Immaculately clean, very friendly and helpful staff, comfy bed, private parking. Ok the bathroom facilities were a little tired but the shower was powerful and hot - so no complaints here. Good value for money. Great for a short stay in Battle.

Pleasant property, facilities ok. Access to room a bit difficult. Bit of noise disruption from other guests.parking difficult.

Arrived at night, then had to find local parking as car park was full. Would be good if these were reserved for hotel customers. Same second night. Car park just 5 minutes walk away luckily. Third floor room, very warm, had a fan and large window that opened so used them. Good large bathroom and good shower. Bedroom large, plenty of storage space, so beats travel Lodge etc. Was dusty behind bed and skirtings etc. Kettle lead not long enough for kettle to reach work surface, strange, so had to put kettle on a box. Comfy bed. Nice staff. Pizza restaurant downstairs which we used, good food. Lots of pubs nearby. Battle Abbey five minutes walk. Good location as a base. Free WiFi was good.

I have used this hotel on many occasions over the years and it has steadily gone down hill over that period. Major refurbishment is needed as the whole place is now tired and in need of TLC. The staff were friendly enough, but with no bar or restaurant for meals or breakfast there is a need for some investment. The site is positioned well and has only limited competition.....

We enjoyed our night at the hotel, parking was very limited in the area behind the hotel so would have appreciated knowing that beforehand. But otherwise it was a lovely quirky hotel to stay in.

The room was fantastic as were the staff, the only faults I could comment on is that there was no lift and no breakfast was available

We booked the George for the Battle of Hastings weekend. It was quite last minute so we were pleased to find a room for a reasonable price. There might have been a reason why... The good: the location is great, a minute from the battle site and abbey and in a great spot on the high street close to everything. The bad: it's extremely budget. We were on the top floor up a very steep staircase – I don't recall seeing anything about accessibility when booking. Stair carpet isn't really a dealbreaker for me usually but it was absolutely filthy! Room itself was large but full of budget creaky IKEA furniture and it smelt terrible. Cheap towels, pillows and duvet. We didn't have water but after it was looked it, there was enough of a trickle to brush your teeth – just! No service to speak of – just a mobile number to call on arrival (which by the way, is round the back of the car park not through the restaurant!) As others have said, no fire escape info, no secure locks or peep hole and paper-thin walls. No food either – we went to the cafe at the end of the high street and can highly recommend that! We only stayed for a night and were in the room for probably about 12 hours max. The price we paid was a bargain and we were grateful to be able to drop our bags early, so I can't judge too harshly, but I wouldn't stay here again and would be unlikely to recommend it. If accessibility is a concern, this hotel would not be suitable.

a little bit dusty

It was value for money but there were a few areas that needed attention. The tap on the sink was loose, the floor tiles in the bathroom needed fixing as a few were loose. The shower was leaking and the pole was a bit loose. The window didnt have a stopper on it and fumes from the restarant were getting in. The stair case was very grand but needed some tlc.

Shower was not working properly, there was only freezing water and very hot water no more.

The bedroom was in very poor condition,outdated dust everywhere the bed was uncomfortable to sleep in and only given 3 pillows for two people.the bedroom was extremely hot every night the bathroom had cracked floor tiles which fiancée was worried about walking and cutting her foot.the water coming out of the shower was poor and terrible the hotel was in fantastic location but the whole hotel needs work paint , new carpet bit of care given to hotel make it look better

The property was well sited for visiting the Abbey but car park very tight, the window to our room leaked through rotten wood and did not shut (someone had tried a fix with sealant), someone had used the toilet brush because it was clearly visible on the brush, bed not great and pillows were slightly thicker than sheets, bath towels were nice and soft but no hand towel included.

Very good price for the centre of historic battle. New bathroom, nice and clean and quiet. Very friendly reception staff.

We didnt end up staying, there was no hot water. Also the bath was filthy. Communication about the no hot water was not good. We asked for a refund and the receptionist was very apologetic and gave refund straight away

The mattrace was a mess . Please change all your mattress. They are very old and broken.

Negative points: I stayed in the same room- one of the ones on the top floor. Water pressure in the shower/bath is still poor. Dusty corners noted down the side of the bed. The mattress needs replacing; coming to the end of its comfort life. The towel rail was missing and not replaced. The wardrobe is very thin and wobbly! Plus points: Thankfully, they had provided a large fan for the heatwave- VERY necessary! It was quiet, so got to sleep ok. For a no-frills base to sleep in (I was visiting family locally and out every day), it did the job, but it was not at all glamorous!

Had room on front and was noisy as 5.30am with road traffic. And light through curtains. Could do with blackout curtains!!!

Fine for budget hotel. Easy to find and good parking. Friendly staff. Room was very cold and thermostat didn’t seem to work, and tv didn’t connect to main channels due to signal issues.

A great location right in the town centre with parking. The room was comfy but the ceiling was low (I am tall) . The shower was either too hot or too cold so I had a bath instead. WiFi and TV worked so I am happy I had a great view as well.

It is what it is - a cheap hotel. But, really comfortable bed, great pillows, spacious bedroom and CLEAN. Staff are a bit shy but friendly... and they don’t bite!

The room was perfect for our needs and in a great location. The room was basic but had everything we needed. Will certainly use the hotel again when I'm next in the area.

Unbeatable price for the location, perfectly functional but if you are unreasonably picky, or have never toured India then go spend more than double. It's all about your outlook, we had fun, no disturbance from fellow occupants or from the street, room 7 is quite close to the restaurant extractor outlet but the room fan cancels the noise! We take earplugs wherever we go in UK, at this level in the market, where's the issue?

Clean and comfortable, easy reach of nearby attractions and very pleasant reception staff. They seem to be doing the place up ? We had a lovely very new looking bathroom. Not the first stay here and we're booked again next week.

I had a request to be able to check in s bit earlier than the 3pm because I had a wedding to attend. The staff were very helpful and prioritised cleaning my room so then this could be achieved. The staff was very polite and helpful. I like the lovely surrounding. I souks happily stay again.

Awful experience! We arrived to check in, having ducked out of our friends’ wedding to do so, only to be told that we didn’t have a room booked. We showed the guy on reception our reservation with hotels.com and he said they’d changed management and weren’t using hotels.com anymore. After saying he didn’t have a room, he then said he could give us one with a broken drawer (?!) but we’d have to pay for it and claim what we’d already paid back from hotels.com After further discussion he finally agreed to let us have the room. We returned to the wedding (an hour later!) and when we got back to the hotel afterwards we had to call a mobile number to get the receptionist back to let us in. It was the strangest experience! The hotel itself was very dated and, despite the grand staircase, looked run down and tatty. Our room was fine but the broken drawer paled into insignificance when faced with a dodgy shower and sink taps which gurgled and spat when turned on, and windows that let in every sound from the street below. In fairness, the bed wasn’t uncomfortable but the whole place felt like a hostel. Obviously no breakfast or refreshments as no on-site reataurant, but at least the parking was free. Not somewhere we will rush back to but acceptable at a push.

A very central location and spacious clean room. Staff attentive. Only issue was bathroom mirror light was not working, but did not affect our stay.

No hot water in first room. Mould and mildew in tile grout. Only air con were noisy fans that had to stay on all night as windows painted shut. No one ever on reception, you always have to call a mobile number to receive any service. No restaurant on site, facilities very basic for the high price.

The shower didn't work in our room. Wanted to let staff know, but when we left in the morning,there was no one at reception.

Excellent location. Clean, and tidy. Basic facilities. A bit dated. Excellent location. Placed 'please service room' sign on room door as more tea/coffee was needed, but the room wasn't serviced and refreshments not replenished.

Excellent hotel in the high street

The hotel is well placed in battle high street. Very easy to find with its own parking. The reception was very friendly and we were quickly shown to our room. The room was well sized, the bed a bit on the small side but it was ok. The bathroom was large and a bit shabby. There was a patch above the shower that had no paint on it and had obviously been repaired but not finished. The light fitting was hanging by it's wire above the shower which I found very concerning.

Everything you need for a few nights stay. Walking distance to local shops, bars and the Abbey. Situated in tbe heart of 1066 country on the high street in Battle East Sussex. Only negitive, asked at the recepition about breakfast in the resurant, guy showed us a menu, asked him if he would recomended it he said NO they have only been doing breakfast a coupe of months and pointed us down the road onto the high street to bakery/cafe.

Ground floor is currently a building site/redevelopment of original pub. However, hotel area is behind and rooms above are in keeping with the age of the building. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Room was spacious, a little basic but very clean. Kettle, tea, coffee & biscuits provided in room. New carpet in room and newly tiled bathroom. However, bath itself needs refurbishment and older style furnishings in room. Bed firm but comfortable. Noise from old pipes kept us awake throughout night. Not hotels fault, but despite secondary window glazing a lot of noise still heard from lorries/outside traffic throughout the night. Which, if like us you’re not used to traffic noise, did disturb our sleep. However, for the price of the room this was a reasonable stay.

Loved the Georgian property. Lovely old staircase. Glad there was a fridge in the room as no breakfast.
