Built on the side of a mountain in the jungle this property is incredibly unique. You definitely need an SUV to get there ' bad roads make for good people' but it is so worth it. Stunning views, delicious food, unmatched friendly service and all the amenities you could ask for. My only caution is that it is NOT for anyone with mobility issues as all the pathways have significant slopes and there are lots of stairs. The lush tropical jungle situated on a nature reserve made for jaw dropping beauty. Lots of great restaurants and beaches within walking distance and they offer a shuttle service to help you explore the area. 10/10 jungle experience.

We absolutely adored our time at Hotel Boutique Lagarta. Everything about the hotel was stunning, from the restaurant overlooking the ocean, to the 3 infinity pools (one of which is always warmed!) overlooking the jungle and ocean, to our spacious and inviting room. All of the hotel employees were accommodating, kind and warm, going out of their way to make us feel cared for. Some days we ended up canceling planned activities because we just found spending an afternoon at the pool with the unforgettable vista so delightful. The food at the restaurant was delicious, and the spa was incredible and very reasonably priced. There's also a nature reserve on site that you can use, and we booked a kayaking trip through the hotel that left out of that reserve which was marvelous. There is a beach on the property though you do have to cross the river at low tide to reach it. That being said, you still get all the beauty and sounds of having the ocean right below the hotel, and there's a free shuttle that takes you to and from the other more popular beaches (Pelada and Guiones). We did experience the hotel's beach when we went kayaking as well and the waves were lovely and not rough. If we had to find a negative, it would be that the roads in and out of Nosara, and up and down the hill to the hotel, are quite challenging with MANY potholes. You definitely need an SUV to navigate, and we chose to take very reasonably priced tuk tuk rides whenever we left the hotel. Would gladly return!

This property is worth the drive. Stunning property with superior hospitality. Had a wonderful deep tissue massage. Room was large, beautiful, comfortable, with lovely shower. Only thing that made me crazy was the light emitted from the ac unit. I like a very dark room to sleep and lots of light emitted from items in the room. Otherwise, perfect stay! Infinity pool was beyond gorgeous. I stayed there all day as it’s not chlorinated. Simply beautiful people and property!

We really enjoyed the Lagarta Lodge, We explored to forest around the lodge and took the electric boat tour on the river. We saw lots of birds, monkeys and a few crocodiles. The food and service were great. Roads to get to Nosara were what I expected and not great but Bad Roads Bring Good People as the sign at the entrance says.

We had an amazing stay at Lagarta Lodge.It is really a five star boutique hotel. The location is perfect next to a wildlife preserve and the views are gorgeous of the ocean and the preserve. Everyone on staff is so friendly and very attentive. They are what makes it a great hotel. The room and terrace were quite large and had a beautiful view. There are two lovely Infiniti pools and the main restaurant and rooftop sunset bar and restaurant were open air with great servers. We also visited the spa for a deep tissue couples massage and it was one of the best ever. We will definitely visit again!!

Fantastic views of Playa Nosara and Ostional from the heated, slat water pools. The rooms all have great views of the canopy and ocean and are simply, yet beautifully laid out and decorated. Definitely one of my favourite spots to stay in the Nosara area.

Beautiful views from King room. Amazing staff - kind, friendly and helpful. Gorgeous restaurant for sunset drinks, breakfast & dinner. Different pools to relax with jungle & ocean views- loved it and will be back.

Einzigartige Lage direkt am Eingang zu einem Naturschutzreservat. Sehr gute und sehr saubere Unterkunft. Sehr freundliches Personal. Leider kostet jede angebotene Aktivität extra. Vielleicht lag es auch daran das wir in der Nebensaison dort waren. Alles in allem hatten wir einen sehr schönen 12-tägigen Aufenthalt.

We really enjoyed our two night stay. The new restaurant menu is an upgrade to the old one. Keep the improved trend. Wait staff and front desk were very personable. One area to improve is the main pool needs a thorough cleaning. There was debris (not the normal leaves floating) at the bottom of the pool by the edge. A good vacuum will solve that issue. Overall a quality stay. We will be back.

The location was second to none with stunning views overlooking the sea and the national park. The staff were lovely, especially Michael in the restaurant. The pool area's were adequate with infinity pool's but the sunbeds were grubby & uncomfortable. Most days the table's by the sunbeds had not been cleaned. The room was very spacious but very bland. There was sufficient room for 2 chairs in the room but only 1 available. General cleanliness of the room was quite poor. There is a national park attached to the hotel which offers free entry for Hotel quests, what they don't think to mention is that the area is tidal. We went for a walk but the time came in whilst we were out and had to return in thigh High water. Not a great experience! Was also disappointed to have to pay $6 extra for a latte at breakfast when the room is over £400 per night

Very pleased with our stay at lagarta lodge. The hotel and the rooms were beautiful and clean. The breakfast and restaurant were very good and we enjoyed the kayak tour.

Stayed at this property 3 nights with my husband. We had a beautiful room with a balcony overlooking the jungle and ocean. Great place to lie in the hammock or sit and watch the sunset. The room was very nice just as in the pictures and very comfortable beds. Great shower with lots of hot water. The pool/hot tubs were very nice. Loved our delicious breakfast every morning. Had dinner on-site one evening and it was wonderful also - lots of vegetarian choices. We did an excursion booked through the hotel to see baby sea turtles hatching - we met up at 4:15 in the morning. It was early but so worth it! Truly magical! Yes, as other reviews have said the road leading to the hotel was a bit tricky in places - pot holes, steep in places… but if you drive slowly it is not so bad and we rented a small suv which made it easier.

The room was spacious and comfortable. We liked the bathroom and the balcony, too. The views from our balcony and even more from the restaurant are spectacular. The greatest negative is access: there is really no good way to get there without traversing some really terrible roads, and when the road improves you have to turn off onto an access road that is around 1.5 km long and as badly rutted as any of them. Fortunately, the restaurant is rather good, because there is no way we would have ventured on that road after dark.

The hotel and the grounds are beautiful! The ambience and scenery from the pool and restaurant was spectacular. Fantastic views of Playa Nosara and Ostional from the heated, slat water pools. The rooms all have great views of the canopy and ocean and are simply, yet beautifully laid out and decorated. Definitely one of my favourite spots to stay in the Nosara area.

What a wonderful hotel! I can’t imagine a better place for our family to spend a week. We loved the views from the restaurants and pools, and especially from our room (gorgeous vistas over the jungle and monkeys swinging in a tree just off our balcony.) Our room was beautiful and so comfortable and well appointed. Staff is amazing. We enjoyed the beach below the hotel, the jungle walk, the yoga studio and the bird walk. We also drove to area beaches and restaurants- but were always happy to return to our oasis on the hilltop! I would return in a heartbeat.

Built on the side of a mountain in the jungle this property is incredibly unique. You definitely need an SUV to get there ' bad roads make for good people' but it is so worth it. Stunning views, delicious food, unmatched friendly service and all the amenities you could ask for. My only caution is that it is NOT for anyone with mobility issues as all the pathways have significant slopes and there are lots of stairs. The lush tropical jungle situated on a nature reserve made for jaw dropping beauty. Lots of great restaurants and beaches within walking distance and they offer a shuttle service to help you explore the area. 10/10 jungle experience.

The roads getting to the property — and the Nosara area — were incredibly bumpy and rough. Once we arrived it was totally worth it. The staff was very friendly, they helped us with our Spanish, made it easy to schedule rides to town and activities offered. The restsurant was beautiful and the food was fresh and they had light healthy options. There is only 1 restaurant on site, so going into town for some meals was nice (La Luna has the best sunsets ever) The onsite pool were perfect—the views were fabulous. The resort is high end, the town feels local, safe with easy beach access — the beaches are gorgeous. Highly recommend.

The room was spacious and comfortable. We liked the bathroom and the balcony, too. The views from our balcony and even more from the restaurant are spectacular. The greatest negative is access: there is really no good way to get there without traversing some really terrible roads, and when the road improves you have to turn off onto an access road that is around 1.5 km long and as badly rutted as any of them. Fortunately, the restaurant is rather good, because there is no way we would have ventured on that road after dark.

We absolutely adored our time at Hotel Boutique Lagarta. Everything about the hotel was stunning, from the restaurant overlooking the ocean, to the 3 infinity pools (one of which is always warmed!) overlooking the jungle and ocean, to our spacious and inviting room. All of the hotel employees were accommodating, kind and warm, going out of their way to make us feel cared for. Some days we ended up canceling planned activities because we just found spending an afternoon at the pool with the unforgettable vista so delightful. The food at the restaurant was delicious, and the spa was incredible and very reasonably priced. There's also a nature reserve on site that you can use, and we booked a kayaking trip through the hotel that left out of that reserve which was marvelous. There is a beach on the property though you do have to cross the river at low tide to reach it. That being said, you still get all the beauty and sounds of having the ocean right below the hotel, and there's a free shuttle that takes you to and from the other more popular beaches (Pelada and Guiones). We did experience the hotel's beach when we went kayaking as well and the waves were lovely and not rough. If we had to find a negative, it would be that the roads in and out of Nosara, and up and down the hill to the hotel, are quite challenging with MANY potholes. You definitely need an SUV to navigate, and we chose to take very reasonably priced tuk tuk rides whenever we left the hotel. Would gladly return!

The views of ocean and biological preserve are stunning. Sunsets from the pool are spectacular. The staff is truly above and beyond. Will come back for certain. It’s like a retreat above it all. The road getting there is unpacked and bumpy but worth it.

Excellent views - spectacular even. Clean, spacious rooms. Good breakfast. The only problem was the waiter at the restaurant was rude about my lobster bisque (which was disgusting) and I sent it back and he was angry and tried to talk me out of it in a rude way. Then he purposely (not accidentally) charged me twice for it. When we refused to pay for two bisques he looked annoyed and took off one. Very unusual service and attitude for a nice restaurant.

I appreciated that a hotel as lovely as this was still welcoming to families. Breakfast was delicious. We recommend going to local restaurants for lunch and dinner - Il Pepperoni and Al Chile were favorites. We also appreciated the monkey bridge that brought a family of 20+ monkeys to the tree next to our room! A trip highlight. Our final morning we visited Sibu Wildlife Refuge and it was incredible.

This is our second stay and although we love the beauty of the location the hospitality wasn’t quite as accommodating as our first trip. We were there for a 60th bday and engagement and wasn’t a lot of notice to that. It was a bit more crowded than our first trip and think we’ll come back in July again for smaller crowds. Food is always good and can’t beat the sunset views from the infinity pool.

This resort has it all from delicious breakfast to excellent front desk concierge's service. Set on a high ridge or mountain in a nature reserve with spectacular views of the ocean. Easy access to the beaches thru a residential neighborhood. Plenty of nature to see with Howler monkeys at a safe distance in the trees throughout the resort and neighborhood. Access to the Nature Reserve trail is available from the resort but bring sturdy mud type shoes during the rainy season. We stayed in Room 31 which was very spacious for three guests (2 bedrooms) and has an excellent view of the jungle and ocean.
This resort has it all from delicious breakfast to excellent front desk concierge's service. Set on a high ridge or mountain in a nature reserve with spectacular views of the ocean. Easy access to the beaches thru a residential neighborhood. Plenty of nature to see with Howler monkeys at a safe distance in the trees throughout the resort and neighborhood. Access to the Nature Reserve trail is available from the resort but bring sturdy mud type shoes during the rainy season.
