We recently stayed one night at the castle and found the room to be comfortable and clean. The breakfast was as described and was brought to our room at the time requested. We particularly enjoyed the riverside walk around the castle which is easy to follow and met the approval of our dog.

We had the most amazing time staying at Buittle Castle. The room was simply gorgeous, with the lovely peacock wallpaper and charming antique paintings. The grounds that the castle is located on were just beautiful on our cool autumn day there. My favorite part had to be the sunken garden, which was wonderfully landscaped and would be a perfect place for an afternoon tea when the weather is warmer. James was extremely accommodating and very knowledgeable about the history of his family home. I should also mention that our Scottish breakfast in the castle great room was delicious, and we felt like we were part of a period piece. We loved our stay here and can't wait to come back for another season.

We had a fabulous short stay at Buittle Castle. The setting is very tranquil and the room extremely comfortable. We woke to the sound of birdsong and were served a great Scottish breakfast. We just had time for a short riverside walk, all within the grounds, before heading for home. I would certainly recommend.

Arriving in the dark, we found Tobias waiting for us on site and due to the pouring rain we quickly made our way to our room. The room was spacious with a log burning stove which although there was wood we had no firestarting equipment to light it. That would've been a nice touch as the night got colder and the one radiator wasn't enough to heat the whole room. Bed was very comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. Bathroom was clean with ample toilet roll and hand soap. Main door could've used a mat to mop up the dirt and rain from our feet on entry and a couple of coat hooks behind the door for wet jackets. Tobias, really looked after us with silver service coffee once we had settled in. Choice for breakfast was excellent the produce was local and a perfect Gluten Free breakfast was available and tasty. Once the day light arrived we were surrounded by beautiful grounds and a lovely sunken garden. We would definitely return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in a lovely part of the world. The hot tub was bonus after a long day. Tobias was a wonderful host. Buittle is a most interesting place with interesting owners and we felt we had just scratched the surface so we will just have to make a return visit.

We totally enjoyed the tranquil setting. Loved spending time walking the sunken garden and relaxing on one of the many benches around the estate and castle grounds. Tobias as co-owner and on site manager met us personally and reviewed room amenities. Basic are nicely covered. We truly enjoyed the great hall dining experience and the meal and service was excellent. Many thanks Tobias for all of your efforts and the evidence of ongoing work on your passion to create and restore an authentic getaway experience. My wife and I look forward to staying with you again on our next journey across the pond to Scotland.

Idyllic spot with perfect weather. Hosts couldnt be more helpful throughout. Breakfast was extremely tasty, shower good and hot. Had a great splash in the hot tub with stunning views. The dogs enjoyed the riverside walk and were made very welcome. Couldn't fault our stay. Highly recommended 👍😊

Buittle Castle is a lovely and ancient castle home drenched in a rich history and run by Tobias and his cousin James. Tobias cooked us delicious breakfasts and was very knowledgeable about the castle history and the area. The room was very cozy and had everything you would need to have a comfortable stay. The grounds were just beautiful with several walking footpaths that would show you scenes of the pastures, gardens, and along a stream and a river. We had a great time here, and did not feel the need to see another castle! We hope to stay here again one day!

First stop on our Scotland holiday, and we got to stay at a Castle! The owners were very friendly. Breakfast was very good and we opted to eat inside the castle which was very enjoyable. The area around there was full of activities. The grounds were lovely with some footpaths to enjoy. A short stroll to see grazing sheep, belted Gallaways and a couple Highland cows.

Charles waited up for us until 11 pm because of a delayed flight. The place was clean and comfortable and very accommodating. I would absolutely stay again.

Very charming place to stay. The room was clean and had all amenities listed. We loved the charming feel of staying in a very old castle, which is what we were looking for. The grounds are just gorgeous and peaceful. We indulged in the private dining in the Medieval Hall, I can’t say enough about that. It was so lovely and we felt like a Laird and Lady. It’s worth the extra cost. Our host Tobias was so gracious and helpful with any questions or directions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Buittle Castle

By its nature the accommodation fitted in with castle but it was tired and needed attention. We lost sight of the number of cobwebs which had been there for some time. The bathroom sink was badly cracked the toilet seat needed replaced and there was black mould along the edge of the bottom of the shower the accommodation was cold when we arrived and took several hours for the room to be acceptably warm. We have pictures of all the issues we have highlighted. Just to finish Tobias could not have been more helpful but with these many issues this is not somewhere we could recommend

This was our third visit to Buittle Castle and it was wonderful. Food was delicious and loved having the log burner in our room. Buittle is in a good location close to Kirkcudbright & Rockcliffe which are well worth a visit. Tobias & James were great hosts, thanks again for a special couple of days.

Buittle Castle is a beautiful and unique place to stay. The Munches room was very comfortable, the surrounding scenery was beautiful, and the breakfast was excellent. Tobias was a gracious and informative host. And it’s not every day you get to stay in a 12th century castle. I loved it.

What a great little find! We booked a one night stay for my birthday as we rarely get the chance to get away. Communication was excellent throughout and Tobias was very attentive and looked after us extremely well. The food was excellent. We had dinner in our room, we would have loved to have dinner in the hall but we were made aware of heating problems and accepted this. Breakfast was also very delicious. We had a dip in the hot tub which was lovely in the snow and extra towels were provided. The room was a little cold, and it was exceptionally cold outside, though. Maybe a few toiletries would be nice, but for the money Buitle Castle was excellent value for money.

We only stayed in the Lady Maxwell room for one night but would recommend it. The dog-friendly and spacious room had everything we needed. The booklet in the room explaining the history of Buittle Castle was an interesting read. Breakfast was delicious and it was a treat to get to eat in the historic great hall. The grounds are beautiful and the area was very peaceful.

Buittle Castle was a fascinating location and we were lucky to be able to talk to our hosts about the history and the substantial improvements they have made in recent years. The Lady Maxwell Room was very comfortable and well fitted out. Dinner in the main hall was organised in advance and of a high standard with an interesting and good value wine list. Breakfast was also very enjoyable and we were able to arrange an early one on the day of departure. We will definitely consider coming back if ever in this area again.

James was extremely accommodating and very knowledgeable about the history of his family home. I should also mention that our Scottish breakfast in the castle great room was delicious, and we felt like we were part of a period piece. We loved our stay here and can't wait to come back for another season.

What a great little find! We booked a one night stay for my birthday as we rarely get the chance to get away. Communication was excellent throughout and Tobias was very attentive and looked after us extremely well. The food was excellent. We had dinner in our room, we would have loved to have dinner in the hall but we were made aware of heating problems and accepted this. Breakfast was also very delicious. We had a dip in the hot tub which was lovely in the snow and extra towels were provided. The room was a little cold, and it was exceptionally cold outside, though. Maybe a few toiletries would be nice, but for the money Buitle Castle was excellent value for money.

The grounds are just gorgeous and peaceful. We indulged in the private dining in the Medieval Hall, I can’t say enough about that. It was so lovely and we felt like a Laird and Lady. By its nature the accommodation fitted in with castle but it was tired and needed attention. We lost sight of the number of cobwebs which had been there for some time. The bathroom sink was badly cracked the toilet seat needed replaced and there was black mould along the edge of the bottom of the shower the accommodation was cold when we arrived and took several hours for the room to be acceptably warm. We have pictures of all the issues we have highlighted. Just to finish Tobias could not have been more helpful but with these many issues this is not somewhere we could recommend

Buittle Castle was a fascinating location and we were lucky to be able to talk to our hosts about the history and the substantial improvements they have made in recent years. The Lady Maxwell Room was very comfortable and well fitted out. Dinner in the main hall was organised in advance and of a high standard with an interesting and good value wine list. Breakfast was also very enjoyable and we were able to arrange an early one on the day of departure. We will definitely consider coming back if ever in this area again.

We totally enjoyed the tranquil setting. Loved spending time walking the sunken garden and relaxing on one of the many benches around the estate and castle grounds. Tobias as co-owner and on site manager met us personally and reviewed room amenities. Basic are nicely covered. We truly enjoyed the great hall dining experience and the meal and service was excellent. Many thanks Tobias for all of your efforts and the evidence of ongoing work on your passion to create and restore an authentic getaway experience. My wife and I look forward to staying with you again on our next journey across the pond to Scotland.

We had the most amazing time staying at Buittle Castle. The room was simply gorgeous, with the lovely peacock wallpaper and charming antique paintings. The grounds that the castle is located on were just beautiful on our cool autumn day there. My favorite part had to be the sunken garden, which was wonderfully landscaped and would be a perfect place for an afternoon tea when the weather is warmer. This was our third visit to Buittle Castle and it was wonderful. Food was delicious and loved having the log burner in our room. Buittle is in a good location close to Kirkcudbright & Rockcliffe which are well worth a visit. Tobias & James were great hosts, thanks again for a special couple of days.

We had a fabulous short stay at Buittle Castle. The setting is very tranquil and the room extremely comfortable. We woke to the sound of birdsong and were served a great Scottish breakfast. Interessantes Erlebnis für einmal. Wunsch war natürlich, das Schloss selbst zu besichtigen, aber nicht möglich, da privat genutzt vom Vermieter. Schade! Ansonsten abgelegen, ruhig, kein Fernseher. Zimmer wurde nachgestellt. Objekt war scheinbar ein alter Stall oder ehemalige Bedienstetenräume. Gastgeber gab sich alle Mühe auch beim Frühstück. Für Naturliebhaber kann ich den Ort empfehlen! Danke für die Erfahrung!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in a lovely part of the world. The hot tub was bonus after a long day. Tobias was a wonderful host. Buittle is a most interesting place with interesting owners and we felt we had just scratched the surface so we will just have to make a return visit.

We only stayed in the Lady Maxwell room for one night but would recommend it. The dog-friendly and spacious room had everything we needed. The booklet in the room explaining the history of Buittle Castle was an interesting read. Breakfast was delicious and it was a treat to get to eat in the historic great hall. The grounds are beautiful and the area was very peaceful.

What a beautiful spot. Tranquil and close to drive by towns. The Entrepreneurs, Chef and The Baron James de Balliol-Cavendish and Cousin Tobias Parker, owners have bought the Castle to another level and keeping some traditional alive. First stop on our Scotland holiday, and we got to stay at a Castle! The owners were very friendly. Breakfast was very good and we opted to eat inside the castle which was very enjoyable. The area around there was full of activities. The grounds were lovely with some footpaths to enjoy. A short stroll to see grazing sheep, belted Gallaways and a couple Highland cows.

Arriving in the dark, we found Tobias waiting for us on site and due to the pouring rain we quickly made our way to our room. The room was spacious with a log burning stove which although there was wood we had no firestarting equipment to light it. That would've been a nice touch as the night got colder and the one radiator wasn't enough to heat the whole room. Bed was very comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. Bathroom was clean with ample toilet roll and hand soap. Main door could've used a mat to mop up the dirt and rain from our feet on entry and a couple of coat hooks behind the door for wet jackets. Tobias, really looked after us with silver service coffee once we had settled in. Choice for breakfast was excellent the produce was local and a perfect Gluten Free breakfast was available and tasty. Once the day light arrived we were surrounded by beautiful grounds and a lovely sunken garden. We would definitely return.

We spent three nights here and were thrilled. The property itself, the history of the house, the ambiance of the room (we had the Lady Maxwell Room) and dining room, Tobias's kind and warm manner, and the wonderful night's sleep were all delightful. The optional set menu is also highly recommended.

An absolutely lovely stay! Tobias was incredibly hospitable and the grounds were beautiful. We had both dinner and breakfast, as well as wine. All were so delicious and next level. The grounds were breathtaking and so quiet in the evening for a restful sleep. The lady Maxwell room was beautiful and comfortable. It was lovely to have gone to the Caerlaverock Castle before our stay and learn more about the Maxwells. Tobias opened up the family chapel for us to view before our departure and we were so grateful for that. My only regret is not being able to stay longer!
