Bayside Resort - 36486 Wild Rose

Great house

We rented 36487 Wild Rose Circle in Bayside for 2 weeks in June and had a very unfortunate experience. We rented it for a family get-together. Imagine arriving to discover an overpowering foul smell and noise in the laundry room due to birds nesting in the dryer vent. The dryer knob was taped up with a note stating it was broken and could not be used. Our next discovery was a note in the freezer that the ice maker was broken. The house is dirty (stained walls and furniture), the furniture is inadequate for the number of guests advertised for and old and uncomfortable, and most lamps do not work so the lighting is terrible. Some of the dining room chairs, as well as the bar stools are wobbly and in need of repair. Reporting these issues to Vacasa proved to be very time consuming and ineffective. We were asked to send pictures of broken appliances only to be told that although it was reported, it was up the owner’s responsibility to fix. So, until this house is thoroughly cleaned and updated with new carpet, furniture and working appliances, we would not recommend anyone stay at this location. We understand this is harsh, but we have rented several places over many years at Bayside Resort and this rental does not meet the standards we expect.

The home is lovely, spacious, and well laid out for a large family. It has a large screen porch and is in a great location. Some items need attention that could make the stay less pleasant, especially for a large group. The dishwasher and ice maker do not work, for example, and the washing machine leaks and is terribly loud. Also, there are no garbage bins and no garbage pickup at this house; you have to take your trash and recyclables to dumpsters on the resort property, which requires putting them into your car and driving to drop off the trash.

Pros- the house easily accommodated our multi generation family of 10, with room for multiple chefs in the kitchen and everyone at the table. The resort, as always, was a pleasure to spend time at. The cons- the owner has chosen not to allow the use of the required garbage cans, which was not disclosed when we booked, or mentioned anywhere on the listing at the time we stayed there. Instead we were told (when we reached out to ask where they were) we should transport our trash to the dumpster. We’ve done this before on departure day, but never before had to do this with every bag of garbage all week, and this also prevents any recycling. The owner has also chosen to keep the front door locked and not provide a key. This made us very nervous in case of a fire or other emergency, and isn’t even legal in our home state. The grill was small and seemingly never cleaned- using it the first night was a fiery job, then our grill master gave it a proper cleaning. And while the home was supposed to be pet free, my daughter’s allergies flared up on 2 of the 3 sofas and in the master bedroom. We will definitely return to Bayside, but not this house, and when booking we will now know to ask about garbage cans.
