The Winston Solvang

Great location! Easy to walk to everything! Check-in was not super efficient. Due to no one being onsite, having to call and then wait for an email to get in is not super convenient. The touch keypad to our door did not work properly. We had to touch it up to ten times (every time we came in the door) for it to light up in order to put in the code. Then when we left our room it would not lock right away, we had to mess with the keypad again several times for it to lock. Maintenance was sent to fix it and it did work better for a day, but then started having problems again. The day we were checking out the elevator was having problems; making beeping noises and taking double the time for the doors to open and close and then for it to descend/ascend. The touch light switch in the bathroom would not work properly either. We ended up just closing the bathroom door so the light did not come into our room. Seems like a little maintenance is needed. Otherwise, it was furnished very nicely and the bed was comfy!

The decor, free and easy self-park, room amenities, self-check in features, security, and easy access to staff by text message are amazing. The price for what is offered is unbeatable. We came for a one night stay and immediately extended for a second night!

The hotel is in the heart of Solvang. It is extremely walkable and close to restaurants, bakeries and shops. It is a very small hotel but the rooms are big. There is no pool or hot tub.

Best location for walking everywhere in town, clean, pet friendly(park right across street), easy check in, easy building and room access via code and good staff responsiveness. 2 things to know - walls are thin and you can hear everything (people speaking loudly on street, large trucks driving by and noise from guests walking down halls, opening doors etc). Also water in bathroom sink never got hot (or even lukewarm) Elevator was not working and under repair but was not an issue for our stay

Staff is great. Lauren helped me through the process. Location of hotel is A+. This hotel is for seasoned traverlers who want a great place to stay. No pool spa etc. Room balcony looked over the park and the Irish Pub was right underneath my room. Fun.

Nice, over-sized rooms. Well appointed. This is a no- contact hotel. There is no lobby. You check-in by phone. However, the staff on the other end is very accomodating. The hotel sits on the 3nd & 3rd floors, above the local Irish Pub. Private parking and an elevator. Very quiet and walking distance to anywhere in Solvang. Will definitely stay here again.

Very nice and large suite. Bed is a tad too hard, towels need updating, and your pillows aren’t the best too soft. Tv difficult to operate with the remote. No EV charging; GET THIS PLEASE

The location is great, walking distance from everything (cafes, restaurants, bakeries, breweries and the trolley tour). We had an issue with our shower but it was fixed within the hour 👍. There is construction underneath the hotel due to a new winery (not sure when construction will be completed) a little bit of noise but only during work hours of course. Hotel has self check in and check out , no front desk. Inside of hotel is very nice and clean with a stocked honor bar. Parking is tight but outside parking is available. Great fun stay with my family.

The property and room were comfortable The only negative was that the counter had a sticky food substance on it othetwise the room was clean.

There's no one around to help when there's a problem, we couldn't even check in because no one sent the info like room number and door code, the room was overpriced and noisy, barely got hot water in the shower, someone puked on the curtains and no one cleaned it up.

We were completely surprised by The Winston. It was absolutely wonderful! Right in downtown Solvang, walkable to everything. Modern, elegant, spotless and very chic. Huge bedroom and separate bathroom, with a living room, as well. Wish we booked for a longer stay. Just know that there is no in-person contact. They email and/or text codes to get into your room but there is staff available by phone and text to help. We had to call to confirm our check-in code and the staff was immediate and helpful. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Hotel is very cute in the center of town. Our room was very large with 2 king beds and a very nice bathroom. The room had an included noise machine to help with the sounds from the bar below. The room also had skylights but unfortunately one of the shade motors was not working and the shade only closed half way. Otherwise, very nice and would return.

Adorable room in amazing location and walking distance to the entire town. A bit noisy street but room had a white noise machine with bird song playing when we first opened the door. TV did not work but room was clean and spacious....air vent on wall blows hard onto heads in bed and had to be shut off to sleep. Air BNB feel....

Our stay at The Winston was great, we booked a second night. Rooms are amazing. Such beautiful work went into the design of each room. Will stay here again.

Beatiful rooms

Very nice rooms, very spacious, and clean! Bed was super comfortable and it was quiet at night. There should be a sticker or notice on the door to tell you to lock the room by using the keypad.

Cons The electronic door code did not work and as there are no staff on site this was a nightmare. The air con/ lighting etc all digital and hard to work. This room 12 was not well marked and it was impossible to find, you have to use the elevator and cannot access the stairs. The map of property was on wrong side of the door. There was no easily visible number 12 from the elevator. This room in not in the main building and is over an Irish bar with loud music. No good light to outside only internal to hotel. Shower was adequate but lacked pressure. Pros It is central and has parking Large marble bathroom shame about the small shower head Large room and very comfortable beds Bath ropes and slippers were great and great shampoo/body wash. I would not stay again due to the digital codes and pain dealing with getting in and out of the room and digital electronics inside the room which were difficult to work and the fact that the room is not in the main hotel and is over a bar with music. The music did go off by 9pm during the week but check what time it goes off at weekends if you are considering staying here.

I was given a room on 2nd flr, across the small bridge from the main building where the conference room and other suites were. It was very spacious, decor is quite modern and nice. Craftmanship with bathroom was subpar at best, but overall ambience was good and had the luxury vibe. The highlight here was the shower, awesome water pressure. Two things that did bother me, and are key factors in my return here. One, when I got there, I got a text saying that I can text/call them for assistance with anything. Cool. It just so happens that our TV cable stopped working (was not late, maybe 8pm). I texted and called the number that welcomed me. Absolute silence, no response at all. I did get a text message back the next morning, though they completely ignored my message, and asked me to rate my first night experience from 1-10. It was quite ironic. I assume there was a technical issue, I don't imagine hotel like this would ignore me, but nevertheless I never was able to get any help from staff. Two, as I mentioned earlier, this room, along with 2 others which seem to have decent looking balconies overlooking the main street, are on a separate building, with the room door exposed to the catwalk. I.e. motel set up. It also happens that these rooms are right above the Fitzgerald's. Loud music (until 9pm) and you can hear the machines (kitchen - fridge, etc.) when trying to sleep.

Went 2 weeks before Christmas, it was a very nice spot compared to some of the hotels in the area, there’s no staff on site, it’s all done over the phone which is convenient, room was clean, plenty of space, with a nice bathroom. Only complaint would be the walls are a little in the thinner side, If you’re on the bottom floor you’ll hear your upstairs neighbors stomping around, and you’ll be able to hear your neighbors beside you talk. Definitely will be going back regardless.

If you've ever dreamed of checking into a hotel without seeing a single staff member, you're in luck. This place operates entirely via email and text—like staying in a cozy bed and breakfast run by friendly ghosts. The invisible staff are oddly comforting, always available, yet never spotted. Now, the real adventure? Arriving on a summer Wednesday. Thanks to the local farmer’s market, guests are directed to a barricade west of the park, down an alley next to the public restrooms (yes, really). From there, you're escorted by car through the market. Shoppers part like it’s the world's most polite parade—of one very confused guest vehicle. It's equal parts awkward and legendary. Once inside, though, it’s a gem. It’s got all the amenities you’d expect from a high-end stay, but with the cozy soul of a B&B. Cute gathering spots, the amenities are spot-on, and everything in town is walkable. It’s right next to a beautiful park and directly behind the friendliest little Irish pub you'll ever stumble out of. In conclusion: 10/10 would be guided through a maze of heirloom tomatoes again. The invisible staff? Lovely ghosts. The vibe? Wholesome yet mysterious. Just be sure to arrive with a sense of adventure—and maybe a horn to clear the kale crowd..

The room was clean, bigger than we thought it was going to be and beautiful (loved the way it was decorated). The room's amenities were great and was exactly as it was listed on the website. There was an honor bar, which we did not personally use, but nice to have. The location of the hotel was right in the middle of Solvang and it's walkable to everything. There is parking, but the day we were there, there was a farmer's market so the street was closed. Now, we opted to wait and move our car later, but they did say that we could wait in a particular area and they would let us in (instructions were provided). The only issue we had was during check in. We never received the email with check-in information and when we called, they said that they tried to call me earlier and they were not able to reach me (I would assume that the information would have been shared by Expedia, but I guess not). I will say that the people who assisted us were really nice and helpful, but it was still frustrating. When we got to the room, from the second we attempted to put in our door code, it would not work. The hotel did send out two really nice people who were eventually able to reset the code and we were able to get into the room. This situation is the only reason why we couldn’t say that it was excellent, but we would give it another chance in the future.

First the positive - Large and roomy with a very comfortable bed. Nice open beam ceiling was charming. The negative - we could not access the entry door to the hotel. I called the help line and he sent a maid to try to help. After 30 minutes she could not fix our access problem so we went to our room and unpacked. The maid came later and said they had fixed the glitch with my code and then it worked. They wasted an hour of my time standing outside in the heat!!

The Winston is an absolute gem! The contactless experience was smooth and well-organized, making for a stress-free stay. I accidentally booked the wrong date, but Sabrina was incredibly helpful over the phone—she quickly resolved the issue and made sure I had a room when I arrived. Her assistance turned what could have been a stressful situation into a seamless and enjoyable experience. The hotel itself is stunning. The decor is stylish and thoughtfully curated, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The room was spacious and beautifully designed, but the highlight was the bathroom—large, elegant, and featuring a luxurious shower that felt like a spa retreat. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the addition of a sound machine was a wonderful touch that made for a perfect night’s sleep. If you're looking for a unique, comfortable, and hassle-free stay in Solvang, The Winston is the perfect choice. I can't wait to return!

Marcy greated us at the property, Marcy is so amazing and personable, she made our stay so enjoyable, the room is amazing very high end parking was easy, much nicer in person then any pics. Marcy recommanded restaurants and places to go, she checked on us to see if we need anything, trully more then a 5 star vacation.

Checking in was fine and the room was quiet. When we came back from a warm day of sightseeing the AC did not work. I texted the number I was given and was told the hotel was aware and would have it fixed that night. We asked to move to another room but were discouraged to do so because it is supposed to be noisy. We left for dinner, and the room was still hot and requested to move. The new code did not work and maintenance had to let us in. The new room was quiet. Why did the hotel not want us to move? If the hotel knew about the AC problem, why didn't they work on it before we complained? The woman that we texted with said the hotel would contact us about compensation for the trouble we had. No person from The Winston has contacted us. I advise staying at a different hotel.

Me and my girlfriend stayed at The Winston for 3 days and was very surprised with how easy the check in was. An employee called us a few days before our stay to confirm the reservation and gave us instructions for check in and where to park. The parking area would've been hard to find if it wasn't for the call. This hotel is convenient as it is in the middle of downtown and was walking distance to museums, stores and wine places. The only downside of this place during our stay was the noise. We booked a queen suite on the 1st floor which was clean and looked nice with all the decor. Everything the you would normally see in a hotel was supplied. However, the people that was booked across the hallway from us was very loud especially during quiet hours which as 10PM to 8AM. Another issue was that the people booked above us either had kids or was playing tag throughout the whole day as we were hearing their loud foot steps. This ruined some of our nights when we were trying to get good sleep on this relaxing vacation. Overall, i would recommend this place for pure convenience of the spot. Otherwise, stay somewhere else if you want some real peace and quiet.

Our 2nd stay in as many years. Winston is great for large rooms, convenient location and parking, pet friendly, and bright, eclectic decor borrowed from Kit Kemp Designs at the very upscale Firmdale Hotels in London and NY. But this is an old converted wood frame structure with a few negatives: Room 12 is right over Fitzpatrick bar and morning deliveries of idling diesel trucks are annoying. Doors and windows are far from soundproof in fact the light wind blew the sheer drapes inside with the doors locked. Water pressure is abysmal - I get the water saving needed in this dry area, but it was challenging to rinse the soap off with so little water - the stream was “droopy”. No staff - virtual digital check in which was fine; friendly text exchanges. Honor bar and in-room Nespresso machine is nice but a little skimpy on the coffee creamers provided. A dressing mirror would have been nice - and there is plenty of room - we both had to get ready for a wedding in front of the one bathroom mirror over the sink. I would say Winston is a great concept and thoughtfully executed, but a little more TLC and attention to details above is called for. But, with only a cleaner - no front desk, no manager on site, it feels like “out of sight, out of mind” might be a factor.

The no staffed lobby code entry, Honor system, and overall uniqueness made this a great stay! Across the street is a great coffee shop open later than others and endless bakery options close by. There is no lobby/staff which was unusual but they're available via phone. The lobby was lovely & they have snacks/beverages available via the honor bar.

Very clean, new, stylish and quiet. Happy hour is held in the lounge with delicious cheese and cracker hors d'oeuvres and quality wine. The staff is friendly and attentive. Our stay was awesome and we cant wait to visit again.

Everything was lovely. My one complaint is there is no information in the room on how things work. I still don't know how to correctly operate the Nespresso. We didn't know you had to touch the key pad on the door to lock it. We thought it was automatic and left the room with the door unlocked, then accidentally figured out how to lock it. Could have used information on how to operate the heat/air. Also, there is a lobby with a refrigerator and you can take some but how does it work? Do you get charged? How much? We were not told there would be a farmer's market on the street and we would not be able to get our car out of the parking lot for 6 hours. There is no front desk but they are a call away and helped us when our TV remote didn't work. They're onsite (?) person came quickly and was great. We were afraid of breaking things because we didn't have information. Still, highly recommend the Winston.
