Tynemouth has something for everyone, with award-winning beaches famed for surfing competitions, the Blue Reef Aquarium, a Victorian boating lake, the beautiful priory, stunning promenades and an abundance of lovely bars, cafés, and restaurants suitable for all age groups and tastes. Little cafés serving fish and chips and ice-creams are hidden along parts of the beach. Walk over to the inspiring weekend covered market at the Tynemouth Metro known locally as the Covent Garden of the North where you can find all sorts of treasures old and new and eat off one of the market stalls. A stroll along to Whitley Bay is a must, where you can stop off for a nice drink or a meal inside the Spanish City, or a glass of champagne in the bar on the top floor with lovely views across the North Sea towards St Mary's Lighthouse, and it truly is worth a visit.
