I always love staying at the HRO! They've done a marvelous job renovating and updating the property. Each time I come back (continental breakfast and a community room with a pool table this time!), I like to see the progress they've made. The staff are so friendly and helpful.

I booked this night as a mom’s night away but ended up not even staying for the full night. Everything leading up to the stay was so impressive in terms of communication, ease of check in/out, amenities listed, but the actual experience was very lacking. The carpet was damp around the AC window unit and it felt uncomfortable walking around the room without shoes on. I ended up booking another hotel after an hour or so because the mildew and smoke smell was so overwhelming. The pictures online and the amenities listed were so promising but the experience just felt like a typical motel stay but with bright colors.

The floors of the room were really dirty and the furniture looked worn out.. The room also smelled like cigarettes. Overall, it was not worth the $150 I paid to stay there for the night. The hotel rooms should be $70 max.

Very clean and eco friendly hotel. Excellent location and awesome staff. Only suggestions would be to have butter at breakfast for the bagels (not everyone eats cream cheese) and Splenda or stevia for coffee (not everyone uses sugar). Otherwise, no issues and will gladly stay again ❤️

I really liked this hotel! The desk staff were very nice during check-in, breakfast, check-out, and when I was in the lobby waiting for rides. The room was clean and comfortable and had everything I would need or expect--fridge, microwave, iron, etc. The room was quiet and restful.

This was my second stay and while I paid for the same type of room as the first time, this room was a downgrade. The room was very stuffy and smelled as if it needs an air purifer. The first room has a nice wall unit for air and heat. This room had a broken wall ac unit and the heat was not reliable. The bathroom had hair in it, and the sheets had a blood looking stain on it. I wish the room was kept up to basic standards because I really did enjoy my first stay and the location. Not sure I will return

In a nice safe area, the outdoor seating was very cool! My room had a weird sliding bathroom door that didn't shut all the way! Room was not clean. Spiders all over. Would not return.

The rooms are charming, the beds are very comfy, the sheets are great, the staff are wonderful, and the amenities (great coffee in the rooms) mostly great - with the sole exception of the wi-fi. I've stayed here often in many different rooms in different locations around the Hotel, and the wi-fi is consistently weak. At peak times it's basically unusable, forcing me to use my hot spot instead. In this day and age, it's really not acceptable not to provide decent (if not spectacular) wi-fi for these prices. This is not Motel 6, after all.

The hotel was clean and has had a nice renovation. The bathroom and shower was nice along with nice decor. The bed was a little stiff and uncomfortable for my liking and the worst part is the HVAC system it runs every 5 minutes no matter what you set the temperature at and is loud making it nearly impossible to sleep.

Stayed here for a concert at Royal Oak Music Theater. The staff I interacted with were helpful and friendly. My room was clean and comfortable. The bed was a little firm but still pretty good. When I returned to the hotel it looked like the front office turns into a little lounge and serves drinks. Definitely would stay here again.

Electronics in room are noisy (refrigerator buzz), toilet set was broken/loose, bathroom was not at all private, check in was awful (requires an app download & electronic key), television setup was awful and we could barely use it, and the bed was very uncomfortable. Pillows and one s were nice, and we appreciate the aesthetic. Overall not terribly impressed. However, the location was great! You are close to shopping, restaurants, coffee. You could practically walk to most of your needs.

The front desk staff was great. The room was cute. I really liked the vibe. Bed was relatively comfortable but the pillows were unbearable. Lots of trouble checking in bc Expedia doesn’t sync w their system very well. I think this is an Expedia problem. I would stay there again but would recommend booking directly & bringing your pillow.

Check in was a snap. The guy at reception Marty Cardamone was so helpful at night with recommendations for dining, etc. Then he was there in the morning for breakfast and so cheerful. I'd go back just to chat with him. I liked his professionalism and positive attitude. He really left me in a wonderful mood for my day of driving. Great.

The stay was average. Bathroom left a lot to be desired. Tub didn’t drain well, drop down ceiling tiles had water spots. The room itself was clean and nice. The office closes at midnight and right after people were sitting outside for over an hour being extremely loud keeping us awake. I asked them to be quiet and they did not. I had no way to contact anyone at the hotel since they were closed. I did reach out through their website and they reached out in the morning offering us late check out for free which was nice.

This is a nice motel with some mid century modern flair. They have a little central garden with cornhole and lawn games for entertainment. The staff was quiet and very nice. Good area. About 15 minutes from downtown Detroit so easy access to the city. The only negative i would say is the coffee and breakfast is next door at the village grill not the lobby. The restaurant doesnt open till 8 and lobby is closed so if your an early riser expect to make your instant coffee in your room. Other than that excellent! Will be looking to stay again next time im in the area!!

About 15 minutes from downtown Detroit so easy access to the city. The only negative i would say is the coffee and breakfast is next door at the village grill not the lobby. The restaurant doesnt open till 8 and lobby is closed so if your an early riser expect to make your instant coffee in your room. Other than that excellent! Will be looking to stay again next time im in the area!!

I was impressed by the cleanliness and aesthetics of the property. It reminded me of the retro-inspired place I stayed at in Wildwoods, NJ. Staff was quite eager to help out and give recommendations. I think the one issue I had was the stairway to the second floor. I'm clumsy, so that stairway was scary. The middle courtyard would be fun in warmer weather.

The hotel may be older, but they have really tried to update it and make it cute. The service was great and the coffee machine in the front office was free and delicious!! Free breakfast was a egg and cheese sammy or 2 bucks off at restaurant next door. So, that was misleading. But it was a wonderful stay.

Clean well kept, lots of upgrades. Great service from the front desk. Restaurant next door was a pleasant surprise with the discount and great food. The Breakfast Burrito was to die for! Only thing I missed was not have a chair in the room.

Good location for my purposes; quiet but “breakfast” was not good; and n appealing muffins, donuts and bagels; only coffee and creamer was powdered- ugh not what you want to wake up and have. If advertising b’fast it should be a bit more robust - maybe add yogurt and real milk options. Also no tea, hot water.

The room was cute and very clean. The staff was friendly and a pleasure to deal with. There were a few things in room that needed to be repaired, and a couple of issues. First there is not adequate places to charge phone and devices. There needs to be a way to charge phone on night stand near bed over night. The only available plug I could find was low on a wall where there was no place but the floor to put my phone. I was very unhappy with the breakfast deal, which was to walk down the sidewalk to a nearby restaurant, show them your room key. They gave you a bad cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich of their choice- white bread(which I really dislike, terrible cheese- I can’t eat cheese, and an egg. ) I threw away the bread and only ate the egg. The other choice was to buy breakfast at the restaurant and they would take $2 off the bill. Such a disappointment! Didn’t even bother my second morning. The tv was difficult to work. I had to get someone from the office to show me and even he had trouble. I suggest they put instructions on the tv. Having said all this I would stay there again . It was clean, the shower was great, bed comfortable and staff pleasant.

When we first arrived, it was less than what we expected based on the outside. Not that there was anything wrong with it. It was just different. We were very surprised to find how lovely this hotel was and how comfortable and quiet it was. Our room was very clean, comfortable, and very quiet. Perfect for a great nights sleep after a long busy day of fun. The front office staff were pleasant and the office very clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel. The parking filled up on the side are room was on. There was mold in the shower. There was a strong unpleasant smell in the drawers. The toilet was loose and sounded as if it came off from the wall when you started to get up from it. The walls didn’t insulate the outside noise. However the room temp was comfortable and so was the bed. The bedroom was very clean and the staff we interacted with were nice and helpful.

We arrived on a Sunday from a 12 hr drive. So we were tired. We arrived and there's a dj playing loud music outside by the lobby. I asked the lady in reception how long is the music going to be playing she said 8 pm I was annoyed. Then there is a sliding door for the bathroom, odd. With a Crack. Not privacy. The smell in the room is what did it 4 me, cigarettes. I told the lady were checking out tomorrow Nice bed though

First hotel I've been in that didn't have a table and chair, even though there was enough room for both. The other thing is, there were two pubic hairs on the edge of the bath tub. Overall, the tub looked clean, but those two hairs missed by the cleaning staff left a bad impression.

The Royal Oak Motel is a remodeled roadside motel with a retro vibe. Our signature standard room had a king-sized bed, microwave, refrigerator and a kitchen sink and counter with two barstools: there were two patios with fire pits and games. Also a pool table room and entertainment room. Room service. Staff at desk and small bar were great. Within walking distance to downtown area with much to do. One of my favorite places I have stayed.
