Stayed 3 nights

The house was charming, good location & the owner kind enough to meet & guide us to the property. However, the house had a very strong mold/mildew scent. We left within 2 hours of checking in. My husband who is NOT by any means a complainer started having an allergic reaction/breathing issues & said he just couldn't stay the night. I strongly agreed the air quality was a concern. We are both healthy & manage over 30 apartment rentals as an occupation- so we are well aware when there is an issue. Unfortunately, it is a constant battle in the rainforest & understand there will be a certain degree of mold/mildew to contend with in all rentals. You have to be very diligent and of couse AC & dehumidifiers help. We owned a house in Nicaragua many years and learned the jungle takes over if you aren't proactive. We messaged the owner, but he NEVER replied. As a result, we contacted vrbo the next day and were informed that our 3 night stay was non-refundable- about $480 (the owner was unwilling to work with us). We found a nice clean place right down the road for less money. Our advice to the owner is throw out all the carpets, get rid of the cloth couch and seriously douche the place top to bottom. The kitchen also didn't seem that clean- dirty knife handles, clean up the silverware drawer, clean the yellow food blobs out of the microwave, the mat by the sink is sweaty and gross smelling. Vac & mop under the beds.

Dangelo is a fabulous host, he helped us get familiar with the house and helped us find the kinds of places we would like to visit during our stay. My wife and I are avid bird watchers and with the house being in a remote location we saw a wealth of tropical birds, many for the first time. This is not a house for fancy people, it is a rustic house that requires four wheel drive to reach; however the kitchen is adequate for simple meals, the water is hot even though the pressure is moderate and there is no heat or air like most of Costa Rica. My only complaint would be that the bed was a little soft for someone my age but if you're an outdoors kind of person that loves adventure you'll love this place.

Cute cabin with a great view of the volcano when the clouds allow. The owner met us at a supermarket to follow to the house since it’s a little hard to find. The hummingbird feeders on the back porch attracted so many different types for great pictures. Excellent place to stay!
