Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Kansas City Shawnee

There were still renovations going on. The staff seemed a bit uneducated. The shower leaked all over the floor. Parking was terrible. The pool area had towels just thrown onto the floor. Waffle iron was broken. Two apples in the bunch were rotting. My pillows smelled rancid.

No one was at the front desk for 15 minutes after we arrived to check in. When I called the number listed on desk sign I got an answering machine. Elevator did not work, ice and soda machines inop and a/c in one of the rooms I had booked did not work

We were in town for a softball tournament, traveling with little kids. I hand picked this hotel so the kids would be able to swim in our downtime. We arrived and the pool was closed all weekend. Front desk said we were welcome to use the pool at the hotel next door. Went there and it was not heated. It was 55 degrees out. I expected the cost of the room to be higher because of the indoor pool. I did not expect it to not be available. False advertising. And a refund, at least partial should be offered. Room was ok. Bathroom hadn’t been cleaned very well, hair and dirt on the floor.

I’ve stayed in a lot of Fairfield’s and this experience was by far the worst. Even though the facility had been updated, there were a lot of issues. Our rooms smelled of dirty mop Water and silver, it was bad enough to where we had to open the windows and blast the fans. The hotel was having lots of electrical issues. My room Had a light what wouldn’t turn off and I had to Sleep the first night by covering the fixture with a shirt. After requesting repairs, it wasn’t fixed and I ended up taking the fixture apart to unscrew the light bulb. In my co-workers room she said it her sheets didn’t seem clean and smelled of another person. We went down in a hurry for breakfast at 7:30am and there wasn’t any food out. We waited 15 minutes and they slowly started to Bring out a few items but we finally just left and had to Eat breakfast on the road. The second night I tried to go Down to work Out in the gym and there was an older gentleman working out in the dark. At first I thought he was doing it intentionally, but then on night two it happened to me and I learned that the staff was turning off the lights without checking to see if the gym was occupied. Additionally the gym equipment was covered in ceiling debris from electrical repairs both nights and never cleaned and the gym towels weren’t restocked so I could do it myself. Also. The elevator reeked of marijuana the entire stay.

From checkin with James, to checkout our stay was wonderful. Nice room, amazing breakfast, and my husband was pleased with the gym. Parking was great, easy to access from I-435 and within walking stance of restaurants, convenience stores and entertainment. All around great stay!

Elevator not working properly. Alarm went off and slow to open. We reported it but never fixed during our stay

No WIFI. Pool was closed our entire 2 day 2 night stay. Construction remodeling noise early mornings. No hair dryer in the room. Sorry can’t recommend it.

Sorry but elevator sounded like it needed a tune-up, kinda scary. Towel rack was off the wall in bathroom. Rubber mat for shower was nasty looking. Bathroom on lobby floor not available for guests.

This hotel was just “ok” at best. Some of the positives that took this property from terrible to ok include- amazing breakfast; friendly and welcoming staff; great fitness center; the option for adjoining rooms for larger families (we had 6 people total in our group). Some of the negatives- the pool was so disgusting and cold; the pictures online make it look like a large pool but it’s not. I’d say maybe 12ft by 8ft. And that can feel incredibly small after 6-8 kids are in there at once. The pool area wasn’t cleaned once during our stay and it was evident by the trash around the pool that was there when we arrived on Thursday afternoon and still there when we left on Sunday morning. They never had any clean pool towels available or a place to put the used ones so there was just a pile of them by the trash can. And the smell of the pool area was overwhelming once you opened the door to it and it was of what I can best describe as fecal matter. The elevator had a terrible shake and noise when coming to a stop; we had 2 rooms and each had minor issues that would coincide with an older, rundown hotel that hasn’t been properly maintained (for example- bathroom door handle wouldn’t work unless slamming the door shut; bathroom vent had a loud banging noise like something was inside of it and ramming into it; tv channels didn’t work; lights didn’t work near beds; no bedding provided for the pullout couch unless requested) I’d pass on this one unless you’re just passing through.

The first room i was given, wasn’t even cleaned. The second room, at least the bed was clean. But there was hair in the sink. Didn’t look like the floor was swept or vacuumed. Luckily, we just needed a clean bed to sleep in.

Our stay was fine. Nothing special. I’m convinced there may be some mold somewhere on the first floor as there was stains on the ceiling tiles.

Then I checked my bank account and they tried to charge me twice for our stay. And they had cold food on a cart at the desk that sat out for several hours before it was put up. The desk manger did not know what he was doing this weekend. Several people were heated d/t the double booking rooms. I will tell you that the gen manager this morning fixed the second charge on my account and refunded us a nights stay. His name is Johnny and he was very helpful!

The TV did not work and they never sent anyone to lokk at it. Also, all light on wall with beds did not work. The AC was great, but thats about it.

Room was wonderful and comfortable. Breakfast was great as well would come back again. Only 2 small downfall was pool was out of commission due to chemicals not being balanced which it is what it is, we were just super excited to go swimming. 2nd issue was upon check out I had to stand there and wait awhile for someone, no bell to ring, my husband went behind the desk to find the front desk worker sleeping in the office. She quickly woke and got us checked out.

Beds were very comfortable. The lady who checked us in was literally the MOST FRIENDLY and helpful ever! My teen remarked how absolutely nice and kind she went out of her way to be!

The room was noisy, could hear TV in the next room and people walking in the room above us.

Interesting. We arrived around 4:00 in the afternoon and waiting for over 45 min to be checked in but NOBODY ever came!! We called the hotel number and looked all around the hotel, including outside, but not one single employee was found. We eventually had to leave to get to a softball game. There were about 20 other guests looking so someone as well. Needless to say, we will never return.

Absolutely horrible service. Our party waited over and hour to check in because there was no staff on site. When we returned 3 hours later to check in, there still wasn’t any staff to check us in. We called a service number to finally have a non-employee check us in.

The staff provided excellent service and was very professional.

Chose this property dude to its proximity to Children’s Mercy Park. There are plenty of restaurants around with in walking distance and plenty of free parking. The room was fine for the price and the continental breakfast was good. Staff was friendly, I would stay here again.

Nice and quiet. In a good area less then 10 mins to get to places.

I had a lady check me in that was brand new and no one around to help her. She was having a hard time checking me in because I had prepaid thru expedia. Also, there was no caffeinated coffee in the room or at breakfast. Need more staff.

Great place to stay. Room was clean. Breakfast was good too.

The facility, the room and amenities were all beautiful and really nice. Things like the body wash was empty In the shower, there were no washcloths with the bath towels, the toaster didn't work, the breakfast items wasn't stocked and there wasn't any staff in the dining area to help and there wasn't anyone at the front desk or a bell to call for assistance to check out. It's a nice enough place, I would return, just be prepared double check everything before you settle in and give yourself extra time to locate staff to help

Always love staying at a Fairfield Inn. Love the Breakfast and the staff are always friendly and helpful. This stay and this property was no different.
