La Quinta by Wyndham Carlsbad

Nothing seemed to work, none of the side doors worked, the hot tub didn’t work, one of the elevators was out. My in-laws had to move rooms because their bathroom door wouldn’t close and the shower leaked. The staff was friendly enough.

The folks here were incredibly friendly. The hotel was very clean. The pool is nice and can accommodate a good size group, however the hot tub was out of service and the door missing a handle. So if you are wanting to help your legs feel better after touring the caverns, make sure the hot tub is working before making your reservation! Breakfast was standard fare but fresh and readily available. *If you have anyone on the spectrum- the third floor has an annoying whine. However, you can only hear it in the hallway. The rooms were quiet and self contained.

Hotel was sufficient in everything. Pool was low and was being filled so we couldn't use and the hot tub was out of order. Breakfast was very disappointing, with very little to choose from and very little available, i would hardly call it a hot breakfast. everything was clean and felt very safe.

Was a good hotel, the only problem do we see it’s the pool it is steel cool. Theyre should already put hot water in it.

We had chosen the hotel due to the pool but unfortunately it was an amenity that was not available.

There is no hot tub! The only reason I booked here was because of the hot tub and the damn thing was cemented over, just not even there anymore. DO BETTER! The pictures y’all have are old.

This property is very run down. Both side entrances were broken. One elevator was not working. The ice machine on our floor was not working. Doors all scratched and did not feel secure. It was not a pleasant stay.

Room was dirty. Needed to be vacuumed. Walls were dirty. Appeared to not have been wiped in quite a while. Visible dirt and stains on walls, floors and furniture. Bathroom floor tiles were broken and loose. Bathtub was filthy and paint was peeling. No cleaning service provided to replenish towels or toilet paper. Broken toilet seat. Night staff had poor customer service and completely unfriendly attitude when checking in. Will avoid future booking with La Quinta at all cost.

Nice quiet area to stay. The room was ok but the bathroom needed to be cleaned it was filthy. Ledge on the bottom of shower was full of hair.

We arrived to our room and there were spit balls on the ceiling, and walls (see photos). The toilet had flooded; there was water leaking all over the floor when we arrived. The faucet was leaking loudly in the shower and you couldn’t turn it off. It was like this when we first entered the room. So, during our entire stay, the water was pouring out of the faucet into the tub. All night long and all day long, loudly. Even with the bathroom door shut, and the air conditioner on, you could hear it loudly. We reported it to the front desk after entering our room for our stay, and we were told that there were no other rooms available, and that the maintenance guy had already left for the day. So, there was nothing they could do. They gave us a few towels to lay on the floor in the bathroom to soak up the water for our 3 day/2 night stay. The air conditioning kept resetting and turning off throughout the night. The light in the bathroom was out (missing all 3 lightbulbs). The garbage cans at the front entrance were overflowing; garbage was piled on top and completely full inside. They looked like they hadn’t been emptied in over a week. The shower curtain was ripped with black mold on it (see photo). We asked for some hand towels (we were only provided two wash cloths in our room) and they gave us bath rugs instead. The bathtub was absolutely disgusting. Yellow stains, pubic hairs in the tub, hairs on the floor in the bathroom, and food and hair on the sheets in our beds.

Our room was never clean. They said they were understafffed. Don’t plan on staying at another La Quinta again.

Checked in around 2am. Went to our room wanting to take a shower. We see the shower is dirty the glass door has water marks and something slimy smeared on the outside of the door. I notify the front desk we go check two other rooms and the same issue in each room, dirty showers. We contact the GM and offers no solutions. I ask for my money back and left. Tired and wanting to take a shower we head down the street to another hotel.

Liked nothing. Windows were drafty and blackout shades didn’t cover windows. Could hear footsteps overhead.

The shower head leaked from the moment we entered the room. When I asked them to move us I was told all the showerheads were leaking. We put multiple towels underneath in an effort to quiet the noise. The bathroom door only opened part way. Glass shower doors had soap scum on them. Noisy if your room faces the road.

My experience was good overall as it has been the case since I started traveling to Carlsbad for business. This time around though, with the high winds and cold weather, I experienced a situation with my room 324. One of the window panels was loose and not sealing properly, I tried pushing it out to see if it was something correctable however, it's just sign of an outdated window. The cold air overpowered the A/C unit so, it was a cold couple of nights.

Was clean and staff was great the only thing is it’s close to highway and very noisy at night with the cars going by.

Between the road/car noise and constant mystery sound coming from the bathroom, I barely got any sleep (and I was on the fourth floor!) The staff was very nice however.

Our room had some minor issues - the panel under the AC was falling off exposing wood and the TV reception was awful. We were travelling with our dog and they put us on the first floor in the room right next to the reception desk, the worst possible spot for a dog with all of the traffic and noise from guests at the front desk and breakfast area.

We asked for a quiet room. Top floor, end of hall because we just needed sleep. They put us at the end of the hall right across from the ice maker that randomly ran all night long, and the washed and dryer. Someone was doing laundry all night. So we did not get our quiet room or much sleep. The grout was broken in the bathroom, so the bathroom tiles moved under your feet and were uneven. Bed was comfortable. I brought my own pillow.

The room was tired. Wall repair needed. The shower control is very difficult to turn on & impossible to turn off. If was dripping when we arrived and I had to throw towels under the constant drip to get to sleep. The shower control doesn’t cover the hole in the wall.

My experience was good overall however, my chief complaint is the level of noise from the passing traffic . It just steals one or more hours of sleep.

This is a tough review for me. We had a one bedroom King unit. It was clean and what I would expect from a LaQuinta, but there were just a few too many small issues. Issues included slow shower drain that left you standing in 2" of water while showering, a broken shower curtain rod which left about 1 foot open on each side of the shower, a slow draining sink, a thermostat on the wall not connected to anything (manual controls on the unit itself. Took a few minutes to figure this out), garbage bag from previous stay left in room, and a poor window seal which created a whistling noise in the room due to wind. Having said all of that, it was priced well, was safe, was clean, and in a good location for Carlsbad Caverns. With similar local options that I had this time, I would choose the LaQuinta again.

Overall, this La Quinta is exactly what you would expect except that the staff is inattentive and not competent. When our room was not serviced, I called the front desk and asked why. I was informed (late afternoon of May 21, 2023) that the governor of New Mexico had extended COVID restrictions so that housekeeping was not allowed to go into my room due to the governor’s special rules. This was a bald-faced lie that the staff member invented. Notably, no other COVID restriction were in place (no masks, distancing, etc.) reinforcing the absurdity of this staff member’s lie. Note that housekeeping here is on an “as requested basis” here. They will clean your room only if you request it. I had to call twice to get a squirt of WD40 on the very squeaky door hinges in the room's bathroom. The staff member who did this maintenance sprayed WD40 all over the back of the door and on the floor. The stairs were covered in mud. I reported this mud on May 20. The same caked on mud was still present on May 23. One good feature is that the shower had terrific water pressure. The room was clean and quiet. The location is excellent for visiting the National Parks. The breakfast was simple, but adequate.

Prior to check in I called and asked for an early check in. They said nothing was available. I waited until after 5pm to check in I asked for a room towards the rear of the building instead he gives me the first room next to the lobby check in an ADA compliant room. Not what I asked for. Shower water went everywhere. No towels or cleaning crew available. Front desk staff was lazy and lacked customer service.

First time I've ever gotten a call from the manager just after check in, to make sure everything was OK.

Checking in was rough. I reserved two rooms under my name, and the clerk had difficulty finding my second room. She finally did and didn’t apologize or anything. Then, the worst was when they were really rude to my family member at breakfast. She has a service animal and was getting herself breakfast. The service dog clearly has a vet and acts on command. The female employee at breakfast yelled at her that pets could not be in the area. It’s not like the dog was where the food was being prepared. My family member told her, “So am I not allowed to eat?” The employee told her to take it up to the manager. Considering that La Quinta is such a large company, you’d think they’d properly train their employees to be more considerate and professional about individuals with disabilities.

Quick easy check in and out. Great breakfast buffet too. Staff friendly and helpful.

The overnight guy was WONDERFUL! He was so helpful and went above and beyond. And the day lady was very sweet as well! Thank you! I will be returning!

Lower rating because a few staff members were not hospitable. Checking in the clerk spent five minutes typing on the computer I’ve always thought guest in front of you a priority. In the morning the breakfast person whom I asked where the coffee was sharply said by the “front door where it always is”. My first time here I didn’t know but is that how you would treat your guest at home? Checkout is at 11. At exactly 11 we were getting ready to leave but a few minutes before a male housekeeper pounded on the door as if there was a fire and yelled check out is at 11. Recommend training on how to communicate with a guest. But the maintenance/ engineer guy was great. I’ve been in the biz a long time and most times engineers are the least friendly.

Hotel looked new but staff are incompetent. Attempted to book through Wyndham site 2 rooms but would not let me, called the hotel directly to book and they told me to book through hotels.com. I had to check in online then again at hotel for both rooms each. Again to check out and was double charged for pet and early check in which they refused to provide and was supposed to be free. No soap or shampoo, lotion etc in room. Ask for it at desk. They provided sample bottles for two people but I had 4 in room. People partying at pool area and in pool at 3:45am. Very noisy in room. Took 40 min to check out. Discussed issues. They kept apologizing but it was not sincere and double charged me I feel intentionally. I asked for a receipt for which I discovered. They acknowledged Artie but the lady who first stated she was the manager admitted she wasn’t and was a trainee but no one knew how to give me a refund. The manager to texted by staff and said it would be at least Monday before they could give me a refund. That is two days away. My receipt stated the charges were “upsells”. I attempted to call manager but she did not answer. Wyndham corporate hung up on me twice from some foreign country without being able to get past who I was and verify my info.

No hot water which the hotel was fully aware of when they checked us in however failed to disclose and the manager refused to call back to discuss once we discovered. VERY DISAPPOINTED in hotel as well as Experian customer service for not providing alternatives…your customer service chat service is worthless at best. Totally wrong that Experian does not provide a phone number to discuss issues directly versus your chat feature. If we could provide a negative star rating for both the hotel & Experian we would do so however you do not provide that option. Please give me a call to discuss live.

This is a great hotel. It's located on the National Park Highway, so there's easy access to heading out to Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains National Parks, which is what I did. You can head out to the parks without having to go through Carlsbad traffic, which does exist. You can also access Carlsbad with its dining options. I slept very well here, and the hotel is quiet. The selections for the complimentary breakfast were fantastic. I ate very well.

We only stayed one night. The room was clean and the bed was super comfortable. Breakfast was okay. The location was very convenient to go visit Carlsbad Caverns. I would stay here again!

Our stay at LaQuinta in Carlsbad was quite satisfactory and comfortable. The location is convenient to the National Park. The hotel fronts a busy, noisy highway with lots of trucks, so be sure to request a room in the back to minimize the noise. The breakfast selection was good, but not great. Portions of the grout in our shower were pretty nasty looking, but overall, the hotel was clean and updated.

We recently stayed at La Quinta Inn & Suites in Carlsbad and had a great experience overall. Our room was clean and comfortable, with everything we needed for a short stay. We did have a bit of trouble with the TV, but the front desk staff was courteous and quick to help—excellent service that really made a difference. The continental breakfast was fairly standard, but what really stood out was the gentleman managing the area. He was fantastic—constantly cleaning, refilling, and keeping everything fresh and orderly. His attention to detail and hustle made our morning start off right. Another major plus is the location—perfect for visiting Carlsbad Caverns. It’s a convenient and well-maintained spot for anyone passing through or exploring the area. Would definitely stay again!

The hotel was by far the noisiest I’ve ever stayed in. Our room faced the highway and there was constant road noise. The windows need replaced or they should provide earplugs for guests. The staff were nice, breakfast was good and the location was convenient.

Good location for the national park on the other side of the main Carlsbad traffic, closest to the park.

Front desk was very helpful. They could change up their breakfast. Would be nice if they had other varieties. Other than that had a great stay.

Every single trashcan on the property was full. Some overflowing giving a very messy appearance. My room was supposed to be ready at 3 but wasn’t ready until just after 5. The lobby was full with people whose rooms were not ready. Property itself was a bit run down with repairs made but not finished. Hot tub not working and had trash and old water in it. Huge eye sore. Waffles out of stock which is arguably a staple at hotel breakfasts.

Best bet I had slept in a week. Everything was clean. Only issue that I could see was the shower was leaking. Breakfast was good and it was nice to see. Servesafe being trained to a new staff member.

We have stayed in at least a dozen different hotel over the last 18 months. This La Quinta by far has the best breakfast hands down. The staff is courteous and friendly. The facility itself is very nice and comfortable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Everything was good. The only thing was that the waffle makers were't working properly. One was out of order which was down to 1 only to use for a busy morning.

This place was poppin'. There were so many families and dogs so the place was constantly messy. The hallways and elevators were covered in crushed chips and cookies. Spilled juices. Housekeeping cleaned it once a day so it was pretty much messy all of the time, but that is the fault of lazy parents and not the hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast had a gluten free waffle station and gluten free bagels which was amazing. They also had an delicious Green Chili stew in the morning. This was a decent place to stay. Carlsbad isn't a big town and there are hotels everywhere. But I would stay here again.

Room was ok and staff was polite but breakfast was awful. Bacon so thin as paper and tasteless. No variety of fruit and powdered eggs with zero amenities to enhance the flavor. We ate breakfast out 3 of the 5 nights we stayed. Will not be using La Quinta in the future.

From checkin to breakfast the next day, everything was great. Breakfast was one of the best we've had at an economy hotel.
