This hotel is in an amazing location to enjoy the beach, or to enjoy the gorgeous pool and patio overlooking the beach. Wonderful beach and boardwalk walking, good restaurant on site and others that are walkable. The indoor pool and spa area are large and clean and lovely as well.

Good complimentary breakfast with a selection of tasty eggs, cheeses, and bread options and 3 different juices everyday. Rooms were mostly quiet and soundproof, and room service did a great job keeping everything clean and tidy. Two pools, one heated indoor pool, one outdoor infinity pool with great views into the ocean that lines the back of the hotel complex. No jaccuzi/hot tub but there is a dry sauna and a steam room. Overall loved the hotel and service was very professional and friendly from the staff.

Very close to large supermarket and short walk to a variety of restaurants Buffet breakfast generous and varied. Only minor observation is bar is under staffed I. Hotel Verde Mar is a lovely hotel situated right on the seafront in Ribeira Grande. The staff were courteous, pleasant, and always willing to help. Our room was spacious, bright, and clean — and it’s definitely worth booking one with a sea view, as it includes a lovely outdoor sitting area with a table and chairs. The hotel itself is large, with plenty of comfortable communal areas to sit back and relax. The spa is also very nice and adds to the overall experience. The restaurant and breakfast area are bright and airy, with large windows offering beautiful sea views. There was a great variety of food at breakfast, though it was occasionally slow to be replenished, and a couple of times I had to ask for plates and cups. Overall, it’s a wonderful place to stay, with beautiful views and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

The outdoor pool was very nice, with a great beachfront view. Unfortunately, other aspects were disappointing. The sauna is far too small – with just three people inside it already feels crowded. Towel handling in the spa area is poorly organized: you only get one towel at reception and are expected to use it for everything. Breakfast was good, but service was lacking. We sat on the terrace, where tables were not cleaned between guests and often remained cluttered, despite plenty of staff around. For vegetarians, options were limited; some cream cheese or a savory spread would have been a welcome addition. Our room was extremely hot when we arrived. Although there was air conditioning, we were given only one key card, so the AC turned off whenever we left. We had to request a second card at reception – something they should provide automatically. When we asked if a twin room was available, we were offered two small blankets instead. What we received were just the separate parts (blankets and covers), as if we were meant to make up the bed ourselves. Since a large blanket was already on the bed, we used that instead. For a €400 room, this felt inappropriate. Overall, the location and pool were strong points, but the service and facilities did not match the price.

While I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, I can’t give it more than a three star rating for the following reasons. The food is substandard. Lots of choice at the breakfast but the quality is very inconsistent. One day kiwis were on the buffet. They were hard as a rock and inedible. Some days the pineapple was very good, other days, not so good. I found the cold cuts to be inedible. The lettuce was wilted. The pastry was terrible. The oven baked eggs were a savior. We tried the hotel once for dinner and it did not earn a return visit. I ordered shrimp to start and then pulvo (octopus). Very average. We found mom and pop places all over the island to eat that were cheap and very good. The plastic loungers at the pool were uncomfortable. With regard to the ocean views from the hotel, they are somewhat compromised because the hotel doesn’t clean the windows frequently enough to keep them clear. I understand that the wind, sand, and salt from the ocean can quickly soil the windows. That’s not an excuse. Finally, the gym is located next to the indoor pool. There can be a massive condensation problem in the gym which creates a very hazardous floor. The door to the gym needs to be kept closed and the AC needs to be set on high. This is an accident waiting to happen. In sum, it’s a nice hotel but definitely not luxury.

Sheets were clean but floor in room felt gritty if you walked in bare feet like it isn’t well cleaned between guests. A few stains on balcony door and glass on windows and shower very spotty/ The hallway carpets also had hair clumps that never got vacuumed during our stay so not sure how attentive they are to cleaning. People were friendly and food was good. View of ocean was nice but land between hotel and ocean run down.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. There was some mold in the bathroom though. The complimentary breakfast was good with lots of options. Unfortunately the coffee machine kept breaking down. Overall it was a nice stay.

Zimmer wurde nicht gereinigt. Frühstück war sehr mässig. Früchte nicht frisch und Auswahl wurde jeden Tag kleiner. Schlechtestes Frühstück auf der ganzen Portugalreise. Im Winter bei wenig Gästen nicht zu empfehlen.

I’m so happy we chose to stay at Hotel Verde Mar. It’s a beautiful and modern hotel, the staff are so kind and helpful, the breakfast is delicious, it’s right by the ocean, and parking is free. They also have a separate towel service for going to thermal pools or swimming in the ocean which is convenient. The location is also so great, you can walk into Ribiera Grande for food, and there’s a grocery story 1 minute away. Also again the proximity to the ocean is so nice. The room is quite nice, our room had a balcony overlooking the ocean. I had been concerned about the bathroom having a window into the main room but there is a shade that can be drawn that fully covers it. When I come back to Sao Miguel I will definitely stay here again.

Ein toller Aufenthalt! Der Spa-Bereich ist recht klein, jedoch durchaus schön. Frühstück war üppig, aber etwas eintönig. Trotzdem war alles lecker! Die Zimmer sind geräumig und das Hotel ist angenehm ruhig.

Balcony door was not maintained so that wind was hauling through. Not a good night sleep. Also on the corridor wallpaper is coming down due to water leaks and humidity

Our stay at the hotel was fantastic. The staff was amazing, and the food, more so. During our six night stay, we had diner at the hotel four times, and they were our best meals by far. There is ocean views from almost every room and the hotel is very quiet. Parking is easy and the location is close to many restaurants, museums and a grocery store if you need anything. The pools and the spa are well designed and they are the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the island. The ocean is a two minute walk from the hotel and there is a nice beach with great waves for surfing. The only things negative worth nothing are the design of the washrooms in the rooms where the walls are made of glass panels - some translucid and others tainted. This is not great for intimacy in the shower or on the toilet! Only a mechanized curtain outside the washroom prevents you from looking in. The second thing is the air gaps on the door that leads to the terrace. It was super windy while we were there so there was often a whistling sound of air passing through the door. Appart from these minor details, this place is well worth staying at.

This was a fantastic hotel and we would definitely come back! Location could not be better, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, rooms are spacious and well kept up, and it has everything you need whether you’re staying in or going out exploring. This is truly 5 star hotel. We got a sea view room as planned and it was gorgeous with a balcony overlooking the ocean and falling to sleep listening to sound of the waves was an unbeatable experience. The room was smallish but modern and new with everything was in great working condition. The staff in the hotel was great starting from checkin and waiters in the restaurant were great too, much more attentive and nice than anywhere on our trip. There is really not a single negative about staying in this hotel

Clean modern and spacious suite with a great ocean view. Included breakfast buffet was very good with plenty of food options. Front desk staff were excellent with check-in and check-out as well as assisting with an off-site dinner reservation. We also much appreciated the quietness of the room. Would love to return.

Hotel Verde Mar is a lovely hotel situated right on the seafront in Ribeira Grande. The staff were courteous, pleasant, and always willing to help. Our room was spacious, bright, and clean — and it’s definitely worth booking one with a sea view, as it includes a lovely outdoor sitting area with a table and chairs. The hotel itself is large, with plenty of comfortable communal areas to sit back and relax. The spa is also very nice and adds to the overall experience. The restaurant and breakfast area are bright and airy, with large windows offering beautiful sea views. The Oceanview room had a beautiful view of pool and ocean. The room was nice and clean but the bathroom lacked sufficient lighting and there was not enough storage for your clothes. I don’t like living out of a suitcase for a week. The front staff were attentive and helpful. We enjoyed the lobby music. The included breakfast buffet was fresh, delicious and the view was outstanding.

Staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating- we arrived early after an all night flight, they allowed us to have breakfast and use spa facilities for much needed refresher, and they kept our bags late for us on last day as we had a fishing charter booked. Highly recommend! Plus facility and food are top notch!

Probably the friendliest staff I’ve ever encountered in a hotel. Even the cleaners say hello when you walk past. Great service at the front desk through to the bar and restaurant. We couldn’t fault it. Would definitely stay there if we visit the Azores again

You walked in greeted by big warm smiles of precessional staff. I had a medical emergency and was sent to the ER. The night shift staff stayed with us the whole time while assisting EMT to get me into the ambulance. They even got me some herbal tea, cakes and cookies the next day and wish me a fast recovery. They really went far and beyond to make their guests feel warm, welcoming and comfortable. One of their staff Andrea ( I probably spelled her name wrong) made several dinner reservations for us and reminded us when she saw us. The house keeper did a phenomenal job. We will definitely stay there again.

All staff was incredible and greeted me in Portuguese while other hotels greet you in English. I go for the culture not to feel like I never left my country, so keep it up folks. A shout out to Fabiana, Ruben #1 and Ruben #2, Andre, Paulo, Pedro and Alexander. Its the people that make us feel at home and this team made our stay incredible. Verde Mar is my #1 location moving forward and I have been to the island 14 times. Great location and walkable city. Restaurant offers amazing food and wine selection. Breakfast buffet is on point. Pool with food service is great as well. The fact one can walk down a path to a big beach is a bonus. Rooms are spacious and well stocked. I actually have no complaints and simply loved this spot.

The bellhop was a bit too eager and made me uncomfortable as a single female. He kept wanting to carry my backpack (I refused) and walked me to my room (I didn’t ask him to, I am fully competent to read door numbers) and then when I got to my room, asked if he could come in and “show me how things worked” (again I refused). I did my best to dodge him the rest of my stay.

The outdoor pool was very nice, with a great beachfront view. Unfortunately, other aspects were disappointing. The sauna is far too small – with just three people inside it already feels crowded. Towel handling in the spa area is poorly organized: you only get one towel at reception and are expected to use it for everything. Breakfast was good, but service was lacking. We sat on the terrace, where tables were not cleaned between guests and often remained cluttered, despite plenty of staff around. For vegetarians, options were limited; some cream cheese or a savory spread would have been a welcome addition. Our room was extremely hot when we arrived. Although there was air conditioning, we were given only one key card, so the AC turned off whenever we left. We had to request a second card at reception – something they should provide automatically. When we asked if a twin room was available, we were offered two small blankets instead. What we received were just the separate parts (blankets and covers), as if we were meant to make up the bed ourselves. Since a large blanket was already on the bed, we used that instead. For a €400 room, this felt inappropriate. Overall, the location and pool were strong points, but the service and facilities did not match the price.

I’m so happy we chose to stay at Hotel Verde Mar. It’s a beautiful and modern hotel, the staff are so kind and helpful, the breakfast is delicious, it’s right by the ocean, and parking is free. They also have a separate towel service for going to thermal pools or swimming in the ocean which is convenient. The location is also so great, you can walk into Ribiera Grande for food, and there’s a grocery story 1 minute away. Also again the proximity to the ocean is so nice. The room is quite nice, our room had a balcony overlooking the ocean. I had been concerned about the bathroom having a window into the main room but there is a shade that can be drawn that fully covers it. When I come back to Sao Miguel I will definitely stay here again.

Ribeira Grande is a bit remote from Central Ponta Delgada, but everything is far away around the island anyway. A rental car is a must in São Miguel and having a car will make your experience more enjoyable all around.

Lovely setting overlooking the ocean and a short walk to the beach. Great central location making it easy to get anywhere on the island in 15-60 minutes. Breakfast buffet was amazing. Staff were wonderful--friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Parking was available in site with a grocery store across the street for convenience. The property looks on to the beach but if you are bringing young children you should be aware that its a 5 min walk to get on to the beach.

Having a room with a deck facing the ocean was awesome. Great location with only 10 minute walk to Santa Barbara Beach one way and 10 minute walk the other for several good restaurants to choose from.

We enjoyed our 6 night stay in the beginning of October. Very nice hotel with great amenities. Rooms, Pools, spa, gym, game room. Everything clean and comfortable. Ocean views are breathtaking. Breakfast is very good, but find another place for a dinner. We will be definitely coming back.

The hotel is in a good location, overlooking the ocean and withing walking distance to restaurants & shops, free parking. The hotel is quite new and has nice size rooms, well decorated and nice common areas, good spa, outdoor areas. The breakfast buffet was a bit repetitive (we were there 5 days) and it was the same each day. The dinner buffet was not worth the money - nothing was very good. The lunch options were good except hamburgers weren't cooked enough (make sure to ask for well done!). Wait staff were friendly & helpful.

Hotel Verde Mar is a lovely hotel situated right on the seafront in Ribeira Grande. The staff were courteous, pleasant, and always willing to help. Our room was spacious, bright, and clean — and it’s definitely worth booking one with a sea view, as it includes a lovely outdoor sitting area with a table and chairs. The hotel itself is large, with plenty of comfortable communal areas to sit back and relax. The spa is also very nice and adds to the overall experience. The restaurant and breakfast area are bright and airy, with large windows offering beautiful sea views. There was a great variety of food at breakfast, though it was occasionally slow to be replenished, and a couple of times I had to ask for plates and cups. Overall, it’s a wonderful place to stay, with beautiful views and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

The outdoor pool was very nice, with a great beachfront view. Unfortunately, other aspects were disappointing. The sauna is far too small – with just three people inside it already feels crowded. Towel handling in the spa area is poorly organized: you only get one towel at reception and are expected to use it for everything. Breakfast was good, but service was lacking. We sat on the terrace, where tables were not cleaned between guests and often remained cluttered, despite plenty of staff around. For vegetarians, options were limited; some cream cheese or a savory spread would have been a welcome addition. Our room was extremely hot when we arrived. Although there was air conditioning, we were given only one key card, so the AC turned off whenever we left. We had to request a second card at reception – something they should provide automatically. When we asked if a twin room was available, we were offered two small blankets instead. What we received were just the separate parts (blankets and covers), as if we were meant to make up the bed ourselves. Since a large blanket was already on the bed, we used that instead. For a €400 room, this felt inappropriate. Overall, the location and pool were strong points, but the service and facilities did not match the price.

While I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, I can’t give it more than a three star rating for the following reasons. The food is substandard. Lots of choice at the breakfast but the quality is very inconsistent. One day kiwis were on the buffet. They were hard as a rock and inedible. Some days the pineapple was very good, other days, not so good. I found the cold cuts to be inedible. The lettuce was wilted. The pastry was terrible. The oven baked eggs were a savior. We tried the hotel once for dinner and it did not earn a return visit. I ordered shrimp to start and then pulvo (octopus). Very average. We found mom and pop places all over the island to eat that were cheap and very good. The plastic loungers at the pool were uncomfortable. With regard to the ocean views from the hotel, they are somewhat compromised because the hotel doesn’t clean the windows frequently enough to keep them clear. I understand that the wind, sand, and salt from the ocean can quickly soil the windows. That’s not an excuse. Finally, the gym is located next to the indoor pool. There can be a massive condensation problem in the gym which creates a very hazardous floor. The door to the gym needs to be kept closed and the AC needs to be set on high. This is an accident waiting to happen. In sum, it’s a nice hotel but definitely not luxury.

Excellent location in the middle of Sao Miguel Island... about 18 minute drive from the Airport in Ponta Delgado. Great Pool, Gym and Spa amenities. Fantastic Breakfast Buffet with so much variety. The Staff are very nice, helpful and friendly. Their restaurant hostess Fabiana gave us all the great restaurant recommendations and Luis Silva was helpful as our concierge.

Lovely location, great views. The only thing I found disappointing was the quality of the food for breakfast which was not up to the standard of everything thing else about this hotel. Eg Powdered scrambled eggs are not cool

Loved the hotel. The location with view to the ocean is magnificent. The staff members were very helpful and the amenities were lovely. Also, it's very helpful that the hotel provides a service to obtain a car rental. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again!

Séjour très agréable. Personnel très sympathique et à l’écoute. Hotel élégant, moderne à proximité du centre ville et de la plage. Chambre spacieuse avec lit très confortable et grande salle de bains. Superbe vue sur l’océan. Nombreux services appréciables (parking, piscines, très bon restaurant…). Emplacement parfait pour la visite de l’île.

Very nice hotel on the beach. Great view of the ocean from our spacious room. Generally a high standard friendly and helpful staff and well maintained building. Pool area great for sun and relaxing after a day of activity. Only letdown and a great disappointment was the breakfast buffet. It did not match the overall standard of the hotel. Lots of premade canned food. Dry bread and overly sweet pastries. No station for fresh made eggs or omelets. The scrambled eggs was baked in big trays rather than scrambled the fried eggs was dry and boiled eggs cold a cooked so much that the yolks had turned grey. There were no fresh juice shots or boosters only one kind of yogurt. Only two kinds of cheese both dry and sweaty and cured ham cut so thick that it was hard to chew. In general it lacked some finesse. Our impression was the experience and quality of a cafeteria more than that of a restaurant. Because of the quality of the breakfast we did not try the restaurant for lunch or dinner. I would give the hotel a 5/5 rating if it was not for the breakfast.

The space was clean & modern looking, we found the beds rock hard and the most uncomfortable out of 3 different hotels we stayed at in Ponta Delgado, the food and drinks at the hotel were not very good at all and pool bar area was open just a couple hrs everyday.

Sound proofing non existent between rooms and corridors one can hear everything !*. No hinges on room doors so they are continually slamming . Chairs and tables continually being scrapped as they have no rubbers on the feet so terrible noise. Poor choices and only a few for lunch and dinner not up to standard. Nice location though but only if you have a room with ocean view otherwise it’s on a noisy main road. It’s a four star mid range at the most even the rooms were quite basic.
