Nice hotel, staff are lovely my only complaint is that the spa is only open on weekends. Very strange for this type of hotel with all its other amenities. I was disappointed.

The bayview room option didn't work too well as it was too bright one day and overcast the next! Possibly a better window shading option that allows viewing out clearly yet protects UV from one's eyes. The desk was also right against the window and the heavy chair was hard to move on the carpet. The bed was very comfortable! The resort fee covered a lot! We really enjoyed using the steam, suana and whirlpools in both men's and women's side!

The bayview room option didn't work too well as it was too bright one day and overcast the next! Possibly a better window shading option that allows viewing out clearly yet protects UV from one's eyes. The desk was also right against the window and the heavy chair was hard to move on the carpet. The bed was very comfortable! The resort fee covered a lot! We really enjoyed using the steam, suana and whirlpools in both men's and women's side!

One of our favorite weekend getaway hotels. Excellent location, service, amenities,Pool and workout room. The only knock I would have is for the last couple years, there always is construction and renovations happening on the exterior.

Our stay at the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Check-in with Jonas at the front desk was seamless—he was patient, informative, and set the tone for an exceptional visit. The room was opulent and comfortable, and the gym exceeded expectations with its luxurious amenities. Breakfast was delicious, especially the omelet, and Muang went above and beyond with kindness and care for the kids. The 5 p.m. saber ceremony was a memorable highlight, and the view from any deck was simply outstanding—facilities were spotless and well maintained, making our stay truly enjoyable.I celebrated my 40th here and they had champagne and bites in the room

Registration was difficult. Area noisy due to loud music in bar. Only 1 staff person on duty and she was engrossed in conversation with someone (not checking in or out) for a long time. Another staff person came out eventually to check us in, but was unsuccessful in enabling room key to work for parking entry/exit. Also only 3 ev chargers, always in use so we weren’t able to charge ours.

Great service - pool is great especially if you like swimming laps (& teaching your kids). Tennis courts are fun - we are a tennis playing family! Now, they have food/drinks at the pool area- so that is great! Gym is also amazing! ( Wished self parking was included with the resort fee - doesn’t make sense why that is a separate charge for hotel guests…

We came there to celebrate my husband’s birthday and we had never been there. We were not disappointed. The room, staff, accommodations, pool, gym, tennis courts, coffee, tea and water were all provided. It was above our expectations. Also the view and room were impeccable. We will be back

When I made my reservations the website assured that both pools would be available. As a dedicated lap swimmer that was the primary selling point. Over the busy July 4 week the 5 lane lap pool was under rehabilitation, thus the general pool was overcrowded with swim lessons, aerobics & other swimmers with limited availability. I was very disappointed.

I was so excited for this stay as I have family in the area and am looking for a new homemade when I come to visit. Unfortunately, it was awful. The hotel smells musty. After one night, I started looking around our room to see if I could identify the cause of the odor. That's when I saw the black mold all over the vent in our room. The other vents were equally as filthy. I brought it to the attention of the manager who was quick to offer a new room. I was shocked to open the door to find we had been downgraded to a smaller room despite paying for a deluxe queen at the outset. The new room had a dirty glass in the bathroom stained with old water/scum. I emailed the manager and have yet to hear back. There was no follow up. Needless to say I won't be back.

The property has seemingly been under renovation for the last 6 years. The AC in my room did not work, and there was an odd smell to my room (musty). I love the history of the hotel but I think they need to make some changes.

We recently checked into our room and found the service to be commendable. However, upon arrival, we encountered a few issues that raised some concerns. Firstly, there was a cockroach in the restroom, which was unexpected. Additionally, we noticed some wet towels left on the ground, and the shower had a slight leak. Moreover, the bedsheets felt damp, suggesting they may not have dried completely. On a positive note, the room itself was beautifully decorated, and the amenities were quite lovely. Despite these challenges, I am looking forward to the opportunity to stay there again in the future and trust that these matters will be addressed.

Failed clean and service my room the last day of stay. Was out of room from at least 10:45 am to 9:15 pm. No consideration on bill nor did I ask. Better hotels accommodate when they fail significant service. Maybe because they are not fairmount anymore. The do not disturb sign was not displayed.

The Claremont is a lovely old hotel with quite a history. Our room was small and a king size bed really filled the room leaving little room for any kind of comfortable longe chair.

We got a “Deluxe” King room, that was just completely underwhelming. Our view is of the trash dumpsters. The HVAC is loud. Not what I would expect for over $500 a night.

It's a beautiful old hotel and they are remodeling the exterior but for the money, the interior needs some attention. The shades should be automatic, the fabrics need update, the furnishings should be more streamline in a small room with 2 beds so you can walk around the bed without hitting the corner of the desk and suitcase holder...it just needs some attention.

The room was in good condition. But the TV buzzed and it was a long journey to actually get to the room—like you had to take two elevators and walk through a myriad of hallways to get to the room. It was not worth what I was charged.

Room Key didn’t work 3 times after a late night flying. Had to go back multiple times. They changed my room. Key didn’t work. stuck me in a room with a loud maintenance closet. Was always a fan of the Claremont. Not anymore!

Amazing resort. Best service in the USA in the last 30 years. Staff is so well trained and so welcoming. Jeannie at concierge is a cut above every other conceriege I've experienced. Giovanni was a remarkable bellman. Pool people and Provisions and snack bar by pool all terrific. Hannah the rooms manager really took care of my wife on her 65th birthday and both of us on our 35th anniversary. Thank you

For a Fairmont, the service and food were very poor. I was not able to check into my room at the regular check-in time. I had to walk downstairs to order room service because no one answered the room service line, the operator line, or the customer service line. No comped delivery fee or other consideration was offered to me.

Breakfast was delicious, especially the omelet, and Muang went above and beyond with kindness and care for the kids. The 5 p.m. saber ceremony was a memorable highlight, and the view from any deck was simply outstanding—facilities were spotless and well maintained, making our stay truly enjoyable.I celebrated my 40th here and they had champagne and bites in the room

I have stayed at the Claremont several times over the past few years, and I usually have no complaints. But my check in experience during this last stay left a lot to be desired. I arrived for check in late (I believe around 11 p.m.) and had paid for the room in advance. Because I didn't have a physical credit card on me, I attempted to put the incidentals on my digital credit card (of which I had three). The front desk staff informed me that the system was not accepting them for some reason, and asked me to fill out a form, which I did. The first card/form also was declined. I filled out a second form, which also was declined. Then I was told to contact my credit card directly and there was nothing the hotel could do for me, which I did. 30 minutes later after getting a response from the credit card company that there was in fact a hold on my card from the hotel, I asked the front desk what I can do next. The person at the desk tried again and lo and behold my card was accepted. Meanwhile, I saw at least four holds on my card from the hotel. Yet, instead of double-checking and triple-checking your system, I was made to feel like the problem was on my end. It took me about 40 minutes to be able to check in and access my room closer to midnight. All in all, it was a very unpleasant start to my stay, and even though I am a member, I will not be returning any time soon.

Registration was difficult. Area noisy due to loud music in bar. Only 1 staff person on duty and she was engrossed in conversation with someone (not checking in or out) for a long time. Another staff person came out eventually to check us in, but was unsuccessful in enabling room key to work for parking entry/exit. Also only 3 ev chargers, always in use so we weren’t able to charge ours.

Hotel itself is slightly outdated but they are updating part of the hotel. Didn’t love that you had to walk outside of the hotel and walk through a parking lot to get to the pool. It wasn’t that far but just would have been nicer if it was closer.

We didn’t realize they were remodeling the exterior and while the building would have looked better, they did a great job of limiting its impact on the property. Besides that the resort was in tip top shape and we loved the location being central to a number of different things.

This is a lovely staycation if you live in SF! We live in the fog, and needed a break from the children. The claremont fit the bill! In the past we sometimes have gone far away, but that can be stressful because of the long drives, etc. WIth the Claremont, we got to explore a part of the Bay Area where we usually don't go, and the facilities are glorious. The workout rooms are phenomenal, and the pool and spa are fantastic. Plus don't forget your tennis and pickleball racquet! Great weekend without the stress of travel! We will be back!

Love the location where you can see beautiful view of the bay and city - a bit surreal in the busy city of Berkeley. Great restaurant and love the whole gym club facility - the nicest I've seen in hotels. Also - great staff service. The standard room is small - which is the only drawback to this stay. When you are in the room - no where else to sit but the bed and the one uncomfortable chair. But the entire hotel has plenty of very nice sitting areas - which is where I end up hanging out most of the time - try to stay away from my room!

Loved this hotel! Would highly recommend. Only thing we did not like was the food. Very low quality and expensive. If you’re going to stay there, suggest toning out in the neighborhood, there are good dining options.

Nicely updated interior and rooms. Unbelievably oversold at hotel restaurant (this premium expensive glass of wine when asked for house cab). Also, in room dining was the worst I’ve had. Flatbread tasted like frozen pizza. Salad not much better. Would stay again for rooms but wouldn’t spend a dime on dining.

Room service breakfast not so good. The app does not allow for many a la carte options - very inflexible. Worse, I got a large bowl of runny bland oatmeal - no texture, no honey, pathetic “granola”, had to add fruit on the side. The bill was $47!! Look to the 4 Seasons or Ritz Carlton for guidance. Finally, the hotel lobby smells terrible.

The property is dated and the hotel is understaffed other than the front desk. Restaurant, bar and convenience store are all understaffed. Dirty tables, with leftovers are sitting there for extended time and service is very slow. My husband was very disappointed about his staek for $105.

Best thing about the place is the view. Otherwise, super overpriced for what it is. It’s fine: clean, safe, quiet, but not a luxury experience. The restaurant bad (watered down drinks, super salty and dry pork chop served with several pieces of squash that cost $45 and took about an hour to arrive after ordering) and very overpriced. Again, the view and champagne were enough to (almost) justify being there. Overall, I felt the value was lacking.

It was a dream come true! 20 years after I graduated from Berkeley I came back. This time with my husband and our three kids. It was their first trip to US and Berkeley. We had such a wonderful time at this beautiful hotel. We loved the Club facilities, great food and entertainment and we will for sure come back<3

My husband and I visit Berkeley often since our daughter goes to college there. Usually, we stay somewhere convenient because our trips revolve around moving her in or out. This is her senior year, so for our last move-in, we decided to treat ourselves to 1 night at the Claremont. At check-in, we were told we had been upgraded to a Queen Suite bc the Deluxe Room w/ Bay View that I had booked was no longer available. We checked in after dark, so I didn’t see much that night. The next morning, I opened the windows and saw the beautiful view. Not. I really appreciate the history of the Claremont. Even before I looked it up, I told my husband it felt like a place that would have been the place to be in the 1930s. It definitely has that old-fashioned, grand-hotel feel, almost like stepping back in time. Unfortunately, the room felt more old than historic. Pros Gorgeous location Exceptional service Beautiful, spacious marble bathroom Great old-fashioned, historic atmosphere Cons Room was musty and had a stale cigarette smoke smell Thick, tired carpeting that could use a refresh Mildew in the corners of the shower Stained carpet in the check-in area The room we received was not the room I booked, the “upgrade” didn’t feel like one. A map showing the parking areas with driveways and building ingress/egress would have been helpful. The map should also include which walkways are steep, etc. Lighting in room 506 is not good so I could not really tell if it was clean or not. A comfortable chair for sitting by the window would have been nice for reading, etc. Amenities provided were very well thought out and we appreciated the quality. Hot water recirculation system would have saved a lot of water that went down the drain to get hot water.

My daughter and I had a great 3 day stay. Everyone on staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Our TV wasn’t working right but was fixed within minutes. I would suggest using all the amenities, we had so much fun! My daughter is moving to attend grad school so it was our last chance together to have fun for a while.
