Bracken Hide Hotel

The cabins were pristine, as was the property. Views were wonderful. The breakfasts were amazing. Give the Full Scottish breakfast a try. My only wish: a shuttle service up to the cabins, after a whisky flight in the Bracken Hide Pup, the top tier walk is a wee bit much, a real gaser!

Amazing place, nice cozy cabins, saunas and very special! The service was very confused to say the least, needed to ask for towels for the saunas 3 times, got the wine over me, food in the knee etc. Probably off season issues as we stayed mid- November. The service in the whisky bar was fantastic, the 2 younger women made every evening special with a wealth of experience and passion. Keep them at all costs.

We stayed in one of the pods high up on the hill at Bracken Hide Hotel. The view out over Portree and the harbour was fantastic. We were glad that the pod was air conditioned as the weather was quite hot. The pods are very new and modern. The walk up to the pod on a gravel path was fairly strenuous but you can get a ride in a golf buggy which is essential with luggage. But be warned the buggy doesn’t seem to be available all the time. Also it would great if the dining room where we had our breakfast was air conditioned as it was very hot in the mornings. We really enjoyed our stay and had a great time.

Unique concept, but a bit clumsily done. Rooms (pods) were quite small, on a hill (nice view of the town) with the restaurant/lounge down a gravel path. Parking lot is also gravel with no lighting. The staff (especially Zara in the bar) were fabulous.

The good- location, yurts were nice, cool experience staying on the side of a hill in Scotland. The bad- Restaurant was closed without notice. The bar was closed without notice. No golf cart available. Fine for me but we had family in their 70s and it's a tough walk up hill in gravel with luggage. Spa wasn't working. Confusion on check in with how many rooms were booked. Overall- cool place, cool experience. Should be ablut half price with all they amenities unavailable.

Unique rooms that are private, clean and comfortable. Staff is extremely helpful. Breakfast was awesome. Only drawback is the gravel paths to the rooms which can leave one vulnerable to the climate when the weather is not nice.

I had an absolutely wonderful time here. The staff at the front desk was so helpful, and so quick to address any question or concern. My meals were excellent as was the service in the dining room and bar. The Sauna/cold plunge experience was exceptional and the coziness of my cabin cannot be paralleled. I cannot speak more highly of this experience, book it!

The little cabins were cute, but incredibly stuffy and with lots of midges flying around (so we were unable to use the patio or open a door. It would’ve been great to have a small window to get air moving. Also, the large window/door looked out onto the main path, so we had very little privacy. So let me start with what they never mentioned in their listings or ads, all of these pods, and I would describe them as luxury pods, are located a couple hundred yards from the main building up a hill that you must travel through gravel to get to. We arrived after dark when a porter is not normally available to transport your bags up to your pod. It is very poorly lit around the hotel entrance and it is not immediately known if you’re parking in the correct area and where to go and what to do because the signage is so bad. We managed to get through it and the pod was very nice but can you imagine if someone has special needs or is elderly? There is no way they could climb this hill and pull their bags in the dark over gravel. Definitely not worth the price tag in my opinion!!

We loved the Isle of Skye and the Bracken Hide was wonderful. We were greeted by staff that brought our bags to our pod. The pod was so cute and cozy and very clean. We enjoyed spending some time in the lounge and the breakfast was delicious!

We were so very happy with our stay… from the cozy comfortable and roomy pods to the restaurant, bar, friendly staff, simply everything was just fantastic. We would definitely come back again and recommend to friends and family!!

Pros: great real estate. The pods are cute and cosy and at the top of the hill have amazing views. The interior design in the main building is impressive and well thought out. The breakfast was great with full table service, and is much improved from earlier reviews I read. Cons: 1. We booked several weeks in advance into the restaurant for a Friday night dinner - bookings are essential in Skye. We checked in that afternoon and found out the restaurant was closed and nobody had contacted us. Impossible to get in anywhere for dinner at short notice so we had to eat from a burger van in the Co-op car park nearby (actually quite good!). We weren’t offered any compensation for the inconvenience until we asked for it. 2. I don’t believe they clean the rooms very thoroughly between guests. We found two items in separate places in the pod from previous guests that were quite obvious (one in an open shelf by the bed, one in the bottom of the wardrobe) 3. The walk to the pods at the top of the hill is a steep climb. They take your suitcases up for you in a golf buggy but you have to walk yourself. If you have a disability that impacts your ability to walk / climb steep hills, I would suggest notifying the hotel in advance so you can be in a pod further down the hill

Overall the cabin is very nice with great views. The food is amazing. There are a few little things that were missed, that would've made the place exquisite. After check-in, we found an empty bottle of body wash and almost empty shampoo bottle. We got a half-empty bottle from the front desk that was never replaced during the 3 nights stay. The walk to the top cabin was long and steep. There are not enough instructions in the room or available at the desk for opertaing the heat/AC and the in-room safe.

Room was not clean. Room was not made up after first night. Shower drain was clogged and it was not repaired even after reporting it after the first night.

My check in was late, around 930 pm. The young man who did my check in was very polite and through. Wasn’t able to eat dinner at their restaurant since it closes at 9. My room was dusty and could have used a better cleaning, sheets and bedding looked like they were not changed. As far as the property is concerned it is magnificent, incredible views.

This is the 1st time I've had to give less then 5 stars in review. 1st off the lady that checked us in and was also the Bartender was GREAT!! Everything else wasn't. The Breakfast was a great but the service was horrible. Rude, un pleasant. The table for yogurt was a not taken care, no yogurt, rolls laying on the floor plates empty with no selection. Our room had a terrific view and shower but again not totally clean, and not restocked properly, like no new cream for morning coffee. 1 Bed side light didn't work and no Kleenex, they brought new Kleenex and repaired the lite which became a strobe lite so why bother. My opinion is they need someone to oversee and check that the staff is doing things correctly and with professionalism and pride. It's a service industry and they are falling short which makes it or breaks it.

The cabins were unique and nice inside, heated washroom floor was nice, AC was great and beds decent - the layout was something to be desired as the paths up to the cabins walk in front of your front and only window so everyone can see in, a bit annoying, and nobody made the beds for second night or cleaned the cabin (for the price we paid this seems odd). But the big letdown was the restaurant, it was laid out nice and the bar was great / good selection and service, but the food was not good at all - for a place aiming for a high bar and acting like a 4 star resort it was truly awful - both mine and my wife’s meal was terrible, she could t even finish it. Next morning we said we’d just grab a coffee, but as breakfast was included we thought we’d give another go - mistake! Old fruit and pastries given, I had eggs Benedict that looked like the hollandaise came from a package and my wife got sick from the eggs - our fault for giving it a second chance I guess, but it just proved it wasn’t a mistake.

Beautiful nice little cabins, newly furnished. An amazing experience to stay in for a night though it is pretty small inside. The heating doesn’t seem to work properly but the bedding and everything else was cozy. Just wish the parking area could be closer!

The Pod idea for rooms is an interesting concept, but the execution here is flawed. 1. The location of the property - on the edge of town- pretty much assumes guests will arrive by car - and to preserve the isolated feeling for the Pods the parking lot is located far from the rooms - which is a good move - however the parking lot is nothing but a pile of loose gravel - so there’s really no way to roll your luggage from your parked car to reception. 2. The same loose gravel was also used for all the pathways to all the rooms - and the distance from the parking lot or reception- depending on your Pod location can be 100s of yards away. I know gravel is an inexpensive permeable material- but there are other options- more expensive- that would be suitcase friendly. 3. The Pods are nice - however there’s only one window in the front of the Pod and the Pod is basically just a bed room and bathroom- so to enjoy the view you basically need to keep your bedroom curtains wide open - not very private. A skylight would have been a good addition. 4. Other items - the mirrors in the rooms were just hung with picture hooks - which is unusual. The shower did not have a caddy for the shampoo and conditioner so those were on the floor, and the toilet paper holder was a wobbly metal thing that kept falling over. 5. Breakfast was okay not great - the restaurant was closed during our stay- but the menu looked adventurous. 6. The main building bar was nice - prices were a bit high.

My husband and I had a rather interesting stay on the Isle of Skye during our Scotland vacation, but our stay at The Bracken Hide was one of the highlights of our time there. The property is gorgeous and in a perfect location...walkable to the city centre but just far enough away that you can really appreciate the Skye feeling...beautiful views! The bungalows were very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the heated floors! They are a bit small, and there's not a whole lot of room for large amounts of luggage. However, all of the other amenities are there...TV, coffee, tea, etc. The gravel pathways to each area of the resort are a bit difficult to walk, particularly if you have rolling luggage or physical limitations. However, the staff have golf carts and can carry you/your luggage to and from your room as needed. All of the staff were so kind, caring, and helpful. For instance, on the evening we checked in, we were late arriving to the hotel due to car trouble, and we were starving. The kitchen and restaurant staff graciously agreed to stay after the restaurant had closed to accommodate us! And the food was amazing!!! Also during our stay, my husband became ill and was unable to travel. The hotel willingly accommodated us for an additional night, and the staff were so attentive and helpful. This hotel is a bit pricey compared to other accommodations in the area, but the quality of the facilities and service make it worthwhile!

Very unique little pods overlooking beautiful rolling hills and the harbour. Full streaming services and excellent onsite restaurant. Clean and cozy. Also, lovely staff, especially Shannon, our server. Lots of tea, coffee, and treats that were complimentary. My only complaint was that the water for the shower could have been hotter. The water both days was not hot enough. Other than that the place was perfect.

I wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. The little units were well equipped with a bed and bathroom, air conditioning, TV etc. The units are small but it was such an interesting experience so would highly recommend. The restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was well done and dinners were top notch. My only complaint was the main hall was warm but other than that it was well done.

Beautiful resort and room with great service however we had a very long walk (1/4 mile) to our hide up the hill and long walk back to our car every time we wanted to come and go. We are fit people who came to see Skye and hike. We weren’t thrilled to hike to our room after a long day of hiking. There was a golf cart that the staff would take you up if needed but we couldn’t and didn’t want to ask for every trip. The bed was extremely lumpy with springs poking us in the back- so much we actually rotated the mattress to try to make it better. There were no washcloths and the bed side lights would not turn off all the way. We couldn’t turn off the heater in the bathroom so had to turn on the ac to com at the heat. We had no internet in our room so could not work when we needed to. The Bracken itself was beautiful and the restaurant was very good and the service fantastic. We expected more from a 4 star hotel and would have liked to have known that we would be no where near our vehicle and that we were expected to trek up the hill to our room- the trade off I guess is that we had a pretty good view. Mixed review from us for sure! We loved parts and hated parts. Would we stay again? Not sure

Skye is a special place and Braken Hide is great. The restaurant is amazing. Incredible breakfast and dinner. Most amazing is the service of the head waiter who is unfailing friendly and efficient. The tiny rooms are actually quite comfy. The shower was outstanding -- great water pressure. Its hard to sit up in bed because of the sloping ceiling, but otherwise very comfy and efficient. Amazing view from the front porch.

Friendly staff, excellent service. Food was delicious. Robust breakfast menu and exactly what was need before a morning hike. Very close to all main points of interest on Skyr. Hope to be back some day.

Firstly applause to all the staff that work so hard in this hotel but seriously understaffed. Our check in time was 3:00pm but arrived room not ready had to wait two hours. The reception man just seemed embarrassed and couldn't really give us a time so we went into town and came back later. Restaurant closed for dinner during our stay. Breakfast so understaffed you feel guilty asking for anything as the one server was running around. Couldn't have latte as would take to long to make. Breakfast menu is ok if you like the options personally I like to have boiled eggs which in every other hotel we have stayed over the last few weeks was no problem but this extremely expensive hotel said the chef was too busy. Rooms were not cleaned for our two night stay no refills of tea supplies. No staff around after 9:00pm. Hotel wasn't at full capacity our first night so I feel so sorry for staff if it was they just wouldn't be able to cope. Management invest in some more staff before you add more of the huts. Very disappointing as the staff were lovely and the hotel very nicely decorated.

The location is beautiful and close enough to walk into town. The pods themselves are perfect, cozy and nicely done. Wonderful views as well from your bed. Check in did take quite a while. The rain was heavy and it took over an hour to wait in the lobby for someone to bring the luggage to the room so we could get settled. Breakfast was good, although the staff again did take quite a while to bring coffee etc. just be flexible with your time expectations. You're really staying there for the experience.

Highly recommend this location for your stay in Portree! The amenities, food, and staff were all excellent and made our stay that much more enjoyable, especially Shannon working in the restaurant. Can’t say enough good things about our stay

although the view from the hotel was amazing, I found the staff to be gruff and generally unhelpful which is the reason for my poor review. The staff appeared significantly more concerned with their own schedules and comfort versus assisting the guests.

We tried to contact the front desk by calling with iur cell phone around 9:00pm and no one answered. We had ti use the bath robe in our room to dry off after showering. The best part of the hotel is the privacy, but if it is raining it can be very challenging getting to and from the lobby and restaurant. The morning of check-out was a little challenging for us with rain. But we knew that going in.

After reading many reviews and trying to do my due dilligence, we decided to book for our Engagement weekend on the Isle of Skye and were so happy we did!! The hotel staff was super friendly, fun, and personable. They have a golf cart to bring your bags to your room, and the rooms are cozy and quaint with a modern touch! It would have been nice for more counter space in the bathroom- hopefully they can add an extra shelf there. The free breakfast was fantastic, and they were accomodating to diertary requests. The dinner and bar area are beautiful, and after going to The View (Michelin recommended) this restaurant was much better in my opinion. The sauna and ice bath were lovely, it would have been nicer if the sauna was hotter, but the aesthetic was perfect. Also the hotel staff were so kind to us during our engagement weekend, and left us a special surprise in our room when we arrived after the proposal! Will defintely book again!

Staff was wonderful- especially at the restaurant! Space was unique and such an experience. Enjoyed the amenities and small touches- Scottish chocolates with the Nespresso machine, say no more. Recommend and would return!

Really unique accommodations. Very quiet and private "hides" or huts tucked on a hill overlooking beautiful Skye landscapes. A central building with an awesome dining room, bar and game/relaxing area is steps away. Check-in was fast and easy with friendly and professional staff. Only meals we ate here was breakfast and it was great. Service was great. Coffee was great. Poached eggs on avocado toast was great. Fruit and croissants were also great. Just a 10-12 minute stroll to Portree Harbor. Highly recommend.

The cosy cabin was clean and quiet located on hill. The main lodge was modern and comfortable. It was about a mile from the small town of Portree. While I did enjoy my stay, I felt it was very overpriced.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Staff was great. Location ideal. Restaurant and bar were perfect. Would stay here again without a doubt.

The receptionist was very kind and accommodating, she gave us recommendations on places to eat nearby and ensured that we had breakfast even when checking out earlier than expected. The cabins had a beautiful view that was unforgettable. One of our least favorite things about it was having to hike up a hill to reach our cabin. Thankfully, our luggage was brought up by an employee in a golf cart, but do keep this in mind if you choose to stay here. All in all, the experience was positive and I would stay here again.

We visited from Ohio, USA. We loved this location. The individual rooms were small but tidy. The bed was really comfortable and warm. Meals at the lodge were wonderful and the view was amazing! Highly recommend!

We had one of the newer cabins. It’s a little of a hike to all the cabins. The main reception has a chic bar and nice restaurant. Gorgeous view. The biggest issue, which was significant, was that our room was not ready on arrival after 4:30 pm, and the same on the first day of our stay after a long day out. Also, quite important, it would be more than a 20-25’ walk to town…which is not what I expected.

We really enjoyed our stay and experience at Bracken Hide! The setting is so unique and felt really personal. The staff was so kind, we were greeted and our bags were taken directly to our rooms while we finished checking in. We were able to book our dinner for the evening and set a breakfast time for the morning knowing we were getting an early start. The cabins are small, but so cozy. Hands down the best shower we have had all trip - amazing water pressure and hot water. In room tea and robes, with Porter out front was amazing. A bit of a walk up to the cabins, but so worth it! Dinner was amazing, and the breakfasts in the AM were so good! We did take advantage of the plunge and sauna, which was such a fun experience. We were informed ahead of time that the restaurant would be closed for dinner on our second night, but a list of local restaurants were provided. We used this as an excuse to turn in early and selected Pizza in the Skye, for a quiet night. Phenomenal pizza option if the restaurant happens to be closed! We loved our stay here, would absolutely stay again!

The views and location is amazing. The breakfast and dinner was one of the best we had in Scotland on our 15 day trip!!

The property is super nice, the facilities are amazing as well as the surroundings. Also the food and service at the restaurant was excellent.

We loved our stay at the Bracken Hide! The cottages/huts were modern facilities, yet so charming and comfortable. You do have to be able to walk up a hill to get to your cottage, but there is a porter who takes your bags up and down for you. We loved the restaurant. Our dinner there the first night was spectacular, probably the best salmon we've ever had and the breakfast was truly extraordinary in presentation and taste. The staff was so kind, generous and informative. They gave great suggestions and went out of their way to make sure we felt taken care of. We highly recommend staying at the Brecken Hide!
