the hotel & surrounding area very unique. Didnt like that the room was so small & no refrigerator the continental breakfast was not great. the restaurant as closed only bar food and only 1 restaurant in the area

The hotel itself is quite lovely. Very old world 1890s era charm and craftsmanship. The room was pleasant and clean, very high ceilings and large windows. The bed was very comfortable. With all that said, the hotel was built before cars. It's very tight and we did not expect to have to park appropriately 1/8th mile away. We are perfectly capable of the walk, and they do offer valet parking and shuttle options. But I feel they should make that known for older folks. Also the bathroom, clean as it was, left me a bit disappointed. Everything worked, but the shower was sad. The staff we dealt with was mostly pleasant and helpful. If you wish to have a view of the lake, you want the East side of the hotel I believe

We enjoyed staying at the historical hotel. I think parking could be better explained and assistance should be available to get you back to your car with all of your bags. We got a ride to the front gate - but ended up walking with all of our bags to our car in the very back parking lot. RIDICULOUS!

We were glad to be in the annex because there was a wedding reception in the main stay. Clean. Only problem was that some of the wedding guests did stay in the annex and were loud in the hallways after midndight.

The hotel itself is quite lovely. Very old world 1890s era charm and craftsmanship. The room was pleasant and clean, very high ceilings and large windows. The bed was very comfortable. Had a really nice stay at this historic hotel by the lake despite it being quite run down. Had a beautiful view from the balcony of our room but didn't want to sit in any of the furniture. Wicker furniture was in bad shape and the seat cushions were all very dirty. Should be replaced with more durable outdoor furniture that doesn't need cushions and could easily be wiped down.The whole hotel is in need of some tlc. Could be so beautiful but money definitely needs to be spent for restoring both the interior and exterior.

The front desk staff were quite friendly and helpful. The bar and food service staff were also personable and helpful. We chose this hotel because my wife stayed here as a child years ago. We were told by others around town that the Athenaeum was last refurbished in 1984. The lobby was refreshed more recently. As other reviewers have stated, if you want to stay at a historic hotel, you'll appreciate the Atheneum, but if you want a pristine room, updated technologies and services, and a diverse menus I'd recommend staying elsewhere. The common spaces at this hotel were in better condition than our room, which had a sloping floor, chipping paint, a stained armchair, and mildew growing on the ceiling in the bathroom. The bed seemed to be memory foam style and a tad soft, but we slept decently. The in-room TV was quite small and did not carry true HD TV. The Wifi was password secured which is so important but very rate in hotels. We had solid connection in the lobby, but it was good to marginal in our room. There was an excessive quantity of spiders and webs on the exterior of the hotel. Not sure why they don't treat for them and remove webs.

this was a beautiful hotel with the wrap around porch, stairs and fountain. it did need a new coat of paint and regardless it was lovely. some of the furniture in the interior was not as attractive as it could have been. stay with a theme! all in all, this was a unique experience and i was happy to stay here.

This is an old Hotel, built 1881, and its’ floors are a bit creaky and uneven. But that adds to the charm. Amazing porches with fantastic views of Lake Chautauqua. Bed was comfortable and room was clean.

We enjoyed stepping back in time to admire the unique building style of the 1880's. The room was a little smaller than most hotels, except New York City, but was very comfortable. It was a very pleasant experience staying at the Athenaeum Hotel and very relaxing. Also, the "Continental Breakfast" was way beyond the norm...excellent. There were plenty of choices and stocked very well. This was indeed an unexpected bonus. Lastly, walking around the hotel and Chatauqua Institution was very enjoyable.

We enjoyed staying at the historical hotel. I think parking could be better explained and assistance should be available to get you back to your car with all of your bags. We got a ride to the front gate - but ended up walking with all of our bags to our car in the very back parking lot. RIDICULOUS!

The front desk staff were quite friendly and helpful. The bar and food service staff were also personable and helpful. We chose this hotel because my wife stayed here as a child years ago. We were told by others around town that the Athenaeum was last refurbished in 1984. The lobby was refreshed more recently. As other reviewers have stated, if you want to stay at a historic hotel, you'll appreciate the Atheneum, but if you want a pristine room, updated technologies and services, and a diverse menus I'd recommend staying elsewhere. The common spaces at this hotel were in better condition than our room, which had a sloping floor, chipping paint, a stained armchair, and mildew growing on the ceiling in the bathroom. The bed seemed to be memory foam style and a tad soft, but we slept decently. The in-room TV was quite small and did not carry true HD TV. The Wifi was password secured which is so important but very rate in hotels. We had solid connection in the lobby, but it was good to marginal in our room. There was an excessive quantity of spiders and webs on the exterior of the hotel. Not sure why they don't treat for them and remove webs.

Our stay was unique and opened our eyes to an area we've never seen. We enjoy looking at the map and picking places that look different for our overnight stays during road trips that lead us here. Off season for this area made for a great rate. Wonderful time.

We enjoyed stepping back in time to admire the unique building style of the 1880's. The room was a little smaller than most hotels, except New York City, but was very comfortable. It was a very pleasant experience staying at the Athenaeum Hotel and very relaxing. Also, the "Continental Breakfast" was way beyond the norm...excellent. There were plenty of choices and stocked very well. This was indeed an unexpected bonus. Lastly, walking around the hotel and Chatauqua Institution was very enjoyable.

Beautiful historic hotel and town. It's like going back in time 150 years. The whole little town is very well kept. The staff at the hotel is wonderfull.Already planning to come back.

This is an old Hotel, built 1881, and its’ floors are a bit creaky and uneven. But that adds to the charm. Amazing porches with fantastic views of Lake Chautauqua. Bed was comfortable and room was clean.

the hotel & surrounding area very unique. Didnt like that the room was so small & no refrigerator the continental breakfast was not great. the restaurant as closed only bar food and only 1 restaurant in the area

Best night sleep in a long time. Quaint vintage Victorian hotel with period style rooms. Very spacious and comfortable. Our first room didn't have any electrical outlets or nightstands so Garrett the manager upgraded us to a nicer, bigger room with a semi- private balcony. The grounds are amazing. the hotel was closed for season during our stay so there wasn't any activities or amenities. We kept busy by strolling the immense property and just relaxing and taking in the views. The breakfast was nice and simple. Coffee and tea were available in the lobby 24 hrs. Parking was very far away and I wish they could figure out a more convenient location after season. Definatley worth the visit if you are in the area.

A charming building in a historically interesting location. Restaurant was closed during my visit, though, and parking was inconvenient. Ended up with a very expensive dinner elsewhere. Probably a better choice for a long-term stay. Not particularly convenient for a stop-over on a road trip.
