Beautiful old building with very acceptable public rooms, bars and so on. The major downside the somewhat diffficult stairs for old clients like me. One understands the structural impossibilities of a listed building but there must be some sort of solution. Buffet breakfast fruit etc all good.

Nice place, recently decorated. Nice pub attached, serving a very good, plentiful breakfast & good food for the evening. Service was good. Noise travels a bit from downstairs but they are looking into rectifying this problem & it didn’t affect our stay.

Newly refurbished, lovely room - overlooked station so occasional rumble from trains. Great food in attached restaurant and bar (open to public, obviously popular). Helpful reception staff but: tiny, uninviting reception area, closes at 8pm. Car park: free nut not enough spaces, adjacent station car park charges £5:60, not refunded by hotel (arbitrary extra gor some - unacceptable, caused minor friction at reception so not fair on staff either).

Recently refurbished & very comfortable rooms, although a little overheated (even for an Aussie staying in winter!). Food was excellent & the bar staff were lovely. But be warned - there is no lift which isn’t made clear anywhere so getting a heavy suitcase upstairs was a challenge. Apart from that, I was very happy with the place - it’s well located across from the station & an easy walk to the town centre.
Recently refurbished & very comfortable rooms, although a little overheated (even for an Aussie staying in winter!). Food was excellent & the bar staff were lovely. But be warned - there is no lift which isn’t made clear anywhere so getting a heavy suitcase upstairs was a challenge. We were initially given a room which led onto a flat roof where workmen were having a smoke break. There was also some kind of extractor fan vibrating away too. This room was absolutely not suitable for guests. Thankfully, after asking to be moved we were given a proper guest room on the opposite side of the building which was absolutely lovely. Spacious, clean and luxurious. The building is very old and beautiful and full of character. It is in the heart of the town centre providing great access. The bar was lovely and reasonably priced. It may be worth mentioning that the hotel was next to a Wetherspoons with a beer garden. This stayed open till late at the weekend, but the noise didn't really affect us much. The hotel had its own parking which was free and I managed to park there for the duration of my stay but there were not many spaces, so I felt lucky.

My stay at The Stroud Hotel couldn't have been better. Its central location with small car park met my need, and the friendly welcome set things of nicely. The room was spacious and clean, well appointed with a modern feel yet befitting exactly the kind of hotel you'd find in a local station hotel in the Cotswolds. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom large and very clean. The bar was excellent with great food and drink, and at reasonable prices. I particularly enjoyed the jalapeno croquettes and the veggie breakfast. Coffee was also spot on for a morning boost. All in all, absolutely gorgeous hotel with service to match at a price that doesn't break the bank. Next time I'm in Gloucestershire, I'll be staying here rather than at the P****** I** or that other dirty chain...

Room was lovely, clean and newly refurbished. Lovely comfy bed, bath and shower with toiletries provided. Hallways and stair cases look tatty and were in need of a good vacuum. Very limited free hotel parking.

Really nicely refurbished Hotel. Great service from the warm welcome by Christina at reception to the Bar staff, they couldn’t do enough for us. The room was a good size, quiet, clean and fresh with a very large comfortable bed. I come from the area so remember the Hotel as it used to be, and the new owners have done a fantastic job breathing life back into it. Highly recommended. Thanks

With mix feelings Im reviewing this hotel as people were very professional and welcoming. unfortunately the room was just too close to the units and the noise was really loud all night Also they hosted a party and the area was just down our room with no sound proofing Thank fully the music was off just before 23:30 but still not good as I wasted to get a nice night sleep. cleaniness unfortunately brlow the standards

The Stroud Hotel looked nice at first. The bar looked nice enough, but up in our room the bathrooms were disgustingly dirty. Not just some dust in the corners, but splatters of piss all over, including a large dried slick in front of the toilet. There were also multiple other drops of fluids on the floor and walls and hair on the carpet. I would have gone downstairs to complain but there was a metal shutter down at the front desk and I thought that complaining to the bartender wouldn’t be useful. The next day I checked out early and even though I had paid for two nights in advance six months earlier, they charged me for my night. I explained that I had already paid but they said that as Expedia hadn’t paid them, they had to charge me. I said that this seemed to be a problem between them and Expedia, not my issue. Overall, it was a horrible experience. You don’t expect your new room (in a newly refurbished hotel) to look as filthy as a bus station toilet. And instead of having my fee for the night waived, I was charged twice!

Generally not bad had to take potluck with the parking, noise from loud music in the pub/restaurant percolated up through the floor all evening, wouldn’t like to have this room on a Friday when a DJ night is on. Probably use the hotel again because of the convenience

Very comfy beds, very friendly staff, convenient location, great service and food at the pub! We stayed in a spacious family room (2 rooms with king beds), although only one floor above the pub so it was a bit noisy.

Large comfortable warm room with great shower. Good bedding but pillows a little on the thin side. Restaurant service friendly and not rushed. Quality of food very good and at reasonable prices. Great location for all Stroud has to offer and surprisingly quiet considering location in centre of town across from the train station.

First impression, the hotel is amazing, rooms are beautiful. Very soho house vibes. Just don’t stay here if you want a peaceful getaway or a good nights sleep. The sound from the function room, restaurant and nearby Wetherspoons pub all travel through the walls and there is really nothing you can do to save your sanity. The fire doors continually are slammed open and shut with guests coming and going. You feel as if you are being waterboarded with the constant noise at peak times when the hotel is busy. I’ve never had such a bad sleep at a hotel of its supposed calibre. We did complain and we were room moved to right on top of the function room where the sound from the PA downstairs was a clear as day in my new room. The building is old but clearly they’ve not invested in any sound proofing within their sound system in their public areas. They don’t have milk in the rooms for your tea/coffee station and the ask you to go to a pantry located conveniently on your floor. Our pantry was out of order and instead of delivering milk up to our room. They said walk down two flights and collect some milk from the restaurant. My suggestion is to save your money and stay at the local premier inn. It’s a shame, my husband and I come to Stroud often for weekends with our extended family - it would have been a perfect spot for us to return to each trip.

The fire doors continually are slammed open and shut with guests coming and going. You feel as if you are being waterboarded with the constant noise at peak times when the hotel is busy. I’ve never had such a bad sleep at a hotel of its supposed calibre. We did complain and we were room moved to right on top of the function room where the sound from the PA downstairs was a clear as day in my new room. The building is old but clearly they’ve not invested in any sound proofing within their sound system in their public areas. They don’t have milk in the rooms for your tea/coffee station and the ask you to go to a pantry located conveniently on your floor. Our pantry was out of order and instead of delivering milk up to our room. They said walk down two flights and collect some milk from the restaurant. My suggestion is to save your money and stay at the local premier inn. It’s a shame, my husband and I come to Stroud often for weekends with our extended family - it would have been a perfect spot for us to return to each trip.

Fantastic place to stay! Greeted by a couple of really nice chaps at Reception, unexpected upgrade from a Comfort Double to Junior Suite. The room was very nice and spacious! Plenty of plugs and ports to charge at convenient places. Coffee machine and fruit teas were a welcome bonus. There was a fan in the room as there is no aircon. I have 2 suggestions to make the room better. First that as the shower is over the bath, a handle to support in and out given how slippery it is. Second, the windows rattle whilst open, something to stop that so the windows can be open at night without being a distraction would really make this place!

My stay at The Stroud Hotel couldn't have been better. Its central location with small car park met my need, and the friendly welcome set things of nicely. The room was spacious and clean, well appointed with a modern feel yet befitting exactly the kind of hotel you'd find in a local station hotel in the Cotswolds. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom large and very clean. The bar was excellent with great food and drink, and at reasonable prices. I particularly enjoyed the jalapeno croquettes and the veggie breakfast. Coffee was also spot on for a morning boost. All in all, absolutely gorgeous hotel with service to match at a price that doesn't break the bank. Next time I'm in Gloucestershire, I'll be staying here rather than at the P****** I** or that other dirty chain...

Really nicely refurbished Hotel. Great service from the warm welcome by Christina at reception to the Bar staff, they couldn’t do enough for us. The room was a good size, quiet, clean and fresh with a very large comfortable bed. I come from the area so remember the Hotel as it used to be, and the new owners have done a fantastic job breathing life back into it. Highly recommended. Thanks

We chose this hotel both as a stop off break on our way to Cornwall and a place where we could meet up with friends we had not seen for a year. We were pleasantly surprised by both the welcome and the hotel itself. Whilst Stroud itself is a bit of a mix this hotel is, in my opinion, the jewel in the crown. The refurbishment is top notch. The decor is very stylish and tasteful, up to date in every way. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice from continental to cooked. Staff could not do enough for all their customers. We would definitely return next time we are in that neck of the woods.

We'd booked a half-board stay as we had a hotels.com voucher to use. The hotel staff (Nicky) in the week before the stay were really helpful re the planned Sunday evening stay. Long story short, plans went awry on the day itself. Not only did the staff on the phone help, they went above and beyond and were fabulous. Josh in particular was a star, and the lady on reception the following morning was equally lovely understanding. The two gentlemen on the bar & reception were incredibly friendly, helpful and informative. The room itself was spacious, great bathroom and breakfast is not only a wide choice, it's also incredibly tasty, as was the deli board the night before. We're intending to come back in a less time-pressured manner!

Booked this as a last min treat when visiting family. We had several missed calls asking what time we would be checking in. Were advised that the reception team leave at 8pm, but the keys would be left behind the bar, however check-in is advertised as until 10pm. No issues collecting the keys were given a friendly welcome. Once shown to the room which was finished to a lovely modern standard we soon realised our bedside lighting didn’t work, this was due to having no lightbulbs in!!!! We then discovered there was also no bin in the room or bathroom. Another down side was whilst there was a pantry on each floor with a fridge for milk, they were unable to provide a small fridge for the room to store medication. We didn’t feel happy to store such items in a shared fridge with other guests. We slept well but then unfortunately had no hot water in the morning for showers. I discussed this with the team who said they restarted the boiler however we still had non by the time we left. I dislike complaining but did feed this all back to the hotel who apologised and said they would take my email and see what they could do to resolve issues. However have heard nothing. Very disappointed, we decided to support a new and local business and know there can be teething problems, but to not even have hot water was poor. Feel we would have had a better and less stressful stay at the local premier inn. Such a shame as there’s a lot of potential to be good!

We had a wonderful stay here. Henry was incredibly helpful and went out of his way to accommodate us. The room was nicely furnished and had everything we needed including a good shower and a comfortable bed.

Very professional and attentive staff. It was a noisy part of town on a Friday night, but we slept quite well. The breakfast was good, and the room comfortable. Characterful building inside and out. The Sorrento restaurant was very good and only 100 yards from the hotel.

Recently refurbished & very comfortable rooms, although a little overheated (even for an Aussie staying in winter!). Food was excellent & the bar staff were lovely. But be warned - there is no lift which isn’t made clear anywhere so getting a heavy suitcase upstairs was a challenge. Apart from that, I was very happy with the place - it’s well located across from the station & an easy walk to the town centre.

We were initially given a room which led onto a flat roof where workmen were having a smoke break. There was also some kind of extractor fan vibrating away too. This room was absolutely not suitable for guests. Thankfully, after asking to be moved we were given a proper guest room on the opposite side of the building which was absolutely lovely. Spacious, clean and luxurious. The building is very old and beautiful and full of character. It is in the heart of the town centre providing great access. The bar was lovely and reasonably priced. It may be worth mentioning that the hotel was next to a Wetherspoons with a beer garden. This stayed open till late at the weekend, but the noise didn't really affect us much. The hotel had its own parking which was free and I managed to park there for the duration of my stay but there were not many spaces, so I felt lucky.

Excellent stay at the Stroud Hotel, the king size bed was very comfortable and so were the pillows. The bedroom & bathroom was spacious and warm. The hotel has been recently refurbished and has a cosy atmosphere. The restaurant is excellent. We enjoyed a delicious haddock & chips and a fabulous breakfast in the morning. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Lovely, happy and very helpful staff really made my visit. The renovation has made positive changes under the new owners / management. The addition of the external bar/ restaurant area is good. Great location for walking around Stroud as a town hotel and useful location as a base to explore South Gloucestershire. The restaurant menus could be cleaner though.

Very professional and attentive staff. It was a noisy part of town on a Friday night, but we slept quite well. The breakfast was good, and the room comfortable. Characterful building inside and out. The Sorrento restaurant was very good and only 100 yards from the hotel.

A really nice place, excellent location, friendly staff, modern well appointed room. Fantastic breakfast and although we sadly didn't get to use the bar, the selection of drinks looks great.

All staff very friendly. Breakfast very good but £17.95. Room cleaned every day even though not requested. Good range of beers in bar. Smoking areas front and back of hotel.

This is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in anywhere. We have travelled in a lot of countries. Hotels have been generally excellent but at times they lacked atmosphere. The Stroud Hotel has buckets of atmosphere. Its decor is superb being based on a revived pattern of old bricks and reused wood planking alonside modern amenities. We stayed in the biggest bedroom we have ever had! The staff also help to endorse this atmosphere through their friendly but expert approach to guests at the hotel especially by the manager and his wife and those who manage the bar etc. The food is excellent. We only had breakfast because we were visiting family who fed us. However the breakfast had continental elements laid out eg croissants and other pastry treats. Cereals of all types, bread for toast etc., jams and yoghurts tea and coffee. On top of that we could have cooked breakfasts which we had a couple of times. So well cooked. The rooms were kept very clean. It was a very welcoming hotel with friendly helpful and efficient staff. The hotel is well placed in the town being next to the railway station and near the shops
