if you don't speak German, ask them to print an English version of their amenities. The concierge said it was all on the iPad in the room but the only thing in english on mine were menus. Disappointing. Plan to bring only what you need up to the hotel as you need to cross the railroad tracks to get to the parking area.

Everything about this hotel was perfect except that we had a room above the patio for the pub and other guests were extremely loud even well past the midnight closing time so we couldn’t sleep.

Stayed 2 nights in the historic room located in the Lowen Haus that is stunning! Felt like I was in an Architecture Digest video. Service was excellent and so was dinner at the a la carte restaurant; I may even say I had the best meals by far during my 1 week in Switzerland. While the surrounding area is relatively quiet, location of the hotel is just a short walk from Gonten station which takes you to Appenzell town within 15 minutes. P.S., My rental car had a flat tyre on drive over and was towed away, leaving us stranded 25 mins from the hotel. They were kind enough to come pick us up!
