As a travel content creator over the last two years, I have benefited from the hostel system on an international level. My experience has always been that US hostels quite often lack that level of comfortable, class amenities that elevate them into consideration against a hotel room. KEX is not one of those; KEX is without a doubt one of my top three hostels that I have stayed in here in the United States. In the city of Portland, when it comes to locations, KEX, located at 1200 MLK Blvd, is hard to beat. Easy access to streetcar, light rail, and bus lines; mass transit in Portland is truly some of the best connectivity in a top 25 city. Everyone I encountered was super friendly, incredibly helpful, without being overly bearing. Nothing is perfect. I hate to give anything a five; I just don't believe in the concept of perfection. However, KEX Hostel was damn close. 4.93 on my rating scale.

Don't be fooled by the name, this is a HOSTEL. I, unfortunately, did not read that carefully enough, and was surprised by the shared bathroom situation. The bathrooms were not very clean, there were 3 available near my room, all three were dirty. All had overflowing trash cans, one toilet was backed up, and one even had undergarments on the floor. The room itself was fine. No parking garages around, limited paid street parking. The lobby and Photo Booth were the best part. The price was about the same as a regular hotel, skip this place if you can.

Really great value in an urban hotel. Beds and linens were great. Incredible decor and great shared spaces. We had a shared bathroom… it was right outside our door and I never saw anyone but us using it. Barely an inconvenience. I’ll look forward to coming back!
