (8am). The rooms are not quiet as every time someone opens and closes their door you can hear a loud slam. You can also hear every time people are walking up and down the stairs. The notice says to be considerate between 10pm and 8am and other hotel stayers were not considerate of this. Couple of issues when we first got there as builders kept on coming in to our room unannounced as they had a key card. We didn’t feel like we had a lot of privacy from this point of view. The shower leaks on to the floor so you have to have a towel down. House keeping also is not a consistent time and knocked at 4pm as we had just arrived back in the room from a day out to which we had to say no to, therefore our room did not get cleaned for the last day. Overall we certainly would stay here again. The location was amazing! We felt very sad to leave. It is certainly a hotel we would recommend to stay once all the work has been completed.

To start off the hotel sent me a letter 5 days before arriving that the hotel has no elevators which i was aware of as it said it on the property description, however the letter sent said the hotel has no AC which is fine if we had been told since the beginning but sadly we were not informed of this which is truly unacceptable and unprofessional for the price paid compared to other hotels around the area that had way better prices and had AC and were even closer to DAM square. My mistake was booking this hotel. Additionally when I received the letter I immediately contacted the property and started complaining how my husband is asthmatic and we can’t stay at a property that has no AC as he starts having shortness of breath they didnt care and just said they weren’t giving a refund that theres a fan in each room , that my reservation is non refundable. I understand that its non refundable but if we would’ve known theres no AC is ok. But we were NOT aware of this. Dont stay here .. All they care about is there money not how there clients or potential clients feel. Also the hotel is under renovations so at 9am you will start hearing noise and banging from lower floors which is impossible to sleep. Hotel is not as clean as it feels dusty and floor in rooms feel dirty when you walk barefoot. And to finish i left the do my room sign outsidemy door and when i got back the sign was turned around to the do not disturb and my room was not made nor we got new towel.

The floor in our room was not clean and the wardrobe was a bit wobbly! We would have benefitted from having a mirror in the bedroom and some sort of surface on which to put our toiletries by the bathroom sink. When our room was cleaned, the towels were not replaced, despite us leaving them in the shower tray. On the plus side, the reception staff were mostly very helpful, the location was quiet, and we appreciated the complimentary snacks and drinks. We had to ask for help with bringing our suitcases down the steep stairs, but this wasn't a problem.

The Hotel is unreasonably expensive and not close to beeing a 4 Star Hotel. No propper light in the rooms - only one lamp for the entire room. Asked for more but they didn't have any. No daily cleaning even though they advertise it and we asked for it - still didn't happen. Worst of all - ants in the room and we both got bedbugs to take home. Horrible experience! Please don't stay here - it SO hard to get rid of bedbugs once they are in your house.

Inexpensive and centrally located hotel on Keisersgracht in Amsterdam, but there is nothing boutique about it. It is dark, worn, damp, noisy – and with little personal service. The receptionist who checked me in was more interested in her phone than in me. I chose the hotel for the location (I attended a conference at Felix Meritis next door) and would choose it again for the same reason. But I would not stay here again otherwise. And yes ... the shower drain was cloggeed when I arrived and the bathroom floor was flooded. Quick response from the reception fixed the problem – but did not clean the shower afterards so it was smelly and full of dirt. On the positive side; free water and coffee in the reception.

The hotel was charming, housekeeping was terrible. We had to ask for clean towels, floor was never vacuumed, cob webs on the lighting fixtures and in the corners, hallways wreaked of cigarette smoke (non smoking facility), and butts in the hallways. There was no iron or hair dryer as advertised, outlets require converters (it should have mentioned that), and the staff did not offer to help with luggage, knowing it was a steep climb. I knew I was not staying at the Ritz Carlton but a little effort would go a long ways. The staff ruined the experience.

A Quirky hotel wi5h a great location. We had a canal view room which had beautiful bug windows thay ipened up. The room itself was small, to be expected in a hiayorical building. Its in beed of some TLC though, floora in rough shape, walls need paintin, the bathroom smelled moldy, the caulk all around needs to bw replaced. The fosset lwaked and plumbing was held together by ducktape. Overall the hotel needs a refresh, its tired and not very clean when you take a close look. Free coffee, snacks and water in the lobby all throughout was appreviated, though there is limited lobby seating. Personel was friendly and helpful. Overall a decent stay to be right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam

The floor of our room was filthy and made me wonder about the cleanliness of other surfaces. The wallpaper was peeling off the wall, the radiator wouldn’t turn off, and our ceiling leaked during a rainstorm one night, which was our “final straw”. The night staff was apologetic and tried to find us another room, but the hotel was fully booked. Overall, definitely not worth €200 per night, I encourage you to look elsewhere.

The room was certainly stylish and nicely decorated, although not very spacious, but the lack of air conditioning was a problem as the room was far too hot. I discovered a previous guest's clothing in the wardrobe, indicating it had not been properly cleaned/checked. The main issue was the noise. While there was no traffic noise, the single-glazed windows meant that aeroplanes going over were quite loud. The main problem however was that there was no insulation against noise from the corridor and staff chatting and singing in the reception and entrance hall was clearly audible, and disturbed our stay. The wooden stairs right outside the room meant anyone going up or down made a real racket. A nice hotel, but not a peaceful stay.

This was the worst hotel experience of my life. Under no circumstances would I recommend staying at this hotel. I checked in on Saturday and was informed that the Wi-Fi wasn’t working and they were trying to fix it. It soon became clear that they couldn’t resolve the issue. On Sunday I asked to cancel my remaining reservation and move to another hotel. Hotels.com tried to assist, but the staff said they needed the manager’s approval. Hours later, they said they couldn’t reach the manager and provided me with an email address, explaining that I had to try contacting her. Later, I realized they were reading the emails in front of me, which the manager was clearly not checking. This was blatant mockery. Hotels.com also tried to contact them, but they ignored calls and emails. As the discussion turned unfriendly, I left the hotel and returned late at night only to sleep. On Monday I was told the manager would arrive around 2 PM. When I returned, a young woman was sitting nearby. I asked the receptionist if the manager was present, and they said she hadn’t arrived yet. After waiting for about an hour and a half, the young woman, who turned out to be the manager, approached me in a very unprofessional manner, saying, “I heard you have a complaint; you can talk to me now.” I was shocked to realize I had been lied to and asked why. She admitted it was her instruction! This was one of the most unprofessional behaviors I’ve ever encountered. This hotel clearly lacks basic customer care

Great location, good size room. The area the hotel is located was great and fairly quiet. The inside of the hotel was a little run down but that was fine. The reason we chose this location is because we wanted to be able to sleep at night after going out. Well we were NOT able to sleep. The hotel was VERY NOISY, and we could tell when our neighbors got home because we could hear them ALL NIGHT LONG, and SMELL WHAT THEY WERE SMOKING. I WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN and would discourage anyone who values sleeping from staying here as well.

Overall great. Service was very good and friendly. Our room was on the second floor. When people were talking in the lobby/reception on the ground floor, I could hear it at night. Our room also had a little door which led to utilities. It was buzzing every night. This made it a bit difficult to fall asleep at night.

Hotel muito bem localizado, bonito, limpo, arrumado, silencioso, climatizado. A recepção foi ótima e sempre tem à disposição maçãs, snacks, água e café. As escadas são as mesmas de todas as casas (estreitas, mal cabem os pés), mas fazem parte da experiência. O quarto é pequeno, mas com pé direito alto e janela enorme com a vista do canal e das luzinhas das outras casas, o que é um charme. Tem televisão, frigobar, máquina de café e chaleira elétrica. O banheiro é grande e a água quente. Climatização excelente. This hotel is an updated, old (of course) building in a truly fabulous location. The room was fine -- it was clean and comfortable, and pretty spacious, esp considering the location. The staff we interacted with were all very helpful, including carrying one of our suitcases up two flights of stairs when we arrived. (We had requested a high floor, even though we knew there was no elevator, so we thought her help was above and beyond.) I can't understate how great the location is among the charming traditional cobblestone streets and canal bridges, with proximity to great shopping and restaurants, and walking distance to Anne Frank House, and the Rijks and Van Gogh Museums. Plus a fantastic restaurant is almost next door to the hotel: Restaurant de Struisvogel. Strongly recommended!

Lovely hotel with excellent staff. We especially loved the welcome ambassador cat, Casey. Also appreciated the espresso machine in the lobby. Our room was super spacious and comfortable, clean and quiet. I would definitely stay there again.

Great place to stay in a great part of Amsterdam. Staff was very friendly and helpful. You can walk to everything. It’s right on a beautiful canal. The room was a pretty good size with very comfortable beds. Everything was clean. We loved it.

We had a terrible experience. An employee entered our room and stole our cash and cards while we were away within 24 hours of checking in. We left the do not disturb sign, but that didn't stop their employee with keycard access to go into our room and go through our things. There is video evidence and we have a case open with the Amsterdam police to get to the bottom of this. We had to stop our holiday to go deal with management, the police and having to go to the police station to file a report. The bed was also broken and sunken in on one side. The only 'boutique' thing about this place is the premium price. Do yourself a favor and find a safer spot.

When I stated that I had already provided all of that information, the staff member started yelling and saying that if it was not clear that it was not the same person that had assisted us in the morning and we needed to do it again. We loved our stay here. It was such a great location. Our room was large, the beds were comfortable, and the staff were helpful and friendly. They provide coffee, tea, and filtered water for free in the lobby. If you stay, don’t miss Wolf Bakery only 1/2 a block away.

While the hotel was nice and check in effortless. When I made the booking it should have been noted that major national holiday was occurring the day we were leaving and car transport world be impossible to the airport. Rather than missing our early flight the following day we left a day early to assure we could be at the airport. Unlike other Expedia listings that usually give this warning. The grand canal boutique hotel did not. They provided no apologies and were rather rude that we didn’t know. We booked this room months I’ve been to Amsterdam dozens of times. And honestly this will be my last the the city has changed. Kindness and genuine concern for guests seems to be gone. We were traveling with friends who stayed at other hotels though they booked non refundable rates through Expedia they were refunded a night stay for leaving early to be able to be at the airport and not stranded. This is something this hotel should have made aware when booking the dates we did. Lesson is do your research a bit more. I’ve been in other cities in Europe during holidays but never experienced something like this. Fortunately Amex is charging back the night we didn’t use direct from the hotel. But was such a a headache. Nice hotel but dishonest in their listing. Shame on this property.

Very nice property situated in a gorgeous area, walking distance to tons of shopping and restaurants. We had no problem getting all over the city from the location. It took a moment to get used to the very steep stairs but that adds to the charm of the property. We also enjoyed the little cat that lives there! The staff was helpful and polite. We also appreciated the complementary snacks for guests. The room overall was nice and clean. We were provided with clean towels every day. Would recommend or stay here again!

The location is beautiful, right by one of the canals, a medium length stroll to Dam Square and it'll only take you a total of 16 mins if you want to continue walking all the way to Centraal Station. There are obviously a ton of dining options being that you are in the centre of town. You are also within walking distance of many museums and other sights. The only minor thing was the steep stairs inside the hotel and the fact there is no lift. I didn't mind so much, only being on the second floor, but I can imagine if you come with a large party including some who aren't super mobile. This might then be a little challenge with luggage. That aside, the staff were friendly, the room was large and good and the location was perfect. Would recommend.

Personale molto cortese e disponibile. La possibilità di prendere snack e frutta gratuitamente oltre a the e caffè nella hall non è da tutti ed è stata molto apprezzata. Camera nella norma con letto comodo, forse c'è da rivedere come oscurare meglio le finestre perché non sempre le tende erano sufficienti. Ottima posizione per girare a piedi la città e i punti di interesse più famosi.

Great location for the trams and metro but also right in the center so easily walkable. My room was quiet and dark and slept amazingly well after busy days. The complementary coffee and fruit was a really lovely touch. Highly recommend this hotel unless you have mobility issues as it's an old house there are lots of stairs but no lifts,

We had a 1 night stay in this lovely hotel! For us it was a great location, a few streets from the train station and main square but central to walking to Anne Frank House and Rijksmuseum, in a quieter part of the city center. The front desk was very friendly and welcoming! They offered coffee and snacks upon arrival. The room had a mini fridge with complimentary drinks. Keep in mind if you are going to stay in/near the city center most hotels do not have an elevator and will have stairs that are a bit steep to climb. I believe the hotel informs guests when booking about the stairs. If that is not a problem, i would highly recommend thos hotel for your trip to Amsterdam!!!

The room was very nice and clean. The hotel lobby is welcoming and had tea, coffee, water, and snacks available. The hotel was off of a beautiful canal and easy to walk pretty much anywhere.

Expedia listing was misleading as photo was nothing like the property, breakfast was not included and local tax was payable on arrival. Having said that it was a nice little hotel, well situated in a quiet street within easy walking distance of a couple of good restaurants and good links to public transport to and from train station and airport. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was available if pre booked the day before, then it was delivered to your room. Complimentary coffee, tea and snacks available in reception was a nice bonus.

Hotel muito bem localizado, bonito, limpo, arrumado, silencioso, climatizado. A recepção foi ótima e sempre tem à disposição maçãs, snacks, água e café. As escadas são as mesmas de todas as casas (estreitas, mal cabem os pés), mas fazem parte da experiência. O quarto é pequeno, mas com pé direito alto e janela enorme com a vista do canal e das luzinhas das outras casas, o que é um charme. Tem televisão, frigobar, máquina de café e chaleira elétrica. O banheiro é grande e a água quente. Climatização excelente. Não tem café da manhã (oferecem no quarto por um valor extra), mas com infinitos cafés ao redor, melhor conhecer a vizinhança que tem muitas opções.

The property was just dirty. The floor was dusty and all surfaces felt grimy or had obvious dirt/ stains. The bed dipped in the middle from excessive use, and the pillows might as well have not been there which caused massive discomfort. Had it not been for the location, we would not have stayed here. The only positives were that it felt very secure and was easily accessible. The other reviews stating that the walls are thin were… not joking. We had been check in an hour when next door to the hotel started “having a great time” and we heard it all! Every time someone went up or down the central staircase we heard it. Wouldn’t recommend unless they start cleaning the property and ditch the dated decor!

amazing stay here! me and my boyfriend stayed here for 3 nights,great service. room was tidy and less than 10 minute walk from central attractions from Amsterdam. Neighbourhood felt safe ,and the hotel was clean and had a lovely welcome area with free snacks and drinks which were replenished regularly. They also offer a luggage storage for after your stay. Would recommend!

Hotel was in a good location. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. However We were located in the first room which meant that we were on the front of the building and in the mornings it was very loud. You could hear outside of the window and anyone coming in and out of the building or talking in reception. Lighting in the room was not the best as we had to shut the curtains due to being right on the front.

Hotel was in an excellent location. Clean and facilities were good. Staff were very helpful and very accommodating. Loved the coffee and water machine and snacks to help yourself to in reception - a really nice touch.
