This was an amazing experience-beautiful home and room in an historical house. The included breakfast that was hosted in a wonderful mansion several blocks away was incredible, as was the tour afterwards.

Steele Cottage was a charming, well kept, and very clean place to stay. We rented MaeMae's room and liked how it was apart from the other rooms. We also enjoyed having breakfast at the Duff Green Mansion along with touring this home. This was included in the price. We would highly recommend staying here.

Surprised no one there to greet us, Doorbell said some come soon. Hot, so finally went to shade in back & called so at least 20 min in hot weather before we could check in. Rented thru hotels.com so surprised not private bath but worked out since only ones renting, Breakfast/tour at Duff Green home excellent, Place was excellent except for welcome challenging & no private bath. Suggest marking all 3 keys for place so know bath, bedroom, front door apart. We enjoyed our stay, a highlight with added Duff Green house breakfast/tour.

We stayed in Mae-Mae's Room at the Steele Cottage and it was great for our needs. Well appointed, conveniently located and easily accessible, yet removed from the core downtown area for privacy. The breakfast service at the Duff Green Mansion B&B was good for a first morning, but the 3+ block walk is not directly toward the main part of downtown and the river. I suggest equipping the Steele Cottage with bottled waters and snack items in each room for optimal convenience.

We had a delightful stay! We were headed to Jackson but I couldnt find a place there worth booking. So, at the last minute, I found the Steele Cottage. As we had booked late, we had to call to get check-in details. Very easy. Our room, the JM Swords, was nice with a queen sized bed that was high off the floor. Glad they had a step to help get me up there. Our bathroom was across the hall. I was not used to using a clawfoot tub with a sprayer, but it worked out well. If this type of bathing is not for you, I suggest pucking one of the rooms with a shower. The meeting room was great, stocked with beverages and a good amount of seating. The best part was the breakfast at the Duff Green mansion. It was a three-course breakfast served around a big table with the other guests. We had an entertaining breakfast getting to know the guests, followed by a house tour. The ladies that work at these two places are outstanding! They go above and beyond to make your stay pleasant. I highly recommend this place. But, if you are willing to spend a little more, check out the Duff Mansion.

The breakfast, staff, and tour of the Duff Green Mansion were the highlights. Short walk (5-7 minutes) from Steele Cottage to Duff Green for the breakfast and tour. The staff at Duff Green Mansion are what really made this a trip to remember. Tonya gave us a tour of the mansion after a great breakfast and good company with other guest at the table, and she was excellent and could have spent most of the day just talking with her and the rest of the touring group. And it was nice to meet her son, who showed us his favorite picture in the home during the tour. Walnut Hills is directly across the street and was nice for dinner (recommend the fried chicken). Only real complaint was the cleaning crew did not leave enough towels.

If you’re wondering what it’s like to stay in a house almost 200 years old, this is the perfect solution. The property is decorated in period furniture and really gives you a sense of another period in history. Location is ideal for visiting Vicksburg sites as well. The breakfasts at Duff Green were awesome also.

I like the check in process, but I was not aware of the bathroom situation. I am a bit older and need to be closer to the bathroom. I was impressed with the sleeping accommodations.

What a welcome sight after a long drive! Steele’s Cottage is situated on the heights above Vicksburg’s riverfront and the Mississippi River, in a quiet leafy setting. The cottage is an attractive classic, as was our comfortable room - Mrs. Steele’s Bedroom. We’ll long remember our good night’s sleep, tasty dinner at Rusty’s Riverside Grill, and pleasant breakfast in the elegant Duff Green Mansion. A highly recommended experience!

Our stay was actually in the mansion, and not the cottage. We loved it so very much. The staff is fantastic. So very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The breakfast was amazing. We only have wonderful memories from our stay there, and would not hesitate to go back.

I loved the decor inside the home. The place really made it feel like our hoke away from home. The breakfast was amazing! The hospitality was also wonderful. We will be back next year. Thanks again for allowing us to stay and being so patient with us!

The bed was comfortable but the location was too far from the main residence for breakfast. The breakfast was underwhelming. They had a wedding party in the house & we felt that we were an afterthought. Also they need a curtain in the bathroom window. We will not stay here again or recommend it to anyone.

Surprised no one there to greet us, Doorbell said some come soon. Hot, so finally went to shade in back & called so at least 20 min in hot weather before we could check in. Rented thru hotels.com so surprised not private bath but worked out since only ones renting, Breakfast/tour at Duff Green home excellent, Place was excellent except for welcome challenging & no private bath. Suggest marking all 3 keys for place so know bath, bedroom, front door apart. We enjoyed our stay, a highlight with added Duff Green house breakfast/tour.

We had a delightful stay! We were headed to Jackson but I couldnt find a place there worth booking. So, at the last minute, I found the Steele Cottage. As we had booked late, we had to call to get check-in details. Very easy. Our room, the JM Swords, was nice with a queen sized bed that was high off the floor. Glad they had a step to help get me up there. Our bathroom was across the hall. I was not used to using a clawfoot tub with a sprayer, but it worked out well. If this type of bathing is not for you, I suggest pucking one of the rooms with a shower. The meeting room was great, stocked with beverages and a good amount of seating. The best part was the breakfast at the Duff Green mansion. It was a three-course breakfast served around a big table with the other guests. We had an entertaining breakfast getting to know the guests, followed by a house tour. The ladies that work at these two places are outstanding! They go above and beyond to make your stay pleasant. I highly recommend this place. But, if you are willing to spend a little more, check out the Duff Mansion.

If you’re wondering what it’s like to stay in a house almost 200 years old, this is the perfect solution. The property is decorated in period furniture and really gives you a sense of another period in history. Location is ideal for visiting Vicksburg sites as well. The breakfasts at Duff Green were awesome also.

The bed was comfortable but the location was too far from the main residence for breakfast. The breakfast was underwhelming. They had a wedding party in the house & we felt that we were an afterthought. Also they need a curtain in the bathroom window. We will not stay here again or recommend it to anyone.

We stayed in Mae-Mae's Room at the Steele Cottage and it was great for our needs. Well appointed, conveniently located and easily accessible, yet removed from the core downtown area for privacy. The breakfast service at the Duff Green Mansion B&B was good for a first morning, but the 3+ block walk is not directly toward the main part of downtown and the river. I suggest equipping the Steele Cottage with bottled waters and snack items in each room for optimal convenience.

What a welcome sight after a long drive! Steele’s Cottage is situated on the heights above Vicksburg’s riverfront and the Mississippi River, in a quiet leafy setting. The cottage is an attractive classic, as was our comfortable room - Mrs. Steele’s Bedroom. We’ll long remember our good night’s sleep, tasty dinner at Rusty’s Riverside Grill, and pleasant breakfast in the elegant Duff Green Mansion. A highly recommended experience!

The breakfast, staff, and tour of the Duff Green Mansion were the highlights. Short walk (5-7 minutes) from Steele Cottage to Duff Green for the breakfast and tour. The staff at Duff Green Mansion are what really made this a trip to remember. Tonya gave us a tour of the mansion after a great breakfast and good company with other guest at the table, and she was excellent and could have spent most of the day just talking with her and the rest of the touring group. And it was nice to meet her son, who showed us his favorite picture in the home during the tour. Walnut Hills is directly across the street and was nice for dinner (recommend the fried chicken). Only real complaint was the cleaning crew did not leave enough towels.

Steele Cottage was a charming, well kept, and very clean place to stay. We rented MaeMae's room and liked how it was apart from the other rooms. We also enjoyed having breakfast at the Duff Green Mansion along with touring this home. This was included in the price. We would highly recommend staying here.

Check in was super easy with a lockbox to open main door and another to open our room. We received the email with all of the instructions shortly after booking. Room was clean and bed super comfy. House was quiet. The main house is .03 miles away- easy 5 minute walk. We did go down to have a glass of wine at 5 and get recommendations for restaurants. Several restaurant options within walking distance. We also went to several of the historic sites and the mural wall (must see)! Breakfast was outstanding! 3 courses started with a bowl of fruit and homemade biscuit drizzled with honey then a bowl of cheese grits with egg, steak and gravy - delicious! Last course we had pound cake with fresh strawberries and cool whip with chocolate sprinkles! The taste and presentation was amazing and the staff so attentive! We enjoyed our stay and would stay again! Highly recommend!

I was absolutely charmed to find this beautiful little cottage close to downtown Vicksburg. It appears that the same management runs the Duff Greene mansion nearby. That is where breakfast and the welcoming glass of wine are served. Anyway, still cottage has three rooms on the street level as well as a lovely little lounge. They were very welcoming of my dog who also helped felt right at home and was on her best behavior I guess because it felt like home. It’s right on the historic walking trails in Vicksburg, which was a nice little perk as well. The only thing I would change about this spot is to upgrade the mattresses and pillows. They are very definitely in the OK range. That said, I will very likely stay here each time I make this annual trip.
