This is a lovely historical property. Our room was spacious and the bed was soft but comfortable. The pillows and covers were stained yellow but otherwise the furnishings were clean and tasteful. The weather didn't cooperate for us to try the pool, but it appeared clean. We found the breakfast to be less than other similar properties. Small portions of a set menu with no variation or inquiry as to the guests preferences. We would recommend this property for its historical beauty and location.

Unlike most other B&Bs we have used, the owner lives on-site and attends to all 11 rooms/guests which is a big plus and indicates to us any issues are minor. They were great! Parking lot, common areas, pool, library, entries,dining etc, were very nice and some like main stairs were elaborate. Bed, bedding, bath, shower, floors, windows, etc) were very clean. TV in room has Roku streaming free movies and channels which we have at home. Internet too. Convenient to food, general shopping and entertainment like movie theater. Our bedroom wallpaper & decor was a bit outdated and the bed was a bit soft for our liking. Room could have used a detailed cleaning (corners, chair apolstrey, fireplace, etc) , but nothing major and probably similar to most homes. Really enjoyed our stay.

The pool was cold and had green algae on the bottom of it. If you’re going to use the pool you need to take your own towels they do not provide those in the last 20 years we have gone to this place four times and we don’t feel that we want to go back anymore. You can walk to the downtown restaurants so it is a short distance from town.

Very interesting history and nicely maintained property. When reserving room, traveler should be informed the room may be on the 3rd floor of the house. It wasn’t a problem for me, but could be for some people. The only downside is the breakfast was good but very minimal.

A charming old home - comfortable room. There is no elevator so the second and 3rd floors are not accessible for some. Although the rooms do not have fridges, we were most welcome to store meds and perishables in the kitchen fridge. Host Richard and his mum are most welcoming and kind.

The Cozy Afghan is in a beautiful, historic building in downtown St. Marys. The room was very clean and well appointed. There was a coffee shop and multiple restaurants within easy walking distance. We were in the area for elk viewing and the location was extremely convenient, less than a 30-minute drive from the Keystone Elk Country Visitor Center.

Building and interior are old,the mish mash of chairs in foyer area look like they were trash picked. Outside is plain, no flowers, old, in need of a little landscape or at least a few flowers in pots. The sheets seemed old and were paper thin. Porch outsiide was dirty. No where to sit and relax. Over all so disappointing. Not sure but it seemed the owner was the only one working there. There is nothing to do in close proximity and the town is not at all a place to hang out. No coffee in room or any where near. Sadly this experience has scared me from staying at another bed and breakfast. We did drive to elk visitor center which was a great experience and saw a few elk.

i can describe the place in one word, DUMP! The entrance foyer is as pictured but the rest of the building is a run down dilapidated structure! The carpeting is old and dirty throughout. The ceiling in our room was cracked with a large hole cut in it. A chair in our room was filthy and very stained. The wallpaper was all peeling off the walls with packing tape on all the seams to keep the paper from falling off. Bathroom was no better. Sink and tub are cracked with the fixtures loose and falling off. The shower drain was so slow the water was ankle deep. The toilet tissue holder was falling off the wall. We had a fireplace in the room but it didn't work, the gas was disconnected. Breakfast was 7:30, 8:00 or 8:30, that's all. We didn't eat any day. We have traveled extensively and this is the worst place we have ever stayed in! Absolutely AWFUL!

Staff was friendly room was nice size and decorated nice. Air conditioner lost its cool and by morning the room was very muggy. Also the shower was small, decent size but the flooring strips had the floor. Very slippery. All in all though it was a great stay. Would definitely recommend

Nice Owner and family member. The residence is centrally located in the Alleghany Mountain area. My earplugs helped overcome the 60-decibel room noise from the heating system. The cranberry coffee cake/coffee breakfast was tasty and flavorful. I encourage the owner to throw out the king size mattress. It was difficult to sleep in the two deep depressions and we arrived too late in the evening to explore other room options

Very nice and historic B&B in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Elk Country. Rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. The owner is very personable and helpful in advising you on where to eat and places to visit. Would definitely stay there again!

Just plain bad. Check in desk said til 9PM. Arrived at 7:30, nothing to say how/where to go in. No one around. Found envelope with my name in a dark room (by chance). No access to WiFi as I never saw anyone. Breakfast hours are listed in the dark room so did not see them. Paid extra for room with fireplace to find a sign that was there a while saying “sorry gas off”. Saw no one on checkout either, which is listed as 11 on web, but sign says checkout 10. Furniture in room stained and dirty. Try to use local places, will never stay here again, and would advise people to stay away. Mattress was uncomfortable and had a deep “sink hole” on one side and bed was noisy.

Just disappointed. We went down for breakfast and were served 2 pancakes, a slice of watermelon, a sausage patty and coffee. When I mentioned that I could not eat a pancake because I'm diabetic, they took away the pancakes and never offered anything else saying I should've told them about my dietary concerns the day before. We heard cussing in the kitchen when my plate was taken back. Won't go back again!

Just plain bad. Check in desk said til 9PM. Arrived at 7:30, nothing to say how/where to go in. No one around. Found envelope with my name in a dark room (by chance). No access to WiFi as I never saw anyone. Breakfast hours are listed in the dark room so did not see them. Paid extra for room with fireplace to find a sign that was there a while saying “sorry gas off”. Saw no one on checkout either, which is listed as 11 on web, but sign says checkout 10. Furniture in room stained and dirty. Try to use local places, will never stay here again, and would advise people to stay away. Mattress was uncomfortable and had a deep “sink hole” on one side and bed was noisy.

A charming old home - comfortable room. There is no elevator so the second and 3rd floors are not accessible for some. Although the rooms do not have fridges, we were most welcome to store meds and perishables in the kitchen fridge. Host Richard and his mum are most welcoming and kind.

Breakfast was too restrictive. 7:30 to 8:30 only. When we asked for earlier breakfast, we were told, it’s not available. So we asked for a 9:00 breakfast and we were told that would not work. Just surprised that owner was so closed to our needs.

The Cozy Afghan is a lovely well-maintained house. Richard, the owner, was very attentive and helpful. The room had everything that we needed and we slept very soundly.

The Cozy Afghan is in a beautiful, historic building in downtown St. Marys. The room was very clean and well appointed. There was a coffee shop and multiple restaurants within easy walking distance. We were in the area for elk viewing and the location was extremely convenient, less than a 30-minute drive from the Keystone Elk Country Visitor Center.

I have been staying at "The Cozy" for years and have never been disappointed. The home is lovely, Richard and his mom (the breakfast lady) are very nice and friendly, and the house is situated in a nice walking neighborhood for leg-stretching after a drive.

The pool was cold and had green algae on the bottom of it. If you’re going to use the pool you need to take your own towels they do not provide those in the last 20 years we have gone to this place four times and we don’t feel that we want to go back anymore. You can walk to the downtown restaurants so it is a short distance from town.

Very nice and historic B&B in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Elk Country. Rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. The owner is very personable and helpful in advising you on where to eat and places to visit. Would definitely stay there again!

It was very clean and quiet. Very nice room. I gave it a 4 because was disappointed in the breakfast. Only received 2 little pieces of French toast 1 microwave sausage patty and a cup of coffee. I had to ask for water.

Just disappointed. We went down for breakfast and were served 2 pancakes, a slice of watermelon, a sausage patty and coffee. When I mentioned that I could not eat a pancake because I'm diabetic, they took away the pancakes and never offered anything else saying I should've told them about my dietary concerns the day before. We heard cussing in the kitchen when my plate was taken back. Won't go back again!

When we got to town there had been some snow. Snow removal was more than adequate. Since this was mid-week we were the only people checked in so it was very quiet. Breakfast was better than the chain hotels self-serve.

I read a good number of the prior reviews and the one constant I noticed was the number of negative reviews dealing with reservations, and that numerous guests touted Room 54. So, when I made my reservation, I specified Room 54 and received a confirmation for that room. When I arrived, Richard was not on site, but we conversed by phone and he told me where the key would be. It was not for Room 54. He said that the guest in Room 54 decided to stay for an additional night and therefore we were moved to another room. Around 11:00PM that evening, we were a bit warm, so we turned on the air conditioning. By midnight the room had not cooled down, and I could tell the A/C unit was only blowing warm air. Due to the time, we didn't contact Richard but told him about it at breakfast in the morning. He was surprised that it wasn't working and would call someone to get it fixed. We were only staying one night so it wasn't a big deal for us. On the way back to our room, we ran into the guest from Room 54 and mentioned about Richard not knowing the A/C was not working in our room. The guest commented that the A/C was also not working in Room 54 and that Richard was aware of the problem. After the A/C gets fixed, the owners need to fix the wallpaper in the bathroom. Someone had scotch taped every piece of wallpaper to keep it from falling. And now, after many years, the tape has yellowed and is also coming loose. It's time for some routine maintenance.

The steps up to the room were difficult. Only 2 pillows so it was difficult to watch the TV from the bed and there was only a desk chair in the room. The staff were very accommodating.
