Blue Moon Resort & Motel

The property is under construction so not appealing to the eye however the lake is beautiful. There was an issue with Asian Beetles in the room. There was no other space available for us to move to so we had to deal with it. We were offered a vacuum to suck of the bugs ourselves.

Upon checking in, around 6pm, we found a “closed, be back at x:xx” sign. There was also a list of numbers to call. My husband called the first one with no luck, but quickly tried the second one. The person answered and told us the key was in the room, and the room was unlocked. The motel is a bit dated, but fine. Towels were dingy and a few had spots. Not a big deal. We can manage. We noticed after our dog fell into a hole, that the perimeter of the deck had holes in the earth, and in the spot right in front of our room, the patio block was fighting for its life in one corner, with at least a foot of dirt missing from underneath it. We had to remind the kids several times to watch their step or go around it, which was kind of hard as it was like this in several spots. That night when we laid down to go to bed, the fireplace kicked on by itself. There’s a device on the wall that looks like it controls the heat/fireplace, but the knob is broken off. The fireplace ran all night, so eventually we had to turn the air on to combat how warm it was. Friday it rained all afternoon and was cool and cloudy. The resort advertises a game room. My husband went to check it out, but again the office was closed. Saturday there was a beeping around the motel somewhere and we assumed it was a smoke detector. My husband went to the office to let someone know, but again, it was closed. That was when we noticed our room didn’t have a smoke detector.

Motel rooms have fireplace and a deck that has a view of the lake!! Only bad thing was no ice machine but it’s northern MN so no biggie. Kayaks, pedal boat and canoes were super fun and easy to enjoy! Staff is awesome and very accommodating! We really enjoyed our stay.

It was so fun to be on the water. We had access to kayaks, a canoe, rowboats, and a paddleboat!

We found this little gem when we came to Hill City to ride sxs with another group. Easy to find, about a mile out of town. Parking a truck and trailer was not convenient at all. Office was in disarray and I was worried about the condition of the room after being in the office area but the room was pleasant. Overlooks the lake so that was nice, fireplace in the room but we never could get it to come on. Pretty dated room and bathroom but was fine for two nights after riding all day. Negatives that we couldn’t over look: no hairdryer in the room, beds were not comfortable. We would stay here again as there aren’t many options in this town but I would come better prepared.

Everything was great! Nice little resort. Can hear most of the traffic passing by in room, but didn’t bother us. Wish the office was open when we were there for the arcade. Only stayed one night Would stay again!!

They have a little beach area that was pretty cool.

Stayed while traveling two nights. We stayed in the hotel room and the beds were amazing. Very clean and friendly staff.

For an overnight stay while traveling, it was great. Check in after 6 pm was a phone call. A nice clean room with all the amenities, including a fireplace..went out on deck and looked at lake from a short distance. Hill City is a nice, little small town...

Cost effective as well as clean spacious. Will definitely stay there again.

Rooms are in very poor condition. Furniture is old/broken/not comfortable at all! Linens were stained and ripped. Had hole in the wall right by my bed, water was only luke warm and smelled.

Quite nice overall, but curly hair in the tub and dripping tap, could have been easily fixed.

I think the property was sufficient for what we needed for one night. Walls were really thin, could hear the whole conversation at 4:00 AM in the next room. Patio door was really had to open. All was clean though. Check in was a quick phone call.

Absolutely WONDERFUL!!!!! I cannot say this too much. The room was so comfortable with a rotely controlled air conditioner and an ele tric fireplace. A sliding glass door opens to a deck where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful lake. The 2 queen beds are very comfortable; the bathroom clean and supplied with ample towels as well as soap, shampoo, etc. The staff could not have been friendlier orore helpful. Our 1 night stay did not allow time to use trails or fish but I am planning to return here mext year for a week-long vacation!

Like the rustic look. Bed and pillows very comfortable. Best sleep we have had in nights. Nice lake view. Beautiful sunrise.

There was no one there to check in with. No staff. Apparently they only work until a certain time of day and if you don't check in by then you dont get a room.

The Blue Moon was a good stopover for us on a long trip. Owner was very friendly as were others we met there. It's a good place for families!

Easy to check in I had problem to make the TV work, 5 min and it was fixed

I enjoyed my stay except the fact I ever saw or had any contact with the owner or person working. I thought it was quite impersonal.

Like the view of the river and the wildlife...did not like the breakfast selection... can get that at a much cheaper hotel.Have to say I was disappointed in the overall stay.
